I really dont think there will be anything to worry about as far as overheating with what you CAN purchase. Sager and Clevo seem to pay far too much attention to proper cooling. The only suprise i could see them having is that something isnt supported because it makes too much heat. Other than that, im fairly confident that anything you can buy on tues will work great.
-
Are the people at sager the first people who will be doing testing with the unit?
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
Yes, they currently have the only evaluation unit.
-
papadin, 9600M GS also available in 860? I saw it in a unknown page.
-
-
So should be expect an early review on the unit by tuesday or soon after? -
(can't stop laughing) -

WOW. I just got some fun info.
Well from the horses mouth (thats funny because he has a horse for his Avatar you know) here we have it, not the 9800GTX but the 9800GT will be supported.
It will probably be taken down as soon as he reads this so follow the link quickly, to see the yet to be published specs on Powernotebooks NP8660.
http://powernotebooks.com/specs/Sager/8660specs.php
I would post it all here and put up a copy elsewhere but that would be a copyright violation, so you got to get while the getting is good. I saved a copy for myself of course.
I also found where Xotics page will be, but they are yet to upload the specs, I suppose they are waiting to closer to the time of the official release. -
so there will be a 9800m GT?! I am excited.
-
is gt better than gts?
-
What do you guys think will be the best GPU?
(rating it from 1-10, 10 being the best and 1 being the worst)
ATi Mobility Radeon HD3870 w/512MB
nVIDIA GeForce 9800M GT w/512MB
nVIDIA GeForce 9800M GTS w/512MB
I hope they'll come up with the mobile version of the HD4850 as well! -
Here are the nVIDIA pages for the 9800MGT, 9800MGTS, 9800MGTX
They were taken down by nVIDIA already, but these are the google cache pages
GT: http://209.85.165.104/search?q=cach...eforce_9800m_gt.html&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=3&gl=us
GTS: http://209.85.165.104/search?q=cach...force_9800m_gts.html&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=1&gl=us
GTX: http://209.85.165.104/search?q=cach...force_9800m_gtx.html&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=4&gl=us
According to this the GT should be the 8 and the GTS the 7 -
Hmm so no 8800mgtx in this laptop? I guess if the 9800gt is better than the 8800mgtx then there would be no need.
-
-
I'm guessing that Sager has decided not to offer the 8800m GTX in it for now, either that or PN decided it for themselves, or thirdly, the specs page that I found is not correct and up to date.
But either way, Clevo has published the specs on their site for the M860TU and they include the 8800m GTX.
As far as performance is concerned the 8800m GTX has 96 stream processor cores as opposed to the 9800m GT's 64.
EDITED:
The 8800m GTX and the 9800m GT have the same theoretical shader processing rate of 360 gigaflops. -
If it doesn't offer the 8800m it will probably be a deal breaker for some
-
Additionally, searching the forums I think that the 8800M GTX is supposed to be 360 gigaflops, so the 9800M GTX is a minor upgrade.
The 9 series is supposed to have 2nd gen. unified shaders that performed 40 or 50% better (or something like that) than the first generation, so if that's true, then the 64 stream processors would be approximately equivalent to 96. Under that logic and ignoring all other factors and comparing the 9800M GT and 8800M GTX in terms of gigaflops, it makes sense that they would be approximately equal.
Still all speculation until we see some benchmarks tho -
I think greyreap made a mistake, it's the desktop 8800 GTX process at 518 gigaflops, mobile 8800m GTX has 360 gigaflops.
-
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GeForce_8_Series#GeForce_8800M_Series, the 8800mgtx has 360 gigaflops.
-
-
Something about the gts and the gt specs doesn't make sense. According to the links you provided, they both use the same amount SP's. >.> that would mean that the gt is nothing but a overclocked gts. Which is hard to believe that they would do that. So perhaps the specs are are wrong, and the gt really has 98sp's. Which would make more sense, because so far I haven't seen any new graphics cards using 98sps' it jumps from 48 to 64 to 112.
-
The PN NP8660 spec page has been taken down, but to brief the important issues, it stated that the available gpu's will be the following:
ATi Mobility Radeon HD3870 w/512MB
nVIDIA GeForce 9800M GT w/512MB
nVIDIA GeForce 9800M GTS w/512MB
and those were the only ones listed on that page. -
^^oh no, someone is getting fire at PNB.
-
wait, so the 8800gtx will also not be supported? (like the 9900gtx)
that was..unexpected.
is the 9900gts better than the 8800gtx...or still no solid evidence/benchmarks? -
We dont know anything that might have been old and outdated. We will know for sure on tuesday
-
Well, before someone told on the friggin' manufacturer of the thing (like they don't have a right to post it whenever they want) Clevo did have the specs up for the M860TU and contrary to what PNB had posted it was shown to support thr 8800m GTX and the 9800m GTS, and that was it.
So who knows what Sager is pulling, but the 8800m GTX is supported. -

