Has anyone ran into this problem: I hit F2 upon reboot but the laptop constantly goes boots into windows. Is there another way to access BIOS on my 1710?

Surprise! There is one reversed. Remove all screws, then use a small punch to pop off the keyboard in the hole that has the pop keyboard icon. There's one screw that's lower right side, in the kb tray. Once removed, the back comes off easily.

Needless to say, I left that one out. :)

Nice, that’s what I wanted to hear. Basically this model has better cooling.

Did you check temps before undervolting?

yeah in IXTU I stressed tested the cpu before and after undervolting. I don't remember the exact temps but I remember looking at the temperature graph and noticing a minimum 5C decrease at -.125 and thinking that was pretty cool. I didn't check temps while gaming before I undervolted but I have afterwards with HWmonitor and just at an experiential level it feels less hot while gaming on my lap. Sorry I can't report that I was more scientific about it :p

Does anyone know that if the panel Chi Mei N173HHE-G32 from MSI GT73vr will work in this PA71HS? The GT73vr has G-Sync so I guess it'll work just fine in our PA71HS. I've heard that the PA71HS in Romania is actually shipped with this panel:
If it worked that'd be awesome since that panel is 120 hz and 100% sRGB!

I watched some of B0b’s videos on undervolting and temp management. Based on them and your advice I made myself a very short todo list for when I finally boot this thing up.

    Download IXTU
    Undervolt CPU -.125
    Set GPU to discrete
Cap FPS at 60 where possible
    Adjust fan speeds if necessary

The goal is longevity by keeping temps low without compromising performance. From what I’ve read on the 1510, that should be easily achievable with these steps.

I’m new to laptop gaming so let me know if I got any of this wrong. :D

Anyone see any 1710 rashes entering Standby mode ?

I'm getting some crashes and automatic reboots when the computer enters standby mode.
Sometimes (but not always) the event log gets filled with thousands of nvlddmkm errors (see below).

The crash doesn't happen all the time. Sometimes it's a day or two without seeing it.

Then, there's usual "the previous shutdown was unexpected" in the event log.

I'm running MSHybrid mode (haven't tried discrete).

I had upgraded the video driver to the latest (388.31) and also tried 388.13 and 387.92 (installed by windows). These both still crashed.

I'm now back to 382.05 (from Power Spec). I'll have to give this one some time.

The computer is stable while I'm actively using it, so if it's a hardware problem it's a strange one. I also tried to stress it with a Sandra Lite benchmark, which completed w/o a crash (though it did get a bit warm).

Additionally, I ran memtest86 for a few hours with no errors detected.

I'm about 3 weeks into the purchase. I don't know if I can still do an exchange at Microcenter. I might already be SOL since the return period is 15 days (wow that seems short).

Try dedicated and try updating the GPU drivers.

    (re: video related sleep crash)

Thanks, switching over to dedicated is on my list of things to try.
Is that how most people are running ?

Right now I'm still trying MSHybrid with the "as delivered" video driver. I like the power savings, but don't like like having to run an older driver. I'll see how this does for the next day or two.

Remember to switch back to Optimus (MSHybrid) when you're on battery since that'll eat less power than the GTX 1070 in Discrete

Well, I'm on the fence. I don't need a 17" because of portability...but I want Thunderbolt badly. And the 100hz monitor OC is enticing with G-Sync.

Alienware 15 R3 with 1070 with the same specs as the 1510 only with Thunderbolt is pretty much exactly the same price as the 1710, but I have to drive 2 hours to Microcenter to get it. I can also get the Alienware 17 R3 with 1070 for $170 more than the PowerSpec.

Anyone have any reasonable thought to talk me into the 1710 over the Alienware aside from the screen size?

It was more to test how it reacts so we can narrow down the cause rather than a permanent solution going to dedicated only mode.

I would also run the Intel updater, and update your Intel components. I know the Intel Video driver was one of them updated on my system, and in Hybrid mode, the Intel does all the driving, so to speak. :) Also, if you plan to update both in the future, always do the NVIDIA one first, then the Intel.

I've finally gotten the chance to open my 1510, but I'm still debating on getting the 1710. So far, the laptop seems to run well. I haven't been able to run anything heavy on it. Right now, it doesn't get hot and the fans are very quiet.

