What do you think will be the price difference between NP8662 and W860CU? i5 CPU is only 210$ it seems. So I'm wondering with the same setup except for cpu and the screen\chasis what is the expected price on the release? Can Justin from Xotic PC shed any light on this?
-
There is athread called upcoming Calpella platform, there is some pricing information there... but the mobile i7 doesn't come cheap.
-
Justin@XoticPC Company Representative
I am sorry I don't have any pricing details on this new model. I would assume it would be around the same price point give or take $100-$200.
-
Get the feeling that the quoted prices at the moment ($1000 for the 920M etc...) will come down once the actual plaform has been released.
-
Cizmo have prices up (for the W860CU), and im sure they are not just plucking them from the air. So if you compare it with Cizmo's existing price for a M860TU, it looks to be about the same as a M860TU with Q9000.
-
Well Cizmo pricing is very different from Sagers. For instance their T9600 cpu cost twice as much compared to Q9000 on their M860 ETU. Sager's price for those two cpus is almost identical. Nevertheless it's a pretty good approximation. They are saying it will be shipped around 29th of September. Can we expect those laptops available for preorder at Xotic within a month, or still no official word from Clevo?
Also is there an extensive guide and explanation for "Turbo Mode" on their low clocked i7 processors? How effective and safe is it, etc? -
It's probably not wise to use Cizmo's price base into account if you're from the US. As and EU-based business Cizmo addes prices like import tax and Customs VAT because that's what they'll have to pay to import them from Clevo.
This goes for most hardware too.
While I'm sure they will be software to take advantage of 'Turbo Mode' eventually, the CPU runs it all automatically - whatever's best for the sitaution. So while the CPU maybe able to do 4 x 3.2GHz of damage, the situation may only call for 1x 2.0Ghz and that's all it will use. -
Lynnfield with its dynamic core and clockspeed turbo trick is impressive. I can't wait to see the improvements 32nm brings on the mobile front. Shouldn't be later than summer time in '10...
Shoot, maybe I'll just wait until I can get a Gulftown D900F with a GT300 Ultra and 1.5 TB worth of unadulterated SSD pleasureTalk about addiction satisfaction.
-
All you need do is look at the price of the CX15i (€1259 ex vat with a i7-720QM) and the existing CX15 (€1257 with a Q9000). Just knowing that they are roughly the same is enough for most US guys to make an educated guess as to what their local price will be based on their current M860 prices.
Its not exact, but it's the closest approximation at the moment, until some other retailers start putting prices up. It should be enough to assuage any fears about a massive price hike anyway. -
The i7 processors listed on cizmo are much lower clocked than lets say D900F models. Will they still outperform current QX9300 though? Does anybody have any information about them, how do they compare?
Quadcore: Intel Core i7-720QM (1,6 GHz, 6MB L3 Cache, 45 W, Turbo mode up to 2,8GHz)
Quadcore: Intel Core i7-820QM (1,73 GHz, 8MB L3 Cache, 45 W, Turbo mode up to 3,06GHz)
Extreme Quadcore: Intel Core i7-920XM (2,00 GHz, 8MB L3 Cache, 55 W, Turbo mode up to 3,2GHz) -
W860CU is impressive. Have clevo release a successor to the M980nu or something with dual gpu?
-
no ? the m98nu isn't even all the way out yet
-
Eurocom claimed they'll have the i7 in the M980nu before anyone else
-
don't they always ?
but they did pull through this time on getting the M98nu out first ,,,,,, -
It may be too early to ask, but with the way that the Mobile i7s perform, does anyone know what the i7 720/820/etc. be comparable to in regards to current dual/quad core processors in applications that don't take advantage of all the threads (i.e. programs using 1 core, 2 cores or 4 cores)? This may be a poor way to phrase the question, as I'm not the most knowledgeable about such things, hence why I'm asking.
Also, can anyone who's more hardware savvy than I am point out any possible issues that they can see with the new architecture in the W860CU vs. the M860ETU? I'd really like to get a W860CU when they're available, but am weighing it against a reduced price M860ETU that has a proven chassis. Just wondering what more informed opinions are thinking about the W860CU vs. M860ETU. Thanks. -
only issue i could forsee would be heat but with Clevo and by the looks of it they took it all into account
-
Any 'advice' and statistics you'll be given about the i7 would all be pure speculation and guesswork for the next couple of weeks, until they are released.
-
A further advantage when comparing Core 2 quads vs Core i7 quads is the Core i7 should be significantly faster than Core 2 quads when running applications programmed for 1-2 cores. This is a function of the Core i7s "Turbo Boost" which has been discussed at length in this thread. In my mind this erases any doubt whether one should get a fast dual core vs a slower quad core.
All in all you should expect the Core i7 720 to be slightly faster than the Q9000 in multithreaded applications and even faster for single or dual threaded applications.
That said, I wouldn't expect any miracle performance increases. -
-
Well we can find some info about the increased performance of the W860CU at Cizmo webpage where they allow you to preorder, and they say will begin shipping Sep. 29th .This is a resume of what they say about the performance:
http://www.mycizmo.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=72&products_id=207
First gaming benchmarks showed already the huge graphics potential of the CX15i. For example more than 30% higher frame rates in GTA IV than any other gaming notebook are really a stunning result which we didn´t expect to receive. The majority of the upcoming block buster gaming titles like Rage, Mafia 2 or Assassin´s Creed 2 will support massively quadcore processors. Intel´s new mobile i7 processors offer more than 80% performance headroom for future games compared to the current mobile quadcore processors Q9000 and Q9100.
Furthermore the CX15i fully supports DDR3 memory with 1333MHz for the very first time, giving you another valuable performance boost compared to any other notebook.
First professional Benchmarks with TMPGEncoder *Xpress" 4.4 showed 44% faster encoding of HD videos.
So whether you are a gaming enthusiast or professional user in the fields of video editing, 3d, photography or music, the Cizmo CX15i is the perfect solution for you. -

