I hope the keyboard turns out to be alright- I am a fan of the chiclet buttons on the NP8170

@DGDXGDG: Thanks for the post!!!
Do you know if the P270WM will support Desktop CPUs or Desktop GPUs? I heard about CPUs but I don't know about GPUs. -
CPUs yes GPUs no
-
Anthony@MALIBAL Company Representative
Any laptop that was able to fit desktop GPU's would be basically a desktop in size and weight, and would practically need a car battery to power it. Most desktop GPU's are 200-400w each, which is as much as an entire laptop system might require in a high performance model.
Desktop CPU's on the other hand are much more reasonable
-
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
There are no plans to incorporate a desktop GPU's in a Clevo P270WM or any other model.
Until the technology exist for putting one or two of these high power draw GPU'S into a small portable package it is not possible...
That is at this time. Yes, in this unbelievably fast moving tech world... never say never...
- -
yes no desktop vga card, that kind of machne:
-
What the hell is that ( I mean it in a good way ). I wanna use that as my tablet, any chance it will take a touch screen? I'd power it via a portable generator in my backpack.
-
Carrying a generator and that "thing" would break your back or simply kill you when you are going by the stairs. It one or another haha
-
Yeah I am going to have second that. What is that thing? Who makes it? I can actually see a use for such a rig.

Thanks for that! Amazing workstations they've got
-
they have some of those that are battery powered.
-
A german clevo reseller offered 2 CF 6790 for the X7200. Maybe, those were 6790m.
-

That is correct. It is physically impossible to fit desktop cpus inside a notebook as of today. -
Does anyone have information about this unit P270WM, when can it be pre-order. Either from Clevo or Sager brand.
-
just asked eurocom, which is free from sager nda something, they say p270wm3(3d vision one)eta late march, and new gen nvidia/amd vga card around april
-
Thanks, DGDXGDG.
Wish it out sooner, I do not want end up to buy NP7282-S1 which still available now, and then soon after will be out date due to the new replacement of P270WM.
Did you have a chance to test run the P270WM that you got.
P270WM3 that sound good but a few month away, hope I can hold on my $$$$.
Thank you -
Eurocom is not a reliable source. Please keep that in mind.
Also: You'll be able to wait. Just keep reading the first post as a reminder to yourself why you should wait
.
-
Yes, I have been waiting since November. That's why I check this site every day for up date. From your post the cover got large chrome round with the wing like on the top of cover. That is standard or only Clevo. I do not care with larger Chrome stick it out on the top cover.
Could you post the picture the top cover.
Thanks -
That chrome thingy on the top is merely the Terrans Force logo. That will not be there on Sager models (or Malibal models, I believe). Don't worry. I know I was like, "Whoa! What the?! Oh... That's just their logo."
I haven't posted any updates because no resellers have offered new info. Speaking of which, how about some updates?! *nudges jack-lbo* -
Thank you, I do not care with large Logo on the front.
Didn't know that Clevo product got many boutique (brand name) reseller in many country. -
Unfortunately nothing much to update on, our ETA is for early March for the P270WM now because of the better XTU support, which I guess in the long run will be worth it.
We will get in a sample when the XTU has been fixed, according to schedule MP is around Mid Feb. So we should have one a week or so after that.
In other exciting related news, we will be also getting the W110ER (middle March) which is an 11" Portable With nVidia GT650 Graphics and i7 support
CANNOT wait for this! m11x killer!
I am not sure if the USA is getting this model? Australia is anyway. -
Well if the USA doesn't get the W110ER, do you guys ship here? Any idea what the battery life will be? I may ditch my Lenovo x220 if I can get 5-6 hours of battery life AND a half decent video card. I like my 10+ hours of battery and i5, but the integrated graphics are horrendous. Also, any rumors on pricing?
-
Yes, we ship internationally.
Battery life not sure yet, it is classified as 'long battery life' at this stage.
What I do know is:
1.8kg
Optimus v1.2
THX Audio
Rubber finish like P150HM
I'll start a thread on that as it gets off track. -
Same story as with the X7200 a year ago. XTU is something I wouldn't put much hope into. At best it allowed some very mild OC' and even then we had stability issues all over the place.
Well, of course the new gen graphics is supposed to have an edge. However, don't forget that the M11x is 1 year old now and will be shortly replaced with the next gen. Clevo won't be the first and only to offer refreshes and new beasts this spring
. What about backlit keyboard for the W110ER? And by i7 do you mean dual or quad, Sandy or Ivy?
-
me too, dont look foward to xtu........im more likely to get e5 2687w
3960x have to oc to 4.4~4.5g to the 2687w level(all threads benches) with power draw increse 100+-w generally, but 2687w 150w tdp only 20w more then 3960x
and see that heat sink, it is 90% same as x7200, i dont think it can hold oced 3960x pass burn in test...
-
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
Hopefully it will NOT be the same as when the hold up was for the X7200 back in July-August 2010. (Finally released in the middle of September)
I want to be positive at this time that some lessons were learned.
_ -
I'm afraid it's not about lessons, it's about physical limitations of a laptop to contain and successfully cool down the most powerful desktop CPU in the world.
And that's exactly my point. We'd need a far more robust cooling to be able to reach 4.5 GHz on all cores. For example, I've been working on a new heatsink for the M18x ( 3x10mm pipes, lots of copper, more than the x7200 has) and still unable to contain even the mobile CPU (2960XM) past 4.5Ghz stable. And as far as I know, Clevo has no intentions of redesigning the chassis and cooling, they will be using the same one for another year
-
?didnt i read u say 2920/2960 can 4.5g stable on m18x?saw one 4.8ghz pass vantage/11......
so u mean the x7200/p270wm chassis will continue use on haswell-e/skylake-e!?
-
That's the info I'm getting. I really hope to prove wrong here
-
Just received that from Eurocom:
I think I read sth about April or so, seems that they have changed their mind
Good for us
-
When the model is released it will appear on all websites of all resellers same day. And it truly doesn't matter what some dealers claim that date to be. It's all false marketing till the day it is actually announced. So, be careful
-
Oh Eurocom, they are are so troubled. But I guess that's good news for all of us
-
Jack-LBO said in an earlier post that he is expecting March for when the XTU issues will be solved; which points even more to an April release date.
I am not posting anything from Eurocom in the first post. It's just not solid info from a reputable reseller. Moving on...
Jack-LBO: I was wondering if the P270WM's lights + back lit keyboard have a FN key combo to disable the lighting. Does it, or is it software based? -

