From what I recall at the time (and why I've resisted updating beyond BIOS03) it was just crossing the boundary backwards that was the issue. If you had BIOS03 or older currently installed you could move upto 03 and still go back down or change the type of 03 you where using (say go from a PRIMA to a Mythlogic BIOS that was 03 or earlier) but once you cross over to BIOS04 you could never go back down.
If you are getting it new today it will likely come with the newest stock BIOS so you wouldn't be able to go back down to a 03 or earlier BIOS.
The only solution I ever heard was either using a tweaking program or running BOINC or similar crunching program on at least 1 core. BOINC is pretty good about halting when you use the comp. This doesn't help your battery life but it does work when plugged in to keep the frequency up enough to keep the whine away. -
Just got me some Kingston 1866mhz CL11 HYperX PNP RAM, these are definitely not write protected so you can use Thaiphoon to flash the SPD. I got mine running at 1866 CL10 just like the bad old days with my Samsung sticks. The only issue is I had to increase the Command rate to 2T for full stability while my Samsung sticks could do 1T. For some weird reason, one of my Samsung sticks is not protected while the other one is, such a shame since they could OC really well,
-
You can flash the Kingston 2133Mhz Thaiphoon dump straight to the 1866Mhz sticks and they run fine...
-
Can the W110er boot in to 2133mhz directly via SPD? I read some people had trouble getting their HyperX 2133 PNP sticks to get a long with Clevo machines
-
Wow! I never knew that and I have been running my HyperX since I bought the system!
What is the Thaiphoon mod to the ram?
Can anyone show me a guide or some information on this?
-
Actually, you were running the exact same hyperx sticks so I knew they would work before buying
. Thaiphoon is a $15 program that can modify and flash the spd chip of the ram sticks. I think it was originally meant for system builders or resellers but it works beautifully if the ram chip doesn't have a protected spd. You don't need to use thaiphoon if you are not using the 2.x series of prema bios as the bios memory over clock does a better job. That being said, thaiphoon allows the creation of xmp profiles which includes voltage mods but only the 1.x series of prema mod allows the use of xmp. The best part is that you can always create an xmp profile even if the ram is spd protected.
If someone is feeling brave, I'm onterested how far the Kingston hyperx or samsung ram can go on 1.65v -
Can anyone with W110ER with Latest Prema Bios, latest INTEL\Nvidia GPU drivers..... Check if you can run Age of Empires 2 HD.
I'm getting tired of this crap.
Latest games like Bioshock, BF3.......... are running FINE, but most 2D little games or old games are running BAD.
I'm playing for example BEEP (which looks like Super Mario, and it runs lagged). It runs fine on my old 2006 ASUS laptop. Can't also play Slender 3rd party game any good....
And the thing is using Intel or Nvidia GPU is almost the same bad framerate.
And I checked like on Age of Empires 2 HD Intel GPU stays at 100% all the time, and it's lagged.
Running on the Nvidia GPU it stay at around 41%, temps around 60Cº.
The thing is Intel HD should be even more than enough to run Age of Empires II HD and all of those little 2D games, but they aren't running any good here, and worse is that even on the Nvidia GPU they still have lag.
Keep Cool -
Yes the Kingston 2x4GB 2133Mhz JEDEC work just fine on the W11...we can also cross-flash the 1866 to 2133.
After making a backup with Thaiphoon Burner of EACH of your "Kingston HyperX PnP 4GB 1866Mhz" RAM you can flash this stock "4GB Kingston HyperX PnP 2133Mhz" dump to the sticks. Make sure to
Test one by one though to make sure they can take it (all 4 of mine did). -
Thanks for the informative post. I am using the v1.5. What do you recommend me to run on my hyperx through the bios oc?
Do I set it on 2133mhz xmp? Or do you have any specs that I should use first?
Thanks!!!!
-
I can get my hyperX sticks to 2133mhz 12-12-12-36 with Command Rate at 2T. I think these sticks can probably do 11-12-11 at 2133mhz 2T but I'm figuring out how to get Thaiphoon to do this (its much harder since Thaiphoon can mod down to fractions of timing).
If you are brave theres a roundabout way to overvolt the RAM, use Thaiphoon to create an XMP profile, with the XMP profile set it to stock 2133mhz with 12-12-12-36 timings (or 2133L JEDEC binning) but jack the voltage to 1.65v. This is to ensure the RAM will boot properly. Then use the prema 1.x BIOS to enable XMP profile and I'm confident you will be able to push the HyperX timings to 9-11-10-36 with 2N. -
I have AoE 2 HD installed, i just had like a framerate cap, wich produced a kinda lag. i pushed scrolls peed and game speed and it was much better.i think this game is cpu based.
-
If you own Thaiphoon just flash the original 2133 dump from the page before to the sticks...that's all.
-
No I don't.
Just curious what it would do.
But I'm using your v1.5 bios mod, so what do I need to change in the bios to have it running stable but a bit faster?
Everytime I try to change the ram settings the laptop will not turn on
-
Try changing the CAS, tRCD, tRP, tRAS and Command Rate to 12-12-12-36-2T and set the frequency to 2133mhz. If this doesn't work, it could be that your sticks simply cannot take those frequencies. Failing that, you can try to tighten the timings at 1866mhz to 10-10-10-30-1T, this will definitely improve system snappiness.
-
nothing works, it all fails to boot
so sad...
-
have you tried taking the sticks out and swapping slots? I rann in to a similar issue overclocking my old Samsung sticks.
-
No luck...
-
These are the timings of the original Kingston 2133Mhz RAM:
12-12-12-36-16-171-6-8-8-15-27
If that doesn't work also set N-Mode to 2
If that also doesn't do the trick keep N-Mode to 2 and use 12-13-12-48...
Good Luck!

