Good to hear that DrSNAFU, am hopeful to have the same good luck with the pixel situation, sorry to hear about kilim situation as that would be painful as I feel already like a kid waiting for Christmas day!!

Hey wait a minute, there is ONLY one "The Precious..."!
With that said, grats!
I am actually debating on sending my laptop for RMA tomorrow as I do not want a day away from "The Precious..".
I think they are actually stuck Pixels not dead pixels, not even sure the difference.
But it is really barely noticeable when I use my laptop normally.
No one at work even noticed it until I told them about it.
Maybe they was too busy admiring the beautiful screen(EVERYONE at work was drooling at my machine lol)
(Also the fact that I am still unsure if they will be able to replace/repair it for me considering my condition and do not want to waste time and money for nothing)
I will have to contact Matt @ DL and David from Sager again for what will be the best course.
Sager did say that I have an entire year to be eligible to have my LCD Screen replace IF I have 6 pixels or more, and 3 months IF I got a dead pixel in the center.
As for Kaspersky, from what I researched Kaspersky and NOD32 (ESET) are the top 2 best AV you can get.
I decided on getting the Kaspersky Internet Suite v6.0 as it has the AV, Firewall and more.
I did notice a slightly lower benchmark score when I did my benchmarks with Kaspersky though.
IF you are not sure, both Kaspersky and NOD32 have trial versions of their programs.
PS:
1st thing I did do is make a copy of the FN+F# functions!
Learned real fast to turn off my touchpad after start up lol -

Hey Marine...improvise.
"IF FOR ANY REASON WHATSOEVER YOU SHOULD FAIL TO BE SATISFIED WITH YOUR SAGER PRODUCT, YOU MAY RETURN IT WITHIN 30 DAYS AFTER ITS ORIGINAL PURCHASE FOR A 100% REFUND OF YOUR PURCHASE PRICE ALONE . SAGER WILL NOT REFUND THE COSTS OF OPENED SOFTWARE, DAMAGED ITEMS, ITEMS NOT RETURNED, NOR WILL SAGER REFUND SHIPPING COSTS."
It will cost you a little shipping...but you get a new one and what are the chances you would have the same level of screen difficulties? slim to none!
OORAH~ -
That is why I stated before in the Dead Pixel: Good and Bad thread that I was not too worried about the $200 Zero Dead Pixel Policy.
I guess the real issue here is this.
Its like trying to let go a long lost love you never met before until today.
I will have to wait tomorrow what I DL and Sager can do for me via Phone contact before I have to use the trump Card.
BTW this is what my Dead Pixels look like and where they are located attached below.
I made sure to use exactly 4 pixels bunched together with 1 just 2 pixels on the left.Attached Files:

For those of you that have the 5760 already how is the heat from this system?
-
I think it doesn't get warm as fast when I used the lapCool4 at work tonite.
I haven't installed any monitoring programs yet so cannot post specific digits.
Other than that, its not HOT but it does get a tad warm.
I was going to use Motherboard Monitor but I currently am not sure what the exact MB of teh 5760 is.
Can any1 help me out on that or tell me a good PC monitor program? -
I'm playing empire at war right now at work with it. XD
It gets kinda warm, put your hand on the side of your PC case, about that warm. The fans kick in and out when needed so I don't worry.
One question, I'm new to wireless (Omg this laptop has SO many extra processes dealing with wireless features. Like... 6 extra processes!) How do I set the thing up so it doesn't give me the "Wireless network disconnected" icon to stop showing up in my systray? I'm a stickler for a clean systray. =)
Oh, I'm looking at Kaspersky as an AV, I'm hell bent on using Zonealarm Pro as a firewall. I know, I'm a masochist... I just like it! And i love solving problems, lol. -
Zonealarm....mmm I like that alot too, was using the ZA Security Suite for years. I only just recently fully switched to Kaspersky on this family desktop, because it has one of the best AV and equal if not better Firewall capabilities.mmm, sweet.
