Sager has confirmed with Clevo that the M860TU will not support 44W+ processors or the 9800M GTX because of the thermal budget!

I wonder if the 9800M GTX will fit the thermal budget of M750RU-U without downclocking through the BIOS and no chassis revision. Especially when in a lappy already with Xtreme processores.

15" lappies IMHO were never supposed to get high end of the latest tech due to thermal conditions. If you think about it, usually the first ones to get it are the BIG & FAT lappies that have more flexible thermal habilities. Once tech manufacturing processes improve and thermal conditions are lowered then 15" get what they can get.

I suspect thet 15" lappies will get the 9800M GTX, but not for now. This is rev 1 for you ladies & gents (maybe more heatpipes will dot it).

I guess I missed something of the last posts, can it support the P9500 then? There should be no problem for that.

Also the FSB should be 1066 MHz ... or not?

It is indeed true. We have been informed with the same identical information Donald has posted. :)

Heliosvector - Zfactor is right on. It is under NDA. You can be assured when Sager confirms information such as this it is accurate and from a credible source.

since your here though Justin, did you get any news on the 570ru refresh (570tu) like if it will be out when the M860tu will come out?

if its the same weight as the current model and hopefull has a quieter fan system then i think i will get that instead as long as PCMW give me my refund back easily.

^^ That is correct. We expect to see both machines about he same time. (That is once Montevina is released)

The 570TU should be the same as the current 5793 in physical appearance (with exception of the newly added ESATA and HDMI Ports) :)

We dont have any confirmed info at this point if the cooling system will be revised.

I can tell you. An article appeared in The Inquirer which stated that the QX9300 had moved to a 35W platform, but that claim is dubious at best. No evidence to back it up and it was kinda mentioned in an off-handed way -- not the way to mention such a new development. Plus The Inquirer is known to satirize as well, so it could all just be a joke.

I know how many people on here think that PCMW can "just" stick the 9800m gtx in there like many resellers did with quad cores on the d901c, but the problem is, if Clevo doesn't support it, that means no Bios support and *they* need to write the vbios to have it interact correctly with the motherboard, and that is something simply beyond any person or reseller :D

I am one of them.If there is a BIOS for 8800GTX and the 9800GTX is similar,I dnt think it's not very hard.

BTW there should be desktop BIOS from Nvidia atleast to start on.My assumptions.

Don't cancell you order yet Auburncoast. No ones sure what's really happening here. Juts wait to get officially arguments from Clevo.

Is the QX9300 45W or 35W?, if the 9800M GTX run cooler than 8800M GTX why M860TU wont support it?, and many more questions CANT be answered now. Just wait a few more days

well, so far from PCMW they have not recieved information as far as the customer service rep is concerned. I also asked who they got the confirmation that the EDGE would support the 9800GTX from and he couldn't say who because he wasn't sure... of course. He said that he was sure the management was in touch with someone at clevo and they would have an announcment soon but it all sounded very uncertain.

It was me, and that was my point. The Inquirer was saying the quadcores would be 35W as opposed to 45W, meaning that if The Inquirer is wrong then the 860 won't be sporting any quadcores

Read the whole thread now, and I have to say,no offence to anyone,be it reseller or customer, the 860TU is nothing but another m15x ,but under the Clevo badge.
Honestly, this laptop started off with many promises or "subtle" ones at least, and in one night, what made it the best 15 incher at the moment went down the drain.
And I do need a firm answer, none of that "we`ll see" answers I seem to get all around.
The 579x is useless to me unless it`ll support the 9800M GTX.
If you don`t have a firm answer, don`t post it.

the M860TU has a number of features that differentiates itself from the M15x:
    - Montevina platform
    - 45nm Penryn CPUs
    - up to 8GB DDR3
    - CHEAPER !!!

I doubt that will translate into better performance, but its different... and its "bang for the buck" over the M15x

Another thing I have been inquiring is if the notebook can handle a 98xxM card with the fans toggled to max speed. It seems to be on the border with that.

there is little overall performance difference... especially in gaming.

most systems do not even full utilize 4GBs... let alone 8GB
(only 2D/3D pro workstations would use that much memory)

but the CPUs can have a slight performance difference.

but i thought the reason systems don't support the full 4gb is because all laptop OS are 32 bit, until now with the 64 bit on the M860TU. My order is in for a m15. the 8gb ram was almost enough to draw me away, but with little performance increase for gaming, i think i'll wait it out and roll the dice for the m15x lottery

Supporting 4GB+ and Utilizing are different.

Supporting is low level compatibility to the motherboard, then its on the software to support it (like x64 OS)

Utilizing means to make use of that much memory for caching and paging. Most current computers will not even notice a difference (in day to day performance) from 2GB to 4GB because most current games and apps do not need that much memory. Only 2D/3D media rendering/editing will require a lot of memory.
