We will have to wait for the Intel release of the mobile chips before there is any chance of machines of course.

looks like gaming notebook market is getting really interesting. EVGA is entering the market as well.

EVGA as a clevo reseller, not sure about that.

Ugh...Come on companies, just 'Shut up and take my money!!!!' been playing the waiting game for months, and am just about ready to pull the trigger on the 650sg. the sager NP8852 to be exact and now...I"m debating again. UGH....this waiting game!

Talk to intel about release dates
but as stated above sager/clevo are better off doing an organised launch rather than rushing.
-
Evga not going to be a Clevo reseller but it brings competition to the market. Which is good for consumers.

That book looks kinda thin for a desktop cpu carrier, makes me wonder about the cooling compared to the clevo. Either way more competition and options is always a good thing as said earlier. Right now I'm highly favoring the DM but I got to admit seeing things like this come randomly out the woodwork is extremely entertaining. I don't know what experience evga has in laptops but on the other hand they are well known for desktop boards and ect at the same time so the branding is there.
According to this article mobile skylake is interesting as well with intel announcing both xeon and k series for mobile cpu's similar to that of the z170 cpu's in desktops. Its a great time to be buying now especially those upgrading. I'm just waiting to see all the options before I make my move and the DM is still above the list but then again nothing is set in stone for me either. I don't want a rush but at the same time timely launches are important. The company that releases skylake notebooks first will have an edge.

A 15 inch thinner machine with only a desktop CPU (no GPU) which docks could hit a niche quite well. You can offer it by itself for those who are just interested in the CPU power and then dock it into a nice GPU dock for those who want gaming at home.

I've been wondering lately if that is viable. To have a thin powerful 15 incher with no GPU, and then to connect a desktop GPU when at home. I don't think that's possible yet, though...
-
well thats what i'm waiting for with the thunderbolt 3 connection.

This does make a lot of sense and I could see a market for this especially since the igpu is getting better but you all forgot to mention the important thing and it is: That the cpu would have to be a strong quad core cpu. Docking laptops have been done before but they lacked a strong cpu in most cases. -
That will probably kill off some desktop sales. Good idea however.

Is there a reason why you think it would not be possible?
Several laptop manufacturers are investing significantly in bringing to market some form of eGPU solution for Skylake laptops.
TB3 40Gbps connection will likely be fast enough for at least this generation desktop GPUs, since TB2 20Gbps was able to handle 780Ti on MacBookPro up to about 85-90%. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Oh if you can do a quad core in a 13 inch then a desktop cpu in a 15 inch is doable. It may need to be dual fan with wrap around heatsinks in both corners and a tiny bit thicker for reasonable fans and fin area but it can be done.
Also there would be no point in a desktop dual core when a mobile quad would be better so I was talking if not the top k model then a reasonable quad still. Fast ram with the latest igp will do plenty of things to keep you entertained away from the desk even if it's 720p for the most part.ghegde and i_pk_pjers_i like this. -

Desktop sales shouldn't be affected anymore than usual. Desktops are still cheaper to build spec for spec than laptops and have potential for the most performance. -
I agree, I don't know that desktop sales will suffer all that much. There's a cost associated with the housing for the eGPU unit as well (along with a power supply), even if you could swap out the card for a newer one. Following some of the links in the thread here, it seems to run about $200 or more. A desktop user could easily roll that $200 into a better graphics card in addition to the desktop being cheaper to begin with.
It adds an extra (positive) layer to the various tradeoffs between portability and speed. I do agree with Meaker in that you could do quite a bit on an igpu while away from the docking station. -
Watching this too; am looking for something a little more portable and powerful than my NP8170

Looks like it lol, but of course, if there are other exciting updates I won't mind too!
And just in time for our quarterly IT show (COMEX 2015) where many shops will set up booths and sell IT stuff at good prices!
As a side note, you cannot see or select the 13-inch laptop anymore (XG13-V3, Aftershock's equivalent of the Clevo W230SD) and the website also shows a new shop section with a section labelled "Laptop Components". This may mean something too...?

