Actually, I've been hearing from internal sources that the new set of ATI cards are supposed to demolish the 8 and 9 series cards from Nvidia. However, I've also heard Nvidia is holding back, to see what ATI is doing, so they can deal some damage later on themselves.
But the consumer wins at the end of the day, the prices of the top of the line NVidia cards are set to decrease because of this development.
What do I think about all this? Well, I'm pretty excited after hearing those increase in scores with the 'basic' 8800m GTX. Sounds to me like a match made in heaven.![]()

perhaps we should wait for the OTHER card optins comming out. they may surp;rise you. the wait will be worth it. Just wait for the official release. -
I just got answered by PCMW:
----
Hi T,
We will still offer the 9800 card; however, due to pressure from NVIDIA and the recent news of a higher end ATI card, we have removed the card offering temporarily. We will be keeping all current users posted with updated information regarding the updated ATI card offering and performance / benchmark results when we have them so you can make the best possible decision prior to the shipment of your notebooks. We are still guaranteeing priority shipment and the lowest price for all pre-orders and will match or beat any pricing from competitors if a similar configuration is offered for less than ours within 3 months. Thank you for your patience, we know you are excited to get your new laptop!
Thank You,
PC MicroWorks Sales Team

hell I'm excited -
before this they said that they were not recieving any troubles from nvidia or intel for what they are doing. -
i wish we could see laptops with the new ati cards already to know for sure..
-
I`m a little behind schedule, when is the ATI card supose to show up ? (the 3870)
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
There is no real ETA yet...ATi is still working on it.
-
That makes ATI FOS for all I care.
Nvidia still dominates. -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
I agree.
They are touting their newest card (M98) to have 3DMark06 scores in the 15xxx range...but they haven't even developed it enough to test it. In reality that is an engineering "goal" that has yet to be achieved...therefore it is nothing more than marketing hype.
Anyone broadcasting that hype should identify it as such for those that have not been around long enough to know the difference between hype and reality...and that in this business there is a lot of that hype thing going on. -
wow, pcmw told me they had an ES model of this new card. I guess its another lie with paladins info in mind.
-
as much as i hate to say it since im a supporter and consumer of PCMW... yes, they're pulling your leg. It's their sales department job to say watever it takes to keep people buying from them. And leaving you feeling confident that PCMW will have the next-gen watever before every1 else. And the word "wait" has been used too many times in the last few posts. Wait and see wat happens? THis is a technology forum. You wait for the 9800s... and wen thats out you say.. MAYBE i should wait a LIL more for the mobile 280s... then thats out and you say.. MAYBE i should wait.................

Please see my post in the "Edge" thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=3540817&postcount=216 -
Didnt gophn say that m860's were stateside?
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
Gophn was mistaken. Please click on the link just above your post and read that.
-
I did, thats what i was writing in response to, i was just wondering if he was mistaken or not.
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
Yes, and in that post he edited in later that he could not confirm his comment that production models had entered the US.
In fact, they have not. -

The ATi HD3870 (M88) is currently in testing...but there is no firm ETA for its release, nor has it been determined yet whether it will offered in the Clevo M860TU.
The next ATi offering is the M98 which is not even in testing yet, notwithstanding the claims of its 3DMark06 scores. -

Donald do you think that we will see the M98 in either the m570TU or the m860TU and how do you think, of course out of speculation, it will compare to nvidias new 9800M GTX?
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
auburncoast, it is just too early to tell.
Speculation says that if it is to be used at all it is far more likely to be in the M570TU and not at all likely to be in the M860TU, and that is only IF the performance measures up to ATi's brags...which at this point is still in doubt. -

okay, thanks. I've always liked nvidia better anyways for some reason. unfortunately when my dell desktop got replaced they replaced my 6800GT with an ATI 2600 XT. kinda good kinda bad. I'm now leaning more towards the m570TU because I won't have to worry about heating issues as much, plus a bigger screen!
-
I mean, Im sure you are right but it's just a matter of making a call to them an cancel our orders and maybe placing an order with you,,,, its just about that.... and maybe the units wont be shipping on 7/15 maybe they will ship on august but I will happy if the comes with what I order and without an issues -
Yeah, I didn't order for a ship date or a 9800GTX it was for price. Which, whether you tag it as made up or whatever, is only $2054 shipped for the configuration in my sig. If Sager comes with a better price then good. I can either cancel or have the difference returned by PCMW.
-
I really don't see why everyone is fretting either. If you preordered, you are safe. But right now, if you haven't ordered, there is no reason not to wait for the Sager 8660.
But for all those who made the memorial or $400 weekend sale, we are good to go. -
Just a little opinion of mine. It's not about the money, but the creditability of a company. Before I bought the 5793, I sent dozens of emails to Eurcom regarding m860tu ETA, of course, not only I received whole bunch of BS as returned, but also wasted 2 months worth of waiting. As a result I went to xoticPC, although I spent extra money on something I don't need, like BT, webcam and 4965 wifi, at least they don't deceive their potential customers.
-
I don`t know what game PCMW is playing , but honestly, the things they claim should`ve stopped a long time ago.
-
I'd agree with nirvana and eleron911 - from what I've seen around the forum, PCMW seems to be pretty good in the after-sales service end, but to me all that comes to naught if you don't know whether or not you're going to be able to buy what you thought you could. While companies stand or fall on many things, one of the principal ones is their word.
-
they lie....... they also have not given back my money. if its not here by tonight (a week and a half since i requested refund) things are not going to by very pleasant on the phone or emails. -
You don't want to end up as an unsecured creditor in any sort of messy scenario.
I'd be thinking about taking it up with your credit card company directly too.

Has anyone realized that in fact it doesnt state 9800MGTX but it says 9800M GT on the PCMWs website?
-
Long time brother. Long time.
The 9800m GTX is not ready to go into the EDGE yet.
The 9800m GT is going to go in there, no problems. -
Kaiser, they USED to say 9800GTX. They took it down when Nvidia caught them advertising before release/after they took a coupla hundred orders of a machine that cant be built...

Anyone want to start PO'ing them?
Sager has confirmed with Clevo that the M860TU will not support 44W+ processors or the 9800M GTX because of the thermal budget!
