we definitely need more resellers out there offering the 7970M upgrade kit. just got a quote from sager for the kit and including shipping, bank wire transfer international shipping with UPS and the stupid 19% import tax it would go for almost 800$!thats 680M territory!!!
mythlogic? care to do some competitive pricing here?![]()
-
[email protected]
I won't be selling it for much... probably in the $50 to $200 range. I'll most likely be selling it during the Fall/Winter time if you can wait that long haha.
-
What the hell?? -
well sure, the kit only goes for 530$ in my case. but add to that: 110$ shipping to germany, 25$ bank wire transfer fee and 19% import tax = 765 bucks
best thing would be to make the modded vBIOS publicly available so it wouldnt matter where ud get ur 7970M from, ud just go for the best pricing and flash the vBIOS urself -
I'd wait until European resellers and builders offer it. Any comments from them?
-
And fix the vbios stuff yourself like Jaybee83 said....someone just needs to share the Sager info!
-
But we'll take your german CC lol. Especially if you just need the card. -
that's new laptop territory....
UPS is one of the most expensive international shipping agencies that I know of. I will also need international shipping but after seeing your quote it seems like a waste of money and bordering on ridiculous. Unless places like PCSpecialist or box.co.uk start offering these upgrade kits, it is simply not worth it (in my opinion). -
shipping: u dont necessarily have to use UPS, theyre just waaay overpriced in my opinion. i mean, how come eurocom manages to offer me a 69$ shipment?
as for the import tax....lemme send u a PM
id need the gpu with a heatsink, x-bracket/backplate and matching screws. concerning the heatsink i could just use one from the P150EM, since theyre compatible with the HM series -
You will be able to get these in Europe soon if not already. No point paying delivery from the USA.
-
sure theyre available in europe already, but not with the modded vBIOS. thats the culprit here....
still keeping my options open tho, looking around... -
The real problem is to get this vbios, otherwise it shouldn't be too hard to find the cards...
-
sure... but then again....how to flash the vBIOS onto a card that wont run at all in my laptop?
its a chicken and egg kinda problem
-
Unless other resellers get hold of the vbios and start selling the modded cards.
-
You can always blind flash (with an autorun.bat it makes things easier) and the card is actually running, just there's no display.
-
dammnit pwn pcs, go get a hold of that modded vBIOS and give us european HM owners a quote we can live with!
"shut up and take my money!" -
I've got ThinkPad Display 1920x1080 in my laptop after warranty replacement.
Hardwre ID: MONITOR\LEN40B2
Or is it just Lenovo drivers? Why are they installed? Auto Windows Update or Sager rigged me an LCD?.. Weird as shizz.
What are the chances that it'll work with 7970m? -
AUO B156HW01 V4 (AKA 95% Gamut Matte LCD) we're originally commissioned by Lenovo for the W series laptops. Hence why their plug-n-play ID is no AUOXXXX but LENXXX as they were the ones who paid for the R&D and all the screens to be made. Everyone else just buys basically stock off that production line.
So when lenovo produced basically a basic color profile for the V4 screens tuned for their laptops they released it to windows updates with that PNP ID as when to offer it. So thats why if you have a V4 matte screen you get offered that "driver" its not really much of a color profile, and we usually disable that update so its not offered but thats why it shows up like that.
Its just a standard screen it'll work fine. -
i think that all of the p150hms were ok with a vbios mod, so it should be fine, but to be sure go ahead and send sager an email.
-
They offered me to send them the laptop to check the compatibility. I guess they are hurting for work or just nice? It'd be even nicer of them if they packed it and send it over instead of making me send them my laptop at my expense and pay for labor. -
It was mentioned earlier that the screens actually have nothing to do with compatibility, but rather were used as an indication of what revision your motherboard was and if that motherboard was compatible with the 7970M. As I have an upgraded screen, how am I to know? That said, I have an AMD card already.
Perhaps I should skip Sager and talk to Xotic about this, as surely if I gave them my order number they could find out the details of my system, and talk to Sager directly themselves regarding anything I need to know? -
Sager and Lenovo use the same model of 95% gamut screen for their 15.6" notebooks.
- lenovo has registered that screen with windows update so that it will receive automatic updates if it finds that that particular screen is found in any computer
- When you first got your p150hm it probably just said plug and play display
- But after lenovo made a driver update available on windows update, for whatever reason, windows update applied the update to any device with a matching part number, regardless of whether it was lenovo or not, with your permission of course(you probably didnt know what it was so you just checked the box for it)
- Now your device manager says that you have a lenovo display when in reality it isnt made by lenovo it is made AUO or some other screen making company.
- The point is that it doesnt really matter what the screen is because sager said that the 7970m worked in all p150hm as long as the vbios had enduro disabled. of course they were clueless, lenovo unknowingly gave free drivers to products that weren't theirs, and they didnt know that sager was using the same part, and neither did sager.