Hi guys,
I'm just looking for a bit of help with my w110er. It was one of the blessed few with the coil wine problem and after flashing the newest ME and bios it's still an issue. I already guess that I would have to do more.... but I have no clue what? Also the fan behavior is now up the wazuu.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
-
hey Prema, what would be the exact timings at 1866Mhz ?
-
Hello all, I have a possible bug to report.
My W110ER arrived a couple of days ago. There is one strange thing I have noticed in both Prema Mod 1.5 and 2.1. Even though I have set Battery Low Alarm Beep to Disabled, I still get this shrilling beep at 4% battery. I have loaded defaults, flashed Clevo's BIOS and reflashed Prema Mod, nothing helped. (Edited to say the beep can be disabled in Clevo's BIOS as expected.)
It's not a huge problem but still awkward when you get this firedrill alert from a supposedly quiet laptop. A workaround is of course to get the OS to sleep/hibernate at, say, 6%. Still, I'd like to know is it just me or does anyone else see this behavior.
(Oh and I do get a coil whine/buzz but don't find it a big problem.) -
I have the latest non-OV Prema Mod.
Overclocking the vram passed 800mhz(1600mhz) causes crashes in games, what's with this? I can get maybe 20 mins of gameplay at 875mhz.

Every chip is different and will clock differently.
-
Actually, I just remembered I got the motherboard replaced, so the old clocks will definitely not work with the same voltage..... SO it might be a core issue and not the vram, because 1GHz is a huge difference from one motherboard to another.
-
IRC disabling the beep just sets it to a lower percentage before it beeps again, it's the same on stock or mod...if it switches off before beep then the battery thought it still had more juice left than it really had...
-
Heh, ok
Good to know before I open it on low battery during lectures
-
Stock Kingston HyperX PnP reports in BIOS as 11-11-11-32-16-150-5-8-8-15-26
-
I sadly say that my ram cannot be overclocked. I must be doing something wrong. Everytime I enter windows it BOSD.
So... I've decided to leave it stock, as it it s running most reliably and passing on memtest86+.. -
Hmm I flashed the modded BIOS on my P150EM and I don't see the Fine Tuning menu.
-
Only the W-Series mods add the new menu. The P-Series mods tweaks are all under the hood and fixed, nothing for you to do except flashing.
-
Oh I see. Sorry for the confusion. Silly me.
-
Hello Prema! I'm a real noob at flashing BIOS and spent the whole night searching for the BIOS I need...I couldn't find anything up-to-date
I'm running a TERA MOBILE 1748 Laptop, with a CLEVO W270HU (D02A) motherboard, with AMI 4.6.4. BIOS... I have no plan about flashing and updating BIOS, but I know that this BIOS is a joke.
My question is: Can i update my BIOS with your BIOS mods?
And if I can:Which version shoud I take?
If I can't: Can you tell me what is "my bios", where do I get it? -