By all means there will be 15" models coming out. April is the earliest ETA for these.Slaughterhouse said: ↑Apologies if this has already been asked, but is there a new 15" Clevo coming as well?Click to expand...
Also these 15" models will be based on the Intel Mobile CPU platform not a desktop CPU platform that the P270WM is.

Honestly I don't know because the date has not yet been decided. A set launch date in Clevo terms = the set date + a lot of time. A not yet set date = too far in the future to be a set date + a lot of timeskidmarks said: ↑Thanks for the response. Just hoping for some clarification. . At least the model is mentioned by its marketing name in the latest roadmaps.

i am new to high end gaming laptop but tempted to get a sager(currently using Dell M6600). Wondering if someone can tell me the how much advantage do i get to have P270WM compared with X7200 in terms of upgradability?
One option will be waiting for P270, take the risk of possible delay and probably a bit higher cost. Alternatively, i can get a X7200 right now, maybe replace it two years later with new Ivy generation laptop?
Some advices please... -
the best cpu for x7200 is old xeon x5687 6core 3.6ghz(x5698 maybe but i doubt bios dont support it)xinkehew said: ↑i am new to high end gaming laptop but tempted to get a sager(currently using Dell M6600). p270 can use new 3960x ofcourse and xeon e5 2687w 8core 3.1ghz, and continue support ivy bridge-e
but the thing is if new mxm4.0?? connector out and clevo may build a p370wm?? release with the ivy-e

So
x7200 supports sandy, and ivy, but not sandy-e and ivy-e,
P270 supports all the above...?
How about GPU upgradability? Any differences for them to cater for future GPU? I plan to go with single 6990 first.. then depends on need, to add one 6990 or maybe buy two better ones when necessary... -

Incorrect. x7200 supports Nehalem/Westmere desktop based processors. Sandy Bridge / Ivy Bridge are not supported.xinkehew said: ↑x7200 supports sandy, and ivy, but not sandy-e and ivy-eClick to expand...
The P270WM is not out yet, so I do not personally know, but believe the P720WM will be a ivy bridge based mobo. Dunno what backwards support ivy bridge motherboards will offer in regards to CPU (in regards to a SNB desktop CPU).xinkehew said: ↑P270 supports all the above...?Click to expand...
That is also unknown if the MxM standard will change in this model. It is rumored to be the one and the same as the x7200.xinkehew said: ↑How about GPU upgradability? P270 is socket 2011. Which means SB-E and IB-E. Standard IB will not work as it is a different socket.jclausius said: ↑The P270WM is not out yet, so I do not personally know, but believe the P720WM will be a ivy bridge based mobo. gaming the x7200 provides more than enough and still buy at a better price.
I have a dual gtx 580m and I have no complaints.
get a 990x with i7 and be happy.
