Do somebody have info about the overclocking possibility of W860CU ?
-
The CPU self overclocks depending on the number of cores in use. -
Justin@XoticPC Company Representative
Here is a link on Intel's Turbo Boost Technology that v_c mentioned above where the GHz speeds increases depending on the number or cores in use.

Would make it about 1850E inc. shipping. Hmmm, maybe it's better if I'll just take a M860.. -
I know the Turbo Boost technology, but it's not interesting for overclockers, I would like to deactivate to be able to test the real overclocking potential of these Core i7.
The new i5 750 was so impressive that I hope a lot from them, Nehalem is usually a great deal for o/c ers ^^ -

I'll sleep over it, but until now it's a dream coming true...
How much is usefull the Dead Pixel Warranty??? -
Neil, I see that you offer 1 year warranty, but EU laws have granted to consumers a two years legal warrany. Why doesn't it appear on your website ? Oo
Sorry to be annoying but I prefer being well protected for a purchase of this amount =) -
-
Still, I think I will at least wait to see some benchmarks of the laptop and specifically the i7 CPU's.
-
Great prices Neil!!!! Cheaper than mySN even with a 280GTX!!!
-
-
Isn´t the W870CU supposed to be released one month from now? Just checking this because mySN seem to already have it.
-
Which CPU would you take for the M860?? -
Did I misunderstand ? -
To be honest, I haven't done much research between the difference of the T9600 (2 cores @ 2.8ghz) and the Q9000 (4 cores @ 2.0ghz) in Photoshop. I don't know all that much about the Q9000. But I would be leaning more towards the T9600, and 820 turbo boosts to the same frequency as the T9600 when using only 2 cores. But still has the flexibility of a quad core as well, that's what makes it so tempting.
@v_c: Actually, that was already post-changes. The only price that didn't change before the update was the price below in the configurator it self. When checking out, they CPU price was already corrected. So the specs I posted with that price are correct. You are right about the cashback though, didn't take that one in account.
Still, I'm going to sleep a night over this. No need to rush it. I am only a student, so I have to becareful with making expensive choices like this.
-
You just saved me 75 pounds xD
I hope Neil will reply quickly to my question about legal warranty so I can make my order =D -
I'm a student/programmer, so I would love a Quad Core able to work great even with Single Core or Dual Core applications... -
It's the case with the Turbo Boost tech, it has been created especially created for it (auto o/c when less core are used)
P.S. I'm also a programming student =) (computer science to be exact) -

To answer both your q's Cafine:
The 2 year warranty is part of an EU directive, it's not a law in its own right and is only applicable in EU member states that choose to sign up to it which is why rcompanies in countries like Denmark,Finland and Germany have to (by law because their counrty sighed up to the directive) offer a minimum 2 year warranty.
The £75 cashback is refunded to the card or bank account the payment for the laptop originated.
Here some reviews and more information on the new CPUs following on from Justin's post earlier:

Sorry, but this is what we can read on your government site :
I'm not against you, I'm just a student-consumer that want to have the best from his hard-earned money
This a communication of EU about the application of Directive 1999/44/EC (because yes, it's a law, applicable to all EU members, the only difference between law and directive is that a directive fixes a goal and give the countries some delay to modify national laws) : http://ec.europa.eu/consumers/cons_int/safe_shop/guarantees/CSD_2007_EN_final.pdf

