Just adding more RAM on the graphics card doesnt make it 'future proof' !! If so a 7400 with 1 GB RAM would have been enough for all!!

512 Mb on the card is more then enuf for more games out there.. Games that require more for textures later would need more processing power on the GPU part then provided by the 8600M GT so no matter the RAM, 512 or 256Mb or even 1GB all are gonna get obselete at the same time.... :)

Agreed, the thought process with 512 maybe running upcoming dx10 a little faster due to the extra memory makes sense, but the 256 will still be able to run them too. Like Alias said, once the gpu itself isnt enough for a new game, 256 or 512 wont matter.

An example you could use is with the Desktop card the 8800GTS, there are two versions the 640mb and 320mb. Until you start getting into higher resolutions the level of power is really quite close.

You obviously don't know how resolutions work in games.

Well, then do enlighten me, b/c I simply don't get it. And the point I was really trying to get across is that in order to game at 2560x1600, one needs a 30" monitor, and I was honestly wondering how many people own those. But do please answer anyway.

I'd like to know too, what exactly is he saying? What's so special about resolutions, and that one in particular, that he doesn't seem to understand?

Yes, you would need a 30" monitor, but people do own those, and that makes 2560x1600 the highest resolution you can actually play at. That's why reviewers show benchmarks at that res - to show how powerful the card really is.

Also, things don't get smaller as you increase the resolution. Especially in newer games, dynamic resolution assures that the actual size of an object doesn't decrease. There are just more pixels in that same space, which means you get a sharper picture with less jaggies.

I think he feels that 25x16 is so high that the review becomes irrelevant to anyone except the richest gamers in the world.

Well, seriously mate, how many people can really afford something like that? I'm barely paying $1500 for the computer I'll be playing all these games on(whenever, that is, I get it.) But now I do understand why someone would want that, if it is indeed sharper, and, overall, better. So thanks. Do you happen to use a 30" screen?

Precisely. Therefore, how many people are really going to be able to come up with the dough for not only that, but a system to play it with as well? That's...just crazy.

Wait Ghost, where did you see that July 11th Ship date there. I think I see the notebook you're talking about. Lord knows I can recognize that chasis after all this time waiting for this freaking notebook. I'll be honest, I'm getting really tired of waiting and I need this computer before I leave the country next month. I'd be genuinely disappointed if I had to cancel this order because of excessive delays.

Well, that depends a lot on where you are in the pre-order line. Early orders should be shipping sooner than 2 more weeks, but it will probably take most of July to catch up to orders placed today.

"July 6, 2007: Tragedy at computer warehouse -
A lone gunman has allegedly approached the Sager Warehouse in City of Industry, CA. Though no one was hurt, the gunman had managed to break the gas lines in the building and set it on fire. Unfortunately, all orders from this warehouse has been indefintely delayed, at least two months at the least until Sager can get operations running again."
