But at least with the traditional style keyboard there is something to hit. I had to type on a new Sony Vaio a couple of months back and I found it slower and much less comfortable than a traditional laptop keyboard. Maybe its just me but I have never liked that style

I'm feeling the opposite. My old Asus had a standard board, and my current one has a chiclet style. I wouldn't go back.

Well your right real men dont but im not a real man, i live in a area with 12+hrs per day power cuts and backlit keyboard is rather enjoyable.
The sxps16 has that style keyboard with individual keys and it was a real pleasure to type on.
    Is that screen 16:9?
I wont be selling my current machine for it but it is a very nice looking machine.

Rural india mate, usually we get power from 7pm until 10pm then again around 11:30pm until 5am then again from 6am until 10am thats on good day it can be worse......alot worse......so a backlit keyboard has its benefits.

I'd say those are the perfect conditions to practice touch typing. I've memorized my entire keyboard, including the Fn keys. I think high adrenalin games like CS:S that requires fast typing under pressure have trained me to type, and aim, better. You should play sometime.

I hope it has some sensible resolution choices. 1920x1080 is a given for the 'high-res' option, but I hope there is a good medium-res option also, eg 1600x900.

Too many of these 15.6" laptops only have 1366x768 as the lower option, which is a very stupid res imo.

I also hope that they improve the screen quality, especially in the area of black levels and contrast. I guess one positive point about 16:9 is that they can't use some old generation panel from several years ago.

Would Clevo dare use a peasant resolution such as 1366x768? I'll bet that 1600x900 will be the standard res.

The light that comes from the screen onto the keyboard is good enough for me in darm enviroments. I need no backlit keyboard :p

For the screen I just hope they offer a matte option. Oh yeah... Im also getting worried about battery life.

I doubt that Clevo will offer 1366x768 as an option. Clevo listed 1280x800 as an an available resolution for the M860TU and M570TU, but never pulled through with selling it.

Well when in powersaver mode i get over two hours which helps and i only game when i have power and free time,
I quite like the 16:9 ratio ( my old notebook sxps used it) but since going back to 16:10 i prefer it these days.

Just thinking about the two heatsinks. Now obviously this is a good idea considering TDP required for the mobile i7s, I should imagine that even if Clevo says "no, don't install them," to a Core i7-920XM, they would run quite well. However don't you think this will add some serious weight to an already (quite) heavy 15" notebook?

I've just seen the GTX 285M is coming along...

The W870CU with the new Calpella and GTX 285M would be really nice.

But then again... they will only start shipping at earliest in late October... :(

Hold your horses people. These machines are a couple of months of yet and yet your all already melting at the prospect of having one like you've been waiting a week for your order. :p

No confirmation dates yet. Earliest predictions could range from end of October to the start of 2010 though I personally believe that as soon as a new Intel range is released that Clevo will want to be right at the front of the line with orders when it happens. That's how it has tended to be.

    So far so good!
Looks like CLEVO has another winner on there hands, great just what I need more laptop envy ;)
The thing I don't see is the W860CU performing significantly better than a M860ETU even with the new i7 core CPU's.
Stick in a QX9300 in a M860ETU and you get the same thing basically, just without the updated look and new cooling with the 2 fans.
Is it just me or does the back end look really thick.(Could be the scooped out keyboard that makes it look that way)
    I still wan't one :D

Agree, and the 16:9 from my point of view is a downsize in comparison with the M860ETU.

The real upgrade IMO, is going to be February 2010. Arrandel FTW!

I think someone on the list has already stated that they are LED back-lit.

Apart from the fact that you won't be able to upgrade the GPU past the 200 series in a M860.

The backside of this laptop looks no bigger than the M860 imo either.

Of course you could wait for Arrandale, but what the hey, why not wait for the platform after that too?

Yeah, the M86 looks decent next to the W86.... until the latter recieves the next generation of GPUs and the better i7s are added to the SKU.

I know I'd be perfectly content living with my laptop and upgrading it for the next few years. Windows 7, 160GB Intel SSD, WUXGA screen, Blu Ray, etc. But I can't help but want the latest tech whenever it rolls out... it's some kind of addiction, and it's not a cheap one :D

I feel you anothergeek, I have it as well, but I keep saying to myself... it could be worse... like drugs or alcohol. :))

Anyway, I've noticed that a generally noticeable leap in tech is about once every 2 years, with about one more year after that for the tech to mature. Of course this is a not set rule, but this is more or less the trend.

So I guess that starting autumn 2010 I will start looking for a new notebook :).

I would suspect we'll be looking at gen 2, 32nm mobile i7 and of course DX11 capable GT300/RV870 by then. It would be a good time to upgrade. These chassis Clevo are rolling out will be the same for a least 2 years, so it would make sense to get one on the beginning trend, knowingly having a guaranteed upgrade path. The one that confuses me is the M980, as many problems as it has had and the time it has taken to get it on the market, they could have just waited for mobile i7 to be ready. I'm sure it will be fitted with the new motherboard by the end of the year though, hah.. I suspect that's why they abandoned the 9400M, so when they ditch the Nvidia chipset they can't be called out on missing features.

What I like about the M570 is that it's a legendary design. For over 2 years now, it's been revised and upgraded, but it hasn't changed in design. It survived changing chipsets (Merom, Santa Rosa, and Montevina), it reached the fabled quad core era, it's come from the 7950 GTX to the GTX 280M, it's been around a while...

I could keep it, max it out, and in a few years stand back and be proud having one of the greatest designed notebooks, at its prime. You know, when you see a 3+ year old Clevo pop-up on the marketplace, you can't help but respect how well it has served its years, like Gophn's babied D900. I know it will last, because physically it's rugged and the design has proven itself over 2+ years. Parts are easy to come by, if something breaks or if I want to upgrade the screen, get a TV tuner, get a BD Drive; I can do these things because the chassis makes it easy to do so. With how many other laptops can you crack open the back panel and swap the CPU, GPU, HDD, RAM, Mini PCI-E cards, and whatever else in one sitting?

G92b and Penryn QC are fine performers and at present are still the best notebook tech released. I can live with this one ;)

The reason for that is because you do your own upgrades, which for Clevo look a lot easier than any other brand.

Ah, you read my mind. I couldn't agree more. This is a fine chassis that has stood the test of over three architectures across six years and still counting. Along with the D9xx, this is one of Clevo's most successful designs that will forever go down in the notebook history books, despite being underrated and underappreciated. The pride and love that us M570TU owners have for this machine is ummatched compared to other notebooks.

I've taken this thing apart so many times it's not even funny. I even took apart my entire machine piece by piece just so I can remember how to put it back together starting with the bare motherboard. I even replaced some of the cheap zinc screws with longer shank steel screws because the zinc ones tend to strip a lot easier. Remember my statements back in the Asus forum starting with post #38? http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=410261&page=4 This chassis has so much flexibility for modding that it's almost like getting a 302 Cobra ready for the track. There is room for a third fan over the CPU as there are four screw mounts on the backpanel, and a third fan connector on the topside of the motherboard. There is so much ceiling clearance throughout the entire bottom side of the notebook that it allowed even the tallest copper heatsinks to be installed. Every component on this notebook is completely modular and can easily be swapped for a replacement. Had Clevo not kept this legendary chassis design, I would not be here this very moment. I would probably still be typing on the M860TU's direct predecessor, my M38AW.

anothergeek, Forge. Both of you have brought a tear to my eye. For all of us that hold the high level of care, love, respect, and responsibility for our Clevo's, I thank you. I really do.