The problem with all EU Directives and law is that they are all very misleading and complicated - makes our lives as an EU trading company increasingly complicated:-( They also have a habit of changing law and creating new ones to try and increase EU law harmony which keeps undermining our perfectly good UK laws but that's a different story!!!!
You are correct in that the Directive is EU Law and it is applicable to UK law however nothing new has been created in relation to this because the Sale Of Goods Act already offers 6 years of consumer protection. Unfortunately, as per usual with all EU Directives and legislation, it's all very missleading.
What it is refering to is very different to a manufacturer warranty and covers terms like "fit for use" over a longer minimum period. It is talking about consumer rights, it does not mean that manufacturers have to offer a 2 year minimum warranty - the manufacturer warranty is completely seperate to consumer rights. They do overlap but they aren't dependant on each other if that makes sense. For example the Distance Selling Act overlaps with Sale Of Goods act but they cover different circumstances, the DSA is also more concerned with consumer protection which is what the EU directive is concerned with. -
Cafeine, based on the information you supplied, there is a distinction between the "guarantee" - which pertains to the "conformity of goods" - and the actual warranty offered by a vendor, such as Kobalt.
i.e. "The use of the term ‘guarantee’ can be somewhat misleading as many consumers relate this to manufacturers/ retailers guarantees on goods"
As Neil mentioned, some EU nations have adopted legislation which may directly influence the nature of the warranties offered (i.e. mandatory 2 year minimum, specific legal wording, specifying which language(s) may be used), but the information you gave merely states that the EU directive was essentially already a subset of UK legislation dating back to 1979 (the 6 year statutory limitation).
In short, from the info given, it doesn't appear that the actual warranties offered in the UK have, at present, been directly affected by the EU directive. What "conformity of goods" means for you should your one year warranty have lapsed and you have a problem is - based on the info given - unstated.
Note, I did not read the full pdf - perhaps it's more clearly articulated in there.
edit - Neil already responded. -
I have ordered mine people, waiting will be more than difficult because I'm so excited to be able to touch it =D
Oh and don't hesitate for kobalt, their prices are awesome and their service seems very good ^^ -

Neil@Kobalt, if you have the time, can you answer me the following 2 questions ?:
- Do you have an ETA for the dutch/french AZERTY keyboards ? (I realy need an AZERTY one ^^)
- I noticed that there is no option to place an Intel Turbo Cache memory of 2/4 gb, is there a reason for this ? (I want a 4 gb one in my system ^^)
/Prophex -
Neil@Kobalt Company Representative
RE Turbo Memory, the Capella platform doesn't support it so it's not conpatible with the 860CU or 870CU. It will support Braidwood which is Intel's replacement for Robson but the last I heard it's been delayed. Unless Braidwood turns out to be much netter than Robson I wouldn't bother to be honest - we didn't sell many Robson modules because all the feedback was that it made pretty much no dofference to 99% of users! -
PS: If you want to avoid the forum, I can always start mailing you in person, if you prefer. -
I'm just waiting for a price with an Intel SSD, I will order as soon as I receive the offer if it's interesting =D (wich I'm sure it will =p) -
Huh, how come it says: shipping 50 pounds at Kobalt for you guys? It says I have to pay 90 pounds. I live in the Netherlands, but even if I choose Belgium, it says 90 pounds. That's nearly twice as much. That's just weird.

That's strange Oo
Indeed for me it's obviously 50 pounds for the slowest ! -
Neil@Kobalt Company Representative
If you just choose the cheaper option it ships next day to the whole of Europe. We use TNT now but the website still says DHL so please ignore the more expensive option. In case anyone has ordered with the more expensive one I'll get the sales guys to check and refund the difference.
I'll get it changed asap tomorrow but as far as any orders go the £20 UK shipping and £50 Europe shipping are both next day delivery -
Well it's not the 'more expensive' option I chose, it was just the basic option 90 pounds. The more expensive option is 150 pounds. I can't select any option that gives me 50 pounds like other people do. Anyway, if the shipping is really 50 pounds, and I might be able to get a tax refund at the end of the year because I am a student...this laptop does get really interesting after all.
Anyway, any updates on the battery times, or are they still unknown? -
Neil@Kobalt Company Representative
All sorted now, TNT 1-2 working days £60 for most of Europe. There's nothing that will make it £150 unless you are outside of Europe.
-
hi neil, just wana ask, is there fingerprint sensor on the kobalt G860? doesnt say on your specifications site, but it looks like it's present in the pictures. and also, the power adaptor listed on the additional AC adaptor is stated as 220W, so i would assume the G860 comes with a standard 220W power adaptor. but i've seen some info posted here that the AC is rated at 120W. which is correct? and finally UK delivery has been updated to TNT but the delivery price options are still more than 20 Pounds. thank you.

Just noticed that Pro-Star is only shipping with the 1080p LED.
