Very Nice...I hope PowerNotebooks does that too![]()

Well, it isn't PowerNotebooks actually, it is dependant on Sager mostly. They told me late this afternoon that they were ready to ship today, but had a minor QC issue that needs to be fixed, so it is now delayed until tomorrow assuming that get that issue resolved.
Now, please keep in mind that they can't ship all pre-orders the same day, so if you want to know when yours is scheduled to ship I would recommend that you email your Sales Advisor for confirmation. -
The Best thing about this whole thing is, EVERYTHING I have ordered online for my 5760 just arrived this week!
The last shipment was actually delivered today
So now I can try to get my very 1st Wireless Home Network setup when I get home from work.
The only thing I am actually waiting on now is my TV-Tuner bundle and 320gb External HDD so I can trun my Home Desktop to a HTPC.
And they are due to be here next week.
So next week I have alot of toys to play around with -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
You might want to consider asking DL to upgrade your shipping to Saturday Delivery since you are already upgrading to Next Day shipping. The premium for Saturday Delivery is pretty small, and then you would have the weekend to get it all set up!
OORAH! -
Very cool, Kilim...I am as excited as you are, waiting reply to hopefully the 'great news' of an earlier than expected ship date
So which external HDD did you get? I am thinking of getting one as well, or at minimum an enclosure that can house a 3.5" (usually cheaper) HD. I don't know much about this but an enclosure that allows for a HD to become external sounds like a wonderful idea...And you can always put whatever HD you are to get back in a Desktop if needed, or swap in it and out etc.
I think I shall wait to order an external LCD till after I get my laptop. In addition I will wait before considering getting a backpack (to see if i need one) or if the blacknight or even another bag i already own is sufficient. Also I will see if it gets hot enough to justify getting Lap2Cool device, among other things.
I need to call up my Verizon Online DSL and see about getting a 2wire home portal and/HPNA device since we have 3mb DSL upstairs on our family desktop computer. And since I have moved into the basement apartment a month or so ago, the other DSL Modem I got doesnt work on the same line...thus the 2wire device I have heard allows multiple computers/connections to the internet on any floor of house as long as it has same phone line with the dsl. Saving me the hassle of running wires or attempting wireless over 2 floors (which I would not be worth it). Hopefully I can find a way to get internet on my bad boy laptop, before I go to college.
On a side note tommorow is my highschool graduationIt would sure be sweet if I hear back soon and learn that the laptop would be coming even sooner...This month is going to be great
-
I actually debated that.
But I usually use my weekends as family time.
So more than likely I wouldn't have time with "The Precious..." anyways if it gets delivered on Saturday.
It was very tempting though lol.
Besides I spend most of my PC and PC Gaming time when I am at work due to wife/3yr old son agro at home.
So Monday would be perfect.
UPS Guy has been delivering on or before 1-2PM EST to my apartment his last few deliveries.
(My wife is actually irked at the amount of deliveries teh UPS guy has done pass couple of weeks.)
There is not many reviews I saw about it but the few reviews I saw was good.
and the ONLY con I have found is the complaint about its Price!
When you check it out at Fry's you will see that it is excellently priced.
I also agree on waiting on those items as well.
I did get the LapCool4 anyways so I can review it with the 5760.
I will try to post my review ASAP.
I may post an initial review of what I think the 5760 is after a week with benchmarks and stuff and add in my experiences with it as time goes.
Also, I am not sure on the network thing as I am just going to setup my 1st Home Network later on tonite when I get home from work.
AND a BIG GRATS for Graduation tomorrow!!!
Thats a great 1st step in life!
I got kicked out 2x in my HS for only going to class during test times ... but I pass 'em each time.
Now I wish I wasn't such a smartass lol.
Oh well, good thing I joined the USMC to get my ass back in gear.
I will have my graduation from my ADN Nursing school so I can be a registered nurse next year
From Killing to Healing lol. -
My 5760 (Sager NP5760 - V) from DiscountLaptops has already SHIPPED!!
Just received the email form them with the UPS Tracking Number. It shipped last night (6/1/06) and is scheduled to arrive here (Maryland) on 6/7/06!!
The original ship date was 6/8/06.
