They held the entire shipment once they realized how high the fail rate was.

Their is no way you could build a laptop; even with barebones; in less than 10 minutes. Even someone who does it ALL day; would not physically be able to install the RAM; then HDD [thats the fast part maybe 1-2 minutes for a pro]; then the CPU + Thermal paste [maybe 2-3 minutes if being careful and done by a pro] then attach the Heatsink carefully to the CPU [2 minutes im guessing]; then you have to install the GPU and thermal paste [2-3 minutes?] Then attach the heatsink [2 minutes]. Then on top of this they have to unscrew/screw the tops back on [1 minute] and possibly install the keyboard [2-3 minutes], then install the custom screen if its not stock [2 minutes] Then install the custom Wifi card if ordered [1 minute]. Then they have to do a quality check afterwards im sure which could take 5 minutes to meticulously check every part is secure/properly installed. This puts the build time at 15-20 minutes, for a normal person it would easily double that; these are just estimates that could of course be completely off; but I think they are semi-accurate. I doubt they could EVER build a whole custom laptop and check to make sure its legit afterwards in the 1-2 minutes it takes to unbox a laptop....
Leaving the laptops boxed up in a warehouse would be their best bet if they have their customers in mind and want them to get the laptops ASAP; yes they'd use their resources better if they were to just use those barebones for 675m orders; but what about all of the time they are also saving by having the 7970m machines ready so that all they have to do is a 5-6 minute GPU install [including taking off the bottom of the lappy and opening the box] when they arrive. And many of these companies have SPARE SPACE in the warehouse; i've been to one and the warehouse was only being about 30% utilized. They could order extra barebones and take the small financial hit in order to save time down the road. It wouldn't be the end of the world to them and it would make the customers much more satisfied. -
I'm glad we got all the logistics figured out for Sager. I hope they're reading this thread.

The problem has been solved. All BBs are leaving China within a few days. Actual delivery time will vary between resellers.

EXACTLY TWO weeks that took. What a coincidence. I was reading this two weeks ago at around 10 am local time and now it is around 10 am two weeks ago and this lol.
-
They better be paying for frickin' rush shipping to all the builders...
-
If it is coming from China, I doubt rush shipping will make much of a difference.

So Sager just posted this:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/sag...ates-clevo-hm-model-series-8.html#post8580162 -
Is that referring to the quality issues they held the shipment of 7970M's?
Someone posted that they found the fault and the shipments will resume, do we have any confirmation of this? -

They say at this point they have not had to make bios changes although still sorting driver issues at the moment. So perhaps that my change. -

Plus I assume they have enough engineers that they can work on a couple different projects at any one time.
Although I would bet the current 7970M issue was indeed top priority. -
Yes, it was reported they would start shipping again soon, and that the 7970m is working in hm models, albeit with driver issues. Exellent news.

Has anyone heard from Xotic regarding the newest update to the 7970's?
-
-
-
-
He means the issue that was located at Clevo/AMD end was resolved and they will now ship out the 7970m cards to resellers e.g XoticPC/Prostar etc. which in turn will build our beloved laptops and send them to us
-
If you ordered from Xotic and didn't request anything extra in terms of customizations (like skins, or certain accessories) your notebook will ship directly from Sager. Which means if Clevo got their act together and are shipping barebones from China to Sager in California, Sager will shorty be shipping them directly to you. For most of us, a stop at Xotic PC in Nebraska isn't necessary.
Another exception is if you are trying to (erroneously) avoid California sales tax by sending it to Xotic and then having them mail it to you. (I say erroneously because you should be paying a use tax anyway) -
-
I'm sure this has been answered somewhere, but is this shipment going to clear out the backlog so that new orders can start shipping immediately? In other words, if we purchase a 7970 now, will our order ship once the new batch arrives? Or will we be stuck in the queue for the batch after that?

Supply is easy too, just make more cards. I think we may be making Sager and Clevo angry by contemplating on whether they understand basic economics.

There seems to be a lot of speculation regarding supply of 7970M.
Let me explain how it works. Builders order BBs from Clevo with X-lead time. (X is usually 2-3 weeks). Clevo says yes we can do this or no we cannot depending on supply of materials. At this moment there is no immediate shortage of materials meaning supply is entirely dependent on the forecast/orders that builders have made to Clevo.
By builders I refer to direct importers eg. Sager. -

I'm looking forward to an ETA of delivery to resellers.
Been waiting so long and I'm looking forward to my new sexy laptop so much! -
-
hope that keeps spirits up. -

Well, it's official. I had to switch my order from the 7970m to the 675m. Good luck to the rest of you guys waiting for 7970's. Unfortunately, my time frame inhibits me from waiting until they're readily available.
-
Correction: I just checked it is not showing as being on back order anymore.. -
-
TBH I don't need to upgrade with my G73JH in hand, I just love upgrading and opportunity raised it's head and found the one I wanted. -
On the bright side, this will allow me time to see how the 7970m versus 680m plays out, and time to wait and see if a 7990m or 685m materializes. -
I don't know where to post this but since I'm getting a 7970m with my laptop I think I'll just post it here.
I just want to ask what does this mean?
06/04/2012 Phase 2 (Sent for Custom Building / Testing / Burn In & Final QA) SO#573382 TH
I opened my xoticpc account and got this message. Can anyone help me? I don't know what SO#573382 TH means. I don't know if this has anything to do with the 7970m or something else. Sorry for being such a noob. -

That's good news for me
It's so nice to hear that. I hope I'm included in the next batch of 7970m that are coming. Crossing my fingers. Thanks alot Prasad!
