I'd actually like it because theres no space for particles to fall underneath and driving me nuts.

I'm feeling the opposite. My old Asus had a standard board, and my current one has a chiclet style. I wouldn't go back.
-
The sxps16 has that style keyboard with individual keys and it was a real pleasure to type on.
Is that screen 16:9?
I wont be selling my current machine for it but it is a very nice looking machine. -

Damn, 12 hours per day? Where do you live? Forge's house?
-
SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
Hey, where did you get that idea?

Can you touch type?
-
SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
I could touch type yo' momma.

I'd say those are the perfect conditions to practice touch typing. I've memorized my entire keyboard, including the Fn keys. I think high adrenalin games like CS:S that requires fast typing under pressure have trained me to type, and aim, better. You should play sometime.

I hope it has some sensible resolution choices. 1920x1080 is a given for the 'high-res' option, but I hope there is a good medium-res option also, eg 1600x900.
Too many of these 15.6" laptops only have 1366x768 as the lower option, which is a very stupid res imo.
I also hope that they improve the screen quality, especially in the area of black levels and contrast. I guess one positive point about 16:9 is that they can't use some old generation panel from several years ago. -
Would Clevo dare use a peasant resolution such as 1366x768? I'll bet that 1600x900 will be the standard res.
-
The light that comes from the screen onto the keyboard is good enough for me in darm enviroments. I need no backlit keyboard
For the screen I just hope they offer a matte option. Oh yeah... Im also getting worried about battery life. -
Looks like a really sweet machine
-
Standard would be 1366x768.....Maybe they will change it later in final release.
1000 posts.

I doubt that Clevo will offer 1366x768 as an option. Clevo listed 1280x800 as an an available resolution for the M860TU and M570TU, but never pulled through with selling it.
-
All depends on reseller, if they want clevo can offer them.
-
-
I quite like the 16:9 ratio ( my old notebook sxps used it) but since going back to 16:10 i prefer it these days. -
Where are the speakers? Are they the little oval-shaped things above the keyboard?
-
SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
Those oval things actually use telepathy to transmit sound into your brain.
-
Wow, silly me, I thought they were power buttons or something.
-
Just thinking about the two heatsinks. Now obviously this is a good idea considering TDP required for the mobile i7s, I should imagine that even if Clevo says "no, don't install them," to a Core i7-920XM, they would run quite well. However don't you think this will add some serious weight to an already (quite) heavy 15" notebook?
-
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
Yes, it will make the W860CU weigh like my M570TU when I first got it.
-
SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
At least it wouldn't weigh near as much as your M570 now.
-
I've just seen the GTX 285M is coming along...
The W870CU with the new Calpella and GTX 285M would be really nice.
But then again... they will only start shipping at earliest in late October... -
-
-
Hold your horses people. These machines are a couple of months of yet and yet your all already melting at the prospect of having one like you've been waiting a week for your order.
No confirmation dates yet. Earliest predictions could range from end of October to the start of 2010 though I personally believe that as soon as a new Intel range is released that Clevo will want to be right at the front of the line with orders when it happens. That's how it has tended to be. -
So far so good!
Looks like CLEVO has another winner on there hands, great just what I need more laptop envy
The thing I don't see is the W860CU performing significantly better than a M860ETU even with the new i7 core CPU's.
Stick in a QX9300 in a M860ETU and you get the same thing basically, just without the updated look and new cooling with the 2 fans.
Is it just me or does the back end look really thick.(Could be the scooped out keyboard that makes it look that way)
I still wan't one -
The real upgrade IMO, is going to be February 2010. Arrandel FTW! -
I hope they use good screens on this. Like really good, class-leading screens with awesome brightness, contrast, etc
I don't think I would buy it otherwise. -
I think someone on the list has already stated that they are LED back-lit.
The backside of this laptop looks no bigger than the M860 imo either.
Of course you could wait for Arrandale, but what the hey, why not wait for the platform after that too? -
There is a difference between waiting 6 months and 2 years
.
-
Come off it, it won't be two years after that. A year max but hey why wait six months even?
Admittidly the 620M looks worth holding off for... -
Yeah, the M86 looks decent next to the W86.... until the latter recieves the next generation of GPUs and the better i7s are added to the SKU.
Let's not fool ourselves. -
When the GTX 380M rolls out it will be hard to not sell my system... unless they release an MXM 2.1 variant
-
I feel you. I'm already prospecting an upgrade myself. I'm needing that MXM 3.0b slot to be comfortable for the next few years.
-
I know I'd be perfectly content living with my laptop and upgrading it for the next few years. Windows 7, 160GB Intel SSD, WUXGA screen, Blu Ray, etc. But I can't help but want the latest tech whenever it rolls out... it's some kind of addiction, and it's not a cheap one
-
I feel you anothergeek, I have it as well, but I keep saying to myself... it could be worse... like drugs or alcohol.
)
Anyway, I've noticed that a generally noticeable leap in tech is about once every 2 years, with about one more year after that for the tech to mature. Of course this is a not set rule, but this is more or less the trend.
So I guess that starting autumn 2010 I will start looking for a new notebook.
-
I would suspect we'll be looking at gen 2, 32nm mobile i7 and of course DX11 capable GT300/RV870 by then. It would be a good time to upgrade. These chassis Clevo are rolling out will be the same for a least 2 years, so it would make sense to get one on the beginning trend, knowingly having a guaranteed upgrade path. The one that confuses me is the M980, as many problems as it has had and the time it has taken to get it on the market, they could have just waited for mobile i7 to be ready. I'm sure it will be fitted with the new motherboard by the end of the year though, hah.. I suspect that's why they abandoned the 9400M, so when they ditch the Nvidia chipset they can't be called out on missing features.

Interesting. I have the opposite philosophy. I buy a notebook at it's EOL and enjoy it for three happy years.
-
What I like about the M570 is that it's a legendary design. For over 2 years now, it's been revised and upgraded, but it hasn't changed in design. It survived changing chipsets (Merom, Santa Rosa, and Montevina), it reached the fabled quad core era, it's come from the 7950 GTX to the GTX 280M, it's been around a while...

-
G92b and Penryn QC are fine performers and at present are still the best notebook tech released. I can live with this one -

anothergeek, Forge. Both of you have brought a tear to my eye. For all of us that hold the high level of care, love, respect, and responsibility for our Clevo's, I thank you. I really do. -
I just got an NP8662 last month or more.....
I hope I don't end up regretting not waiting a little longer... -
a 302 cobra ready for an attack ??? !!!
we are goners ...
