I like my Asus, but I'm not such a fanboy that I can't recognize a superior machine when I see one.
Once those new models release and their kinks get worked out, I'm probably jumping ship. I won't have the awesome warranty Asus offers, so I'm going to have to learn more about fixing laptops. I forgot where you said it, but you mentioned being your own service center.

nice looking laptop and right in line with the M15x..(just announced yesterday)
-
*runs to AW forum*
EDIT: You lie! -
@Moo... I know you are terribly excited and all with the M15x and the allpowerful Alienwares... but it's more the other way around mate. The M15x (which wasn't actually officially announced... just some pictures to lub the propaganda machine of AW) is going to be announced after the W860CU (which has been announced a long time ago, btw)... So, if you want to put things right, the M15x is (almost) in line with the W860CU!!!
Now, that's more precise...
I was reading the landslide thread on AW forum... you look like a hover hyped kid that is waiting for a new toy!!! It's OK though, we are all a bit the same... Hope they will make a solid product. Although, I'm sure it will be frankly expensive... BUT... in the end, the propaganda and the brain wash will always keep the fan boys happy!!!You've got to love AW...
-
thanks
i am just a happy kid because technology is great ..... I am actually more happy about the Clevo due to the mobile i7'si wanna see how they perform ....
Yea i know the Clevo was annnounced long ago ....I was refering to release date
but hey what do i know im just a fanboy
(sorry guys if i stirred up something i was just stateing some thing )
NOW I WANT MOBILE i7 benchmarks ! -
-
Otherwise, Bring it on AW! -
-
If the new M15x doesn't have the i7, there's no comparison. Clevo is always ahead of the game, one way or another.
-
Yup for mobile computeing clevo will beat the m15x easy
-
The amount of sheer fun I have had benching and playing games, testing drivers, software, playing GTA IV and Prototype (+ many others) for hours with great performance and portability.
I originally ordered the NP8660 but canceled when I realised there would be an update very soon (Quads + GTX260M) and here we are again a few months later with a very similar scenario lol.
I will wait to see the performance of the i7 before I really decide what I will do but I have to say I am really liking the internals, the fact that the new model no longer shares heatsinks etc.
Either way, I am loving my NP8662 and could never regret buying it and/or not waiting. -
Besides, there's a big debate over whether the new intel platform will bring many worthwhile enhancments over the current range.
The transition from ETU to CU is likely less worthwhile than a transition from TU to ETU/CU. -
the MXM 3.0 is what would seal the deal for me
-
So when can you start buying these bad boys ? (can't realy find info 'bout it)
-
As we have said before, late October at the most likely earliest shipping date.
So have patience. -
EDIT - That link has been taken down now and replaced with a new one. They've made it cheaper too...
The new link in case anyone cares. -
-
Does anyone have a benchmark of the mobile i7?
Ive just bought the M860TU, but im starting to think that might be a mistake -
The i7 isn't out yet. Intel claims it will be 10-20% faster than C2D (I'm guessing that includes the quads)
Need any more explainations? -
Can someone tell me what is this MXM 3.0b being paised about for a guy that never even heard about? What makes it good and so on.
-
Welcome to the forum
Its the kind of connector that is used on the card. MXM3.0b also allows for higher memory clock.
It makes it good for Clevo, not for us, because we (M860TU/ETU users) will have to buy a new laptop to use the MXM 3.0b cards. Our laptop uses the MXM 2.1 or something. -
-
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
No. It's designed for credit cards.
-
All you need to know about 3.0b is that it's the new standard module for upcoming chips, therefore having a 3.0b equipped notebook means access to the future.
You are on notice. -
I just hope the 2 fans are up to the task of cooling the new i7-920(55W).
Probably will but then again...... -
A whole heatsink to the CPU compared to one shared. Plus, and very few people realise this the TDP for i7 takes into account the northbridge too, unlike the C2D. They are pretty similar otherwise.
To confirm suspicions Cizmo have added the Core i7-920XM to their list of CPU's that can be installed. While they may (possibly) be getting ahead of themselves, it's more likely that this will be the standard for all OEM's when the machine is released. This'll hopefully mean that Clevo approve of the use of all thre CPU's. And after their hesitency on using X9100's and then QX9300 we know that they like to play it on the safe side of caution. -
thing is with the new i7 processors is that the overall consumption by the board won't be that much compared to the Core 2 variants. Why? Because the CPU has a built in northbridge, which adds around 10w to the overall consumption of the CPU alone. So cooling it shouldn't be an issue seeing as an additional cooling solution isn't required for the northbridge.
-
Finally a CLEVO laptop that has a factory built TURBO mode!
Thanks INTEL! -
-
Note fully up to date on mobile i7 CPU's.
But I thought you can OC all 4 cores as long as your TDP remains under 55W.
Maybe someone with more inform can help clear this up.
Don't get why only 1 core would be able to OC up to 3.2 Ghz, what's the point.
Not saying you are wrong but what good would only 1 core be able to OC?
Most people look at these CPU's for gaming and using only 1 core for gaming for todays games is not gonna get you the results you want.
I reserve my final judgement until I see the CPU's in action. -
The way it was explained to me (thanks, phin!) was that turbo mode disables core(s) not in use and draws the extra power to one core for "turbo" mode.
Therefore, the turbo mode does only oc a single core. -
Fudzilla, VR-Zone, and a few others report that the CPUs will overclock more than one core, as long as the TDP is not exceeded.
So if one core will go to 3.2Ghz for a single threaded app, maybe a dual threaded app will push two cores up around 2.66Ghz? -
So technically you could have three cores running @ 3.2Ghz, or two, or just the one if thats all that's needed to complete the tasks at hand.
Can the W860CU cover the power/heat required to do this? Don't know - possibly, it's something we'll have to wait to test.
EDIT - Darnit - looks like ya beat me to it K-Jack2. -
I've found some info about "Turbo Mode", but it's still a bit confusing:

