I really does depend on the user. But for most gamers they want the latest greatest.

Is that the general consensus? I was looking for the latest and greatest, but if DDR4 and the Skylake Mobile Chips cost an extra $300 then I am out.
I haven't been able to find any hard numbers on what the new costs are. I was thinking the 650SE as well with an upgrade to 16gb of RAM, 250GB SSD, maybe have Windows 10 preloaded on it just to be done with it. Since there is no IPS upgrade that would be it.. How much more is the DDR4 and Skylake chip running over those parts and the 970m? -

DDR4 would be an exception right now as it's not being considered the greatest option. With some time it and improvements it will be though. When it comes to the main components that determine gaming performance like the CPU and GPU then the newest are typically the ones desired.i_pk_pjers_i likes this. -
I heard you need a higher mhz DDR4 to see a performance increase.. What is it 2400MHZ or something that actually shows a decrease in performance? So you need like 2800mhz+ which is unlikely any of the laptops will come with that at launch.
Guess it doesn't hurt for me to wait a few more weeks before pushing the button on a new laptop.. Was looking at the 650SE.. -

Perhaps the only benefit of DDR4 right now is that it allows for double the maximum RAM (from 32GB to 64GB, using 4 x 16GB SODIMM sticks), which is not useful for gaming at all. -
Here DDR3 2667Mhz@CL18:

Those timings tightened a bit and we get something worth while...

You could just about squeeze 2400mhz CL11 out of DDR3, but higher speed DDR4 is likely going to be more common.

Sounds like you are going to have a pretty good set up, that should last you a while. Clevo does make good computers in general. They aren't a huge name, but do have a good community for those who do get them.i_pk_pjers_i likes this. -
will slim versions of skylake models i.e. the successor of p670se include Thunderbolt 3 ports ?
-
As far as I've seen, only the DM models, P750DM, P770DM, and P870DM will have thunderbolt 3.
-
@ssj92 So the P750DM is 15.6", the P770DM is 17.3", and what is the P870DM supposed to be? 18.4" like the Alienware 18s? Or...? Seems very interesting to me.
-
What's the successor to the P570WM going to be, P970DM?
-
Probably won't be one, considering that we now no longer have socketed chipsets for mobile and the move to socketed desktop chips arose as a result.
-
P750DM is the 15.6" ZM successor with desktop Skylake CPUs and an nVidia 9XXM GPU: http://www.clevo.com.tw/clevo_prodetail.asp?id=806&lang=en
P770DM is the 17.3" ZM successor with desktop Skylake CPUs and an nVidia 9XXM GPU: http://www.clevo.com.tw/clevo_prodetail.asp?id=808&lang=en
P870DM is the 17.3" P377XSM-A successor I believe with desktop Skylake CPUs and two nVidia 9XXM GPUs in SLI: http://forum.notebookreview.com/attachments/p870dm-b_v2-0-without-pdf.127268/
I believe the P870DM will be the successor to both P77XSM-A and P570WM series. -
The P570WM doesn't exist yet. Until a socket 2011 or whatever socket is used at the time, there is not a successor. Meanwhile, early next year is supposedly Broadwell Xeon and you won't see a skylake Xeon until Q3 or later. Why make a successor until skylake at earliest? You wouldn't at this point as it would be obsolete quickly. With that said, the P870DM is a design proving ground to figure out the thermal dissipation of a dual mxm setup with a high tdp processor. Just because they use performance desktop processors because of an abandonment of sockets in mobile does not mean they abandon the mobile server style. But, they are competing with ever thinner machines and probably want to accomplish what they previously did with less thickness and weight. But don't expect it until skylake-e at earliest!
-
Hopefully my book will be published by then. If you guys buy enough copies, I'll buy one of them and tell you all about it!!!
-
Or you could do as Dell does. Promote them as Haswell, but secretly ship Skylake units ;-)
Forum users are saying that their order confirmation specifies Skylake as cpu:

Unfortunately in EU the AW15 top model has 965m.
So looking at P505 now, just don't know whether to wait for Skylake.TomJGX, Prema, ajc9988 and 1 other person like this. -
Oh man, the spec sheet on that P750DM has me drooling! Hopefully it has G-Sync and the 1080p screen option will be capable of higher than 60Hz. I think that would be the final nail to buy one in a few months for me.

I doubt they would remove a feature.