-
There are a few sites that has independent studies on AV, I forgot which ones.
But from what i gathered, Kaspersky & NOD32 are the best.
(Just for the love of GOD do NOT use Norton!!!)
For FREE AV its Antivir/Avast or AVG FREE, in that order.
I have Anti-vir now in my Desktop after using AVG FREE and Avast.
IF you are NOT using Wireless Connection and you want teh pop-up to disappear.
Its easy, right click on the Wireless Connection Icon and Select "Wireless Off"
This will remove the pop-up notification that your adapter is receiving wireless signals but will keep the icon.
I only installed the Intel Wireless Adapter driver from the Driver CD that came with the package, not the separate Intel Wireless CD.
This is what I have to do at work because the net admin is not allowing me to get wireless connection
So i just unplug the LAN from my workstation and connect it to my laptop lol
(Actually that was teh net admins idea lol)
BTW.
I was told by Sager to just send my 5760 to them so they can check it out.
Hopefully it wont be gone long as i can already feel wtihdrawal while I pack it again to go to UPS Overnite -
Well that's the oddest thing, i used FN+F11 to shut off the wireless module, verified "wireless turned off", and I even went into the advanced settings for the wireless networks and unchecked the box beside "Notify me when this connection has limited or no connectivity", and I STILL get the "Wireless network conection: Not connected" Icon!
On a side note, it's going to take a lot of practice to not accidentally touch the fingerpad when typing, it totaly messes up my typing, heh.
I also have other questions as to the nature of upgrades for this laptop. Yeah, i'm a big laptop noob. ^^; I was looking thru the manual for the laptop, and found information on the modules. Now I know the manual isnt 100% accurate, since it still thinks I have an ATI video card, but it speaks of the bluetooth module as being internal, like the camera and wireless network. It even has an FN+ button to turn it on and off. But when I asked about it, I heard that it came in expantion card format. Does this bluetooth add-on take up the expresscard slot, or is it somthing I have to take the bottom cover off to insert?
It also said that the TV tuner expandtion is also internal, a mini PCI-E if I'm not mistaken. Can anyone shed some light on this stuff and what I'll need to do if I want to install these features in the future?
THanks guys. =) -
The Bluetooth and TV-Tuner has a slot for itself inside the laptop.
I think it actually shows it in the manual
It doesn't take space for other components but its own.
As for Touchpad, type FN+F1 and that turns it off.
You have to do it every start-up.
I learned fast when I was typing stuff and soemhow I was gettign messed up until I learned to turn off teh touchpad each start up lol.
What I did is make a copy of the FN functions in a small card for reference.
BTW:
I am off to send my 5760 RMA back to Sager.
Hopefully I will get "The Precious..." back soon. -
But I'm still perplexed as to what giveth with mine network stuffeth.
And good luck with the precious! You should have went with Powernotebooks, Donand really came through for me with this winner! A personal thanks to him for making my first laptop buying experiance a great one! -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
DrSNAFU...these are questions that you should be discussing with me...please call me and I will clear up all of your questions.
-

About the typing - point your palms outward from the touchpad so they are more natural. You should still be able to type fine yet not disturb the touchpad. Also don't rest your palms on the palmrest, I read that is not good for your wrists. They shouldn't rest on anything unless it's a wrist pad. Elbows also shouldn't rest on anything. -
my rists started hurting after a few hours.
Guess thast Carpal tunnel huh?
The next day I started using my LapCool4 at work with the 5760.
It did not hurt at all due to the laptop tilted w/ the LapCool4.
It actually made it comfortable.
That added tilt on the laptop keyboard makes a HUGE difference I think, at least for me.
Well, I made my UPS Overnit delivery of my 5760 to Sager and they should have it before noon tomorrow.
OW, it cost alot of money for that Overnite delivery
Hopefully it comes back to me very soon, already feling withdrawals.
Also hoping I don't have to use the Trump Card that Paladin has stated.
So my testings and benchmark will be delayed so my review will be delayed also.
