Day 3...Fans do not bother me at ALL....I'm surprised so many people are woried about cheap fans and very few mention the dim LCD.

Dude, would you mind posting a video about your laptop , noise and such? I posted my own set and I`d like to see if the 5793 chasis is all it`s cracked up to be.
If so, I`m definitely getting the new chasis and asking for a 3rd fan :D

anyone know if the 5793 chassis is Sager-only? or would European resellers (eg. RockDirect) also sell them with the additional fan now? I assume so, if they come with 8800m GTX and possible X9000 proc?

yes the Sager 5793 is using a standard M570RU-U chassis.

Rock and others with the latest revision of the system will have the same chassis.

I don't think voltage or case makes a diff...It is the fans itself imo...I'll get that vid done when my son goes to sleep. ;)

:D You wanna wake him up? LOL
Na, I`m willing to bet that THE FANS are the key to the real sollution...I`m not really willing to try it just yet, but different fans would most certainly provide the same cooling at lower noise levels.
Or it must be something in the old chasis that causes the air rushing out to make abnormally louder noise than just air coming out.
I know it can be done, the 926x is living proof that gaming laptops can be pretty quiet for basic operations. Even full tilt is not so loud on those.

One thing to consider also, you have the 8700M GT,so it`s going to create less heat.
But the noise level should be the same.
Even Anandtech said that the M570ru-u or whatever can get upto 45-47 db of noise, and that IS A LOT.

Although I`m used to it,I still hope that the noise levels will go somewhat down with this firmware...

TBH im running without firmware, as this is bought through a Danish reseller and haven't got my hands in the firmware yet... But if you got a link to the firmware (assuming its the same firmware for each M570RU) I can try installing it and compare with and without :)

Actually, the one ive just uploaded to Youtube, you really cant hear the fans either, just used my mobile for it, but you should hear it anyways, also you hear me talking and im defently not yelling :p

    Here is a link:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IFrRiQxg4hU

Im firing up a bunch of stuff and you hear the fan level raise a little, and remember, this is with the firmware I got it with, no fn+3 mode or anything.

    Edit:
Didn't have any empty cd's laying around, so havent been able to install the firmware yet

Your 3dmark score seems awfully small. You should have at least 9k.
    Try better drivers...
And yes, it does seem quiet, but it might just be the phone. I`d like some high quality videos, like mine :p

By tomorrow i can have my digi-cam back and i can make a vid with that one :)

Well, Im running vista and 1.00.007 bios, so yet, I seem quite stuck with the 167.43 drivers. I guess thats why I get such a low score, but I still play crysis in 1920*1200 with Texture and Shader on high and rest on med, with playable framerates (havent been using a framecounter yet), only drops a little when zooming with sniping scope :p Thats DX 9 tho

well i think your score is about right with ur cpu.
I have a T7700 @ 2.4ghz and the most i got out of it with stock drivers is 8900 with vista. NV CP settings set to max performance.

peeps here with the T9300 are reaching 9K+ with there cpu, when i look at their SM2 and Sm3 scores they are near the same as mine, cpu is higher hence their higher score.

But i dont give jack sh1t bout 3d mark 06 scores realworld games is where its at. I find it funny when people reccomend a driver purely based on 3d marks 06 alone.

Well as I said, I play crysis in 1920*1200 in DX9 with playable framerates ;)

But yes, I think the scores are fine, when we are talking vista and 167.43 drivers (not that they are bad, havent really had any troubles with them yet), also using standart NV CP settings :)

its a shame that u cant update ur bios, using nre drivers crysis runs even better.

you'll find that the stock drivers have crap image quality compared to whats out there :p

Ok, so maybe I have a noisy unit. In that case, I`m`a have to figure this one out. Yours is like a fly, mine is like a bee...
So maybe the 5793`s extreme case makes a whole lot of difference..hopefully, because I plan to upgrade to it.

Well, the cooling system have been reworked to this model, up from yours. The copperprofile, is a little higher, which means more air can pass through, with the result that the fans wount have to blow that hard, to get the same amount of cooling. Also the bigger the profiles, the less sensative to "spike temps" as a bigger profile whould take longer to heat.

Also as ive written earlier, mine seems to get quiter the longer it stays on, ramping is almost eliminated after a little gaming and the comp has been heated through. Cant tell you why, but in my vid, you also hear that it dosent ramp, but slightly climbs fanspeed as cooling is needed, at the time, it had been on most of the day.

It has a reworked coolingsystem for the "Extreme" CPU's, which is cooling better than the previous ones, but I think it differes depending on the configuration. I guess that if you get it with a penryn T8100-T8300 it would be around the noiselevel that mine is running, might even be slightly less due to the 45 nm processing.

    Doxie:
Damn it :/ The "clock-locking" going on in the .008, does that also affect changing of powerscheme ? So if it clocks down do to unplugging, will clocks raise again afterwards when replugging the power ? :)

    yes the powerscheme still works.
when it autodownclocks, it will up clock itself again, regardless of powermodes.

