YES, thats my problem in a nutshell....id LOVE to stick with Clevo, but not like this! AW would be the only other viable option, unless MSI, Samsung and Asus would seriously pimp up their game when it comes to high-end laptops. AW is just so damn expensive and way too flashy to be taken seriously....by an adultfor kids, sure, very colorful and bling bling all around, its a perfect toy
aside from that, i dont like the keyboard design at all, ugh....

We wanted to provide a quick status update regarding 7970M on HM series. Attached is a screenshot of what we have achieved so far.
We have got the 7970M posted and booted into windows on a Sager NP8150.
The driver is installed but still has some issues. We are continuing to diligently work to resolve these issues quickly and hope that functionality, performance and stability testing can start shortly.
Sager once again wants to thank its users for their understanding and patience.
Also I just want to let you guys know that the System BIOS, System HW, 7970M HW is untouched in anyway as of now.
-
very good news indeed, assuming no hardware finagling was required.
-
This is great news! Knowing that Sager is listening to their customers makes me feel better about getting a P150EM.
-
SlickDude80 Notebook Prophet
i don't want to pop anyone's bubble, but we already have had independent testers try 7970m in the HM and it will last less than 5 mins until the EC shuts the computer down...but at least this shows that someone is looking into it
-
Will you move to checking it on the Sager NP8170 next?
My model is a Clevo P170HMx that shipped with a AMD card so im really looking forward to hear if it can take the card or not. -
thx for the headsup/reminder slick. but yeah, its a first step, much better than what we had before, namely nothing

Kingpinzero ROUND ONE,FIGHT! You Win!
Thats really a good news Sager, thanks for keeping your word on the test.
I would like to ask if you can share some other details on what it has been done to get the card working.
You mentioned already that the card runs on stock Bios, which basically makes us P150hm users happy enough.
There are other tweaks involved?
Heatsink modifications?
Driver tweaks or official clevo ones?
Is this card the one from the second batch?
Also if you can share with us the status of the testing; you mentioned that is not done yet because there are a few issues to address.
Thanks alot, at least i still have some faith in you guys. Based on the answers i will try to get a card someway for my HM.
I will update definitely the OP and the petition once you will call "closed" this kind of tests. -
Very good news Sager
Now lets try the NP8170P170HM
-
Excellent news Sager!!!!!
-
@Sager: Have you plan to test the gtx680m in the P150HM?
-
Kingpinzero ROUND ONE,FIGHT! You Win!
^ well they have to, I hope so at least. If not we can politely ask to other resellers to do the same and put this whole petition to rest.
It will take sometime anyway as it should be available from September? -
35 pages of crying and making so many people question Sager for...???
-
Sager are the elites ;-) the only ones sofar who has cracked this puzzle open
Hope they will get the P150HM run completely stable with 7970M, now what they can get it run pretty good, now its just stability
And then move on to the Clevo P170HMand make it work there too!
-
well duh, they should better be the ones to crack this thing, them being the closest reseller to clevo and all
as to the "35 pages of crying": what do u think we would have accomplished without this petition? absolutely nothing! and now we are on our way to getting nextgen gpu upgrades! seriously? totally worth it if u ask me -
Kingpinzero ROUND ONE,FIGHT! You Win!
I feel like i did something good for once in my life guys lol
Seriously we've got somewhere even if our hopes weren't that high from start.
Let's hope Sager answer my questions and keep us updated. -
that's unbelievable news!!!!!
hope they make 7970m work on our HM without issues!!!
-
Good evening.
Just a question : the bench realised with the NP8150 could be as successful with a P150HM (I mean with a Clevo Bios) ?
Thanks to Sager and the people who fight for the upgrade of our laptop. -
I seriously hope this will not affect the new EM series laptops from Clevo as i am purchasing my very first laptop and have decided on the P170EM, i am very happy with price/performance wise but if i can't upgrade again in a year i am definitely buying Alienware.
-
2nd update,
we got two NP8170 POSTed now, one will require an external monitor as it should its a NV only HW version.
Second unit is an AMD / NV universal unit and it's posting correctly using onboard LCD panel with no shutdowns. it is currently reloading windows for a quick pass of QC. screen shots will be provided later. (Tomorrow)
to answer some questions:
1. the 7970M is from the first batch, we will retest with the second batch of the 7970M once possible.
2. no Physical HW has been modified.
3. NO system bios / EC Firmware has been modified
The issue: Cards VBIOS is enabled for Enduro on, so the card would not initialize until an iGPU is first initialized.
The Solution: get the cards VBIOS to initialized without the iGPU. (not a black / white list in the system BIOS)
Current SW issue: GPU Driver Only (so far its working but without customization options), Driver with CCC (3dmark 11 would lose focuses and stop).
Left to do: further compatibility, stability, performance, and functionality testing on more HW versions and next batch of the Cards., find the best upgrade solution to Sager customers. -
-
So this means that my Clevo P170HMx, that shipped with a AMD Radeon HD 6970m might be the universial unit?
If this actually works im hoping one day that i can just buy a HD 7970m + the heatsink for the P170EM and it should work.
+1 for Sager. -
word, im glad sager/clevo didnt force me to choose between them and alienware
really takes a load off!

