What's your max temp? My max temp when removing the keyboard was 75. Do you use a notebook cooler to elevate underside?

I hit 80C on gpu occasionally. Every station has their Temps set differently though.Last edited: Dec 11, 2017 -
@BrinNutz @lpgmdud Thanks! I got it to install. It fixed the Discrete vs MSHybrid issue. I just used Eluktronic's link...it was the same file when I compared them. I can't get Clevo's links to work for some reason. :/ I think I'm going to go ahead and install the other drivers on PowerSpec's website and make sure everything is up-to-date.
Adding to the conversation above... I live in a cooler climate and my house is a bit drafty, so I may have cooler temps due to that. :/ I'm concerned how my temps will fair in the summer months. I have a laptop cooler, but I'm not using it right now. (It's also dying...I think. I have a big, fuzzy dust ball in one fan that I can't figure out how to clean out.)Last edited: Dec 11, 2017 -
Weird it didn't work for you. Didn't think of other resellers.Last edited: Dec 11, 2017 -

I'm in Thailand. Outside temps are around 30C on a cool day, and I rarely use aircon, sticking with fans. My temps when playing the new Wolfenstein on max settings are averaging 65C on the GPU (with spikes up to 75C max) and 75C on the undervolted CPU (with spikes up to 85C max). I consider that fantastic
-
Right now I'm at 85C on GPU and 80C on CPU playing PUBG. Elevated rear and all.
-
Does anyone have some good hires pics of the 1710's motherboard? I'd like to find out what DAC the audio system is using.
-
Anyone got a good backpack for these with protection? I've been looking at reviews but want to make sure it's good for books, pc, accessories, cables, etc.
-
During 3DMark test, my core clock never went above 1442mhz and temps were steady at 60C. Weird?
Score was 4812 in Time Spy running old drivers from May 2017. -
-
And, now ever since updating the drivers to what's current, 3DMark will not work. Tries to load but fails to go full screen and shuts down, resulting in a score of 0. -

Well something like the Everki titan could fit 5 but the belkin slim bag works nicely if those books are not huge.
-
Ok, so I got a bluescreen with reference_by_pointer as the code, anyone run into this ?
Undervolted by -1.25, was running at like 72c playing Guild Wars so not a thermal problem -
I've eyeballed a lot online. Lenovo Legion (that doesn't look adult-ish), Samsonite Tectonic 2 Large, High Sierra Access, Solo Altitude 17.3, Solo Rival 17.3, Swiss Gear 5977, and some others. Maybe even one with the shoe compartment as I'll need a spot for shoes for work.
Likely isn't stable.Last edited: Dec 13, 2017 -

3DMark will work if you set the resolution back to native 75Hz lol. Had that same problem then figured out it was the custom resolution. -
-
So my GPU speeds fluctuate like @Tuan Hoang 's do. I get capped at 1468mhz and then sometimes it lets me hit like 1887mhz. I don't understand the rhyme or reasoning yet. I'm guessing something to do with temps.

Look at the monitoring tab in GPU-Z and look at the throttle reason for some guidance.
BrinNutz likes this. -
Mostly PerfCapReason #16, a lot of 1's, and a single and lonely 4 is what i got during a 3dMark run. -
Result? Nothing changed. Still goes up to 1800 ish then lower back down and cap at 1468Mhz. Perfcap reason says Idle, which is equivalent to "16" in logs.
However during the time it's still 1800 ish, perfcap reason is either Pwr or vRel/vOp something like that. Then after going down it's just Idle all the way. -
https://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/gpu-z-perfcap-log-number-meanings.202433/ -
I don't believe it's thermal since Max temps never exceeded 80°C, and I don't see any Thermal reason under Perfcap reason.
Trust me I had a Gigabyte p35x with a 1070 also, during game as soon as it reached 90°, it immediately throttled under its base clock, 900Mhz ish lol -

Hey guys, long time lurker, recently purchased the 1710 and its been great so far. I wanted to look at doing a repaste, is there a step by step guide with pics you guys can recommend for opening up this to get access to the heatsinks and get the work done? Thanks in advance.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Nothing has been produced for it so far that I have seen.
-
Buying this laptop today. I was wondering how you guys were checking MHz while gaming since many of you seem to have a problem of being capped at 1400?
Also I'm looking at the 15" version but it seems only the 17" can overclock to 75+ hz? -
Use GPU-Z to find that. Took me a couple minutes to find out how but it's self explanatory. -

It's good for looking at average frequency over a period of time too. Click the headings on the left of the charts to change from min/max/average.