So far I am impressed for it being my 1st laptop EVER!
Some of the benchmarks was better than the M1710 that was reviewed here while others was slightly lower.
But I was expecting that as the reviewed M1710 here has a slightly better system config than what I have on my 5760.
Until I get my 5760 back, I guess I will just sulk in a corner while enjoying reading others getting their own "Precious" at their doorsteps -
I finally got it! No dead pixels that I can see, but I may have an audio issue... whenever the optical drive is running I get some noise over the speakers I have plugged into the headphone jack. Anyone ever heard of this? Easy fix? Oh well, I am currently tweaking Oblivion / Installing Mods for the game to see if I can "Make It Pretty."
Will update as soon as I can!! So sweet... -
Ah yes, I was going to mention that. I have that issue too, whenever data is running off the optical drive, I too get this rapid clicking sound coming through the headphones. I've yet to see what happens if I try to play a DVD over headphones. It worries me just a little bit.
I might need to get a sound card... card. -
Well, I've had my first BSOD with my new laptop. Here's to firsts!
Surprise surprise, it's zonealarm! It might be a problem with having ZA, Kaspersky and Windows Defender (previously microsoft antispyware) running at the same time, or a general incompatability with the scan software, but every time I try to run ZA's spyware checker i get about 2 seconds into the scan and the notebook goes BSOD.
Its no great loss, I'll have a whole battery of antispyware software on this thing, and with Kasper and windows defender watching my back, there wont be much need for ZA's halfbaked antispyware checker. I've disabled it.
Just currious, does anyone else want to try replicating this problem? From the whole BSOD fiasco when Red Orchestra came out, I asume the folks at Zonelabs love help from outside. Heh
(Forgive my bad spelling please, geting used to this keyboard) -
Did you have Kaspersky Internet Suite or just the Anti-Virus?
Because the Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0 has a built-in Firewall included and that may be the cause of the poblem with ZoneAlarm if you are using Kaspersky IS.
I like the whole Internet Suite from Kaspersky as it only cost $20 more than just the Anti-Virus.
Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0 offers antivirus, anti-spyware, anti-spam and anti-hacker protection in one box for only $69.95 for a 1yr sub.
It even comes with a 30day trial version -
I called PowerNotebooks tech support about the clicking issue and they told me to call back tomorrow btwn 8&5 Pacific Time in hopes that we can talk to Sager about the issue... I hope the problem is correctable without having to RMA this baby
.
Oh well, if anyone else has this problem, let me know as any thing that could prevent having to send this thing off would be super, super duper. -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
Oops! They should have told you that they will escalate your issue to Sager (this is not something that they would be able to handle anyway) and to expect a call from a Sager technician tomorrow.
Can you email me with what number they should call, and what window of time would work for you (remembering they are on Pacific Time)? -
I think it may be an issue with the built-in microphone, how do I turn it off?
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
Control Panel>Sounds and Audio Devices>Audio or Voice tab ->Volume
Or, under the Volume tab - Device volume ->Advanced Mute the microphone -
Yeah, it will not allow me to mute the microphone (not even an option) and even when I lower the volume all of the way, It is still picking up sound as you can tell by rubbing your finger over the microphone and hearing it on the speakers. Why won't it let me mute the microphone?
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
Under the other two tabs it looks like you can't mute it, but under the Volume tab you can as described. Please tell me if this doesn't work. -
got mine today. i am very satisfied. no dead pixels btw. where do you guys get updated drivers for graphic card?
-
Charles P. Jefferies Lead Moderator Super Moderator
www.laptopvideo2go.com is great for Nvidia, I use them whenever I have an Nvidia machine.
-
Nope, just the antivirus. I keep finding that any company that strikes it big with an antivirus or antispyware tool, they decide they want to elbow into other fields too. Norton went from antivirus to firewall and antispyware, zonealarm puts out their own antivirus and antispyware tools too, same with McAfee. I can understand why, if someone buys their antivirus, maybe they'll go ahead and get the rest of their tools for simplicity sake, but I find these afterthought addons to be cheap and half-realized. I'd rather stick to each with what they're best at.
