We would be interested to know the situations where it tripped. What were you overclocking and how high. It would be interesting to see if we can duplicate your experiences.

Let me put this straight unless you are running physx and oc your unit i think you should be fine. I purchased mine to be faster than alienware and its not the reason for my return. I love tech and want the fastest so I oc to the max.
The alienware does not run physx so i cannot compare on that level.
I am a nvidia fan boy i prefer nvidia to ati. -
The best solution for now is to wait !
Waiting provides:
1)470m availability in the x7200
2)Resolved issue with the psu (hopefully by the time 470m becomes available)
3)3rd gen intel ssds
So i will wait some more. No harm done.
If i am going to spend that much money, i have to make sure i get something that works.
And i really really want a desktop cpu. And since d900f is phased out, all i can do is wait. -

Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
I will wait especially since you post twice

I decided to wait in August
Not really... I just don't have money. -

Could you provide some details please?
What was your OC?
What tasks were you doing to trip the PSU?
This type of info will help us end users and Clevo. Thanks.
-
Wasn't able to see diakyu's post..
Yeah, would like to see what trips the Adapter too, really hope they give a fix to X7200/NP7280's adapter.
pray hard... -

How much bigger than the D901C psu is the x7200 psu?
GanGstaOne has showed off a mil spec'ed psu (not for sale) some time ago:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/sager-clevo/348718-400w-power-supply-clevo-d901c.html
Actually I am more curious about comparing the x7200 psu size with the one posted in the above thread:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/att...34-400w-power-supply-clevo-d901c-dsc00157.jpg -
he said it was limited to military. there are other places to get custom psu's.
-
I wont spend money on 980x and 480m sli. My aim is towards a lower speced cfg.
950 + 460m or 470m sli.
Does this mean i will be 101% safe with the 300w psu ?
A xeon [email protected] would be sweet as that is 95w TDP part, but they are very expensive. -
so basically my specs = i950 + dual slia 480mgtx + one hard drive+ max settings crysis 1 or 2=safe? am i right? -
-
6x3.33Ghz vs 4x2.80Ghz might look like like significant difference in power usage - in fact its less than 10%. Maybe you can find google at wiki but I have no idea where you got that impression of me working for Eurocom. I had purchased the system from them yes but I would not call it employmentI got work contacts in Canada but this is it
http://i.neoseeker.com/a/intel_core_i7_980x/power.png -
It looks like the main reason for PSU tripping stems from the fact that when stressed with Prime or similar applications, desktop i7's easily hit far beyond the 130W.
Bottom line, there are no miracles here, - we need a 400W PSU. -
The real problem is that we have people that don't really know about this issue going everywhere and saying "this thing fails don't buy it".
Of course it's a big problem, but it's far from a fail. -
-
Sorry for posting twice, hehe, that was a mistake, but in my opinion waiting is not.
If it werent for the power source thingy (im waiting maybe clevo upgrade the unit with a better psu) i would order now from my sn de since they are the only ones besides eurocom that offer 460m sli.
Does anyone know if they actualy have the 460ms ?
However, i have something i thought about.
How about heavy testing the 980x+sli with turbo mode turned off. THat limits the freq at the stock 3.33ghz. I know noone wants that, but im just curious if it trips the psu at bone stock 3.33ghz. -
-
come on, now it left with 470

Still debating between 2 new lappys. My poor arima whitebook is about dead.
X7200 looks awesome but the PSU issues scares me. I dread sinking any money into a RMA nightmare. And I cant be without a laptop for months on end getting repaired. But my accountant wants me to buy one before the end of the year so I can claim this on my company taxes. So I'm down to a choice wait till the end of november and see if ati will announce the 6XXX coming out soon or just break down and get one of the two I'm looking at.

Pros: LED RGB is suppose to be heavenly from what everyone is saying. Dell On-Site tech support!!!!
Cons: I've had bad mojo with alienware in the past. Only 2 HDD. So I can only stick in 1 hybrid and 1 160g SSD. I'll have to buy the hybrid off newegg since Dell doesn't offer it plus I plan on sticking 8g mem in this but I'm not buying dell's overpriced memory sticks
This is my dilemma, I'm an over the road truck driver I use to my lappy to find loads on the net. Along with it I need it daily to scan documents to send to the payroll company and tax assessment people. But when I have down time I would like to having something that I can play games on like MW2, BF2,WOW, FFXIV, Fallout 3. And I'm a huge steam junkie. Basically as my life goes I'm out on the road for 2 to 3 months at a time. I rarely take time off at home. So this makes doing RMAs a real pain in the rump. I've owned 2 of Clevo's desktop replacement laptop D900's and they were total utter nightmares plus the fact I purchased them from old alienware. So when they broke down and they did alot, it was me on the phone screaming alot. I really don't want that headache again. I'm not an OC'er or a benchmark junkie I just want something that will be extremely stable and dependable.
I know alot of people will say that is impossible in a gaming laptop. but in the last 5 years I purchased 3 laptop from mark at killernotebooks and all 3 were absolutely the best laptops I have ever owned never ever had 1 problem with any of them. I'm sorry I ranted for so long but any input from you guys would be a incredible help. I'm sure I'll get flamed all to hell but I'm kinda clueless what to do at the moment. -

Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
What is the point of all this ? well they just try to sale all those GTX 480M on stock because at soon as they release the GTX 470M and it performs the same or better
there will be no market for the 480's ,
Now they don't need to upgrade the PSU because this machine will run perfect with GTX 460M and you may be able to overclock those to 480 levels with no power issues on the downside there is the people who already buy the SLI 480's and some are fine but some are thinking why i spent this kind of money on something i can't even overclock and like i say some just say i am fine without overclocking because even at stock speeds they never experience nothing like that on a laptop
This machine was not made for SLI GTX 480M in mind and they know that when they develop the PSU and the motherboard and is sad but true. -
470m gtx will be overpriced too... something near 480m for sure.
-
Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
when they release the 480 it was $940 after a month is only $800 that means they not selling much stock http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-2GB-Nvidia-...905?pt=PCC_Video_TV_Cards&hash=item19bd5287a9 -
should i still sticks with GTX480s? -
That is what i aim with the purchase of the x7200 as well. Maximum system stability with zero overclock.
My bet is x7200 in it's current stage is capable of delivering exactly that.
But i'm waiting for 3rd gen intel ssd and maybe 470m or 6870m to see what i'll get.
Basicaly it's betwen the 3 GPUs or 4(if 5870 makes its way on the x7200, btw, why isn't the 5870 available for the x7200 ?) 460m, 470m and 6870 in dual configs. -
470M has just arrived. The 6870M will take a while to reach the market (a few months maybe).
As for the SSD, that's user upgradable, we can change it any time you want. If the 3rd generation is really good, then just sell what you buy now and buy the new ones.
If you are really set on the X7200, then your best option right now is the 460M SLI with the i7 950. The rest.... well you can always upgrade later, including the video cards. -
I just wish nivdia and clevo would stop this little game and just give us 5870's for this laptop. The last clevo I owned with nividia in it was a D900 with a Geforce 6800 GO .... And in 1 year I had it replaced 5 times 3 of those times it took the mobo out with it.... It was one of alienwares Area 51s. I still have nightmare cause of that laptop. Once I sent it in for a mobo and hdd replacement it was in the shop for 4 solid months. I was on the phone weekly screaming at alienware.

, we may well need some more wattage room.
That would be really nice. In fact, it would be even nicer than a new PSU. Unfortunately, all of this is u-topic™
BTW, Cyber-System has been offering X7200 with GTX 460M (also available in SLI) since yesterday (or even the day before that). I still cannot understand why most people here think there are like only 1-2 resellers in EU with good offers...
(Excluding the fact that I am very keen on their non-glare display option, I am in now way affiliated to them)
-
If i get a 80gb now, i will automaticaly need to sell it for half price once the 3rd gen ssds are out. And even so, i don't know who will buy them here in my country...
The best solution is to wait, It can't be long now.
Here is more:
http://www.anandtech.com/Show/Index...intels-3rd-generation-x25m-ssd-specs-revealed
I think they will be the best ssds for the sata II controller. To bad the laptop doesn't have sata III controller otherwise i would have chosen to get the new sandforce 2x00 drives that are launching just now, with read performance in the 500 mb/s range. Unfortunatly these are capped at 275mb/s by the sata II interface.
For the price of a 2nd gen 160gb ssd i will be able to get a 320 gb 3rd gen ssd. That is something well worth waiting.
Another plus, after the price slash of the i7 950 intel delivered in september.
I am aiming to get the best bung for money components, and not the likes of 480m or 980x. I don't have that kind of money, and even if i did, it is still not worth it, in my opinion. -

All Sager resellers have the nVIDIA GeForce GTX 470M w/1.5GB GDDR5 on the Sager NP8690 and Sager NP8760.
-
hahahahahahaha, nowhere in the offer is there a 470m along a 480m as a choosing option.
Where there is a 480m there is no 470m and viceversa.
I'm starting to see the picture the 470m is suppose to deliver.
I wonder who will offer 460m 470m and 480m as gpu option in the x7200.
I sure would like to see the difference between the 470m and 480m. Eurocom excluded, because they seem to be advirtising what they don't have.
For instance here:
http://www.sagernotebook.com/index.php?page=product_customed&model_name=NP8760-S1
the 460m and the 470m are listed as "Back Order! (ETA: End of October, 2010)", so i'm not sure reseller have even the 460m.
Also, there is a 395 USD difference betwen the 460m and 470m, wich will translate to an even bigger number, here in europe. WHat will paying that difference get me ?
If it gets me the bragging rigths of the fastet laptop gpu, but with 5% performance over the number 2, i will settle for number 2, thank you very much.
If there is a bigger difference, it is worth considering, but i just don't know why i have the feeling that won't be the case. -
-
Yeah this is what we need, 600w, 500w minimum, not the 400w everyone wants, that may still not be enough.
A 4ghz OC cpu only stress test with my single 480m gpu uses 345w! Need more power! -
-
We are talking here about ultra high end configs. What i would like to know is if the psu will ever trip with a non overcloked, turbo on, 950cpu and 460m sli ?
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
Neither Sager nor PowerNotebooks.com have had any reports to Support of the AC Adapter tripping.
-
This is not even a question or subject of debate. PSU tripping was confirmed by several users here as well as Notebookcheck and some other reviewers.
Sager and Clevo are well aware of that. The question is - what solution will be provided by Clevo. -
-
What i would like to know is if there is any way the psu can be tripped with a 950 and 460m sli, worst case scenario, multi threaded prime 95, and sli furmark.
-
The 460M has a TDP of 75W, which in SLI gives 50W more headroom than 480M SLI option; but If you overclock then no one can say for sure before some people actually doing it.
-
a lot of the resellers now have added more gpu configurations... this unnerves me..... I really hope they don't drop the 480's or push the 460/70's harder and then come out with a refreshed x7200 with 480's in the future that supports it?
I want to be able to use and most certainly abuse my 480's in sli to the maximum of their abilities..
or maybe their fix is ... a downgrade.. heh!
send us your 480's and we will send you 460's..
