Your cables probably aren't connected, you gotta open up the panel. There's a thread around the compal forums about this. If I find it I'll edit this post.

GlueEater, did you get your fingerprint reader to work with firefox? I really need help, it says "The window is not an Internet Explorer window".
Edit: and my touchpad only work for scrolling a fraction of the time, its disappointing.

I switched over to IE a while back so I don't know.
Scrolling touch pad has worked fine for me.

Scrolling and tap disable works for me, you just have to have the little KTP Elantech touchpad drivers running in the background for those features to take effect.

I just installed yahoo IM on mine and the webcam works fine. I am using Vista Ultimate 64 bit, so if that works it should be no problem.

I'm using whatever touchpad drivers are on the sager site. The touchpad icon should be a gray square box btw.

To get the webcam to work all you have to do is download the camera software/drivers. I believe it's called AMcap.

My webcam does work. But is it normal for the fingerprint reader to use up 1.3 GB of RAM out of 2? I just ended the process because it was bogging down my computer too much.

The Product Key should be on the envelope or box that it came in, or the manual. You are looking for the Certificate of Authenticity...it will be on that sticker.

TV tuners seem to be a definite delay. Donald mentioned there may also be a delay on the T7300 and T7500 processors, though I wouldn't expect this one to be nearly as bad as the previous delays.

There have been long ship times so far due to lack of availability on some key components from the manufacturer that seem to have been largely resolved this past week. Some people were pre-ordered for over approximately 1-2 months before shipping. Mine ordered July 28th just shipped yesterday and will arrive on Monday. The pre-orders seem to be shipping out very quickly now and the latest estimated date is to have all pre-orders filled by the end of the month. I think you should be safe to order now and get it fairly soon, but don't expect a next day shipment by any means at this point. I think if you order next week you shouldn't have too long of a wait, but nobody can really say and I don't have any other specifics on the shortage of the above referenced processors.

    @ mixxter:

I report the same issues as you with Opera. As far as I can tell, the fingerprint reader identifies dialogue boxes it deems readable, and then allows you to save the information. Apparently neither Opera or Firefox register as IE or dialogue boxes (the 2 recognition modules the software contains). It would be possible to fix with a software patch, but I doubt the manufacturer will push for this.

Also, my scrolling seems to fail in Opera, which is frankly annoying. However, I have confirmed it works in other instances, so I have no idea what that is about.

Yes I too am severely disappointed by the slightly lacking Firefox and massively lacking Opera support. I have been using Opera for the last 4 hours and the lack of fingerprint and scrolling support are beyond irritating. I cannot say that I am satisfied with the fact that I am forced to use IE if I want all features.

If you've installed the webcam drivers, Windows should detect it. I'm on XP, so if you're also on XP, then you can go to My Computer and look for "USB Camera Device" and that's one way to use it.

There are also a lot of apps that can use the webcam as well.

I'm looking forward to getting my 2090, as I just switched over from ordering the PowerPro because of the better shipping times. I'm at the back of the Sager line now, but I've heard I should be shipping by the end of the next week hopefully. I ordered with the T7700 proc, so hopefully since they have more of those in stock it will bump up my order :).

    Bye bye PowerPro, hello Sager!

I ordered mine July 29th with the specs in my signature and it shipped last Tuesday and is scheduled to arrive this Monday, so you both should be soon Wisp and Yahto.

The only thing I could see delaying it is Donald mentioned something about a shortage of T7300 and T7500 processors. Unless of course you got a TV tuner then you will definitely still be delayed.

Well guys I've decided that I'm actually quite disappointed with this laptop. The worst part for me is the screen. It has the quality of a late 90s screen, whoever put this screen in, I'm guessing Compal, really is trying to be cheap. I've never seen a worse quality LCD screen in the last 2 years. LCD screen technology has made great looking screens really affordable. The vertical viewing angle is disgusting. There really is no good angle to see this thing clearly. The Contrast is practically non existent, blacks just appear as dark grays. I wish I had bought a Dell Vostro 1500. I'm quite disappointed. Just because I picked the WXGA doesn't mean I want an LCD screen made with 5 year old technology. I highly advise you all avoid the WXGA at all cost if you want a good quality viewing experience. What a disappointment.

Whats wrong with Late 90s technology? The only thing that has progressed is Resolution allong with Shiney displays. just because it is shiney doesnt meen its bad. Im guess i cant comment on the Quality because i dont have myne yet, but i am not at all "worried" about this...

The problem with late 90s LCD technology is contrast and viewing angle. Also, I don't have a problem because its glossy, However I chose the glossy screen because I was told glossy screens appear to have better contrast and this is not the case at all with my laptop. The only downside for glossy screens in general is that it can creates high amounts of glare in lighted areas. I can clearly tell this screen is low quality in pitch black, therefore the gloss has nothing to do with what I'm talking about.

Sager has shipped hundreds of these and you are the only person who has had these objections with the screen.

I can only suggest that maybe your settings are off…or the screen itself might be faulty.