This works out perfect. This will be my son's HS Graduation present. He graduated yesterday and is going to Ocean City, MD with his friends, for a week. He will be returning 6/10/06 and his graduation party is 6/11/06. If the Sager arrives on time, I can give it to him at his party. (Assuming he is not in jail....)
Perfect!! -
-
I got 1 year left in my ADN Nursing Program also, so Hopefully next Summer I will be a registered Man-Nurse
Mine is not due to be shipped until today and I haven't received a confirmation that it was shipped yet
I did contact DL for an Upgrade from Standard Ground to next Day Delivry so I can get it by Monday, hopefully before work so I can take it with me and ... play with it.
Also a Note on the Acomdata External HDD I bought.
Its kinda heavy.
I think this will be stuck on my desktop as data storage.
I think I may hold off on an external HDD for my laptop, 100gb is alot.
Once it gets m,ore filled up, I may debate again to get either a 2.5" or a 3.5" external HDD.
Leaning more towards an external notbook HDD or anything that is very light for portablity. -
I am in the same boat as far as time goes. When I come home in the evenings it is 100% family time. My wife deserves a break. No matter how much I would like to sit down and veg out on the computer I really need to give my time to my sons. I have three sons aged 1,3, and 5 so they are begging for attention when I come home. Weekends are the same. So when it comes to playing games on the computer -- thats always after the boys are asleep and my wife and I have had our "couch time". -

From Powernotebooks.com. Ordered before 5/31 so got $127.00 off price! -
I got "The Precious..." in the mail just 5 minutes ago!
Will post more once I take pictures and after I do some tests and benchmarks -
Awsome man! I should have upgraded shipping perhaps...since mine will likely come on friday, and family will have to bring it in as I am leaving for college orientation this upcoming weekend.
Congrats on "The Landing" of the Sager! Be sure to keep us updated!!! Make us drool... -
I just took pictures of the box and while I am unpacking it for the review I will be making.
I am actually just installing Windows XP MCE 2005 w/ UR2 on it.
Surprised that it came formated in FAT32, but no hassle as I will have to format it to NTFS when doing a fresh XP MCE install.
I already tested it on my Kensington Contour backpack.
I must say, it is a VERY snug fit.
Kinda like the feeling when I 1st met my wife and ... bah thats another review in itself
I was at 1st worried my Next Day Air Upgrade would not make it as the Order info did not update on the weekend.
So I heard a doorbell at 9:15AM today and I answred it with only my boxers on to great the UPS guy to get my New Sager 5760 on my apartments door lol.
So going back to finsihing thius OS install then putting in the drivers and then putting in upgrades before I start doing my benchmarks.
I have BF2, F.E.A.R. and Oblivion and Star Wars: Empire at War to test for it this week.
Question: Anyone have any ideas if some of the Game benchmark programs I see in soem sites requires you to have the game or you can just use that prog and it has a piece of the game in it to be benchmarked?
I wanna try to do a full benchmark test on this baby so I can see what it compares to others -
Kilim,
Congrats, mine (err, my son's) not scheduled for delivery until Wednesday. now that you have received yours, my wait will seem like two weeks instead of two days. -

Holy time-warp, Batman! I too am anxious for Wednesday to just happen already! To make matters worse, my tracking info for UPS will not update (even though it insists the package is on-time), so I cannot know exactly where my sweet machine be at!! :X If there is/are a god/gods/goddess/goddesses, let them hear our feeble prayers and deliver unto us some sweetace notebooks!...
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
UPS Ground tracking doesn't usually update from the time it leaves until it hits your local hub. It is guaranteed though...so expect it on Wednesday.
-
Well, it looks like I got soem Dead Pixels on my 5760
Located on the middle left edge of my screen.
Looks like 4-5 Dead Pixels, 4 of em stuck in 2 bunches.
It doesn't show dead on the black background but in the other colors using DeadPixelBuddy its noticeable.
Will have to contact Sager to see if they can replace it or what they can do about it.
Sager just actually emailed me saying this:
At least this will be a great way to be able to add their Customer Service in my review. -
Wow the dreaded dead pixels, that is really unfortunate man. I am knocking on wood right now that my Sager will work flawless from the start.
