Update on Radeon 7970m (Sager/Resellers)

With the vast amount of orders we are focusing first on production and to get units out the door. (just as we did weeks ago when we first started shipping) We are expecting to clear up back orders within 1-2 weeks and then start working on new orders.

 

Hopefully mine will be shipped this week Ordered on May 13th. I wont be getting my hands on the laptop till mid July but the fact that my friend in the US will be receiving it in a week is so exciting!!

This is EXHILARATING considering the supposedly loooong wait.

 

Sounds good, I was figuring you guys would be churning them out as quickly as possible, just wanted see if I could get some more info

 

We have been active here on NBR for years and enjoying giving you all the latest news as we know about it. Extra staff is chomping at the bit to build & ship.

same here! unfortunately i received an email-reply yesterday (i asked if my order would ship this week) and they said they couldn't promise me that the notebook will be shipped on friday. so... i still hope it will be shipped this week but i guess i'll get it on monday/tuesday next week :/

 

MacBook Pro, eat your heart out . 7970m > 650m

 

new macbook pro is retarded, the only good thing about it is the retina display which is 2880 by 1800, which I admit is gorgeous but on a 15" kinda overkill. They charge $600 more for this computer than a sager and you get a GFX that is 3x less powerful. All kind of silly

 

apple products have always been like that.

Anyways talked to my reseller, they already charged me and said it will be shipped either today or tomorrow for sure.

I disagree the fact that the macbook Pro is releasing a laptop thinner than the Razer with a retina screen and a Gtx 650 is sick! If Apple was able to pull it off with a 660m I would have actually canceled my order with Malibal.

I use my laptop for work, personal computer, and a desktop replacement gamer so I take all factors into account. You can not deny the reliability and portability of the Macintosh.

All that being said... I still can't wait for my P150EM! I hear from Malibal that all customers will have an updated ETA on shipping dates by the end of this week

 

It's... *ehem* an Apples to oranges comparison. lol You are quite right that the MBP is quite an overall package for what it is. It's not an uber powerhouse like it's being compared to, but it looks to pack a lot of punch per cubic inch, and with a crazy display and battery life on top of that. It will lose to a lot of other laptops on the spec sheet, but could fit a lot of people's uses very well.

But, it's not really a gaming laptop. I get the feeling a lot of folks in this forum area are interested in performance above most else, at which point the MBP makes little sense. I personally spent about 5 minutes reading about it before I had no interest in making a purchase.

 

Just a reminder that, what defines a gaming laptop is the graphics card.

new macbook pro advertising 7 hour battery life....

i remember when my friend was buying one last year it advertised 5-6 hours battery life but he could never get much over four even if he was just browsing casually

im getting 6300n not the killer card but i am getting the 95% color gamut matter screen so idk if that will delay it much

That's always the case with battery life for devices. Rarely, if ever, do manufacturers publish realistic battery specs. They post "best case" specs. In the case of laptop it is like "Screen on minimum brightness, WiFi off, no disk access, one app running, etc."

So whatever the manufacturer claims, you generally have to knock a bit off of that to get a realistic assessment. Also depends on how you use it, of course.

Also an important thing to note/remember is that laptop cards suck. They are usually half or less as powerful as their named desktop equivalent. So while a desktop 7970 is overkill for basically everything out there a 7970M is actually a slow 7870. Still does well, of course, but there are games that it can't handle all the way cranked, it isn't the total overkill the desktop card is.

Hence the GPU on laptops matters even more than desktops. A mid-range or even lower end desktop GPU can be good for gaming but a low end laptop GPU is usually pathetic. That's because a high end laptop GPU is the same as a mid-range desktop GPU, and they drop off quick.

That's the reason I decided to stick it out for the 7970M, though I'm starting to get real worried if it will get here in time. GPU power is not something laptops have in excess, even with the highest of the high end.

 

Thanks for REMINDING everyone in here and the new laptop GPU's do not suck, only when compared to desktop GPU's. But the fact that you can bring your "above average" gaming rig anywhere you go, does not suck. Just the last two years, laptop GPU's weren't even close to the lower end desktop GPU's but now the 7970m and 680m can be compared to GTX 560/580 desktops. Next year the laptop GPU's might even be as strong as a GTX 590 and higher, as long as AMD and Nvidia keeps releasing everything they've got to compete with each other.

 

I have to disagree with this really... Pretty sure the ability to possess a GTX 460/6850 level GPU in your laptop shows that it's pretty potent, referring to the 6990M and 580M, with certain laptops now featuring dual GPUs. Now they juuust about doubled that firepower with the 7970M and 680M for both the single and dual GPU machines. Having the power of a GTX 680 in your laptop is... insane...

 

I suppose with a dual GPU they can have an excess of GPU power, for awhile. Of course not many of those around, they are expensive, and not all games scale to multiple GPUs.

I'm talking about single GPUs. Have a look at the 7970M specs compared to the desktop parts some time. 1280 shaders vs 2048 (62%), 80 texture units vs 128 (62% again), 850MHz vs 925MHz (92%), 1200 MHz memory vs 1375MHz (87%).

All adds up to something half-ish the speed of the desktop part. No problem, still plenty to rock the games, but not just a stupid excess of power like the desktop part. On the desktop, it would be mid range.

So there's reason to want higher end parts in a laptop if games are the thing. Also games always increase in their demands so what works fine now won't forever.

 

I really hope there is no delay...i ordered on april 29....and i still waiting for mine. Justing is there a back order for network killer wireless?... Is this going to affect my order?kk

 

Dude I ordered mines on May 15th and my laptop is about to ship tomorrow. Have they charged your credit card if that was your payment method? I didn't get the killer wifi that's probably why I went ahead of you...

Just got my tracking number from xoticpc as well. Ordered May 7, went to phase 2 on May 16. I should have it on Friday. Can't wait!

 

I ordered from xotic on April 29th, and for some reason I'm still in Phase 1. I hope that's just an oversight and my unit was shipped yesterday, but I'm not holding my breath over it.

Weeooo! Mine went into Phase 3 this morning at 8AM CST - ordered a custom skin, so I'll still be waiting a bit. Xotic is all over this like the honey badger on a cobra.

Ordered on May 14, Phase 2 on the 16th.
