I don't think having a Clevo or Sager main BIOS is at all a factor here, as they haven't reported needing to make any BIOS changes to get the 7970M equipped machine to POST and launch windows, so the Sager one still has identical functionality as Clevo's.

You make a good point, but I'm not familiar with all the different BIOS' available around, and what differences and similarities they've got

If you change the update script to update the EC & BIOS without to shutdown in between, you can go back and forth between Clevo & Sager BIOS. :D

Also they either changed the vBIOS or the sBIOS settings.

So, you're saying that removing the REBOOT line from .bat file and updating EC & BIOS one right after the other without rebooting won't brick my laptop if I'm switching from Clevo BIOS back to Sager? Is there a thread that proves that or something?

YES, that's what you do. I do it all the time and had many testers doing it on their systems.

What he said. Prema is the closest thing we have to a sager software engineer in NBR. And maybe better even.

Let's just hope they do the same for the 680M.
As the 660 doesn't work on HM either, nor does 3D on 675M on P170HM3... ;)

Hey guys, do you think it would be possible to purchase a 7970M from Malibal?

I'm really excited, especially after watching the next-gen Final Fantasy engine trailer and some screens of Unreal 4 + teaser:

I need to upgrade, I don't think my 6990M would be able to handle next-gen games! LoL planning for the future Now! ;)
7970M/680M are almost on par with GTX580 so that should be good enough!

6990M can handle next gen games of course, it is still a decent card. Just not as supremely well as the 7970M :D

I don't think so man, did you watch SE Next-Gen engine?
    Even Unreal 4 needs GTX680 to run 30FPS @1080p

So yeah, 7970M/7990M/680M is required!

That actually makes more sense than rebooting between flashing. Thanks! I'll do that if I'll have a need.

I wonder why the disclaimer in red in OP wasn't revised in this thread though.

Because Sager have custom EC on some systems and if it is flashed with a shutdown before a matching BIOS is also installed then it maybe the last. :)
And of course Blacky can't verify what others tell him, so he's doing it the safe way.

    Exactly!

I don't want people to come to me complaining that they bricked their machines. So far no one has done so.

My logic is that if you really want to do something complicated and unsupported, you better do your research before that. Read forums, google, etc. I don't have the time to tell everyone what to do and how. Most of the stuff I know regarding laptops I've learnt from this forum so I am sure others can figure it out as well.

I don't think the GTX 680 only ran at 30 fps with Unreal 4... Unless it was Ultra settings with full AA. I would hope that they would optimize the games enough to allow a GTX 680 to run them at 50 fps. The 7970m OC'd should hopefully run the Unreal 4 games on High settings w/ SMAA injector [prbly not MSAA or FXAA as they are more stringent on requriements]. I'd be happy if I could run High 1080p I'd be happy; We'd definitely be capable to run the games on Medium 1080p but I would really like High if we OC'd hehe.

There aren't any; the engine isn't out yet. It's planned release is in 1.5-2.5 years; no one is sure though.

Yes but I hope the 7970m can handle them if they are better optimized/we get better drivers. If not I may have to upgrade to 8970m or 8990m in the next year or two hehe :p

Up until the next set of consoles come out, the 7970M will be a beast for all new games. Once the PS4/Xbox 3 come out, you will see a bunch of games that will just be ridiculous for the 7970M. Not like the 7970M won't be usable, but it won't be running any thing on high in 2014.

If the consoles are released this year or next year I doubt they will match the poewr of the 7970m. If they come out in 2014 of course they will be more powerful. I think it will run games med/high without AA in 2014. I plan on upgrading in 2 years though either way.

@jaug1337: Gtx680m is not release for the final customer yet, but some integrator have announced already this card in their model, so they have GTX680M in little quantities in order to make tests ... I will be very happy if sager could announce a solution for a 7970M upgrade, but i will be also enthusiast if they announce some alternative with a GTX680M (the polemic of the price have no place in the choice of certain customers).

Top priority is finish tests and tweaks on the 7970m since theres a good chance to have them working stable.
I hope they let us know something soon.
In the meanwhile some resellers that have the 680m already could do some tests, even if that's plug and play. Just to get an idea.
Mythologic already tested the 660m with no luck, probably the 680m will suffer the same fate.

Okay thanks, should we take that as a proof of something, like our petition actually moved some waters?
They're pointing directly to Sager, like they know what they're doing for getting the 7970m working in HM models.
It's like they acknowledged the whole story.
Its a victory if that's the meaning.

I believe the 680M's they've got are ES, also do keep in mind they are NOT allowed to say anything crucial about the cards due to the ETA.. we'll have to wait until the time is right and some legit reviews go live ;)

Hopefully this goes through because I would like my P150EM to upgrade to 8970m or 8990m next year. The 7970m should run Unreal 4 but definitely not full AA / lighting effects / ultra settings. Maybe High w/ low AA though. 8970m next year will probably max it out though but who knows at this point. They used a GTX 680 to max it out and thats a good 40-50% more beast than the 7970m. So next year maybe we get a mobile card that is almost as powerful as a GTX 590 or possibly 680. If its within 15-20% then we are set; and at this rate it should be. Can't wait to upgrade in a year or two haha. Tech is crazy.

WoW, thanks man! good to know :D

I don't think the engine was maxed with a single 680, I heard it was 30FPS @1080p...we all know 30FPS is not max! :p

Also, they said games using UE4 won't appear anytime soon, like another 1-2years, so no need to hurry, if an 8970M/8990M is on par with GTX680, then that would be the GPU to look forward to!

God most of us dont have a new gpu yet and we're already talking about how UE4 will cripple today high end gpus? lol cmon peeps :)

Prolly a 7970m or 680m will run such games at 720p with high details, im willing to bet.

Anyway this is just a small bump, i wonder if Sager has some news to spare.

Petition is going strong: this week we got 26 more signatures, approaching 200 signs target. :)