Please call our Lifetime 24/7 Toll Free DOMESTIC Technical Support for help with this. If we can’t get you satisfied with troubleshooting your settings we will get you an RMA so you can send it back to let Sager take a look.

If there is something wrong with it they will fix it, or if they determine that it is normal we will happily give you a refund and you can buy something else. :)

Also do the touch sensitive buttons light up to indicate that they are on?

or more accurately the one that will hopefully ship to me soon enough. Xoticpc said they would have them in about a week, anyone have any idea how soon after that it will ship? Obviously I am beyond anxious to see that ups truck roll up and give me my new baby. I go to school in less than a month and i really would rather have it before then. anywho thanks to anyone who may be in the know or have the same situation. i feel for ya.

Provided you don't have a TV tuner on the order I would imagine that it wouldn't take too long to ship. The large backlog of pre-orders have been being filled very quickly since about the 14th of August and they seem to be quickly catching up to the current orders.

What type of screen do you have? There was a longer backlog of pre-orders for the WSXGA+ matte screen. WXGA glossy will likely ship quicker.

Donald mentioned there may be some type of delay with some of the T7300 and T7500 processors. I don't know how much of a delay this is and who would be affected. I wouldn't imagine the delay on such a popular processor to last too long, but you never know.

I ordered my NP2090 also from Xotic on July 28th and it shipped last Tuesday, August 21st. It is currently in transit via UPS and scheduled to arrive on Monday, August 27th in just less than one month. When I ordered mine there was a huge backlog of pre-orders that needed to be filled, so I would imagine the time it takes to recieve your would be quicker now that regular shipments seem to be going out.

When it really comes down to it, only one part being delayed from a manufacturer can delay shipment of your laptop, so nobody here really knows for sure. I would highly advise against a TV tuner if you need it within the month.

I have the matte screen but I don't think there's a difference in viewing angles between matte and glossy. (Correct me if I'm wrong.) The viewing angles on my NP2090 are certainly better than the 2 Dells I bought in 2001 and 2004. As far as viewing angles go: late 90s technology? I think not.

As far as contrast goes, I'm not complaining. It is at least as good as the two Dells I mention above. But then again, I have the matte screen and there is supposedly a difference between glossy and matte with regard to contrast. (I would not know: never owned a glossy laptop screen.)

I took a look at a bunch of new glossy's at local stores and never saw one that had a large viewing angle. I have always owned a matte screen on all of my laptops. My current Compaq Presario v2000 that I am replacing has a matte screen but it is not a very large viewing angle at all, and the descriptions of the WXSGA+ sound as if it will be much better viewing angles on the matte screen.

Have you had a glossy before with large viewing angles? Personally I don't think the increased glare and decreased viewing angles are worth the more vibrant color, but then again I am not too intense with graphical applications, graphic design, or gaming (outside of some Blizzard RTS but I am not too concerned about vibrant colors).

I don't intend to be anti-glossy by any means just because it is not my personal preference. The majority of my friends prefer glossy over the matte in fact. Most of the glossy screens I have sampled (though I have never owned a glossy since I prefer matte) seem to have decreased horizontal and vertical viewing angles with the lights on. I typically never have the lights off when using my PC as it strains my eyes so the viewing angles may be increased with the lights off.

I have seen three or four different glossies in well lit homes, one in a well lit airport, and many in well lit stores on display. I have never sampled with a dimmer lighting so maybe that is what makes the difference the glare is increased when increasing the viewing angle.

My current Compaq Presior v2000 Matte has a very poor viewing angle which is another reason why I am excited to get my NP2090 on Monday. I have heard it is much better and I have seen much better matte viewing angles than the ones I currently have.

To clarify my rather wordy posts, I cannot state whether or not there is a difference in viewing angles between the matte/glossy of a similarly manufactured screen type designed for larger viewing angles. What I can say is that I personally have never seen a glossy that has wide viewing angles in a well lit environment. Perhaps it is because the glare gets much worse when not looking straight on at the screen.

To get back a bit to what originally started this topic diversion, if you have problems with your screen or are unsatisfied with your purchase contact your re-seller (guessing powernotebooks from Donald's post) and see if you have a setting that needs adjusted or send it back to see if there is a screen defect. If not you can always consider upgrading to a different screen. Don't just assume glossy is better because people you know prefer glossy. Take a look at both screen types and decide based on what you like best.

I think you will be okay. I ordered mine on 8/2 and just got shipping confirmation on 8/23 (from Xotic). So just a little over three weeks for mine. I got the WSXGA+ with the T7500 which is supposed to be slower shipping than the T7300 right now.

I'll officially be part of the owners club on Tuesday :D

I ordered mine on August 4, too, but my order hasn't moved out of "PRE-ORDER Pending Item Arrival." Is Xotic apt to update this before shipping or just go ahead and ship?

    I ordered a 2.0GHz T7300, 1x2GB RAM and a 7200rpm 160GB HDD.

haha, ive had my 2090 for two days now it still hasn't moved out the "pre-order pending item arrival" on xotic's site. this is a very minor contributing factor, but my experience with xotic was not nearly as flawless and easy as most it seems.
