NP. Even though they stated their case in that post, Mally's offerings and behavior are still confusing (at least to me).

OT, but since you mentioned it, in case you want to give an actual +rep on any post, just click on the middle icon (dunno what it actually depicts) on the left of that particular post.

It's the morning of May 10 here in the U.S. (Malibal is Nevada). I think you have at least 24 hours more to wait. :)

I highly doubt they will have it on May 11th. I spoke with Malibal and the agent told me that they are expecting to start shipping the laptops with the 7970 by the end of NEXT week (week ending 5/19).

From my history of communicating with them, I think ALL (or nearly all) of their part shipments come on Fridays. It was true for their laptop shells before, their Nvidia cards in the past while, and now is their stated ETA for this new AMD card.

In the past, my experiences indicate that if the parts don't come on the stated Friday, the delay will ALWAYS be in multiples of seven days (ie the next Friday's shimpments at the earliest).

this means they should get the cards tomorrow because it takes them 5-7 days to build the laptop before they can ship it

If they're getting the 7970M's tomorrow, they'll be pretty busy since they also emailed me a notice that the 670M's won't be in until about tomorrow as well.

They did say they'll work overtime through the weekend to get the orders out though.

    The wait is strangling me...

Seriously. I'm trying not to get my hopes up too high, but... I really really REALLY freaking hope that they get delivered today :[

Also, I don't know if this matters, but I noticed that for Alienware laptops pretty much all the M17x systems that you could order with the 7970m over the past couple weeks had a ship date of 5/28, no matter when you placed the order. I mean, I spec'd it a couple times because I was considering buying one, and I just noticed that the ship date was *always* 5/28 even when I spec'd it much later on. Alienware would conceivably be getting the 7970m at the same time as the clevo resellers, so maybe that means something... and a ship date of 5/28 for them would definitely jive with everybody getting the actual GPUs on 5/11 to start building... but maybe this is just wishful thinking on my part.

Regardless, I just... really really really hope they arrive today. My birthday is coming up really soon and it would be such a wonderful thing if I actually had my laptop in time for that ^___^

I ordered my P150 last year the week the 6970m was released. It took almost 6 weeks to turn up.
I'm just saying this so all of you waiting for their new laptop aren't surprised when it takes longer than you thought. There's bound to be limited supply and a long queue.

Well, I've been told I'm at the top of the line and there's an additional note on my order that says my laptop will be finished ASAP as soon as the part comes in (due to other difficulties I've had) so I'm sincerely hopeful it won't take 6 more weeks. :( You never know, though. My motto is, "Prepare for the worst, hope for the best!"

Alienware, or Dell whichever you call it manufactures notebooks on a massive scale and there factories are able to quickly able to build notebooks, it should take them in fact only one week to build any notebook with the amount of orders they get. I remember ordering an alienware and only took them a week maybe two because they had such an abundant amount of orders.

It's callled the imperial system in the UK, as in a standard system for the empire. The awkward colonials just changed the name.

At this point I highly doubt Malibal (or any other resellers) has their 7970m. I have contacted Malibal about 2 days ago and asked if they will be getting the card on the 11th. They said, "they don't want to give me a false hope." Which they already did with the post on their forum few days ago..

I also just contacted Xoticpc and they told me the date is still a ETA. So yea.. Not today I don't think.. Hopefully soon!

Who knows if it's delayed? We don't even know when it's "supposed" to be released. They still could have come in today, for all we know, and Sager and the other builders aren't making any announcements until they've at least tested and installed some and know that they work properly. It's not like we've heard one way or another.

I will say this - I'd be shocked if they weren't coming in at some point over the next week, give or take. When I ordered my laptop on xoticpc, the ETA was "late may". So I expect it to be finished and shipping out by the end of May. Maybe it's naive of me to think that. If they expected to get the parts in "late may" and then needed an additional couple weeks to actually build the laptop, I'd expect them to have listed the ETA as "mid-June". And to be perfectly frank, I'm going to be upset enough to attempt to cancel my order on general principle if that's the case.

Regardless, maybe I'm naive in expecting these things to make any amount of sense whatsoever, so correct me if I'm wrong.

edit: I mean, the estimated ship date for an M17x R4 with the AMD 7970m is 5/23, at the moment - a full week sooner than it was two weeks ago, paradoxically. And Dell is typically very accurate with these things. I know they're a bigger company and everything, but my point is that these GPUs obviously exist and either have shipped out or are being shipped out *very soon*. Unless Dell magically gets them weeks before everybody else.

Who knows what's goin on at Malibal. On the 170EM chassis the 675M is a $100 upgrade, the 7970M is a $200 upgrade and the 580M is $300 ...

    That's weird...

The only thing I can think of is that they have some 580m stock left over that they need to get rid of, but they must know that anybody who knows isn't going to pay an extra $200 (over the 675m) for the exact same card.

That might make a few people angry, especially those that decided to buy from there thinking they'd get the 7970m very soon.

It's ok, though. Take a deep breath and realize that it will eventually come and everything will be great.

Edit: There is still a post in their forums saying they were expecting them on the 11th so it was not deleted.

I have a sneaky feeling it will be early next week when it comes in, Mon to Wed. In any case, most important thing for most people is that these cards are stable and that the drivers rock. (I don't mind waiting a bit for proper stuff)
