    Apparently, I thought I do :p

You know, to stay on the safe side. Not really needed with these beasts, though.

It all depends on whether you plan to do any overclocking really. I've never done much overclocking, but the cooler does sit the rig at a nice angle that makes it significantly more ergonomic for long game sessions.

Consider the fans an added bonus to reducing wrist strain :p

Congrats! You'll definitely enjoy it. It's a whole different world - things just slide and work and do what they're supposed to do which is a small wonder (for me, anyway :p )

Two weeks until I needed the support group... I think I held out pretty well :)

I ordered from Myth on the 5th - I'm super excited! I figured time until I get my machine could be anywhere from 10 days to 30 (hopefully not!), but I really just want it before PAX Prime (Aug 31st).

Anyway, looks like I'm in good company here ;)

Still showing in build. Was hoping that would just be a day but trying to be optimistic. Would be great if they could get it out the door so I could speed ship it home to get it when I get back in town. Would make me sad to not get it till the next week at this point. So close.

I ordered on the 1st (at night) and it went into build on friday. Hopefully means you shouldnt be TOO far behind. Though the whole business day thing is making me sad, its a lot longer than my head says it should be.

Also, Glad my thread is getting some people in it. Figured it would be good to try to get all the antsy talk into one place to keep the forum a little clean. And it just helps everyone being in one place together. All I know is once I get mine I will be happy to take all the pics and what not that people want to help pass the days.

For me I went with Clevo cuz I wanted the tops, so anything but the 680 (or 7970 if it worked) was not on my gameplan. To each his own. I have been lusting over a custom laptop since I was like 11 so this was my realization of that 18 years later with a proper job and stuff coming together.

It's nice when you realize that you've become somewhat established and get to buy a nice toy! This lapy will be the nicest thing I have bought in a very long time (not including the engagement ring on my ladies finger... The price tag of that was half a year's pay in a combat zone!)

Exactly. I, too, dreamt about this kind of gaming laptop, but never got the chance. And good thing I waited, as the specs in this baby gives a desktop a run for its money. I sure can share the enthusiasm.

Yup, with its price tag, this is indeed mainly a toy for grownups ;)

Men don't grow up... We just get bigger, more expensive toys.

I've been piecing together nickle & dime gaming rigs that were just enough to play whatever game I was interested in at the time. I never got into laptops until I joined the military and couldn't lug around a tower and monitor.

The system i'm on now is an ASUS G73JH. I bought it as-is from newegg about 2 years ago. It still plays just about everything well (or good enough). My plan is to give this one to my fiancee pre-loaded with a copy of Guild Wars 2 in hopes that I may be able to turn her to the dark side. Even if not, her desktop was a low-end system back in 2002 when she bought it (and is still working!) This thing will be a MASSIVE upgrade for her, I get my new toy... We both win (especially if she likes the game! her idea of gaming is angry birds).

Yeah bud. I've gotten many compliments on it seeing that I had no help from the other in picking it out. As for the not taxed thing... It is nice, but i've only been in for 2 years now (late-life choice to enlist). I make far less than one would think. Since I am still single, I get no family separation pay, nor housing pay. The fiancee and I joke that we should have eloped just to get the extra money.

It was terrible. I was looking at my bank account the other day wondering where all my $$ had gone. Engagement ring (check) Computer (check) Birthday & Christmas gifts (check).... Why am I still missing $1500? And then it dawned on me... One random night after a craptastic mission where I realized that if i'm gonna die, there is no sense in taking money to the grave with me... I bought all the Game of Thrones replica swords, daggers & warhammer to hang on my office wall when I get married and get a house! HA!

@n0j0y: What did you add to your order?

In other news... I'm F'n pumped. This is a great week for gaming. Darksiders 2 goes live in about 8 hours, and GW2 3-day head-start kicks off in 5 days. WIN!

hi everybody.. I'm waiting still my clevo p150em..
I wished to post (it is my NBR first time..) when my clevo p150em would have been already in my hands..
Unfortunately, I have to abandon my romanticism because coming back to NBR after a few days of absence I noticed that the large majority of Clevo (potential or neo-)owners opted quasi-exclusively for the GTX680M by now.
It would seem the latency period of AMD7970M predicament is over and it has turned out to be a chronic (or very long) hard disease.
At this point, I'm immediately forced to ask you please, dear mates, whether to keep on about the 7970M (yes! it is still my 1st GPU choice in my clevo config) is a crazy nonsensical waste of money and time.. or "there's yet a method in my madness"..
    Thanks

Can't make that choice for you my friend. I had originally ordered with the 7970m, but then I started reading about all the issues, and it brought me back full circle.

