My main issue is, a laptop launching probably near the end of this year (or March next year, we don't know) would neither have a Pascal GPU in it, nor, by the looks of it, G-Sync. I couldn't care less for USB-C since 100% of my peripherals still use USB-A, and most peripherals will probably still use USB-A, well into 2017 at least. I'll get USB-C stuff when they're as dirt-cheap as USB-A is now.

That is a very good question. Best to ask Clevo directly.

It makes sense that it is a thicker laptop, with all that is going on in there. Plus, just the angle of the picture or video might not always show how thick they are, just by the angle (like if it shot more from the front or above it). It's good to have pics like that though, to give a better representation of them though.

Would have been nice if they upgraded the cooling system rather than just changing the back plastic covering, indentation.

Asus vapor chamber cooling and dust prevention fans for example.

they implemented larger heatsink fins and thicker heatsink pipes for the gpu as compared to the ZM series and regular P7 DM machines.

Lame. So nothing innovative. Making a more efficient vapor chamber cooling system with quieter fans is beyond Clevo's ambitions. Making the pieces of copper bigger, big woop.

Also where is my refund for my incomplete prototype 980M?

Where is my refund for selling me 770ZM without a eDP supported motherboard? That was incredibly frustrating to find out and cost me to buy the motherboard I expected to upgrade my display to IPS which I also had expected to be standard. Clevo screwed me after spending 2K by cutting every corner possible.

    haters gonna hate

ZM and DM with 980M are already dead quiet at idle and barely break 70C at load with max. oc and high ambient temps. sooo...what exactly is there to improve/innovate on? :D

as for the display connector, depending on the type of screen u initially chose to go for, ud either end up with edp or lvds, as simple as that ;)

So full of it, the cooling system isn't that quiet. And at idle? Who cares, it's idle. Everyone who has seen my laptop has commented the fan noise is annoyingly loud. Unless you are implying Clevo F**** me over with crappy fans and heatpipes also.

Also I want refund for my right speaker buzzing. Pissing me off. This laptop is junk for $2000, cheap corner cuts all over.

They make evds and edp for ChiMei, but chose to be dickheads with P770ZM since the eDP IPS should have been standard as it is now. Stock issues? BS, Asus had plenty of stock, no reason Clevo shouldn't either since you can find this display in abundance from aftermarket shops.

ah well, as an experienced user u should know the drill: undervolt, check paste job, use high perf tim, keep fan vents and fins dustfree, prop machine up, use at regular/low ambient temps (if possible).
cant say i can complain about fan noise, like, ever. whether im gaming, crunching cpu intensive numbers at work, rendering or doing regular office stuff / watching movies. cpu idles in low 50s, goes to high 60s with everyday office work / light to medium loads and barely ever cracks 80s at high load with 42x on all cores and auto fans. as for the 980M: the highest ive ever seen it go was 75C when oced to the bleeding edge at 35C ambient on a hot summer day when looping unigine valley maxxed out at 3K res for an hour. so u can deduct the temps under normal conditions

since fan noise is proportional to temps, u can imagine that ive never really had any issues with it ;)

as for the rest: cant blame clevo for new hardware coming out or not doing your own due diligence@choosing the screen when ordering.

haters gonna hate ;) thats itsl from my side

At the very least, I hope Clevo stops selling laptops for $2000 with speaker buzzing.

WTF... They didn't offer the IPS display at the time I bought it. They sold the ChiMei display with eDP and VDS or whatever it is called without customer's knowledge.

This is not my fault, this is Clevo being ****heads.

Do your research. Plus, drop $300 USD and you can buy the mb with edp... Buyers remorse on your end should not be attributed to the company! :)

It's not buyers remorse. This wasn't a decision from my part, not even Sager. This was completely 100% Clevo, they are the aholes that sent Sager a laptop without eDP support to Sager to sell to me. They sold both motherboards at the same time, I confirmed this with Larry @ LPC. This is not an issue with buyer's remorse at all. Completely 100% on their end.

You can't do research if which worthless motherboard Sager receives from Clevo was arbitrary considering they sold ChiMei screens with LVDS and eDP.

Any consumer affairs mob would laugh you out of court.

You bought a machine specced exactly as it was advertised. If you intended to upgrade or modify it beyond the original spec, then the research into doing that is ENTIRELY on you.
It would've taken all of 5 minutes for you to send an email to your reseller to ask the question and stipulate your requirements. Get an answer in writing, then you have somebody to take it up with.

I'd consider it a lesson well learned.

As for the topic, really hoping we see a P640/650R refresh with a TB3 port otherwise I may have to go for a GS40 or GS60 instead.

love when someone who doesn't take enough time to research things for themselves and then has buyers remorse comes here to complain which is totally the wrong place and their own fault....I think the new design looks great, I am really wondering if it will be possible to put any of these new 980's in my laptop years down the road?? Can't wait til lots of people have them and the modding begins! :)

So that answers my question from earlier as to what you were calling junk. So you made this huge purchase without confirming what you bought? And even after you found out you didn't like what you had you just kept it anyway besides trying to get a refund and maybe taking a hit on a restocking fee?

Lol, technology is such a double edged sword. It's exciting, innovative, life changing etc. and on the other side your always a day late and a dollar short because just when you upgrade, there's another upgrade available. Bottom line, I'm excited for the advancements made in storage, especially the potential of x-point.

So true, i think that's why most of us on here just try to go big at the start and then we are good for awhile :)

Nice choice! Hopefully it will stay current for at least 3 months, it is computers after all :) Either way it's a good choice and will likely make you very happy for years to come (even though there will inevitably new innovations)

Should last a while. Console aren't upgrading for a while, PS4 and XBone sales have been poor all around. Sony and MS I don't think are planning any hardware overhauls for a while.

CPU seems to have stagnated to me. Skylake wasn't much an upgrade over Haswell.

Pascal with HBM2 and NVLink does sound exciting but the 980 should be great for a long time. Though I would prefer a mobile GPU with HBM2 and NVLink over a desktop 980.