Very cool that you some of you guys already have the laptop! I would love to see some pictures asap! Also glad to hear that backpack works great with it...I will likely be getting that Kensington Contour backpack too which seems to be the best laptop backpack out for the price. -
Charles P. Jefferies Lead Moderator Super Moderator
Sorry to hear about the dead pixels, but the rest of the unit must be great.
http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=2887&review=Dell+XPS+M1710 -
Bummer about the dead pixels. It makes you wonder if the No Dead Pixel warranty was worth it.
Anybody willing to speculate as to how many more dead pixel stories we will see once the majority of the 5760s are delivered? (Very few, I hope)
Other than that, how doth she run, Killim? -
I haven't fully tested "The Precious..." yet.
(I think I will have to have that custom painted on this baby one day lol)
Just finishing installing the drivers just now here at work.
I found thjis awesome Surge Protector a week ago and is what I am using now for teh laptop:
http://www.provantage.com/belkin-f9h220-tvl~7BELZ038.htm
Its cool so far, you can plug in 2 things at once and it also protects your laptop if you use a phone line or ethernet LAN.
After I finish putting in the drivers and stuff, I need to connect to the net again so I can do this 1 test and attach it to my reply email to Sager.
Hopefully they will honor my request for a refund.
To me it looks like 4 Dead Pixels bundled together and 1 dead pixel on its left.
It is located in middle, very left side of screen.
SO now I just finished installing all teh drivers, so I am going to L the attachment image they sent me so I can print screen it and send it to them. -
Congratulations on the arrival of your first lappie Kilim! Judging by your numerous posts in this forum and notebookforums, I know you have been agonizing over the decision and finally the wait to get it in your hands. Sorry to hear about the pixels though...I'm sure it will all work out in the end.
-
Thanks guys
Maybe 1 day I will start a 5760 Fan Club ALso.
The 5760 Keyboard will take me a while to get used to.
Got used to my Logitech G15.
I think when I get home, I will buy a usb hub so I can easily disconnect and reconnect my G15 from my desktop to my lappy lol.
At this time I am in email contact with Tech Support from Sager.
Seems to be the best way to contact them.
They sent me a certain image to put as my desktop background and told to make a picture copy of it.
I think I did it right.
To take a picture of your screen is CTRL+Print Screen right?
Thing is, the Dead Pixels is not really in the way, its in the very middle vertically and on the very left side.
But if they can fix it or replace it, hey why not try right, I only spend a couple grand on it.
Would just suck sending it back for a few days and not having it
Would be like a tease lol.
Other than that, everything is smooth so far.
DLing Kaspersky now and then going to DL some benchmark tools to test this baby this whole week.
Want to post a review ASAP. -
Looking forward to your reviews! 5760 is at the top of my short list for my next lappie!
-
Charles P. Jefferies Lead Moderator Super Moderator
Take your time on the review, no pressure on you at all. -
Yes, yes, no pressure intended by my earlier post.
-
I don't think printscreen is going to work for that sort of thing... Cuz doesn't that just capture what the vid card is putting out?
So won't the screen cap look perfectly fine? because it's the DISPLAY that has the problem... not the vid card. -
Well, I am going to RMA this and have them look at it as per Sager's tech Support's suggestion.
Hopefully I won't be separated from "The Precious..." for too long.
Going to send it Next Day Delivery to UPS tomorrow morning.
And ya, the screencap looks perfect each time.
I tought I was being stupid at 1st.
Somehow I think it may be some dirt or dust within the inside part of teh LCD Screen.
Whatever it is, I just hope they fix it and make it go away.
For soemthing this expensive, I want it to be perfect
They do have that 48hr return Policy:
http://www.sagernotebook.com/pages/warranty.html
But I see it coming back to me Monday.
Oh what a tease to taste perfection -
Yeah that blows that you have to send it back and everything!
If only there was another way, which I don't think there is.
Be sure to upload some images and such tonight if you can before sending it back tommorow. So we can see how it is packaged, or more importantly how it looks right out of the box besides the screen imperfection.