Two years ago I bought my current laptop that has a 5870m. It was constant issues, BSOD, couldn't even watch a movie. ASUS pretty much refused to acknowledge there was a problem. Eventually I found the vbios/bios fixes here on this site.

In reading about all the 7970m issues, I decided that I would rather spend the extra money and not have to repeat the same issues I had 2 years ago. I am sure there will eventually be a fix to the 7970m, and from what I have read, it is stil a pretty damn good card. I just couldn't justify spending $3000 on a system that wasn't going to run at 100%, thus opted for the 680M.

Are you willing to await a fix from AMD/Clevo? If so, i say leave it as-is. If not, make the change. From what i've read, even with the issues, the 7970m is still a great performer in most games.

    Who did you order from?

I'm looking forward to hearing your review on it. People have been screaming for a tiny lappy that you can game on for quite some time. I think this one will fall second to none in the price/performance category.

n0J0y - Congrats on moving to burn-in and test! Watching yours progress gets me all excited as mine can't be too far behind - just checked, Pending Parts... means it is moving a long :)

hgarrett54 - I also want to hear about it, seems like a great option now that the M11x no longer exists!

Darksiders 2, Sleeping Dogs, CS:GO, Dark Souls, Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2...

    I pre-ordered CS:GO and borderlands 2 in a moment of weakness
3 days to go before its in my hand!

Not to harm excitement but to set reasonable expectations I never was in the pending parts. I sat in shell for a good long while then went to build. Though the time I spent waiting to start build likely would make up for any time waiting on parts. Either way hope yours comes soon.

Unless I'm misreading the promo the sale price is the same as amazon. My loyalty to new egg was swayed long ago when Amazon prime came out. But yeah the 256 830 is what I was looking at I think.

not sure what price you are looking at. Take 15% off the price listed on the page the link goes to.

Nevermind. it lists the discounted price, so yes... no different than Amazon

OK... SO i ran a test. I added the 256gb to my cart and then added the promo code. Total price came to $169.14 w/ free shipping. So the 15% is in addition to the discounted price in the link.

In other news... Steam just started unpacking my pre-load of Darksiders 2 :D

    Overclock.net Sean's SSD Buyer's Guide

This really helped me out when choosing. I have a 128GB Samsung 830 in my desktop and I love it. Crucial M4s look good too. I have a 90GB OCZ Vertex 2 that is currently giving me issues...

    Thank you very much.. :)
your advice is very wisely expressed
I guess I'll leave the original config untouched (notebookguru is the seller) especially for the lower price taking nonetheless in account the risk to see the latter turned out to be a delusion and to experience your same past AMD-frustration .. the chance of finding a forthcoming fix on NBR included, maybe just from some your post..
    Wish me luck anyway! :D

You'll be fine Hamlet! Congrats Ruvy, Hgarrett: That is going to be a little beast of a system!

ANd to those who haven't bought darksiders 2 yet... Wait another couple weeks (or longer). The port job done on it gives us ZERO graphical options, There is a bug forcing GPU's to run at 100% the entire time the game is running. Amazingly enough, mine managed to stay at 79-80C after playing for close to 3 hours, and I know this ASUS is in dire need of a repaste. The KB/Mouse controls are horrid.

The only saving grace for me is that I loved DS1, and I had already planned on playing w/ my xbox controller. I'm having a blast with the game, but it leaves much to be desired for the PC platform. It's times like this that I wonder why I spent 3k on a laptop instead of $300 on an xbox... But then I remember: The new laptop gives me super powers! HA (and guild wars 2)

Damn that's fast Ruvy! When mine comes on the 23rd it will have taken 17 business days (23 days total)!
And yeah, the 650m in itself isn't a super powerful card, but since the resolution of the screen is only 1366x768 it will seem a lot faster :D

Question though: What do you guys use to carry your laptops around? I'm super protective of my gadgets and I don't want my sager to get scratched up :p

Sqeeeee laptop ready for shipment. Now the question is do I try to rush it to me or be semi patient and send it home and get it in a few days.
