yes, completely agree with the price of core i7 820, but the two images are of different scale, if you adjust the scale of the bottom image you will notice that those Arrandales will be issued at the same time (Q1 2010) (4 blocks).

how does the mobile i7 cpu of this laptop compare to the desktop i7 cpu of say the d900f ???

2.0 gig tops ... that isnt so fast ???

the lower ranged i7 of the d900f at 2.66 gig would easily beat even the 2.0 gig fastest i7 mobile ???!!!!

    wouldnt it ???

True, but these mobile i7's pack only a TDP level that's around a third to what those desktop behemoths require. The power input-to-output ratio on the mobile i7's is much better. They're much more effieicent.

He's saying that the desktop i7's have a TDP output of 130W compared to <=55W on the mobile i7's. The mobile i7's derived from their desktop counterparts and Intel had much more time to develop and streamline the architecture so that it is very efficient. Yes, the mobile i7's are slower, but they consume far less power and produce far less heat.

Compared to the Core 2 CPU's, the i7 is hotter as Intel has decided to integrate the memory controller and the northbridge onto the CPU. This means that motherboards will be smaller, and the heatsink needed for the northbridge on the previous generation CPU's can be integrated into making a beefier CPU heatsink.

efficient in terms of architecture and power usage. the slowest desktop i7 processor, the 920, runs at 2.66ghz and has a tpd of 130W. the fastest mobile i7 is 2.0ghz and has a tdp of 55W. so if you look at it, the mobile i7 are designed pretty well.

Ok to put it as simple as possible...

If you did a ratio of CPU power/electrical power drain", the mobile i7 would be better than the desktop i7 as it consumes less electrical power. Sure, it also packs less punch, but it's a lot less draining on the laptop's power supply.

Eurocom lets you swap the 280M in the 870CU with a 260M, knocking the price down by a respectable ~$170.

Eurocom has always been overpriced. You can make them price match though.

Lots of Canadians who wanted Clevos without having to import made Eurocom price match the models they had.

Are you kidding? They match U.S. prices with or without conversion? In some cases that's about a thousand bucks cheaper. How do you get them to price match? Just spec a system with Xotic, call Eurocom and ask for a match?

You forgot the part where they say that they can't give you that price :p

You can't make that calcul, but if there was a desktop i7 clocked at 2.0ghz, it would probably be in the 80-90W TDP range minimum.

I know they pricematch US resellers; however, I think they apply exchange rate(which should not really impact in this case since it's like 1$CAD=0.92$US), but you'd have to check with them.

They're pretty easy on the pricematching considering as you said, they're one of the few companies who sell Clevos in Canada(all of the ones in Canada overprice anyways).

In the Italian Cizmo website the CX51i is still displayed and available to be bought (with 29th of September shipping date).

I just checked the other websites and the notebook it's also in the Spanish website, but in any of the other ones...

I also found out that it's cheaper than the CX51 (with old t6400 Core 2 Duo CPU but same GTX 260M)...do any of you know why??

    @ rivehn

I'm planning on getting a notebook in the middle of oct, so I collected around many information.

This notebook will be one of the first with a Core i7 (a quad core that can turn off 1/3 cores and overclock the other ones), so nobody know certainly about the benchmarks against a Core 2 Duo. It should be better, but we don't know how much...

They will have the same videoboard (GTX 260M) so there will not be a huge difference in games. Rumors that it will be possible to upgrade this one to 280M, also thanks to the double heatsink system.

In one reseller, the W860CU is slightly cheaper than the NP8662 with the same configuration, and in another one the W860CU is 250Euro more expensive (I can give u the price for each i7 CPU if u are interested). But both those resellers are Italian (or I checked the Italian website), and I don't really trust them :p

In europe it was announced to be released the 29th of September, but there rumors it'll be delayed.

Hope I was usefull, see yah...

For what i see, the P9700 have the same price of the Core-i7-720QM, so if you want better performance, wait for W860...

    @Kevin_Jack2.0

I think that the design of the 8662 is prettyer than the W860...but this is subjective, right???

I also know that resolution will be 1600X900 (HD+) or 1.366x768 (HD) as people were not sure...

The notebook is made in alluminium and ABS , while the hand resting place is made in fake skin, the dimension 374x263x42mm, the weight is 2.9kg without battery and 3.2kg with 8-cell battery.

The height is always referred as the maximum of all the notebook.

It's usually in the back if the notebook is well built; anyway check the pictures in the first page...

Santech.it have this notebook for pre-order also. Nothing new, just a second source if you want to double-check specs or dimensions etc.
    http://www.santech.it/shop/articoli.aspx?idArt=39

As before, i'd say to US guys that a direct € to $ conversion will not give you an accurate price. A better way to guage it is to look at Santech's M860TU. The barebones W860CU is only €50 more than the M860TU (€697 vs €649), and the lowest i7-720QM is the same as the Q9000 (+€397 vs +€390).

So it really does seem like this machine will end up similarly priced to a M860TU with Q9000.