The journey for "Precious" has just begun...return it, we must! (lol just felt like saying that) -
Charles P. Jefferies Lead Moderator Super Moderator
Did you mean you wanted to take a screenshot in a game or of a program? Use Fraps to take screenshots, or if you can, see if there is a built-in hotkey in the game you can use - it'll save them in a .jpg format usually, much better than the bitmap that Fraps uses.
-
No Sager was telling me to get a screen cap of my screen to see the Dead Pixel.
Couldn't figure out a way to do it
So they gave me a RMA # and I am willing to pay a Premium for Overnite Delivery to them so they can repair/replace it and give it to me in 48hrs aftr they get it as stated in their Warranty info.
At this time I DLed a bunch of Benchmark programs and just going to run some test before I send it to them via UPS.
These are what I have done so far:
SuperPi: 02m 10s (2m @ 20 iterations)Not sure if I am doing something wrong.
PCMark05: 4332
I do have Kaspersky Internet Suite v6.0 running and the other basic background progs.
(The ones that came in the driver discs)
I also just finished installing all the latest Windows Update also.
I may have to rerun those benchmarks along with a few others while the other background progs are turned off for a better reading. -
Charles P. Jefferies Lead Moderator Super Moderator
Ah, the dead pixel wouldn't register in the screen capture - you'll have to use a camera to take a picture of your screen.
-
To a few of you that wanted to see how my Kensington Contour backpack looks w/ the 5760 and a quick peak of the 5760, here it is.
Just a quick few shots for the review I will be makign soon.
Guess consider this a teaser as I am gettign teased by having to return "The Precious..." tomorrow for a quick checkup
The Sager 5760 Unwrapped:
Kensington Countor Backpack with 5760:
(I think my cameras flash made the grain of the backpack look weird like that.)
(This review of the Kensington Contour backpack gives it better justice: http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=2425
As you can see, the 5760 fits very snug in the laptop compartment and the top is covered by the backtop top.
The zipper lining is actually in front of the top cover and not above it.
I also think the Nvidia Driver that came with the package is an older driver.
Possibly a reason why my initial benchmark was a lower than expected.
(Also realized that Kaspersky Internet Suite v6.0 slowed it down a bit also.)
So any idea which driver to get for the Nvidia go7900GTX 256mb?
I looked at the Nvidia site and was not sure because I saw drivers for the GeForce and go7800GTX.
Was not sure if I was suppose to wait for the go7900GTX driver for Nvidia or just use the GeForce one.
(I also use XP MCE 2005 so not sure if that will matter)
I also didn't see any of the latest drivers for the 5760 at the Sager site also
So far this is my Nvidia go 7900GTX BIOS Version: 5.71.22.26.FF
This is my current benchmarks with Kaspersky Turned off:
Super Pi: 1m 36s (2m @ 20 iterations)
3DMark05: 7823
3DMark06: wouldn't let me run soemhow, I think its teh driver, not sure.
PCMark05: currently testing
HDTune: Next Test -
I'm not seeing a windows install CD, did you not get it with windows? Good lord I hope there wasn't a separate option for if you want the install CD shipped too. =X
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
Please look again. You will see a green or blue CD that says Sager Recovery Disk.
It is not a restore or image disk, it is a full Recovery disk that has everything on it just as if you bought the Retail version. The only difference is that it is an OEM version. -
Ah, sounds good. I'm not that well versed in the diffrent types, so you'll have to bear with me.
That disk completely reformats the drive and puts everything back the way it was when the computer ready to ship? How complete is it? Do I have to reinstall drivers and stuff?
I can see how having a disk like that would help, so people wouldnt have to repartition the instant-play thingy... -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
It allows you to partition and format the drive, then install Windows w/SP2 (just like a Retail version). Then you have to install the drivers from your drivers CD.
What you are describing is the much hated restore or image disk that puts everything back to the way it was prior to shipment...fully configured and usually with a bunch of "freeware" junk on it, and without the ability to partition and format the way you want. -
Ah, it helps you reformat the drive? Does it automaticly make the partition used for that instant-play function? I heard it takes quite a bit of work to do it manually.
Oh and i wasn't even thinking of infering that you guys put boatware in your software. ^^ -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
I am not sure what you are referring to when you say the instant-play function...