It will be nice if we can get some official news on models here in a few days.
Components could be kind of a wide range of products. From batteries and chargers, to ram, hard drives, screens, etc... Looks like more waiting to find out if it is anything interesting.darkarn likes this. -
Yep, I will be checking on that day at least and update here accordingly! Let's hope this is really for the laptops (since Aftershock does sell gaming dekstops too; there's always the chance that the revolution is more about the desktops rather than laptops...)
And wow, I can't believe I am once again getting excited over such waiting for new hardware updates (after all these years...)!

I sincerely hope not. I want a new laptop after I complete my 'A' Levels... And I really hope they're doing something really cool in the 13-14" form factor.
I've spoken in person to the founders of Aftershock - they say that all resellers work fairly closely with Clevo as far as the development of new models are concerned. I cannot confirm nor deny this statement entirely.
Maybe the XoticPC, XMG/Schenker, Eurocom and other vendor representatives here could corroborate this. -
Gah, that always bugs me!
Laptops are PCs!
PC = personal computer.
I don't like it when people refer to PCs as being exclusively desktops. It belittles our laptops, insinuating that they aren't real computers. They deserve better than that. They are just as much of a PC as any desktop is.Mr Najsman and ajc9988 like this. -
It's not strictly true; it depends on the size of the company (in general, I'm not refering to Aftershock) and whether that company purchases direct from Clevo or not.MichaelKnight4Christ and ajc9988 like this.

Unfortunately we can't speak for other companies and how close they are to Clevo. For us we work with Sager and they do take our feedback and provide it to Clevo. As for our direct work with Clevo, not so much.clevo-extreme and ajc9988 like this. -

It all depends where you are in the chain and how much impact depends on volume of sales, sager as a whole is going to hold a lot of clout after all.

Aftershock apparently purchases directly from Clevo - better to do it that way since Clevo in Taiwan is closer to Singapore than Sager in the U.S. They are a Clevo exclusive direct partner - since they have a crystal 'trophy' sort of thing from Clevo in a display case outside their customer service centre that says so... -
If this really happen, I may just go ahead and get the laptop (despite me graduating from uni next year, which limits the usefulness of a laptop?)
My bad, was having a tiring day at school when I created the post... -
calling a skylake a "revolution" is nuts imo.
revolution that's feasible in the laptop is a thin laptop with egpu, which doesnt look like its happening this year. (no leaks, no rumours, no prototypes)
Next year, its going to be kabylake and 3dxpoint ssds from Intel thats supposed to be 1000x faster than current pcie ssds and possible replace dram. now that'd be a revolution

Clevo has a direct partnership with some 55-ish companies worldwide, the others purchase through one of those.
In smaller/growing markets like in most of Asia the chances are high that the "re-seller" gets them directly from Clevo. Bigger markets like EU or US usually have a longer chain...Last edited: Aug 28, 2015Ionising_Radiation likes this. -

Wow, if this is really the case for Aftershock, it means they are way better than my laptop's reseller (since they had to go through Sager first) -

Aftershock is excellent. Their service is impeccable - blows even Apple out of the water. I had several issues with my laptop last year - they took it in and all it took was one day (sent it in the morning, was ready in the evening by closing time) and zero charge. They even let me in to their assembly area to test-drive X-Plane 10 on the P750ZM (Aftershock W15 - and it was epic). -
The chances of being direct with Clevo in Europe are equally high. In the US you definitely have a small number of big companies, then resellers of those company's brands, but in Europe it's quite different!TomJGX, clevo-extreme and Prema like this.

In the North America there are just three companies that buy directly from Clevo. The rest are either resellers or buy barebones directly from one of those three and rebrand.
Prema likes this. -
Which three? The only one I know is eurocom.
Why don't xoticpc but directly from clevo instead from sager? Just wondering.
Sent from my potato running on Android 5.0.1 -
There is Sager, Pro-star (i believe), and I don't know the third in north America. Eurocom I thought was Europe (i could be wrong).