Thanks for the clarification guys......

Great video.
That really helps understanding the i7core CPU's. -
I'll take two please!
-
So let me guess this straight and I'll be glad I was wrong if I'm right with this one. According to that video, as long as there is enough power/heat dispensation, you can go into-turbo mode with ALL four cores?
It's practically Intel-sponsered overclocking! That would be better than any of the overclocks were getting with the M860 series at the moment. No wonder Clevo have given the CPU its own fan. They wanna see that this thing truly breaks some 15" records for good! -
I'd like to know what the max for all four cores would be, because four cores at 3.2GHz would be amazing. -
Oh man, I almost hope it's too expensive for me, otherwise I'll have to have one.
-
This is my next laptop, definitely, maybe.
I looked at the prices on Cizmo and they compare favourably to the M860 so I reckon I can afford it. Though i'll probably buy it from Kobalt. I don't mind waiting a month or two because I don't have a choice, it'll take a few weeks for me to get a refund for my DOA qosmio anyway.
Cizmo has a ship date of Sep 29th which is probably waaay optimistic, but hopefully we'll see it in Oct or Nov ? -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
My money is on after the Christmas season.
-
Right around the time Intel will be prepping Arrandale? Nah, I think Clevo will want to get it out before then - especially with all the rich kids asking for expensive laptops for Christmas.
-
Will Turbo Mode activate on its own, or does the user have to activate it? It would be nice to not have to constantly monitor apps and core activity to take full advantage of the feature.

The way that the video explained it, it should be automatic.
-
Looks like a nice notebook, but I don't care for the leather grain look. I love the brushed aluminum of my NP8662. Either way, it's all about performance and quality. I'll let y'all be the guinea pigs, so in a couple years when I sell my NP8662 I'll know if this is the way to go!
-
They've removed the leather grain look, Justin added some pictures of the final revision.
