I have the new firmware it seems fn+3 work much nicer now than before, seems a bit quiter as well, though to me it wasnt loud in the first place. Thanks ALL for those who kept this thread in the loop!! :)

It seems I'm still getting the 2nd (higher pitched, grainier sounding fan) ramping up and down a few times a minute, although I don't think it's as bad as before the newest firmware.

Does anyone else have that as well? Or is it do to my GPU never getting below 47C at idle? (according to rivatuner and hwmonitor)

Are you sure it`s the latest? (.h version)
In my case, once the fans kick in once, they remain at medium mode until a bigger speed is needed,so I guess FN+3 mode is never required anymore :D

I think it's the right version.

On the Sager site I downloaded the 5793 KBC/EC Firmware 1.00.07Sh and installed via instructions on this thread. Does that sound right? (no pun intended).

If that is correct, I wonder why it's ramping today. Could it be due to the idle GPU temp being 47-48C for my 8800m GTX? I'm not sure if that's a normal temp or not.

Using Vista, that temp sounds normal.
When I used Vista, I would get 45-46C for med speed , and in XP I get about 32-33C. It`s also raising the performance bar, and XP SP3 is going to increase it even more.
It can`t be ramping up an down, this last firmware virtually eliminated the ramping up and down. Once the fans kick in, they STAY ON. Tested .
Make sure you burned the image correctly onto the cd,and flashed it correctly.
You can do it again if you feel it has not been completed in the first place.
As I said, this last firmware erradicated the ramping and reduced the noise levels.

Thanks for the info! Sorry I didn't specify that I'm using good ol' XP Pro SP2. I wonder how your temps are sooo low. :)

I'll have another go at installing the firmware.

How they`re so low? I dunno, I clean my laptop EVERY month for dust, keep it raised some 4 inches (the back) and keep it somewhere closer to the middle of the room, not next to a wall to build up heat.
And I take care of it,my girlfriend is sometimes jealous. But she knows it`s my baby :D

    @ Eleron :twitcy: Nice!!!

Anyway, I burned another image with Nero this time and tried again. Same result. I booted from the CD-R and followed the directions. In the end, my PC beeps loudly and dims the screen and I get this.

I have to hit the power button off/on to get out.

Does all the above seem correct to you? I can still hear 1 fan cycle on/off a few times a minute.

    Thanks!

Yes,it`s how I do it also.
But the ramping has been completely eliminated.I`ll post a screenshot tomorrow when starting the computer and you`ll see that once it hits 39C for me, than it stays on.
How about Fn+3 ,does it seem quieter and keep the fan speed docile?
I am thinking that every system seems to behave differently.
    I have a core 2 duo t7500, and 7950GTX, branded Sager 5791.
    What about you ?

Yes, fn+3 is pretty nice and with no ramps. :)

    I have:

    Sager NP5793.
    WinXP Pro SP2
    2.5 Ghz T9300 Penryn
    8800m GTX
    200GB 7200 RPM Seagate HD.
    4 GB Ram.
WSXGA+ Glossy (Yeah, like that's gonna make a difference here :D)

Maybe you are right that it could behave differently on different systems. That and maybe yours is so cool. ;)

Anyway, I'm glad to hear that you have 0 ramp issues now. :)

I'll just stick with whatever I have I guess.

    Thanks!

Any moderator can explain what was wrong with it? I was just trying to explain how the new firmware works, and poof , the post was deleted

Reseat the HDD? There aren't any heatsinks that I know of on the HDD. Only that metal plate that covers it. Do you have a program accessing the HDD at all times. My hard drive only reaches that with lots of use. Maybe vista search indexing?

    Dan

    EDIT:
Eleron911 got in before me. I guess it's normal, based on your other temps. Ambient rooms temp could be affecting this. Right now here in Ohio, it's pretty cool, so nevermind my post.

Fine, don`t pay attention. But you won`t get it cooler than that,it`s just the regular temp when you do a lot of disk usage.

Okay, back from getting hammered :p

Ive just installed the .sh firmware and tbh, so far its working perfect ;)

Fired it up after installing the firmware, it jumped a little in temps, to a little over 50°C on the cpu and after a little, it setteled back on the previous temps, howering between 35-40°C :)

I havent heard it ramping so far ;) Ram area seems to be slightly warmer than before?? :s Dunno might just be my imagination...

But all in all, so far all is good :)

    naticus:
Ill confirm thoes temps, mine idle around 49-51°C and under full load it can reach 60°, so there is nothing wrong with your temp ;) TBH I think the HD temp of this notebook is quite high in general, tho nothing extreme.

Uhm, I dunno dude, I don`t touch the RAM area anyhow.
I`m uploading a file that show just how the temperature behaves once I start the laptop. Once fan start, and then it stays on.
I`ll be uploading a video also,as soon as I figure out why WinAVi converter does not insert sound when I convert the .avi file...

Guess it was nothing, or just a ram intensive task running in the background, heat level is back to normal ;)

My fans do the same, power on the comp, fans starts slowly and fan rpm raises slightly to a lower noiselevel than before and settles there, thats with automode :) There is some increases in fan speed, when needed, but its nothing compared to before :) Temps idle/browsing stays around 37°-39°, and ramp up to mid 40'ies starting up a browser window or mediaplayer, just like before, just without fanramping :D

I'd give you more rep points if I had 'em available! Awesome work. Also, kudos to Sager for actually listening, and to the resellers for pushing. All I can think of is - when was the last time a major international brand listened, actually listened and responded, to the legitimate concerns of, as far as I can count, fewer than 10 customers and a couple of resellers?

There's probably a lot more than that lurking on this thread. I've been following it closely but haven't really participated. But I see on the forum home page that there's been over 20,000 views on this thread.

I'm very glad to see Clevo responding on this. I love my M570RU, but the fan really was ridiculous. The new firmware is much better. I've still got an issue or two with my machine, but seeing Clevo respond is what will allow me to buy from them again in the future.

    I dunno. I`m visualising quad :D
But as far as I`m concerned, 4000$ will be my limit. It`s still a lot of money, and as any poor student,I am weary of the thought but I`ve learned one thing.
You only have 1 life and you want many things. If you don`t endulge yourself with the small pleasures in life you`ll become bitter and unsatisfied. I don`t care about the money anymore as I did before, although I`m still doing savings and all.
If I`ll be able to, my next car will also be a Porsche 911. Even if it`s used.

Man, I'm glad to see that the fan issue has finally been resolved. Like someone else said, this laptop is back to being top choice for me when I buy one this summer once Montevina is released.

So what's the difference now between auto mode (Fn +2) and medium (Fn +3)?

Auto Mode is not Fn+2, that is the SRS WoW effect.
    Fn+1 is auto mode/full blast.
Auto mode starts identically as medium mode and increases only when needed :D

This is great news. As the property I was waiting to sell closed on Monday.
As soon as the check clears I can buy my laptop. Now I just neeed to decide if I should buy now or wait for the Montevina chips to come out.
I can always used my work lap-top at home now.
