People who don't know better will. It seems like a desperate attempt to clear stock. Unfortunately for them someone who knows them probably also knows enough about the graphics card scene. Only AW can get away with that sort of rubbish.

I placed my order on May 7th from Xoticpc. They won't charge me until they have all the parts but I hope they get it to me fast as yours.

Well, I placed my order with xoticpc on April 30th, so I sincerely hope I'm at least not at the bottom of the line... doesn't sound like it.

It sure is tempting to cancel my order and get an M17x R4 in a week and a half instead, though. Particularly since the price difference is so minimal. I'm sticking with xoticpc until Wednesday and if I don't hear something by then I'm jumping ship. I need a laptop sooner rather than later, and my intense dislike of Dell unfortunately is overridden by that need :( So you guys can rejoice that there'll be once less person ahead of you if that happens, at least.

So does it mean that ETA late May means that they just start building at that time which will take another 10 days shipping another 3-5 days. So I will receive unit around end of June? Am I right - -? Why this takes so long....

So far it looks like they want to start shipping them late May. If they have stock on time they'll be building them very soon. There's just a waiting line as usual though.

Skinned, eh? I got mine with no branding whatsoever. I dunno why, but I totally love the idea of a notebook with *no* branding on it whatsoever! People will see me using it at a coffee shop or something and be like, "Whoa, what kind of notebook is that?! It had no symbols, no names, no nothing! It's just a plain black notebook! HOW CAN THAT EXIST!?! MY MIND IS BREAKINNGGG!!!"

At least, that's what I imagine peoples' reactions will be. Still, it's cool. Clevo/Sager with no branding is the true ninjabook.

i contacted a few resellers to get confirmation and they all told me they expect to receive the 7970m's themselves late may, and shipping won't take place for 6-10 days after that. Even with fast shipping, at the door 7970m laptops in may seems impossible.

I was hoping that eta of late may was for when we could expect to be receiving the laptops, but looks like it's just when the resellers expect to get stock.

I don't understand why they just don't confirm whether the cards arrived to them on the 11th like they claimed or whether the cards got delayed.

I believe if they confirmed is there , people would sent tons of email like "where is my laptop blah blah blah" everyday. If they just keep it silence, they could save times answering these and do everything slowly.

Back to topic at hand, if I were to order a 7970m notebook in the next two weeks, do you think there would be a problem getting it before August?

Because nobody wants to use the d-word. :p It's just better to actually delay the event, and then announce something is launched, business-wise ofcourse. That way people are left clueless and ultimately met with excitement instead of initial outrage. And after all, clueless people are happy people.. ;)

Plus, the initial shipment could very well be way too small to satisfy the current demand. I'd expect that to be the case. In that case, giving any general statements would just lead to assumptions and false hopes.

Real mature. I'd like Mr. Freeze's suit for X'Mas. But unfortunately, neither of us can get our hands on that which doesn't yet exist in the market. So be patient or be quiet.

Haha, someone mentioned something about lying about resellers shipping during sometime the 11th and did that seem plausible to you? I'm sure late May meant something during the last week and a half of the month. And to go back on topic, the wait lists are ridiculously long so your looking at most likely sometime between 7 ~13 days building time then the additional shipping waiting time. Most people who have ordered it in the past week and upcomming days should be looking towards a 14 day wait after release.

Remember All the resellers with the exceptions of some are getting there parts directly from clevo and the rest are ALL getting there notebooks built mainly from Sager, so can you possibly imagine how many orders they recieved?

I'm not the one calling your comments jokes, nor am I the one calling myself important, nor was I even attempting humor. I was making a point that you'd understand. And dude! Your previous comment wasn't even remotely funny. The only thing you'd hope to achieve from comments like that is provoke the people who'd bring you the 7970M laptop in the first place, and by that I mean any resellers or vendors reading the post. Ever heard the phrase "Mock not the hand that feeds" ? As far as your "get a life!" comment, I'm not wasting anymore of it on explaining myself to you.

Hmm.. What exactly does "late May" mean?? Is it considered late May when its past halfway of the month? The last week of May? The very last day of May?

I'd say last week of May, but in this case that probably means when the cards arrive. Resellers very quiet, up to something I think. Hopefully building.

Well, I've got priority shipping so I'll at least be getting my laptop a day or two after it ships. I'm still fairly displeased about this whole situation but I'm still gonna hold on for a bit, because at the very least since I ordered mine on April 30th I'm bound to be pretty near the top of the list.

What bothers me this is that I almost ordered an M17x from Alienware with the same GPU, but decided on Sager because it was less expensive overall and with the money I saved I could get mine installed with an SSD, as well as a much better wireless card and more RAM, along with the future customizability that Clevo offers. Plus, I figured I'd be better off dealing with xoticpc than Dell. It annoys me that I'd probably have my laptop if I had ordered from Dell (or at least know exactly when I'd have it) but oh well.

edit: I also had a dream last night that I got my laptop :( In the dream it was really disappointing, because even though the laptop was a NP9170 and a ~17" model, it turned out to be smaller than my M11x. I was pretty disappointed. Hopefully that won't be the case in reality.

The resellers are probably quiet because AMD won't commit to delivery dates. AMD won't commit because the 28nm process has been problematic. If you follow desktop cards you can see that nVidia has been chronically sold out of the 670 and 680s. Part of it is demand, but part of it is TSMC is not doing well with their 28nm process. It was behind schedule and yields have been problematic. Then each company only gets so many wafers per day they can have made (have to share with other companies) so they have to choose what gets produced.

Yeah, wouldn't be surprised if that was the case. I suppose you have to anticipate problems with something this new and in so much demand. I had the same thing last year.
I can at least look down smugly at all you tearing your hair out in anticipation, until you get them, and then you can look down smugly at me with a lowly 6970m.

Yes, with new tech come new risks. I remember having pre-ordered the nVidia Geforce 8800M GTX right when it was arriving, and the first batch of customers almost all had theirs fail around exactly two years from purchase. It was a very bad case of engineering on nVidia's part, where the soldering was poorly done, and 50% of that line just failed. This killed my $2700 laptop in it's entirety. Something very important to consider...