The speakers seem pretty good to me! They were quite loud (thanks to the volume being at 100.) It was nice to see that PowerSpec did a clean install of Windows 10. Also, it does have the Clevo Center installed on it. (Check the icons under the right side of the taskbar.) I noticed it has GPU Overclock, too. (Not exactly sure how to use it.)

I checked the keyboard backlights, headphone jack, speakers, and one of the USB ports. All seem good. (I could only do sound tests from Youtube... I'm not sure where I can find free sound tests to download safely.) I checked the camera, as well; it's alright. I'm going to test the mic on the laptop and test a connected mic. I had no problems adding a wireless printer, by the way.

Oh, the laptop comes with trial antivirus from Micro Center. You just have to sign up for it. It lasts for 3 months.

    What else should I check?

I know I need to have help removing the telemetry junk, etc. from Windows 10, and I need to undervolt. I'm trying to check that all of the ports work, but I don't have cords for everything. :/ FYI, I haven't installed any games or transferred any of my files over. I want to make sure I finish doing everything necessary before actually using the laptop.

What is CPU Memory OC? How do I change the fan speed? According to GPU Overclock, my current temp is at 34*C. [It just changed to 42*C. (I'm not doing anything...reading the manual...)]

Thanks for your help everyone! :)

@BrinNutz I had to drive 3 hours to my nearest Micro Center. I reserved the 1510; it was still cheaper with the gas to the store and tolls than purchasing a similar laptop online. I looked at both the 1510 and 1710 in person. I didn't feel any heat over the WASD keys on the 1710...BUT it was just running idle. I did lift up each model to feel the weight. To be honest, both felt about the same. The 1710 is noticeably thinner, but the weight seemed to be more centered on the back (hinge side.) I'm used to working on a small screen, so both screens seem really big to me.

I keep debating about switching to the 1710 (due to Thunderbolt), but I keep thinking, "Am I really going to use it that often?" I'm probably going to want to update my laptop in a few years, so I might be better off putting the extra money towards something else. o_O Not to mention, there are quite a few reviews complaining about heat issues with the 1710. One thing that I really wanted with my new laptop was good cooling. I had a laptop cooler with my other laptop, but it still got really hot. I chose the 1510 for portability, too. I worry that the 17" is going to be difficult for travel.

It looks like the Alienware weighs roughly 7.5 lbs versus the 1710 which is 6.7 lbs, in case you didn't notice. Maybe, that will help you decide. I'm going to look around for more reviews to help me decide; I have until Sunday to return the laptop.

Hey can anyone please help me how to remove the lid? I've removed 13 screws, only be able to remove the top part where the fan exhausts are located, the bottom part where the speakers located just don't come off no matter how hard I try to lift it up...

Try wiggling it side to side but force should not be required.

What side should I wiggle? Can you please be more specific?
I go as gently as possible but it won't come off so I tried put a little more force and actually bent the chasis where the LED indicators are located.
Am I missing any screws? Is 13 screw the exact number of them to be removed?

EDIT: I'm able to lift up the bottom part now. But as I try to lift up the whole lid I feel like something is in the middle holding it back.
Maybe there's still a few more screws underneath the keyboard?

If you read what I was babbling about earlier, you would know I found that 1 screw is reversed, and lies under the keyboard. You should see an icon with the keyboard coming up. Use a tool to push up the keyboard through that hole. Screw is on the lower right side under the keyboard, and it doesn't need to be put back. ;)

They're ok, but still anemic for speakers. I suggest using headphones, IEMs, or some external powered speakers. I have a Sony SRS-X7 for the desk, and a Bem Cube for portable external listening.

Omg yes!! I actually tried prying the keyboard up right after I edited that comment. I've probably read through your comment therefore the idea of a reversed screw popped into my head :D.
Almost broke the lid trying to lift it up with the unscrewed screw...

For those who wonder, here's the inside.
Fully loaded with Samsung 960 EVO NVMe SSD and a pair of Gskill 16GB ram module. For a very very good price!

@Chastity I expected them to be awful based on some reviews. :p I need to get newer, better headphones. I'm trying to find some for around $15 to $20. (I'm poor after buying this laptop. :vbfrown:)

@Tuan Hoang Thanks! I wanted to open mine up, but worried about voiding my warranty. :) I didn't remember from reviews, but there is only one 2.5" slot, right? What's the circular speaker thing on the top, right corner?

    1) See if you can find a pair of Skullcandy Titans IEMs. Great sound for the price.