So far from what I can tell, Zonealarm is the best firewall for me since I've used it a long time, Kaspersky is above and beyond any antivirus out there, and Windows Defender is good enough as an anti-spyware tool. I'm sure in the future antispyware tools will be more important, but I haven't had much threat from them yet.
And on the issue of the clicking, I've heard a lot about the 57** issues with the headphone sound, either static or clicking. It might simply be an issue with the architecture, but I still hope it can be fixed somehow. Lets keep our fingers crossed. -
Got mine yesterday. Have not spent much time with her yet, I have fired it up only once so far. Visually, there appears to no dead pixels.
So far, so good. -
Got my 5760 yesterday. I was way too tired to spend much time
with it but I did turn it on and the screen is absolutely beautiful! No dead
pixels as far as I can tell. Work and family obligations will keep me from
setting the computer up the way I like until this weekend. I'll post more
once I've run some tests! -
Yeah, the advanced option is greyed out when I go Control Panel - Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices - Sounds and audio devices - Audio - sound recording - volume and no advanced. There is a box under the mic volume level that says select, but has no effect whether or not I select it. What's the dealio? All I want to do is turn off the microphone.
-
@nukenip
hmm one thing I have to make sure I test when I get my 5760 back from Sager.
I only have a USB Headset at thsi time though.
Maybe I will use my son's PC Speakers to test it as they should plug in to the audio jack.
BTW:
Update on my 5760
Sager just emailed me back that it did in fact look like dirt to them.
David from Sager stated they will be "replacing the screen and burn test overnite."
Waiting now for a reply from DL if they can help me get compensation for th delivery and/or at least get an Overnite delivery back to me.
I just want "The Precious..." back in my presence.
Withdrawal is already acting up ... -
Charles P. Jefferies Lead Moderator Super Moderator
Hey Kilim, the service looks to be decent so far. Yeah, I hope you can get some compensation for your shipping, I can imagine Overnight was quite expensive.
-
Best way to contact Sager or DL was by Email so far.
At least if you want to contact DL best bet is to get in touch with Matt there.
I could have sent my 5760 as early as Tuesday, but I was still emailing back and forth with Sager & DL for most of teh day while taking care of my 3 yr old son.
And by teh time we got to our conclusion, I had to go to work and could not ship my 5760 until Wednesday.
It cost me $150 for Overnite UPS Delivery.
So now I am waiting for an email reply to see if they can compensat it or what will happen with teh return delivery back to me as I want "The Precious ..." ASAP. -
Alas, it does not appear to be an internal mic issue as the same problems occured when I reinstalled windows (without the microphone being recognized. This worries me that it is more than a driver issue. If any and all who have recieved the 5760 could try a test where they have either headphones or speakers connected to an audio port (not USB) and listen as they install something off a disc. I do not understand - everything else seems to be fine. Sager called me and left a message suggesting that I mute the CD In volume in the control panel and to inform me that they had not heard of anything like this yet. On the bright side, the issue did not seem to heavily affect dvd playback (still noticible, or maybe paranoia) - it only seems noticible when data is being transfered from the optical drive to the hard drive. Why me?
-
Sounds like everything is pretty much working out for you Kilim! Good news. Only ouch is the $150 overnite--thought it was more like $100, but either way still very pricey. Main thing is you get your precious laptop back ASAP!
-
So far it its not looking good for any compensation or posibility for an expedited return shipping with out getting charged extra for it.
Considering that it was dirt inside the screen, I think even if I have paid for the extra $200 for "Zero Dead Pixel Policy" I would have still end up paying for the shipment to them.
So far this is the only bad report I have heard about such an issue, and sucks that it was me, but at least I ahven't heard this to be a common issue.
Have to have a rotten apple among the bunch, just sucks its mine lol.
