No no I give him mad props, but comon even DarkSmiley has gotta admit that video is pretty absurd lol, hilarious but absurd.
-
-
Eh... I didn't really find the video funny... just stupid. Closed it after about 10 seconds.
Anyway, Darksmiley, I wish you luck in your business, and hope you're successful. -
^it is not stupid, when you are 16 you should do "crazy" things in your "personal" life
-
Shane@DARK. Company Representative
Garandhero and OGLoc, thanks for wishing me luck! And Xirurg, I'm still not 16 yet...two more days
And yes, I do admit that the video that you're seeing is quite crazy, but I'd also like to clarify that I was 13 when that was made. You won't be seeing anything like that ever again. -
Good point. All I can say is, thank the Lord we didn't have cheap videocams and the internet when I was 13!
-
amen to that... when i was 13 i was humping light posts on the side of the road trying to get people to crash lol... and riding my bike and throwing myself off it next to old ladies taking groceries in freaking them out.
the things we do when were young ahhh... -
I to wish you luck, and i hope you prove all people wrong and continue to offer a high level of customer service!
When i was 15 I got caught smoking weed on a church ski trip..
We all do dumb stuff when we are young....If not we end up doing dumber stuff as an adult when things really matter..
So for as you Dark Smiley, just put your customers first.. That's all. -
Dark Smiley Systems went out of business as of 3-30-09
-
Shane@DARK. Company Representative
Yes, yes we did. The LLC is currently in the process of being dissolved. If there are any questions concerning this matter, post 'em here or email me at [email protected]. -
Whoa seriously??
-
*looks at the date... ahuh sure!
-
Shane@DARK. Company Representative
It's been rocky for the past few months and I finally made the decision that after a month without any sales, I can't afford to keep it going any longer. So, regrettably, the time has come to end this venture. -
wow shane so sorry to hear man. you were for sure very respectful and on top of things. i wish you the best of luck
-
Shane@DARK. Company Representative
Not an April Fools' joke. May be slightly bad timing, but I assure you that as of yesterday Dark Smiley Systems, LLC is no longer open for business.
Thanks zfactor. Believe me, I wish I was able to still run the company. I had a lot of fun building and supporting these systems. -
Thats too bad Shane, good luck with your future endeavors. You should have gained a lot of experience out of your company, which is a great step toward a productive, successful future
K-TRON -
Shane@DARK. Company Representative
Thanks for the kind words K-TRON. -
Now this is a band-wagon I can jump on! I'm sorry to hear you had to close down Dark Smiley; that's gotta hurt a little bit since one's own business is more like a child than a source of cash. From what I've seen on the forum, you ran your business in a professional manner, which is better than many who are twice your age (or more).
The experience you've gained will no doubt be invaluable in the future, and I look forward to hearing about Dark Smiley 2.0 sometime - sooner rather than later I suspect. I trust that you'll still be dropping in on NBR from time to time, no? -
Shane, congratulations on your successes and experience gained from your company. You did at a young age what most never achieve in their lifetime. You have my deep respect and support for all your efforts. Good luck next time, don't give up hope for your next venture!
-
Any last systems on sale?
-
Shane@DARK. Company Representative
Email me on this topic.
Thanks for the kind words, Shyster1, but I don't think that Dark Smiley will be resurrected again at least until I'm in college, possibly after.
Thank you for the kind words, emike09. -
Im pretty sure Dell also started this way just so all you know and look how well its doing
-
That's because everyone looks at the success stories and forgets that there are thousands that have also tried and didn't make it.
-
In that case I am sorry to hear that and goodluck with your future endeavours, I had seen so many April fools jokes and just assumed.
-
Sorry to learn of the closing of DSS Shane, I wish you all the best in your future endeavors.
-
Sorry to hear that Shane. You did a great job with my system, but I already modified it to the point where my warranty will be voided anyways. You ran a professional and respectable business, which can be hard to find these days.
Good luck with school and your future endeavors. -
Tough break Shane. Unfortunately you ran into a perfect storm of a bad economy coupled with an unknown start-up business in a market of cutthroat competitors.
You showed great initiative and by all accounts that I can see, you dealt with people in an upfront and honorable manner. Treat this as a great learning experience that will serve you well in future endeavors.
Good luck and maybe I'll be buying my next laptop from DSS(2)!