Well...I guess I'm super late to the party and totally have no idea what's going on.
I bought a Sager np8170 3D model with a 485m from LPC Digital in July 2011. After owning the thing for the year and experiencing 3d vision firsthand and how it totally destroys my card's performance...I'm hooked and want more. So I was thinking about upgrading to a 680m. Then I read a couple of pages of this thread.
Could someone kindly update a lost soul on the status of 680m compatibility for this model?
(I already know about the whole cross platform incompatibility w/ AMD, plus y'know, 3d vision junkie).
I know that NVIDIA themselves has to enable Driver support for 3d vision, but let's face it, an np9170 3d / p170em3 will get here eventually, it's only a matter of time. But what's the point of waiting if my damn laptop won't boot when I put the thing in for 2D gameplay!!
I can't go back to a 60hz screen. I just can't.
Also, has new MXM spec been released?? I guess it's to much to hope that the GTX 780m will be compatible in summer 2013 -
According to Sager the p170hm3 with a 7970m does not work, as is tradition with that notebook and amd cards.
There havent been any tests for the 680m because its still under nda, if i do declare, and such.
There has been a new revision of mxm, called mxm 3.1, but its backwards and forewards compatible with mxm 3.0b, the only difference is it supports pcie 3.0, which only has increased bandwidth compared to pcie 2.0, but there will be no difference in performance as cards such as the gtx 590 and 6990 run off of one pcie 2.0 slot with no bandwidth bottlenecking whatsoever. Also i dont think there are any chipsets that actually have this new mxm3.1 yet so there is nothing to worry about on that front.
so basically wait and chill like the rest of us folks waiting for the 680m.
on a sidenote, i overclocked my p150hm to 90hz on the screen and its so smooth, i cant even imagine how 120hz looks.
good luck -

Anyone who has recieved their Sager upgrade kit sofar?

Sager gotta serve customers who is waiting for their shiny new notebook before throwing HD 7970m into upgrade kits.

The mission is not complete, first we haven't got any guarantee of the compatibility of the GTX680M, second: only sager had made an effort, so the price is huge for a lot of european customers. Congratulation to sager, for the test on the 7970m, for releasing a compatible version but Why do you close the petition?
-
mythlogic is working on it as well, and their prices are definitely much better than sager`s, especially for european customers
i guess well just have to wait a bit till other resellers catch on with the modded vBIOS.
and yeah, would be great if the same could be done for the 680M as well!
cheers -
-
the price from sager if you have a sager is 430, the price from mythlogic is 430 regardless of if you have a sager or not, so its your choice if you have a sager, but if you dont then go through mythlogic.

there is a bios editor for 7970m here : New BIOS editor software published - techPowerUp! Forums
do you think that enduro could be desactivate with this tool? -
EEEK! I'm so friggin' excited! Thank you Sager, and thank you all whom pitched into this effort. Big rep to Kingpinzero!!!
Now I have to decide if I should wait another month or so for the 680M... -
hahaha, nice one virale, you speak our minds
what kinda machine do u have?
-
I think i will wait the GTX680M and if there wasn't solution to make it compatible with P150HM or if the cost is too huge then i will go for the 7970M.
-
Kingpinzero ROUND ONE,FIGHT! You Win!
Thanks Virale, but this is everyone merit
-
Well I'm just waiting on a final reply from Sager regarding the payment process, and a shiny new 7970M will be on its way soon.
I'll be sure to let you guys know if I encounter any problems with my AUO panel once I have it installed. -
same here, finalizing a "deal" with mythlogic, cant wait

OT: sorry about tre kronor btw! @euro
i myself will have a hard time coming up now with the quarter finals@germany vs. greece (both my home nations!)
-
-
yeah well i guess ill just cheer EVERY goal that happens, no matter for which team
i would have preferred that constellation in the finals tho
-
sweden vs france tonight, but as you said, we're out of euro... so not very exited about that game. I'm suprised that greece made it, maybee a re-run of 2004?
-
MX4 should do.... -
good times for HM users
and soon ebay will be flooded with 485M/580M/6970M/6990M gpus

All in all, Sager has been great throughout the whole process. I had a lot of questions before I ordered that they promptly answered. The end of the month cannot come any sooner! -
This is all good news but I really want to see a 680m in my laptop, if that doesn't happen I will get the 7970m or just a 11.6" sager