After unboxing the 1510 I immediately downloaded PUBG and ARK to see what temperatures it would hit out of the box. PUBG hit 91 degrees celcius but mainly floated in the mid 80s. ARK was always in the low-mid 80s. That seemed really high so I tried downloading throttlestop and undervolting to -.125 like someone mentioned here, the computer crashed a minute later. I guess I shouldn't have started so high on the undervolt? I'm trying -.102.5 now and seeing how that fares. Someone mentioned using the "control center utility" and activating "power saving mode under power consumption," but I have no idea what app he is referring to. Can someone explain? Any other ideas?
-

Thanks for the fast response. -102.5 worked for the undervolt. PUBG temperature lowered from ~90 to ~85 but that's still very high. I'm going to try activating power saving mode and I'll let you know how that goes.
PRO TIP: When I went to microcenter to buy the laptop their price was $1299. I asked for $50 off since I always like to negotiate and micro center is usually pretty good about knocking a few bucks off. The employee told me to say "I was here when the price was 1249 but the laptop was out of stock at that time" and the manager approved me for the $50 discount. Got this beast at a great price now I just need to lower the temps a bit!
I switched the power plan to power saver but fps dropped below 20. I tried the balanced power plan after and on medium graphics settings on pubg and got 80-110 FPS at 72-78 Celsius. Still tweaking and changing things so ill keep you guys updated.
On balanced power plan high graphics on pubg I get 50-60 FPS at 78-80 Celcius. I checked and confirmed that GSYNC is on and running when I play. When I went into the bios it said I was on discrete but I never changed it, weird. I only changed it in the MShybrid app but the weird thing is every time I restart the computer and check the control center app it says I'm on MSHybrid not discrete (the wrong one) so I'm not sure which is actually true.Last edited: Dec 19, 2017 -
I've found the default install of the CCC to be flaky at best. D/L the app and uninstall/reinstall it. Also, I find a laptop cooler with good static air pressure works very well with my 1710. Drops 10C