Hopefully everything else goes well and have "The Precious ..." back to its master soon -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
Kilim, you can invoke the Sager DOA policy (it has to be a defect discovered and reported within 10 days of your ship date...and you certainly qualify for that) and request 2nd Day Air shipment back to you. They won't do Next Day, but if you want you can pay the difference between 2nd Day and Next Day (or Next Day Saturday Delivery if they are ready to ship it on Friday) if you want it back a day earlier.
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
They will indeed pay for 2nd Day Air back to you, and would have paid for Ground back to them under the DOA policy. You just need to say the magic words "DOA Policy".
But if you ship it to them Next Day they won't reimburse you for that. -
Yes, I have already been told that I should be getting a 2nd Day delivery without saying the "DOA Policy".
DL actually mentioned that to me also as can be seen in my post soemwhere here.
Was just trying to see if anything could have been done differently.
I sent it to them Overnite Delivery so I can get it sooner.
They got my 5760 early this morning so I am hoping to get it by Saturday but I am seeing a realistic Tuesday/Wednesday delivery.
(If they can deliver it sooner, even better but I am going to plan to expect a later delivery so I won't be disappointed)
Hopefully there is no other issues I find once I get it as shipping can take a toll on ya.
I just hope the next time I find issues with my 5760 is after 1 yr I have used it so shipping won't be from my pocket after that. -
UPDATE on my 5760 that got sent back to Sager:
Maybe I should get better wipes.
Anyone has any specific suggestions? -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
Here is a great read on cleaning your screen, and making your own cleaner for pennies instead of buying the expensive stuff.
-
I've been tinkering around with my baby for about... every waking moment for the last few days. I've played Oblivion, I had to turn down a few options like plant distance since it IS playing at an ungodly high resolution. ^^
Battlefield 2 is so smooth it's crazy.
I've had this TINY problem for the last few days, I don't know if its software, hardware or my cable. But maybe once or twice a day while I'm surfing the net, when i click a link the page I'll go to will be blank, just blank white. It's happened in Firefox, and one time in the ingame browser in eve. It'll take a while longer to nail down and probably isn't worth mentioning.
Other than that, this thing is the very meaning of perfection! Couldn't be happier!
(And thx to Donald for helping with my network bug, it's all sorted out now) -
UPDATE:
Just got the tracking number for my 5760's return home.
UPS hasn't picked it up from Sager at this exact second but the UPS tracking number has been sent to me by Sager.
You know I will be refreshing the UPS tracking page every hour now lol.
I am expecting "The Precious ..." on my doorstep on Tuesday.
Can't wait to be reunited again.
Feels like forever ....
PS:
I sent my 5760 on last Wednesday via Overnite delivery UPS.
Sager recieved it on Thursday.
Sager found the problem and replaced my LCD Screen and suppose to do a burn in test overnite.
Received an email today with a tracking number stating my 5760 should be returned this coming Tuesday.
Not bad service so far I guess. -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
He suggested that if you mute the CD Volume in your audio mixer it will silence the clicking, but realizes this is only a temporary fix. Surprisingly this shouldnt cause any audio play back issues because the CD Volume channel was only used before the audio can be sent to the IDE data cable back in the P1 / P2 days. Today all audio is transferred to the IDE DATA channel directly.
I will let you know when Clevo provides a more permanent fix, but in the mean time his fix will work without any issues. -
quick question to the 5670 owners with the sound issue.... is this a deal breaker? is it bad enough to warrant not buying this laptop, or at least wait until the issue is resolved? I think I'm decided to get this laptop from powernotebooks, but I wanna make sure this isn't a sign of impending doom on the 5670
-
Hmm, I've had the same optical drive clicking problem through the headphones, and muteing the CD line in volume in the control panel seems to fix it for me too. ^^
And no, the sound issue was only a minor annoyance and so far the fix seems to have fixed it up good. -
hehe thanks, that's a relief. Gonna add my name to the list of 5670 owners
-

WeelyTM...it is NP5760 not 5670...
And...welcome to the list! -