If u MANUALLY downclock, you wont be able to upclock again unless u restart the system.

Ive no intensions of OC or DC atm, so that I really couldnt care less about for the time being ;)

As long as they will fix it in a future release (fingers crossed) :p

So im off to see if my reseller is able to fix me up with the latest bios ;)

you could compress it with windows movie maker or virtual dub.

Using VirtualDub is quite easy. To create a compressed version of the AVI follow these steps:

    * Start VirtualDub
    * Select File->Open and choose the AVI in the Fraps directory you wish to compress.
    * Select Video->Compression and choose the codec you wish to compress with (usually divx)
    * Select File->Save As AVI and specify a filename for the new AVI.

I just looked at the firmware version of my sager, 1.00.035. I got it Aug 2007. I am really confused on how I can get this fan update to work. I looked on sagers site, and did not find the upgrade. Do I need to E-mail them?

I use WinAVI Video Converter to resize the videos. And it leaves a pretty good quality behind.
So I`m not the only one that sees how loud it is...If you listen carefully, you can hear that altough it`s somewhat less noisy than mine, it still ramps up and down, and the fans are clearly audible.
Hell, even Anantech rated the laptop as being noisier than even the XPS M1730, and can get upto 47 dB ... :(

yeah, i think u pointed out correctly that fanfirmware isnt the solution. The solution is a new fan.

if an sli M1730 is quieter than a single 8800MGTX/7950GTX M57RU, then there is no excuse about- "we cant provide a new quieter fan due to heat issue" or what ever.

As I also said earlier, the ramping im seeing aint the crazy ones. I imagine thoes your talking about, is where it goes to full speed, which i only get once or twice in the first 5 minutes or so until its a little varmed up. But yes, it is audible compared to most other laptops, but I dont think its that bad, compared to the power you get, just look at the AW M15x that overheats like crasy... This one stays cool and well cooled that is, indeed there is room for either slow the fans down, which seems to be a bad idea, as some experiencing troubles with the fans running on low power, or to some running a little lower rpm, which tends to be less noisy then thoes running on high speed or the expensive solution, change to quality fans with good bearings.

But the fan i assume only gets louder while gaming right? ie when the temps go over whatever threshold and the higher rpm kicks in?

Were you using Fn+3 in that vid mez?(the 4min vid)

I mean i hardly think i would be gaming during class... so im only concerned if at its slowest speed the fan makes that level of noise while doing light work(browsing,MS stuff with word etc) ...

But ofc i wouldnt be 100% satisfied until a permanent fix came out... till then i think i will have to make do with 95% ;)

PS - Those numbers are subject to change once i actually lay my hands on it but not by more than 10% either way ;) :D :D

PPS - I also noticed that the sounds were obviously louder when you placed your cam up close to the fans but was o...k.. when you were away from them and this is while gaming.... yep i can live with it :D

Yes, the first 2 minutes shows somewhat how it is in light usage. As you hear, the fans kicks in for good as crysis is begin fired up.

Nope, this is without installing any firmware at all, dont got any fn+1 or fn+3 options.

Tryed to catch the fan ramping, to make it clear how the ramping changed the noise. Remember, it is the noise its making while I keep the cam at distance you should notice, as thats the level that gives the best idea, to how it sounds in real life :)

Well, unfortunately it is bad, it is significantly louder than other comparable notebooks. I had the opportunity to compare the noise with a M1730, and it is much lauder, the 1730 is practically inaudible during browsing.

While the new firmware offers the option of low disk speed, this causes my GPU fan to vibrate slightly and emit a low buzing noise

I haven't personally heard the M1730 or D90x so can't really compare it to thoes :) But what about the size of thoes, aint they quite a lot thicker/bigger than the M57RU? But its sad to hear, that it is much louder than the M1730.

Yes, it is pointing in the direction of new fans, to make this a wonderlappy. Firmware might still be enough for some, so I still got my hopes high until the next firmware version :)

Which was due last week. I`m thinking Sager should really consider a fan upgrade program, I`m sure it`s doable and well worth the cost. For those who use the laptop for other things ,not just gaming, that is.

Hopefully its right around the corner then.

We just have to cross our fingers, that Clevo/Sager/whoever-is-involved will listen to us and will be able to find some higher quality fans that will fit in :) And it wount be way too expensive ofc ;)

I'm helping my friend decide between the NP5793 and the 92?? right now and personally I think the NP5793 would be better because it's smaller and he's just getting the same specs on both. Of course, the only problem right now is that the NP5793 has the fan problems so I'm looking forward to hearing about the new firmware =]

I wonder when it'll come out though, but I hope it comes out soon and at least almost completely fixes the noise problem.

It's not really loud at all...I think just some people want it about as silent as an HP. :D