This is great and unexpected news. Mine shipped with a Nvidia so I don't know where that leaves me but at least the 680M may be an option. If this all works out, I see no reason to ever jump ship and I won't be afraid fo purchase an EM series too.
-
-
first to comment, lovely job <3
-
Good to see these compatibility issues being looked into.
-
Yay!! I can now sleep easier knowing that when the time comes for me to upgrade my GPU, it should be supported!!!
-
Sager do you think that we will be able to upgrade our EM series to the next years cards if they are MXM 3.0 and 100W like these ones? That would be awesome; even though I know at this point it is all theoretical

Kingpinzero ROUND ONE,FIGHT! You Win!
Thank you for replying my questions, I'm sure other customers had the same ones as well.
I would like to ask if Sager will think out something to provide upgrade kits to HM owners that aren't US residents as well, since with all the community effort we reached this milestone.
As you may aware of a lot of customers are from EU region and it's hard/almost impossible to get parts or upgrade plans here, as most resellers wouldn't allow parts to be sold individually.
Some sort of official "green light" would be ok I guess otherwise we could be cut out forever.
Also I may want to point out that even if you didnt had CCC installed the 3dmark11 score looks perfectly fine and inline at stock clocks compared to AW or MSI machines leaving a good room for OC.
Thank you for your efforts I'm sure that this sign of good will and customer caring makes people more happy and less mad that they were when I started this.
Once I get the final confirmation I will update OP and Petition accordingly. You may want to shoot me a PM just in case and I will take care of it.
Since I've been the one that started this along with everyone overwhelming feedback and contribute is my duty to give answers and close this case.
Now I hope we get the same kind of tests with the 680m as well since Nvidia has just unveiled it. -
Wow, 5789 points..
I am looking forward to this card on my P170Hm..
Yes Sager you RoX!!!! -
Thank you, Sager.
-
Thank you sager for your effort.
The Gtx680m will be available to market at end of june.
Hope you will do the same test withn this card.
Hope that we can buy Gpu upgrade kit for all clevo P1XXHM without living in the US. -
THANK YOU SAGER!!!
Great news -
Kingpinzero ROUND ONE,FIGHT! You Win!
Guys do we agree on asking Sager, when their internal tests end (giving everything goes smooth), to setup an upgrade plan for us HM users?
I wouldn't mind dealing with them directly. Some of us are Europeans and that makes our hopes to find parts very slim.
Maybe if we can ask for an official upgrade plan/channel it would make things easier for everyone.
Since there could be a chance that those cards will require some sort of mods I would be sleep safe and sound knowing that I can get those parts directly from them.
Granted this could lead to some extensive resource use from Sager side but I want to believe that they want the best for their customer .
The idea can work either directly from them or from an official reseller. If not it would be ok to officially put a green light on it in order to have other builders selling the parts.
What you think guys? -
Should be able to buy a HD 7970m off Multicom, a Norwegian Clevo builder as long as i ask nice and flash some cash.
But if we need to flash a special vBios to turn off Enduro then it might be a little tricky.

I am curious if Sager will release which main-board revisions that are officially compatible with the new 7970m series cards.
i.e. we will need to know somehow which main-board we have to identify if the upgrade is an easy swap or requires more effort/vbios update, etc.
Either way I am very happy. I can only assume sager will come back with more information identifying the models and which are possible to be upgraded or require a vBIOS update, etc
Very happy... -
I am in the UK and it would be great if we could get an official upgrade kit from a reseller or something we can trust. I think some resellers would be happy to do such a thing, they could take care of the flashing and making sure it all works properly. After seeing some resellers passion concerning this upgrade, that is the only reason why I think it is a viable option.
Identification of a users current main-board will be the first step in the order process of course. -
Kingpinzero ROUND ONE,FIGHT! You Win!
Anyway thanks for the tip. If i will face problems into getting one i can count at least on another reseller.
Never heard of Multicom btw. -
Sager, are you using original Clevo BIOS or your own (Sager) BIOS in your tests?
I've accidentally updated my BIOS with Clevo version of it and now I can't go back to Sager BIOS without bricking my laptop as far as I know.
Are you planning on creating new GPU support for both or just yours (Sager) BIOSes? -
Kingpinzero ROUND ONE,FIGHT! You Win!
I think they will explain the requirements needed for the upgrade. I dont mind switch to Sager bios if this helps me getting the card to work. -
There might be an issue switching to a sager BIOS. Myth have also said they would test so might wait to see what they say.
-
-
Any European resellers able to comment on upgrades?
-
We'll need to see exactly what they did to be able to have a comment from anyone on this... also time will show
