Update on Radeon 7970m (Sager/Resellers)

I have already emotionally invested myself in thinking about how great games will run with a 7970. There is no way I would be willing to cancel my order and go with an technically inferior spec GPU now. Waiting is the only option for me.

The only switching I would be willing to make is going with MSI if they come out in June and say that they will release a 7970M enabled laptop by the end of the month.

 

Urrrgh. While my friends are playing Diablo III, I sit in the outer darkness where there is wailing and gnashing of teeth...

 

They are one of the OEMs that don`t do AMD anymore

 

lol tell me about it!!! Well, I'll be out of the country starting Sunday and wont be back for a week. I'll just wait till I come back and see where things are at that time... then decide on what to do. Hopefully, all of this will be sorted out by then.

wow when will gtx 680m release lol? if my unit arrive that late plus with production and shipping? I rather wait for 680m.

 

Release is June and it's shipping in August according to a reseller post.

680M release at Computex June 5-9th and available in shops/resellers July/August depending on where you buy it

 

So, in other words, the 7970M will still come first to Clevos unless they completely implode.

I ordered within 2 hours of the card being available with ivy (29th april) so that i could be ready to go ASAP for D3 but now im getting shafted!

OK, first off, what is up with the search function lately? I can't get anything to come back when I search threads.

Second (apologies in advance if this is a dumb question), is this issue/delay exclusive to Clevo? In other words, is Alienware going to be affected by this, too? Quickly looked through the pre-order configuration and order status threads for the M17x and didn't see one word about it. Also did a quick configuration on Alienware's site with a 7970M and had an estimated ship date of 6/1/2012.

 

^ I had that question as well. AW also gives an "estimated" shipping date but I am not so sure they would revise it instead of just sending an email later saying that the order has been delayed.

Ah, that's right. I forgot about that xD well I still don't have an answer to your question, although I heard they're still testing whether the 7970M is compatible with HM models.

 

Goodness all. Let's keep this on topic instead of a red team / green team battle. for the moment, team red has the upper hand and I would be surprised if nvidia comes out with anything other than the usual 10%/$150 more rig than the 7970m. No need to insult each others intellegence, no matter how the race heats up between nvidia and amd. Everyone wins when they compete

 

I am not on any team. If nv do their usual stuff and can barely do better at a much higher price I am not moving form AMD. I purchase whatever gives me better performance. I do not have enough money to choose one over the other just because it is made by a certain manufacturer and offers a lesser performance at a higher price but has a certain color on it. I simply do not understand why AMD cannot tell this to us themselves. We shouldn't have to go to a forum to find this out, much less don on a detective cap and go sniffing around Sager's config page to see when they say the ETA on the cards are.

 

So so far out of all the posts here, only 2 people have received their 7970M's.

Who at least has theirs shipped? o.o and how long were you guys in production?

It's one thing to discuss graphics cards, another to start calling each other out for whatever reason ... I've done a little cleanup. I would prefer not to come back and do it again; I scrub much harder the second time.

 

lol i got so confused because page 69 suddenly vanished. i was like o.o

 

i got my went into production on may 18 after I call them for a order confirmation(I don't understand why they need to do this, since I already gave them credit card info and my last laptop from xoticpc doesn't need confirmation), which I think this order confirmation thing slow my process

 

I'm guessing I was allocated for the second shipment, as my order has said "ORDER PENDING - More information needed" since Friday.

 

I went into production on 16th and i was prob one of the first to order. If I dont get into the first batch i will be very disappointed to say the least.

Actually got my shipping info and tracking number today, and ups says it should be delivered on Friday.

As far as I'm aware you could even be 1st shipment which starts shipping out this week.

just got a email saying i was in the 2nd batch and the problem from AMD's will delay the shipment until June 11th, I thought I was in first batch though..oh well..

p.s. I got the email about 7970 on 16th but didn't move to phase 2 until 18th, I guess my sales representive mess up and didn't sent the order confirmation ealier,does people got move to phase 2 on 16th got the email about the 7970 allocation email ealier than 16th?

 

I just got the same email...despite ordering on Apr 30 and going to Phase 2 production on May 17, I ended up with the bad batch, and now my laptop will have to wait until Jun 11th like Chaoskane's to even get built, never mind received.

Wish I hadn't already given my old laptop to my daughter...I leave for a weeklong vacation on June 8th, and now have no computer to take with me.

 

How did you find out you're in the second batch? I haven't received any updates since I was moved on the 18th, and I was requested "expedited production" Damn, I got moved to phase 2 on the 18th even though I ordered on the 29th.

I was really hoping for the laptop to arrive over Memorial Day weekend because that's all the time I really have before I have loads of work from school before summer vacation arrives

I am with you, in FF it doesn't work, Google Chrome works fine on page 69+ but not FF.

We are sending out updates to customers, I am sorry some of you are getting this update but we wanted to keep our customers updated. There are lots of orders that shipped out of the first batch and there are still some in testing. Those of you that didn't get a update are most likely being tested and are likely in the first shipment. It is good for you Sager customers as they have priority allocation from AMD and were the only US Company shipping.