You know greyreap, you are a real dichotomy. Sometimes you post like an intelligent adult, and other times you post like a spoiled and bitter child who can't express themself without using swear words (even in your signature) and blaming others for anything that doesn't seem to please you.
The bottom line is that any specifications that are published by Clevo or anyone prior to the actual release of the final production product are always subject to change, and they often do. Experience will teach you this.
Finally, keep in mind that here in the good old USA we are all free to say and write whatever we want to, and then the listener or reader can judge the credibility of the speaker/writer. Given enough time every person seems to end up showing their true colors. I love free speech -
Speaking of old and outdated websites (e.g. Google-cached ones), going by the nVIDIA site for the 9800M GTS, the 8800M GTS and that model are identically powered (same amount of gigaflops).
So, I am tending to agree with bwhxeon: perhaps the specs were wrong when nVIDIA prematurely posted them on its site.
Does anyone know when the specs for these cards will become available for real? Will nVIDIA and ATi release information tomorrow concomitantly with Intel's official launch of Montevina? I would hope that, if Xotic PC and PowerNotebooks are able to offer a card, they would be able to divulge the specifications of that product as well (so Tuesday we could know).
To rehash what greyreap asked earlier about ranking those graphic card offerings based on speculation, what do you think would perform best. More specifically, do you think that the ATi offering would approximately perform as well (framerate-wise, not 3DMark-wise) as the 8800M GTX? Are ATi cards generally more well-known for performing well in specific types of games (more physics- or units-heavy vs. lots of textures to render)?
If none of the offerings are at least as powerful as the 8800M GTX I might again consider the 5796 instead.
This wait is really painful. -
I apologize for the hostility, I don't consider friggin' to be a swear word, but I did obviously show some hostility in my post. Actually I choose not to use profanity in my vocabulary at nearly all times (there is always that one exception that an argument might bring out).
As for my signature, I think its nice. It is an honest challenge that I would like to see met. Though I have argued on my own behalf regarding my purchase with PCMW, I would much rather buy at the same price from a more established company with a clearly respectable history. That is not because PCMW posted incorrect specs, they accepted my order early, or even that the likely sole shareholder had a business before that failed (thats business), but because there is a $73000 delinquency debt that is hanging over the head of the likely primary shareholder. So if Xotic can meet it I'll be buying from them.
As for the subject of the M860TU, I was aggravated that someone would be so offended by the fact that Clevo had posted the specs of the product that they designed, built, and are making available for companies like Sager, Eurocom, and all the rest to bring to market, that they would feel they had the authority to contact them and tell them they should take it down. That is why I sounded hostile.
Other than that, you liked how I found the specs didn't you.
It was actually way to easy, at least with Xotic I had to do some digging and guessing, plus they didn't have anything published other than a placeholder.
I have alot of fun here on NBR, looking forward to Tuesday. -

Why in the world would you assume that anyone would contact Clevo in Taiwan and suggest that they take that page down? Worse, why in the world would you assume that anyone would even have the persuasive power to get them to do it?
In all probability that is just as bad of an assumption as your earlier one about credit card agreements as they affect cash discounts. Just because you jump to erroneous conclusions and run off to report what you mistakenly think is improper behavior on the part of PowerNotebooks.com (even though there are thousands that quite properly do the same thing in offering cash discounts) does not mean that others are eager to behave the same way...but it does explain why you might think that way.
Gloating is also unattractive, but then it is certainly your right to show your colors in any way that you choose. -
You're right the gloating was unnecessary. I apologize for that too. -
taiwan is 12 hours ahead of us. so it's now 10:27am. The operating hour of clevo is 09:00-18:00, monday through friday. You think they took the page off within the first hour company opened just because some people reported it? Even Intel can't act that quick.
Just my $0.02 -
probably or they put it on by accident

However resorting to the use of a word in your signature to describe a laptop with which you are not pleased that the dictionary describes as a "Vulgar" noun and defines as "excrement" or "an act of defecation" indicates either a less than civil mind, or a lazy one. There are certainly better ways to express yourself in a public forum, unless you want the reader to believe that you have either a lazy or less than civil mind, or that you are just inconsiderate of the reader. -
Cant imagine what the forum will be like tomorrow and the final hours before release on Tuesday.
-
But I'm certain that it will be quickly forgotten once I have my M860TU. -

DRTH_STI, your comment is quite disingenuous considering several of your posts. As a courtesy to you I won't dredge them up here again, but you sir are certainly not one to criticize about belittling given your rather long history of doing the same.
Further, in no way do I consider my comments anything other than telling the truth. -
who need some? -
Still no need to publicly belittle the dude bro. I'm just talking as friends to you man, doing you a favor cuz I don't want to see you lose any of that public figure respect. Just be nice to the dude. -
Almost there dudes.
In a few days, somebody will also have to pull out a review -
The sooner the better, for all of us.

I guess.
I'm not directly interested, I am a 17incher fan.Always will be.
But I am extremely curious of how 1 fan can cool both a fast CPU and the fastest mobile GPU... -
edit: just read the rest and i think you should lay off greyheap too. he did say sorry.
From what we know about his fiery personality, I bet that was hard to do. we should respect him for that -
uhh.. so am i reading this right, or so far from what we know:
1) Sagar is not offering m8800gtx
2) m9800gt is better than m9800gts
3) m9800gt is on par/slightly less or more powerful than m8800gtx
today the nda cleared up right -

So if I were to order the M860TU tomorrow, Tuesday the 15th, when do you think I would receive it?
Sager has confirmed with Clevo that the M860TU will not support 44W+ processors or the 9800M GTX because of the thermal budget!