-
Shane@DARK. Company Representative
Thank you, NGH.
I'm glad you thought well of my business, Ike. Great service and a professional atmosphere are the things I tried to achieve, and things that many people seem to have thought I would fail with (for more on this, look at the earlier posts in this thread). I'm glad to see that your opinion is that I proved them wrong.
Thanks for the kind words, NoSpinZone. And since you're in Mass, maybe I'll have to give you a discount for being a (sort of) local
-
Sorry for you about that DarkSmiley.
in less than 2 years I guess
-
Shane@DARK. Company Representative
Very true...
-
Don't take it on Shane. See this as a learning experience and continue to search for potential money making opportunities especially in these economic times. You are an entrepreneur at heart and it would pain me if you don't put that mind to such a good use after this.
Good luck man. Even though you don't need it.
-
I honestly couldn't believe the amount of negative press in the first page of this thread. It destroyed me just how negative people on the internet can be really without reason. Though, the important lesson learned, is that to do all of your personal online things either in an Alias or in a different name.
Anyway, good luck with your future endeavors! I also run my own business as a teenager and so far I haven't had to deal with too much grief over my age. Though, that's not to say I haven't had my fair share of projects that just have gone wrong. -
It's finished now, let it rest.
I'm sure it was quite eyeopener as to what some people are all about.
GOOD LUCK! -
Shane@DARK. Company Representative
Thanks for the kind words, but I actually always did everything in my real name, with my real phone number and real address available online. I never liked the corporate veil, and it helps me stay honest.
Thanks for throwing some luck my way IKAS and Deathwinger
-
Alright, I have no problem with DarkSmiley being 16. When I was in middle school, a classmate named Brian was hired to fix and manage all the computers, and yes, he was well under 16. Like DarkSmiley, Brian already had years of experience before then, and he didn't disappoint. By the time Brian graduated high school, his business had already taken off.
Keep in mind that even young teenagers already possess the same powers of analysis, and can execute decision making at rather high levels. What they typically lack is experience, something which DarkSmiley here clearly has no shortage of.
To DarkSmiley: Good luck with your business. Think of this thread as free exposure
-
Shane@DARK. Company Representative
Actually, the past few pages have dealt with the dissolution of Dark Smiley Systems since I'm closing down, but thanks for the kind words anyway
-
Alright, I'm blind and fail. Good luck on future ventures, both in school and out.
-
sorry to hear that m8...I wish you good luck!
P.S. just out if curiosity, how much did it cost to run the company? -
Well, I meant the for fun stuff haha...like that MySpace page
-
Shane@DARK. Company Representative
More than I expected. I don't have the exact figures but I had to pay for webhosting, outsourced tech support, labels, boxes, repairs, packing peanuts, and on top of everything I had to keep my prices competitive. If I had a large volume of sales it would have worked out, but with such a small margin I had to shut it down. -
Shane@DARK. Company Representative
There's a mistake I won't make again. -
how much do you pay for tech support?
-
Best of Luck for You and your future endeavors!
-
Shane@DARK. Company Representative
I paid $2/minute for outsourced tech support with The Utility Company.
Thanks
-
hei, you changed your username.
how can you do that? i dont see any option in my User CP to change username. -
Shane@DARK. Company Representative
I PMed Chaz, seeing as I'm no longer in business I figured I might as well turn my account into a more personal one.
-
hope all goes well with your next business adventure! and im pretty sure this thread really didn't help your sales at all either.... good luck to you man!
-
Shane@DARK. Company Representative
You're right about this thread. But thanks for the kind words! -
Ya this thread pretty much sucked. I PM'd one of the mods to close it, but it never was. The rude, blind, self centered comments of some users here go to show how harsh people can be. I own my own business as well. I operate it professionally and succesfully, but when I'm with friends or at home, my personal life is my own, and I can do whatever the heck I want. Shane just got unlucky that somebody happened upon his own personal life and they decided to advertise it. Pretty gay.
-
I remembered MICHAELSD01 was stating how passionate and determined he and his brother/cousin are about becoming another Sager dealer, now where is he?
-
I do not think that there was any problem in this thread (at least from my part). Such threads are needed to inform buyers about who they are buying from. Shane is a great guy, as shown through his business dealings and such. It is not slander, for there are no personal negative opinions (at least from the author) in this thread.