-
Oh sorry, the one where you can play CDs without actually loading windows. This has that right? It isn't a real sticking point so I didn't care to check.
-
I think the instant play thing for CDs is actually built into the BIOS, not a separate OS on a separate partition.
-
@Kilim
Man talk about the pleasure and the pain, lol... That sucks that you have
to send your lappy back. Powernotebooks.com sent me an email today and
my 5760 is due here in socal tomorrow! Got my fingers crossed! -

At this time I am having conflicting issues from what Sager is telling me to What DiscountLaptops is telling me.
Just got off the Phone with Matt Tucker of DiscountLaptops and he told me he will contact Sager personally and will call me back in a few to sort the matter.
Issue is Sager states they will ONLY replace my screen if:
But 4 of those Dead Pixels are bundled together in a square shape.
the 5th pixel is 2 pixels to the right of the bundle.
So according to DL, where I bought my 5760 from, I should be legible for a replacement because the Dead Pixels are stuck together in a bundle of 4.
So far no negative to post really, I think more of a miscommunication somewhere.
I hope thats it.
Will report more once Sager & DL sort some stuff out.
Trying to sort it out to see if I will have to RMA this or not today.
Worst case scenario, I am stuck with 5 Dead Pixels.
Don't want to send it to Sager only to find out I wasted Overnite Delivery and a weeks wait for nothing.
The 5760 is actually already packed and just needs to be sent to UPS once I get this call.
So now I am going to eat lunch and waiting for Matt From DL to call my cell phone. -
Ok so far we think the Dead Pixels are actually Dust or Dirt inside the LCD Screen.
(I have 1 Dead Pixel on my 19" LCD Screen at home and the crap on my 5760 does not look anything close to it)
So because I am now at work I can only send the laptop back tomorow the earliest.
So I am going to conduct soem tests while I am here at work.
So far this is what I like:
LapCool4:
I Like it so far.
Tilts the whole Laptop so its much easier to type on it!
(I didn't use the LapCool4 yesterday an I notice my wrists starts to hurt afetr a few hours of use, I do not notice it so far now that it is tilted)
Not sure how much it cools the laptop as I haven't installed some temp software.
(Is there a way to figure out the Temps on a laptop without any software installed?)
You can easily position the middle bottom vent of the 5760 right under the 2 fans of the LapCool4, so that vent is getting optimal fan use..
The bigger bottom fan on the right side is actually on the right edge of the LapCool4 so its not getting optimum fan but should be well ventilated as it has 2 inches of empty space right below it.
That is my preview review for now. -
Very cool, look forward to hearing more.
Also hope you can get your laptop fixed asap! Dust you say? That sounds really bad and maybe harder to repair than dead pixels, they will probally have to give you new screen if there is dirt inside the lcd.
Good luck. -
IT LIVES!!!
I received my 5760 today! Boy, I nearly kissed the UPS guy. I've taken the day to get to know my baby.
Now, either I'm blind as a bat, or there are NO dead pixels in this screen. ^^ I ran 3dmark 06 today without any real prep work. I got 4600 marks around about. I dont use the program a lot but I do know that lower numbers in 06 equal higher numbers from 05.
The screen is magnificent! I'm thankful I got the WSXGA cause I dont think I saw any resos higher than 1680/1050 in most of my games. (that IS it's native res right? ^^; )
From what I was able to play without a mouse (comes thursday) the game plays astoundingly good at native on this thing. Well... I'm blown away. The speakers are even decent for a laptop!
The speakers DO get a bit loud when they spin up, but I'm sure they'll break in over a little time, or I'll get used to them, either way is cool, heh.
Hey and after reading this thread I'm investigating Kaspersky, it looks like a REALLY good AV program. I'm thinking of getting it for the precious. ^^
This thing is better than any drug!!
-DrSNAFU -
Kaspersky is the best AV/Firewall program imo and I just recently installed it on a desktop. It is better than any other protection out there.
My laptop should be coming this thursday...but wait the tracking site now changed and says 6/12 and it used to say 6/8! Hopefully this is just a mistake online, since it just said yesterday or monday that it was going to be delivered thursday, and that would make sense with 4 day ground shipping I think.
