So what does the UOV stand for? I understand the UV mod and the OV mod as they both make intuitive sense. :D

So you get the power savings for daily work, just like with the UV EDITION, and the higher 3D Overclocking potential of the OV EDITION all in one single version. ;)

That is a great idea! Is an OV'd and OC'd 650M on par with a 660M?

I'm not sure how far the OC is possible to go on these models but I've heard quite a few users being able to push their 650m's to the 660m levels. Then again you'd be able to push the 660m even further if you overclcock it as well.

we can OC to similar clock speeds as the 660m (about 1200mhz on average) but we will still trail by about 30-40%due to the low memory bandwidth, the clockspeed scaling is less than 30% for this GPU.

I've got the latest 1.5 UOV Bios and Throttlestop setup correctly, however my GPU will throttle below stock clocks, even when I haven't touched anything.

The laptop is a W110ER and is plugged in using the supplied 120W power adapter. The CPU is a 3630QM and the GPU is the GT 650M 2GB DDR3 variant from PC Specialist.

Ignore the bit where it says Kombuster is using the IGP, it's not (as you can see via the MSI & HWiNFO64 overlay, and is just a quirk of Optimus I imagine).

All newer Nvidia cards have a protection and throttle in Kombuster & Furmark...just use anything else and it will be fine. ;)

Just retested and you are right. Unigine Heaven is playing ball now.

Any idea what sort of extra boost speeds I should be getting on the core and memory with a DDR3 variant of the 650m?

I was wondering if USB3 ports work @ full speed with UV 1.5 BIOS in W110ER?
I can't use 2.x version, cause by default my Vengeance RAM sets JEDEC timings @ 1866Mhz which are lower than RAM is advertised to handle and it becomes instable...
In version 1.4 USB3 ports work @ 2.0 speed for me however...

Not sure we do trail by 30-40%, more like 20 if anything. The GDDR5 only helps along at resolutions like 1080p and even then, the cores/shaders choke way before the 30-40% point in many applications. Of course, some games benefit massively from the GDDR5 memory, but many don't show /that/ huge of a benefit. If anything, it usually means you can go up a detail level at 1080p and maintain the same frame rate as the 650M with the 660M. In some cases, means you can maintain 30fps constant where the 650m trails a little, just like with Planetside 2. The 650m can't seem to quite handle PS2 at medium @1080p, while the 660M is comfortable.

Prema, thinking of installing your bios on my w350etq but I am unsure which version to download from your blog. The 2.X version (1920x1080) says windows 8 and I am running windows 7. The stock bios is just to return to your OEM bios right? So will the 2.X version be ok for my OS? As you can probably tell, I know little about flashing or updating my bios. Sorry if this has been asked before. Just want to be 100% sure before I proceed.

Also the ME firmware, is it necessary, or suggested when updating the bios? What does it do exactly?

Sorry the Win8 info was misleading as it is good for 7 & 8 or whatever OS you prefer.
Stock BIOS is just to return to latest origanal Clevo version for warranty etc.
The ME handles some CPU/Chipset voltage stuff and it's good to keep it updated, but not mandatory.

    ENJOY! :)

Thanks for the fast reply! That is what I figured, but I didn't want to pull the trigger before being absolutely sure. I am new to tinkering with the BIOS, so I just want to proceed with caution. Oh and a question about the screenshot you posted for the W350/370ET BIOS in the owners thread. Are the OC settings shown on Nvidia Inspector (+275 MHz Base Clock +450 MHz Mem Clock) the optimal settings for the GTX 660M? Or do you recommend that we adjust our own settings incrementally to find the sweet spot?

Thanks for all of your help and hard work dedicated to helping other Clevo owners delve into their systems.

Alas I wish this was the case. Too many people compare using 3dmark 11 which accurately depics the similar shaders output to the 660M but his benchmark seems to be very shaders bound with little consideration for memory bandwidth. You should see the difference in 3dmark vantage which is very sensitive to memory speed.
I was actually shocked when I played deus ex hr, the frame rates were comfortably over 50FPS but there was actually a noticeable stutter every few minutes. Same thing with battlefield 3 multilayer, just look really hard and you will see.

Your going to need the 2.x BIOS to get full speed if you are running Win8. The best solution for you may be to write using ThaiPhoon Burner (Guide at: http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m11x/576475-how-update-spd.html ) a correct JEDEC profile 1 so that you can use the 2.x BIOS and have the correct settings.

Prema everything worked perfectly updating to your v2.1, although when I went to restart after initial install the laptop shut off abruptly but then restarted a few seconds later. To tell you the truth I almost bricked in my chair for those few seconds, but then I saw an unfamiliar background image and I knew it had worked. I didnt play with much and left most settings default until I read more on this forum. I err on the side of caution. I did enable the GT overclocking. Does this provide a boost, or do I have to use software to OC the iGPU further?

