Yep you had to switch to Fn+3 mode in .f release to avoid GPU fan ramping. I think no changes were made to default mode (Auto) and this is the reasons why Clevo made these toggles, so people can compare changes they made with original default mode.
Two pages back Justin said that Sager/Clevo were working on some improvements in the auto mode, so maybe they fix the ramping issue in Auto mode too in .g
-
-
so did they or not?
-
I'm sure it's not the hard drive making the buzzing hum. It only comes on when the gpu fan goes into its new really low state. The entire right back of the laptop vibrates.
Dan -
that doesn't sound good.
Anybody else experiencing this also? I think I might skip this firmware... :twitcy: -
I noticed what was making the buzzing hum. The new low state on the gpu fan seems to make the laptop vibrate a lot. Even more than full speed. The buzzing was caused by my keys rattling to this extra vibration.
Dan -
youre experiencing vibration? not getting that over here
-
Yeah, it vibrates the slightest amount when the gpu fan goes into a low on state (enough to rattle keys). It's like the fans want to ramp up, are stopped, and try again many times a second. I've gone back to the previous firmware update and don't have any problem with the minor vibrations experienced with firmware g. I have no idea what it's doing. It seems a lot like the buzzing that electrical motors make when you either stall them or don't give them enough power.
Dan -
-
That sounds possible...but not too much I can do about that. Oh well, previous firmware stays then.

I have reported this to a Senior Engineer at Sager and will report back on any details they provide.
Do you notice any of this vibration with the prior firmware?
eleron - your tried it yet? -
No, I haven't noticed this vibration with previous firmwares. I'm using the " f " firmware right now in fn+3 mode. No vibrations, the laptop is very still.
Dan -
i have installed the lates firmware (SG variant), no vibrations,
when playing in Fn+3 mode, the fan is very quiet,
but when gaming it doesnt turn it self up and the gou temp is 72 deg C.
lucky i have a zalman cooler, but the med fan did not turn it self higher to accomodate the heat.
before with factory shipped firmware i was idleing round 60-65 when gaming with 'normal fan' mode. -
We need a new firmware again -
where can I download the old firmware, kind of hesitant to try this without the older version backed up.
-
Tell me a site with free hosting and I`ll upload it for you...

A new firmware is being developed
Once we receive a update that it is ready I will be sure to update.
-
Dude,I uploaded it on the site, but when I go to the link , it sends me to a freakin toolbar download.
Maybe you can figure this out!
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=5NJ2WBR5 -
>.> not sure about the toolbar download, but It works for me
. Thanks.
-
Installed the toolbar thing. Now I have a yellow thingy like a wireless conection monitor.
Woohoo.
Man, If Clevo can`t make this newer(h is it?)firmware right, I swear I`ll go into vibrating laptops` bussiness and make a lot of chicks happy. 10 $ an hour. -
ok tested, FN+3 does seem quieter now, auto mode still ramps up and it does vibrate a little bit, but certainly not enough to get a girl off lol. Hard to decide which one I like, .f with medium kept temps in the low 40c range, with the .g version temps are 45-46c, but definitely quieter.
-
You know, I never did bother checking the temps as the vibrating thing sort of got me worried.
Pair the fan vibration with the cd drive vibration and surely I`d make a bussiness! -
Hah, I knew I wasn't just seeing or hearing things. The firmware does make it vibrate. I not crazy at all! :twitcy: Waiting for new firmware.
Dan -
Anyone know if they are still working on this issue?
I dont want to get the M570RU knowing i will have to tackle this situation after i get it and seeing as there is no solution yet that would make a user 100% satisfied(assuming he doesnt have over crazy expectations) -
I already am crazy :twitcy:
. I strongly believe that the only thing they can REALLY do is TO GET BETTER FANS. It is the fans that are just blunt noisy. No matter how slow they work, they`ll always bother people in quiet places, or when trying to sleep...dorm people beware
-
Is that coz your a light sleeper?
I might be able to get away with it since i sleep heavy
But thats not a 100% fix ... if more people complain about the annoyance, will sager change the fans?
Oh btw... is it possible for a user to buy and install newer fans by him/herself?(not that i would know which fans would actually be quieter) -
It is possible, but then again, it`d have to be done down at the mechanic and engineering level. You can`t just pay some fans and replace them. You need special ones that aren`t to heavy, nor to power hungry ,that don`t jiggle, vibrate, stop, growl, burp or scream.
Reminds me of an older desktop with a riva tnt 2 32 mb which I OCed the crap out of and the fans would practically scream "cool meeee coool meee"
So I smashed the bugger. -
Just got another idea : Clevo could just unlock the fans setting screen in the BIOS so everyone could set them up the way they want. Of course they could have some security settings that would override user's settings in case of overheating...
Just hope .h will solve all of this. -
-
-
-
yeah
10 char -
Sometime next week, maybe monday or tuesday.
I say that the only REAL fix is to replace the fans permanently. Some D901C fans would work better, since they`re definitely quieter -
Justin@XoticPC Company Representative
The new firmware is in final development at Sager, should be out early next week.
-
Or is it "final" as in "If that doesn't work, there's no other solution" ?
EDIT: And suppose I buy the laptop from you after this firmware releases, will the laptop come with the latest firmware that released then ? -
Justin@XoticPC Company Representative
Sager will ship with the latest released firmware. Sager has been continually making tweaks to the firmware based on feedback received. I didn't mean it would be their last firmware
, i meant it was in the later stages of development and then will be released.
-
More fan firmware updates yay. I'm wondering how many updates the 5793 will go through before I can buy mine in May.....
-
-
Just sit back and wait. I'm going to be buying a laptop soon probably from Justin. But since I can use my work Thinkpad R-40 at at home I'm in no hurry.
But I do wish this issue can be resolved. Other wise I'm going to pass on this model. Which is a shame because 9262 is too much for my needs.
Hey Justin are you planning to carry the Asus M50Sv-B1.
Thanks. -
I don`t mind updates.
I have a great respect for Sager for even bothering to do this. It shows a lot. And eventually, they`ll get to the bottom of it.
But, Justin, have you suggested them to also think about a fan replacement program?
I don`t think there`s anyone here who wouldn`t pay 100$ for another set of fans if they`d totally remove the noise,or maybe a chasis upgrade that would seel the noise compartments somehow... -
-
No, because that means ditching all the 5790,1,2,and 3 users.
The issue is ridiculous. My grandmother, which is almost deth is bothered by the fans. No seriousely, there is a lot of room for improvement here...
Lol Nawpeth -
Yeah... you're right.. What I meant to say was, even if they keep the name the same, and if they introduce new fans, they should provide them with newer purchases by default... as in, not something that will have to be purchased separately later for future buyers..
-
>.> wonder if the np9262's fans would work in the Np5793.
-
They are large diameter fans, and from what I remember form pics of the D901C and M570RU, they`re somewhat smaller ( they are 4 , instead of 2)
-
-
You got the me there
Typo.
Anyways, as I was writing this particular post she asked me if I could make the laptop less noisy
I said, give me 2 k and I`ll buy another one -
I have an older M570RU for testing, one with a MiniPCI slot inside for a TV tuner and one MiniPCIe for WiFi. Video Go7950GTX. Will the update work on it? if it screws anything up, I'll be held responsible...
E: Never mind, I worked fine. With Fn+3, it IS much quieter than before. -
There seem to be a new bios out 1.00.08 that hopefully fixes the 8800M graphic card from downclocking itself.
So how does the new bios relate to the fan firmware fix? Will there be a version for 1.00.08 as well? -
08´BIOS is out already a long time...