Update! (end of day 1 with the laptop)
A very nice guy (I won't name him without permission) hopped on teamviewer to help me out. He noticed that my SSD was nearly full (yes I got the laptop today and downloaded a few big games all on my SSD) so he took care of that first. He said not to max out your ssd and to leave 15-20%+ free so you don't have any problems.
Next, and yes I feel stupid, I didn't have the fan at max. Fn+1 is the hotkey to max your fans which quickly and easily fixes that and dropped the computer a few degrees. You can also access that through control center (Fn+esc) which also allows you to change the colors of the keyboard and a bunch of other things. One thing to note is that even though when I opened my BIOS to check that the comp was running 'discrete' not 'MSHybrid' the control center still shows im running MShybrid. I know that I am running discrete though because GSync works and when I open up the bios it shows discrete.
By the way for anyone that just got the laptop go into your bios (f2 while starting up) and then go to the advanced tab, advanced chipset control, and there you can change it to discrete. Mine already was discrete, making me think it's possible to change permanently directly from the control center but I had to check anyway since the control center always thinks I'm on the wrong wrong. At least you only need to do this once.
By going to your desktop, right click -> Nvidia control panel, go to "set up gsync," enable, and enable for both windowed and full screen mode. At the top click display and click G-Sync indicator, then go into a game and see if it says G-Sync in an overlay in the top left. If it's there you are good and you can disable the indicator.
One thing to note is that I have noticed performance changes when G-Sync is active or not. It seems like the computer runs slightly better with it off (higher MHz?) but I'm not a pro and I haven't had the time to test it yet so this is on my to-do list for tomorrow.
Today I also downloaded throttlestop, undervolted to -.125 which caused a crash but -.105 worked and is working well. I'll fiddle around with it some more tomorrow and see just how high I can go. If you're trying to do this check out a youtube video, which will help you not only set it up using throttlestop or a different program but also have throttlestop start up when your computer starts, also minimized, so it's always up whether you realize it or not. I've also been using throttlestop to check CPU temps while gaming so i can compare temps, FPS, and my graphics settings.
If you've just bought a laptop check out Ninite which is a website that lets you download a bunch of useful programs all at once instead of going to each of their sites separately and downloading them.
Tomorrow I will be purchasing a (better) laptop cooler since mine is very cheap. I am also looking into having the thermal paste replaced on my laptop to see if I can get it to go down a few more degrees. I don't feel comfortable opening it myself, but if someone on Long Island (new york) could help me out I'll surely make it worth your time
A couple things I dislike about the laptop so far
- you have to run your finger over the fingerprint scanner. I much prefer the kind where you just press it. Not a big deal but sometimes it takes a few tries I don't know if i need to re-enter my fingerprint because I didn't get a good scan or if the technology just isn't as good.
- The charger is kind of short. I wish the power brick was further back (closer to the outlet) so there's more wire closer to me (if that makes sense). If I'm sitting on my bed watching netflix I have to have the power-brick up on the bed with me or it doesn't reach lol.
- The audio isn't that loud. Maybe it's just because I had dolby surround sound on my last laptop but this one isn't nearly as loud.
- For some reason my G102? mouse doesn't work with this laptop. Every other thing I've tested works but for some reason the mouse doesn't. I also tested the mouse on other computers so it works. I'll keep testing the USB ports with as many things as I can find to ensure they aren't broken but whatever I bought a new gaming mouse on amazon and paid for 1 day shipping.
That's about it, and you can tell they aren't major issues, i'm just being nitpicky otherwise if I hated it that much I'd return it haha. Hopefully this little write-up can save you guys some time and trouble when you first pick up this beast
A couple questions:
- Can I overclock my display to get higher than 60 FPS on the 1510? or does that only work on the 1710?
- Are there any laptop coolers you guys recommend? I don't mind buying on ebay. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Power saver limits the CPU speed to 800Mhz so not really meant for harder tasks
-
I have plenty of IC DIamond 7 on hand, plus a Cooler Master SP-19 cooler you can test your system with.
And no, the 1510's panel is limited to 60Hz.
You can also have the techs at MicroCenter repaste it for you too, for a fee. -
I'm having a lot of trouble recording desktop audio with OBS or Audacity on the Powerspec 1510. Is there a way to get Stereo Mix to not be dependent on the volume I'm listening at? My old laptop recorded desktop audio at its original/actual volume rather than the speaker output volume and didn't even have a Stereo Mix option. This thing is a great computer so far aside from this.
(some sentences removed because I clearly am not capable of differentiating sound software from hardware)
I've tried drivers from Powerspec and am currently using Clevo's latest from the driver page here called "Audio_0824 (CLEVO).zip". Perhaps I may have better luck with older drivers? I'm really frustrated after spending hours trying to figure this out.
My old Windows 7 laptop had Realtek HD audio drivers with JBL speakers, so I thought it'd be simple when this laptop used Realtek HD audio as well. Sad how that turned out. That laptop, a Dell XPS L502x, had better audio in general.Last edited: Dec 20, 2017 -
1) Stereo Mix is similar to the old "What You Hear" option. I would hit the properties and make sure you've disabled any effects on it.
2) Bass and Treble are on the Equalizer page. I assume you know what a 10-band Parametric Equalizer is, and how to use one. -
Effects are off on Stereo Mix. I'll figure it out eventually (I hope).
Edit: I took some screenshots. Please tell me I'm missing something obvious and it's not an inherent hardware problem. I appreciate the helpful answers people have been giving in this thread.
Image #1:Image #2:
Image #3:
The recorded audio on both laptops matches whatever is displayed by the bar in these gifs. Image #1 is my old windows 7 laptop, Images #2 and #3 are the Powerspec 1510 laptop. Image #1 shows the internal recording volume seems to be independent of how loud it is set to play through the speakers, regardless of if it's muted. Images #2 and #3 show that the recording volume is constrained by the output volume and mute. I don't know if this is a Windows 10 thing, or a drivers thing, or a hardware thing. Any ideas?Last edited: Dec 20, 2017 -
In four days I’ll finally be enjoying the 1510. In preparation I bought a steel series sensei 310 and a laptop cooler. Also planning on getting Eset. Any other accessorie recommendations?
Also plan on undervolting. What number should I start with?
@Reckiee do you cap the frame rate at 60? I think that would help with thermals. -
What kind of laptop cooler you looking at? -
Reverting to Microsoft's generic "High Definition Audio Device" drivers makes the recording behave normally.
That said, it leaves me with a dead headphone jack, duplicate devices, and unable to adjust bass/treble/equalizer/etc, which make this solution borderline unusable. I think I'll give a driver cleaner a try and reinstall realtek HD. -
Wanted to share the love that Station-Drivers posted an update for the Creative Connect 2 for peeps with SoundBlasterX ProGaming 720 systems (Like our 1710's) v.2.1.6.0.
