My wireless works on 64bit Vista, but it is pretty slow compared to the speed I get when I use my brother's MacBook.

Is it possible that I am getting a slower internet connection due to the OS? I'm not knowledgeable on this matter, so I'm just wondering...

go to laptopvideo2go.com. You have to download the .inf file along with the driver. Replace the .inf file with the one in the extracted folder. Then run setup.exe and it will work.

In his scenario, the laptop was in his state, then went out of state, then back in his state. This is usually done to avoid paying the states sales tax if there is any.

Has anyone figured out a way to disable the touchpad yet? I asked in the FAQ thread but it went unnoticed. I'm pretty dissapointed there's no hardware switch to do it, but not even having a software solution seems downright illogical.

I never asked you to cancel your order. I never asked anyone to do anything. So I hope you realize that now. Since I am an owner of a Sager NP2090, I think it's appropriate that I am allowed to describe my experience in the Sager NP2090 Owners Lounge thread. If you wrote about your experience with the laptop, I would be more than happy to read it.

My post was written with positive intentions, and it doesn't need trashy responses. You should think of that the next time you make a post.

Drago, your issues sounded more like driver ones, not problems related specifically to the 2090 computer itself. Vista and the 8600 GPU are still so new that it doesn't surprise me that both are having SO many issues right now. With time, I imagine things will smooth out. The 2090 is a great computer from what I have read, it just doesn't have the driver support it needs. Does anyone know if Sager will update the instalation/drivers CD that comes with the 2090 as time goes on and better drivers and support become available?

The NP2090 is a great computer. I run XP on it without any issues and yes I installed it myself. And no, I did not have do perform any kind of intricate configuration to get it to work.

I run the Ubuntu 7.04 (Feisty) distribution of Linux also (that's actually my primary OS) and there are some issues and I did have to perform some intricate configuration to get most of the laptop but that's par for the course when using Linux on a laptop that contains technology that was released very recently. I'm not ready to put the blame on the 2090 for the issues I'm experiencing with Linux.

Some of the issues I have are due to bugs in the nVidia drivers, which nVidia has acknowledged. Is there perhaps a chance that the problems people are experiencing with Vista are due to manufacturers having not yet polished their Vista drivers? Maybe? Would that be possible?

I agree. But the drivers should be made stable before they're put on a CD and shipped out. It takes the excitement out of a brand new laptop when you get a host of problems on your first boot. And there is no telling when these issues will be fixed too. A great computer is nothing if it doesn't work half as well as it should.

I agree 100% with that statement. The problem however is bigger than the Sager NP2090. The problem is that MS did a poor job of QA'ing Vista and forced it down the throat of everyone: not just users but manufacturers also. It seems that MS created of lot of bad blood between itself and its hardware partners and now users a paying for it.

Remember, it's like this everytime a new OS comes out. There will always be problems. Microsoft forces their new OS down everybody, everybody complains about its problems, and in turn, Microsoft is forced to FIX the new OS. I think Vista will be fine once it gets a few service packs tacked on. I agree though, that it would be nice if manufacturers could fix the issues with their programs BEFORE releasing them.
Right now is a bad time to buy a computer if you want it issue-free and usable right out of the box, what with DX10 and Vista still so new and untamed.

What computers/parts have you been buying where the first drivers are ever stable? They need the trial and error of sending it out to know what to fix.

On one hand, this is the way thing are. If someone were to tell me that they want to buy a computer and that stability is absolutely PARAMOUNT, I'd recommend that they buy a model that has been released last winter or something even older than that.

On the other hand, the way things are sucks big time. And I say this as a former software engineer. There are QA methods that ought to ensure that software is stable but those methods don't seem to be applied.

I'm actually using XP, and I have fiddled around with the Device Manager. Luckily enough, there is no "Disable" option for the Elantech Touchpad. Uninstalling the drivers doesn't work either, as it still retains functionality.

I'm looking for a little more practical solution, as I would like to be able to use the touchpad occasionally.

    Time = money. :)

A lot of it has to do with greed. The earlier you get to release your product to the market, the best chance you get to grab a bigger share of the market and the earlier you recoup your development costs and put money in the bank. They also try to directly minimize the cost of development by cutting testing and hoping that everything will be peachy. Less testing = less man-hours spent on development = less costs. The problem with this is that there are going to be more costs later when development teams are going to have to spend time to fix the bugs the users find. Getting that point across to managers is a difficult task.

Some of it is just ignorance. For instance, you can find quite a few programmers that will swear that it is impossible to test a GUI application. But that opinion is nonsense. Even in the most hostile of GUI environments, it is possible to test an application that uses the GUI. I've done with with great success.

Some of it is also the reality of the market. Once in a while some user will ask indignantly "if software engineers can write robust software for planes and spaceships surely they can write a word processor more robust than Word!" I've heard quite a few variations on that theme. In reply, I point out that if the methods used to write the software for the Space Shuttle or any recent Boeing plane were applied to developing Word, then Word would cost so much that no normal user would want to buy it.

I was lucky that I worked in a group that believed testing to be paramount. But another group in that company did not believe in testing. So I was able to experience first hand the differences between good testing and bad testing (or more likely, nonexistent testing) and also the differences in mentality between people who believe in good testing and those who find excuses not to do it.

I just got mine today. I don't like the touchpad buttons and I need drivers for the touch pad that let me scroll(Update: sager drivers did the trick.) The underside feels warmer than what everyone has been saying. I'm thinking about leaving it on 64 bit Vista.

Edit: Anyone know how to get the fingerprint reader working in firefox?
