Ah, sorry, I don't know much about Alienware.

So they are all using MXM slots? I thought they were using some sort of propriety slot. At least that's I know about Arima, I don't know about Quanta.

Just wondering, is ASUS W90 also using MXM ?

That nice to hear. I still had the impression that manufacturers are reluctant to accept it as a standard given that it can lead to easy upgrades and switches between cards --> less new sales for them.

Now I am wondering if you can throw in a 4870 in a M570ETU. It does have support on Clevo's website...

It's running cool, it gets up to the 60's while gaming, and peaks right around 70C during a 1024 wprime session. And I haven't even used the good thermal paste yet, hah.

GTA4 and L4D are quite a bit faster. Far Cry 2 is a little bit faster, even COD feels a little faster. When you drop the settings, like medium in Crysis, the system starts screaming. I mean 60 FPS @ 1680 x 1050 in Crysis. My old HP would barely manage 30 at 1280 x 800.

It basically cost me 200 bucks, because I've got a buyer for the P9600. If I had to do it all over again, I'd do the same thing again lol. I'm more than pleased with the performance now, especially with GTA4, and I'm ready for the next big CPU murdering title.

Now I've gotta go back to 3dmark and get my best numbers, heh

All the benchmarks are in the sig

I know that nvidia´s gpus are the best for gaming but i´m just curious about the role that the cpu has in synthetic benchmarks. It would be very nice that you could do a comparison chart between the p9600 and the qx9300 in 3d 06, vantage etc.

yeah 3dmark06 is purely cpu based. i clock my qx9300 to 1.6ghz and got 8500 points with crossfire. then at 3.2ghz the highest i got was 15,828. 2.53 was 13,???

P9600 was in the 11,650's with 185.85, I've only run it twice today but got 13,525. I know I can get it higher, but I don't think 14k is happening. Vanatge is probably marginally higher, but I'll install 185.20 later and retest.

3dmark06 doesn't stress the shaders enough. Parts of all the GPU tests reach 70-90 FPS, in which case the CPU is inflating numbers. The native resolution is just too low.

acutally after doing research and testing myself i can say about 75% sure.

the reason why ati depends so much on the cpu is becase of how low the core clock speed is. if you raise it the card finally does more work and leans off the cpu more.

anothergeek Can you run a 3dmark 2006 with max oc to VGA and CPU @ 2880 mhz ?.... i wold really like to se the 3dmark score and the vantage score with this settings... and BTW please use nvidia drivers 185.85 Dox modded drivers....

imagine that the clevo m980 cold overclock only to 2.9 what wold be more and less the score of it in 3dmark 06 and vantage ? (im starting to get disapoitend with nvidia :( 280m not really more faster that 9800m GTX only a bit :( )

that card is cheaper and faster than the 9800m gtx?
unless they dropped the prices on the 9800m gtx's lately...

We all knew the 280M will just be 10% faster than the 9800M GTX, even less maybe. But the 280M has its advantages, uses less power on idle mode -> more battery life, generates less heat and allows for better OC. It's not a revolution, but it is one step further in the right direction. I would actually say the difference between the 9800M GT and GTX is less noticeable than the one between the 280M and 9800M GTX.

So there are other advantages than just raw graphic power, at leas IMO.

johnksss the problem is not the price... imagine that you are in one position like me....

I will have the money to buy the fastes latop out there... and i cant get ouver this problem

    W90vp (qx9300 + 4870 x2)
    Clevo M980 (qx9300 + 280m sli)
or eventualy if it comes out - "allpowerful" with qx9300 and 4870 x2 with Gddr5

I wold love to see the d901f Get Sli and i7, but as an informatic i know that for 17" size is impossible , not to mention the power it wold need

it wold be nice to see a d900f with 280m sli and QX9650 in OC.... but is very unlikely to see that.

Sorry my bad english but im from portugal :S

now i really what to know how good it will perform in SLi (that is the big question, and i hope to see very good scaling with SLi)

you have to realize...for you to find out which one is better...it has to go through the hands of an enthusiast with a maxed out machine...that is the only way your going to really know...and that just hasn't happen yet...not with the m980nu or the AW, but has been done with the w90/whitebook/np9262... so you may have to wait on your answer...

14k is going to happen soon i hope
it's winter here... my 280m's favorite time of the year :D

i have done few tries in 7RC and my best yet is 13624 @(690-1030-1725)-DOX-185.85
    SM2.0: 5821
    HDR/SM3.0: 5922
    CPU: 3873

isn't this wired ? coz a single nvidia gpu usually gets a higher score in SM2.0 than HDR/SM3.0

and i'm getting lower cpu score in 7rc (~ 4000 in vista)

i might try XP if i don't get it in vista or 7 :p

Mr M.A cant you overclock a bit mor that memory's ? BTW win7 scores lower (not mutch) 3dmk 06 that vista sp2 but it gets higher scores on vantage on windows 7 that on vista SP2.... XP for vantage i dont think that is a good idea :S ( just my 2 cent) for 3dmk 06 maybe but not good for vantage definitively not...

Wath build of Win7 are you using ? and in what resolution was the 3dmk 06 ?

Except Protector Suite QL (fingerprint software) won't install on it...

Edit: Older versions of PSQL (Non 2009 version) looks like it would install/work, but as psql 2009 was installed already before the 7100 -> 7137 upgrade, it won't install due to a newer version being installed. However the 2009 version won't work and won't uninstall due to it being incompatible with build 7137...

you guys seriously don't want to listen huh?..:D
the best driver for vantagemark is 185.20 hands down! and your better off benching in vista 32/64 than windows beta 7. your scores are all lower in beta 7 as of right now. no matter what build you use.
and the best driver for 3dmark06 is (176.09 or 176.25 - you have to bios mod for the clocks)...or 179.28 i think it is...

nice looking desktop you got there...is it yours?

I can't go higher with the memory, it will crash in the second gpu test

    john

I already got my vantage score using 185.20 in 7rc, but i didn't try it in vista
in 7rc i can go to higher clocks
700-1030-1750 worked but got a lower score

my goal in vantage was 6200+ GPU score and i got it and now 14K in 3dmark06... hopefully :)

Mr. M.A - 280M memories have a stock manufacturer frequency of 1000 Mhz. Anything above that is likely to damage them.