Hey guys, I see that the P650RG and P670RG will have a 8GB GTX 980M instead of a 4GB GTX 980M like in the SG variants. Is it known if the new 8GB version in the RG variants will be again soldered or will it be on MXM?

im betting on soldered. 8GB soldered versions of the 980M arent unheard of, they do exist

Soldered like the P650se and sg, essentially using the same chasis, with skylake, ddr4 ram, more vram, and g-sync.

Alright thanks guys, good to know. Still, with the i7-6820HK & 8GB GTX 980M I think it will be fair to say it wouldn't have problems maxing out games (or close to maxing) for a good 2 to 3 years. Now waiting only to see pricing in Europe...

Are they offering bigger PSUs this time around or is it still 150W and 180W like before?
-
I doubt we will see a 330W PSU like in the ZM and DM series, but I really hope they give at least a 230W option.
-
Just found dm on myth logic with a nice array of options

What are the successors for P177sm and P157sm? I just saw the specs of p870dm really impressed with it. Any idea about launch timeline and barebone prices?
-
Also does p870dm have dual psu options ?

And will it handle 990M SLI + i7-6700K without burning down my loft?Last edited: Sep 11, 2015hmscott likes this. -
And a super nice ($$) price
-
well p870dm should handle 990m sli, but i am not bothered about 990m sli as with june/july 2016 pascal mobiles will come, till then even 970m sli is fine. Its just a matter of 10 more months. I am sure gtx 1070m and 1080m will blow off gtx 990m by miles and run cooler. 990m is releasing just to keep the market/consumers speculating and interesting, it will have a very short life just like 880m. For the next 10 months 980m is more than enough.
I am also more interested about thin 17 inch laptops with thunderbolt 3, i really wanted a gs70 with ips, skylake and tb3 but its not happening yet, gs60 is getting it, any other thin 17 inch laptops getting it? -
The stock version for P6xxRG (980M) is now 200W, but you could also connect a third party 240W without modding the connector.
-
Does this mean P6xxRG uses a different connector than P6xxSG?
-
You are right, they at least look the same...sorry never spent much time with the P6, thought they use the P150-ish type connector which could take the old MSI/Dell 240W PSU.
Aren't there any 240W third party bricks by now that come with a bunch of adapters?Last edited: Sep 11, 2015TomJGX likes this. -
I am confused why doesn't Sager just use the 330w psu? is that over kill? I don't see what it could hurt besides being a lil more money but it might be worth it....
-
The 330W bricks are unnecessarily large.
-
yupyup, the users go for the P6 series instead of the P7 for one specific reason: slim form factor. bundle that with a huge 330W psu and it just doesnt make sense anymore
-
Just one 330W Clevo adapter is about twice the thickness of the 240W adapter I got with my M17xR1... They're not laptop bag friendly at all lol. I would have to use my Targus backpack to carry my 9377 around.
-
very true! main reason for getting two psus with my ZM was so that i could leave the 230W stock adapter at work while overclocking to my heart´s content with the 330W model at home
makes riding the bike to work and back home way more comfortable with just the laptop and mouse in the bag
TomJGX, Prema, Chrack and 1 other person like this. -
What's funny is my M17x was definitely heavier (duh, no plastic chassis) and I hauled it to and from work every day... But I wouldn't be able to do that with my Sager because of the brick size...
-
I hope Sager puts in a bigger battery, but that isnt happening..
-
ah well its difficult to make it perfect for everyone out there. some people want MOAR POWAH and dont care about battery, others want long battery time and "sufficient power", whereas some want EVERYTHING: 17 inch 500 Hz display without bezels in a 14 inch chassis, passive cooling, quad sli 990M, dual desktop xeon cpus, 1k W power brick the size of a lighter and 24h battery time at maximum load
oh yeah, and please with a price tag of around 500 bucks
Kommando, SierraFan07, t456 and 5 others like this. -
If that is your attitude towards a "wish list" then why even bother discussing it right?
I just see that they offer only 4 Cell batteries for the most part.. I just figure in this day and age they could offer a 6 Cell.-Michael-Knight-4-Christ- likes this. -
SOLD!!!
Expect that thing tomorrow and not a day later! And 10-year at-home warranty. Including paint, scratches, fading keys, lcd burn and a regular cleaning/repaste service. Also a fresh battery pack each year!
If you want more; diy or battery pack. The Panasonic NCR18650B is still top-of-the-bill (dd 2012). All similar (higher priced) versions are rebrands of the same battery. As for the pack; where multiple capacities are offered, they simply leave out some, leaving empty space. If this is the case with the Clevo, then add the remaining two yourself.jaybee83, Bullrun, i_pk_pjers_i and 1 other person like this.
