JUST CALLED PCMW... cuz i was bored... to ask about 9800 in the 9262 and the 9800 in the EDge....
main points of issue about the EDGE...
"we have a manager who speaks directly with clevo about what we can offer"
"We're not sure about the quad cores that may be removed"
"but it will definitely support the 9800"

    0_0

and if any1 cares about the 9262,
"9800 may be available late quarter 3, early quarter 4"

Well, back wen the bridge was built, they offered citizens of NYC the rights to buy a piece of the bridge in order to help build it.... Somewhere down the line my family did that... but it turns out nobody rele owned a piece... yet nor did they get their money back.... You ironically picked another scam to go with this scam :D

Do tell! I've not heard of the original Brooklyn Bridge securities scam yet - although it wouldn't surprise me in the least. Got any interesting links?

Although there are differences between the cards, that's technically what they're doing with the 9800M GTS. Take the same card, strip out some of its power, and (and this is the important part that just downclocking wouldn't do) MAKE SURE NOBODY CAN BREAK THE THERMAL BUDGET BY OVERCLOCKING IT BACK TO NVIDIA SPECS.

because either way, they will be the first ones to ship out the m860tu with or without the 9800m gtx (without)

Them shipping first is unlikely. It will likely be Sager and maybe Eurocom shipping first. (Eurocom has to ship pcmw the shells and they have to build/test them)

Lol i really doubt they will ship out first now. Even though i canceled my order i called them up today again for the hell of it and they told me that units were on their way from intel right now... and my response was didn't you guys say that a week ago, and then they responded by saying Intel wanted to test the processors a bit more before shipping or something like that..

Like I said, in six months time, we'd all have the laptop (who wanted it that is), the difference would be the service we receive and the cost vs value that was spent. :)

I think Donald said it well in another thread:
Clevo has not released confirmed pricing and no one else is providing any sort of pricing. We will all see a good comparison once Sager releases its pricing around 7/15.

Wow I have been tracking both this thread and the other the main one regarding Clevo M860TU, I like most other users was tempted by the PCMW offer. In the end however I thought it would be best to sit back and watch how other resellers will price it.
I usually take to the thinking if it sounds too good to be true it's usually is too good to be true. Plus I dealt with Donald before and was very much satisfied with both product and service.
That was my two cents on the subject anyway on to my question, I remember in the beginning of this thread there was talk about the comparison between the 8800GTX and the 9800GTS, wherein Donald was asking for benchmarks comparing the two. I was just curious did anyone get an answer to that question? Which is better? If no data/numbers are out now, when should one expect it to be available?
I am assuming both support direct x 10 right? (Please excuse this newb question) :)

There aren't any comparisons just as yet. If you want, you can wait a while until people start getting their laptops and then we can run some benchmarks and real life tests. And yes they are both directx10, however, the 9800GTS is directx10.1 capable. Honestly, I think thats a marketing gimmick more than anything else.

And yes, I'd recommend to go with who you know and who you trust. So best for you to hold on a bit before you make a purchase. :)

Thank you for replying, when you say when people get their laptops are you referring to the M860TU or is their another maker releasing the 9800GTS beforehand? I only ask since I plan to order it as soon as its available for preorder.

Both circumstances, keep looking at the news on this site for any professional reviews on the graphics cards which will hopefully come out before the actual laptops with the cards in them do. Then, you can take a look at user reviews, which I tend to listen to more (as they are not handed a big wad of cash to give a good review).

However, as you want to take the pre order route, you will only have availability of the professional reviews. However, you can always call your retailer when they get the 9800GTS and ask them its performance (because they would be testing it out before they put it in any machines for their customers). If you are happy, keep it in. If they feel the 8800GTX is a better buy, and you are dealing with reliable resellers here thank god, ask them to change it to the 8800GTX and charge the difference to the credit card/wire transfer etc.

    no loss, no worries. :)

The point is that it is not known because there is no data yet on the 9800M.

It has only been assumed that one would be better than the other. That is why I asked earlier if anyone had any real data on the comparison, and so far no one has stepped forward with any.

On whether the 9800 is faster than the 8800... I have not found any detailed specs or testing.. but, should we believe Nvida?

That 40% might be an increase between lower end compared cards, not higher specced.
I doubt we`ll see more than 15-20%, or so it would be expected...

Now that we established that, can we play something else?
This thread is getting ridiculousely huge for something that was supose to be a "TAKE IT AS IT IS" kind of thing...
Ok,sager/clevo won`t support the 44w+ parts in the TU. It`s not like it ain`t powerful enough as it is...

here's what john shore has to say:
NVIDIA is currently working on reducing the thermal spec’s of 9800GTX so we can use it on M860TU; initially we will ship the M860TU with the 8800GTX, Ati M88 and 9800GT

    Thank You

Just the thermal specs, meaning power requirements.
So no performance should be affected, theoretically.