Right off the bat my Windows Experience Index went from 5.9 to a 7.3, which I had been loosing sleep over since I invested in this machine ;). Thanks again, awesome job!

Will the 3810QM run around the same temperatures as the 3610QM?
I am in China now, I see some qualification samples that are for sale. Maybe thinking of upgrading, the 8MB cache looks good :O

My 3612QM (35W) doesn't run any cooler than the 45W that I have seen.
I would guess that it will heat up more if you do something like encoding work, where the CPU is taxed constantly at its higher multis, but not in regular use...

I was only going off of frame rates I've seen in actual games, not benchmarks, which are pointless in real world terms. This is based off of what I've seen on notebookcheck.net, many of the benchmarks being done on the XMG A502 (? off of the top of my head) with a 1080p display and lower than stock clock speeds, although with 100mhz faster clocked memory. And I'm pretty damned sure this was the DDR3 version. Frame rates varied from a boost of something like 8fps-30fps but it tended to sit more in the mid range of those figures.

I haven't really seen much stuttering from the 650m and trust me, I f*cking notice it, my 560Ti is ALWAYS stuttering in BF3 and Crysis 3. If I put the thing at sensible settings @1080p I don't really suffer stuttering that much, but it really depends. I think I may have seen it in BF3 once or twice.

    Howdy all!

I'll try to keep it short and sweet. First of all, great thread! Prema, it looks like you're providing some great stuff to W-series owners. If I end up using your bios I will donate :)
I'm planning on picking up a W370ET this morning (i7-3630QM, 16GB RAM). I'm primarily going to be using this machine for work - hosting OSX via parallels for video editing, 3D, etc. - as I already have a great gaming desktop setup. It seems that OC'ing is one of the main reasons to use your bios, but I don't really plan on overclocking either the GPU or the CPU - but I also don't want the system to be limited in any way. Taking that into consideration, and the fact that I don't fully understand all the benefits of flashing to most recent version, would you (the royal you) recommend a flash for my situation? Thanks to all who respond, 'tis much appreciated!

For video Editing & encoding work you may want to use the TDP Turbo & Time options in the mod, as they will make sure you get the max out of your stock clocks and the keep your CPU up there even without OC (make sure to use Throttlestop in conjunction if you are running the GT660M at the same time to keep the Turbo Boost on).
Also small things like setting the RAM to T1 Timings may make it a tad more responsive...

Are you referring to the latest mod release (v2.1 I think?) Also, I was a little confused about whether that mod would work for Win7 systems. Lastly, when you say T1 are you referring to the command rate? Thanks a ton!

You can't set the CL timings on the v2.1 version (Intel Haswell>Aptio>Clevo conspiracy)...

BUT, also no need to change the others as command rate is independent.

Prema, I absolutely love the BIOS mod and wish I updated a while ago. I truly appreciate the time you have spent/dedicated to helping others, especially me. I have already thanked you a few times for your help and patience so I figured to I ought to show it. I know that none of us here work for free, and you can't get by or pay the bills with gratitude. So I sent a token of my appreciation via pay pal. I know $20 isnt much, but I figured that anything helps. Keep up the great work and continue to bestow your knowledge to novices like myself. Thank you much!!

I'm sorry but I'm quite a noob at this. I've just ordered an Aftershock X15 (Clevo P150EM); I can just flash the BIOS using the custom one over the old one? Does this void my warranty? Are the features for the custom BIOS the same throughout all the models as depicted on Page 1? And has anyone tried overclocking the RAM on the P150EM to around 2133MHz?

Sure you can just flash it. Feature for W- & P-Series are targeted towards the audience, according to what is possible and completely different. Check on my blog for feature details.
As for warranty it depends on your re-seller, some support the use of the mods, some officially don't but won't void your warranty if you still do and then some even tell you that you will loose your warranty if you change the CPU on your own.... ;)

    Hi,

Will a P170em (from pcspecialist.co.uk) be able to run 1866MHz RAM, without or with some Prema bios love?

Thank you Prema for those Moddet-BIOS File, it seems to give me lower Fan-Speed then the Original one, which results in lower Noise.
Cause i never got Temperature Problems with my CFX Config, i really like it!

But one Question still exist for me, how did u changed the Boot-Logo, it seems the Clevo & Your Files are not openable with AMIBCP etc.?
(I think it is the same Question AllisOne asked here!)

I used to get ~5 to 5.5 hrs on battery with just light web(via a bluetooth tether) and word document use but it has been several months since I last had a day when I wasn't able to plug in for a bit as the day went along.

If you are really paranoid about battery life there is a nice external battery pack that is the exact same size and shape as the bottom of the w110er that will approximatly triple your battery life. http://forum.notebookreview.com/sag...-w110er-first-look-review-99.html#post8707662