    2) The round thing is a speaker. The subwoofer to be precise. :) Also yes, there's only 1 HDD bay. I've already added a 2nd 960 EVO 500GB M.2 to the 2nd M.2 slot. FYI, it runs at Gen3 x2, not x4.

@Chastity Thanks for the suggestion! :) I thought it might be the subwoofer but wasn't quite sure. I didn't even know that it came with one. :D

Oh, I forgot to ask...do these laptops have Prema BIOS? I read elsewhere (I don't remember exactly where...) someone saying these have Prema BIOS. :/

Well, I picked up the 1710 today and damn is it big. First 17"er. Idk if I'll use thunderbolt but damnit if this isn't a nice laptop. Though it is picky on temps. First go on PUBG GPU temps were hitting 92 until I cranked the AC down in my hotel.

I love it so far, haven't gotten to test everything yet nor read the manual.

How do you guys feel about this laptop? On one hand its great specs for the price. On the other, CPU reaches 96C and GPU reaches 76C on demanding games.Under clocking seem to be a temporary solution but it goes away as soon as you restart?

Hi people. So I've been having some rare but annoying BSODs in the course of gaming on my 1510. Specifically the error is driver_IRQL_not_less_or_equal (SynTP.sys). After some research, this seems to be a problem specifically with Clevo laptops which these two Powerspec models are. I haven't done any fixes yet but the most pertinent info can be found in the two threads below:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/synaptics-causes-bsod-on-p650se.770938/
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/driver_irql_not_less_or_equal-syntp-sys-problem.799441/

tl:dr It seems to be an issue with Clevo Control Center, specifically the hotkey driver filter or some such, which interferes with the touchpad driver. Some people completely uninstalled CCC and reported no BSODs but then that results in unwanted side effects like audio jack not working.

I'm gonna try out some fixes and report back, but I figure if I'm experiencing this issue some of you guys might be as well....

I had some oddball stuff with Control Center when I first used it, as some features were missing. (Like toggle Hybrid/Discrete) I uninstalled it and installed the version from PowerSpec's site. (psdriver_16e.exe) Been fine since. Sager also has a Control Center download for the same model, but I am unsure if they are the same version. You could experiment with either or both.

Anyone else experiencing low speed reads/writes with the 1TB HDD? I'm getting 87-97 MB/s with sequential reads/writes.

Wow your GPU temp playing PUBG is so high. Mine 1710 reaches its maximum around 80-ish when playing games. I tried removing the keyboard and discover that it has fan intakes at the top too, so that reduces the temps further down to 70-75°C.
However I once played PUBG and cranked all graphics to maximum, average around 50-60fps  (nice optimization there). Then after a few minutes the laptop shut down and restart . Didn't really know if high temps were the cause because I didn't check with any monitoring apps.

Same here. The version that came with it was v5.0001.1.46. It didn't have the discrete/ms hybrid option (you can still change in bios no prob) but had SoundBlaster ON/OFF toggle, I uninstalled it and installed with Obsidian tool, still the same version, but now that SoundBlaster disappeared and replaced by discrete/ms hybrid option.
Uninstalled again then installed with the one on Clevo website, still the SAME version ( v5.0001.1.46). Same results as installing with Obsidian tool.

I guess there's a config in .ini file that you can change to make it show up however you want...

I was hoping the 1710 would drop Black Friday or Cyber Monday. Oh, well, I missed out.

Anyone try the Witcher 3 on the 1510? How’d it perform?

Just loaded it up and played 3 hours (just starting out). Everything seems good. Runs at solid 60fps on ultra everything. CPU temp peaked at 82C and GPU at 77C.

I like those numbers. Ecspecially the temps! That’s gonna be top of my list to play. Never got to appreciate it’s full glory on my PS4.

I saw a mention of another members space bar led not working. Mine is doing the same.

Looks like a 3hr journey to microcenter is in my near future.

    Yeah it was alarming.

I may have to return it. Stuck pixel, temp issues, space bar led stopped working.

Mine's not working either. Not sure whether it has ever worked really, but can't say that it bothers me. Keyboard lighting is literally the last thing on my list... So you drove for 6 hours there and back just for this laptop? Woah. I only drove for 2 hours and it felt long.

Well, I was up there for duty anyways...but to return would be, almost 3 hrs one way.

My gpu Temps are out of control though at stock settings.

Over 92C on the 1070 on playing PUBG 2 hrs after firing it up.