Although at ~ $1800 for a base machine with no OS and 2GB RAM, I'll let someone else bite first. It will be ~ $2200 decently configured. I'm excited to see how well it performs though. i7 finally makes it's way into notebook PC's! -
-
-
I think I remember Justin from XoticPC mentioned in post #203 that the price should be similar to the m860tu, more or less $100 or $200. Going from that, it would be fair to assume that the base price of the w860cu should be around $1500 or $1600.

Now I'm just left wondering the worth of the i7-720QM/820QM, because I'd personally not drop anywhere near or above ~$500 for the Core i7-920XM, even if BIOS overclocking is included. -
@Oiad: Yes, I understand anything about the Mobile i7 processors right now is going to be speculation, but I imagine (and could be completely off the mark) that the performance increases might be analogous to desktop i7s relative to desktop C2Ds. If I'm completely off, please let me know.
@Dalingrin: Thanks for the information. I'm not expecting radical performance increases right now, but I figure if I (or anyone else, for that matter) choose to be an early adopter, that what we'd be paying for vs. the M860TU would be a clear upgrade path.
One thing that I am ignorant about is what the different code names of the i7 chips (or is it chipsets?) mean. As in, I understand the Lynnfield ones are out, and the Calpella ones are to be released at the end of this month, with the Arrandale i7s slated for sometime in 2010. I guess I'm confused as to whether these different code names will all be usable on the same motherboard, or if there is something that may preclude that? Also, what are the differences between these 3 in particular, and others that I don't know of/haven't listed? Apologies for my admitted ignorance. -
Most of the Desktop range uses the Westmere artitechture wheras the mobiles are mainly based on Nehalem, when it comes to Quads anyway. I'm gonna take it that you realise the TDP will be alot lower on the mobile chips (Clarksfield-range) but then the desktop range (lynnfield/bloomfield-ranges) is generally more powerful.
The Arrandale's being released later in Q4 2009 will be dual-core for now and will use the same 'chipset' slot - mPGA-989. As for future releases, dunno yet to be sure but I doubt they'll be compatible. -
There is something WEIRD....
Ehm i7 920XM TCP = 55W
GTX 260M = 75W
+ all other components .... 130W + + +
and the W860CU has a 120W Power supply , x___x
My M860TU has a QX9300 + GTX 260M the QX is overclock to 2,73 Ghz and the card is overvolted and overclocked.
When I overclock it too much it's laggs, and I got big FPS drops ( like 15 instead of 90 for a second ) !
I am not sure but I guess there's not power enough.
So how can it work well with a i7 920XM + GTX 260M in a W860CU ? I had hoped they change for 150W power-supply ? -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
TDP wattage does not equal power wattage.
-
CPU power dissipation:
Some CPUs (i.E. newer Intel-CPUs) have the typical power consumption defined as TDP and some (like CPUs from AMD) have the maximum power consumption defined as TDP.
TDP - Thermal Design Power:
The TDP is typically not the most power the chip could ever draw, such as by a power virus, but rather the maximum power that it would draw when running real applications. This ensures the computer will be able to handle essentially all applications without exceeding its thermal envelope, or requiring a cooling system for the maximum theoretical power, which would cost more and achieve no benefit. -
will the gtx280 fit into the w860cu ???
-
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
Yes, it will.
-
Why is it still cool to spend ~$500 for a max performance upgrade of 15 percent? This type of decision only makes a pinch of sense when you're fighting for survival.
Overclock you fracking GTX 260Ms and stop wasting Benjamins. -
Speaking of which, how are your overclocking numbers Kevin? And are you content with the T9800?
-
w00t, I mailed arround a bit, asking for expected release date of the W860CU and one of the Clevo resellers here in Europe let me know that they expect to start shipping monday the 28th of september 2009!
No M860(E)TU for me! Going straight for this beauty. -
RE: T9800? I'm never content. It's an amazingly fast CPU, but I'd like to sell it on the cheap (~$200) to fund a Q9100/9200. -
-
-
Well, the Cizmo CX15i (ie the Cizmo rebrand of W860CU) has now been taken off their website.
Probably told by Clevo that they put it up too soon, or maybe they didn't want to take any more orders in case there was a delay. -

The desktop range, until the latest release this month, has been Bloomfield.
The mobile processors are closest to Lynnfield which debuted this month for the desktop. This is a bloomfield processor with less memory bandwidth and a built in PCIE controller, along with a few other changes.

It seems that Intel is following the same trend again. The first generation of the Nehalem i7 will be very short lived if Arrandale is to be expected around the corner. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=5045460&postcount=25
-
Okay, hate to be wrong again (see below) but aren't all the mobile-platform Arrandale's that have been announced, including the Core i7-620M dual-cores?
-
-
Well, if some have any doubts about the intel i7/i5 for the current and next year, here you have the actual roadmap:
-
I think that roadmap is slightly out of date. Two things that I've seen that conflict with it are the price of the Core i7 820 and the ship date for Arrandale low voltage.
The i7 820 should be ~$550 and all Arrandale should be in Q1 2010.
Oiad, as far as I know you are right. Word is, the first 32nm mobile quad will debut Q2 or Q3 2010.