I haven't made any mods for those, but this is the latest EC & BIOS update:
(Hit F2 button during boot and see in BIOS setup menu which version BIOS & EC your system uses.
If they are lower than the ones below, then proceed)
- Create a bootable pen-drive
- Put all the extracted files below on it and boot from it (overwrite duplicates)
- Type 'step1' and hit enter (system will shutdown after short flash)
- Boot from it another time and type "update" (system will shutdown again)
DONE, REBOOT & BE HAPPY

Prema, you are awesome! Thank you sooooooo much !
-
Hi prema,
Just to put the issue to bed, did you ever find a way to fix the coil on the w110er or is it something that is only fixed by replacing the machine? (if that would even work.)
Many thanks, -
I always have coil wine, it never affected my performance so I left it alone.
-
It really depends on the current power state and started for most people when Intel reduced the idle clocks on their integrated gpu to 350Mhz...
-
Cheers thanks!

Prema Mod v1.0.3 for Clevo P-EM- / Sager NP9-Series now on the blog:
- Updated Clevo base to v17 (P170EM)
- Legacy RAID oROM downgraded to v11.6.0.1702 (TRIM without WIN7 RAID boot delay bug)
- Added 2T EDITION (Tad slower, but proven more stable with difficult RAM like 2133Mhz & 32GB)
ENJOY!
-
Flashed 1.0.3 for P170EM (Non 2T) and works really NICE!
Thank you very much Prema!! (Being a real fun!!)
New boot logo is awesome (much better than stock boo...hooohhhoh...oooring "Style Note"). Going to test "Longer CPU turbo time" feature tomorrow.. Maybe with some serious GAMING session! And with 400MHz partial overclocking and GHz Edition 7970m (stock 1.05v)
Thanks for your HARD WORK! Donate you for sure.. -
Prema Mod v1.0.4 for Clevo P-EM- / Sager NP9-Series now on the blog:
- Legacy & UEFI Sata/Raid ROM updated to v12.6.0.1867 (LATEST, TRIM & NO BOOT DELAY)
- Fixed Full Fan bug for P151EM > USE FN+1 (this time for real)
ENJOY YOUR WEEKEND!
-
I flashed both 1.0.3 and 1.0.4 and the boot delay was still there. I just dont know where the problem is
I dont have enough time to reinstall my whole system now, but planing on buying W8 hopefully within month, and starting from scratch and i can only hope that then everything will be ok. Apart from boot delay, your bios is great ;-) -
It's very hard to track as it works for the ones that helped me testing:

hey there prema, would us w-series users benefit from an updated oROM to version 12.6 v12.6.0.1867 or? and atm i have version 12.5.0.166 of RST driver installed. should i downgrade again to version 11.x then cause the oROM is version 11.6?
Thanx for any info you have on this.
Wulff -
It's not as important as for the RAID machines. Driver 12.6.0.1028 seams to be the best right now...
-
thanx prema
-
Any new ME drivers? Thanks prema
-
Latest ME driver is 9.0.2.1345, I haven't tried it...if you do let us know how it goes...
-
Windows ME driver update says not compatible?
