Update on Radeon 7970m (Sager/Resellers)

I think the queueing system is to prioritize premium orders (bf3 humor).

BTW sagernotebook shows all screens for the 9150 backordered until 6/19 now ( was 6/13 ).

 

Don't worry guys, once they start production on your laptop it will only take them 1-2 days to finish it. They just got the cards on monday and my laptop shipped Tuesday afternoon. MY Specs were mostly stock including the wifi and thermal paste so my laptop was built in a day.

This is from a few pages back, but...

It sounds like delays on the 7970m may be going away quickly, though it's obvious these things can change quickly. I just placed my order a couple days ago, but combining my experience so far with what I've gleened from this forum, there's a lot that influences how quickly you'll get your laptop:

- Payment method - a lot of the resellers are offering a 2-3% discount for a "cash" payment, so they can avoid credit card and other banking fees. It's a great discount that makes a lot of sense, but the advantage of credit cards and such is that they're pretty much instant. The resellers can't/don't submit your order until they know they have truly been paid, so they have to both receive the payment & wait for it to clear. In my case, I mailed a check, so I can figure 2-3 biz days for the mail to arrive, plus the time it takes for the check to clear, before the order is really set in stone and they start moving forward to fulfill it.

- Parts delays - This one is obvious since you're in this thread, but parts delays happen. From the sound of things, Sager has received all the 7970m's they need to fulfill current orders. Hopefully they've received more than that, so that there won't be another delay on that front in the immediate future, but there could be. Then there are delays with certain screens & wifi cards. There's not really a good way to know you're not going to get delayed when you order.

- Waiting in line - Not sure how long it'll take Sager to catch up on orders, but I could see their efforts to catch up on the backlog of 7970m system orders setting back new orders at least several days. But there's also a chance they will be caught up by the time your payment clears, and this wouldn't affect you.

- Shipping - It's not winter or Christmas, so it's not likely, but shipping delays happen.

Overall, if you want a system with a fast & clear delivery date, you're going to have to order a pre-configured, pre-manufactured system. I was very tempted by this option, and just about pulled the trigger on an MSI GT60 from Newegg with 2-day shipping. Judging by some of the order dates folks have mentioned, some will have been waiting around 2 months since they placed their order. I don't get the impression this is at all normal, but life happens. It seems something like 1.5-2.5 weeks is much more typical.

 

If you select a "Secured Payment" Option, then they process your order immediately with your Credit Card details, but they don't complete the transaction. What you actually pay is the Check (which has the 3% Cash Discount). So it's like a win-win situation for you + the re-sellers.

But yes, pre-configured is always the quickest..

If you guys are just ordering now, I suggest going to Sager website and order with the "Rush" option. It should start being built once they are able to receive payment..

 

As the XoticPC rep mentioned, the Sager folks are privileged as Mythlogic stated that they will not even receive the cards until early-mid next week.

 

Cool, I ordered mine on the 6th as well, and although I know I should expect a much longer wait time as I am much further down the list I really am getting eager to see mine.

 

I'm glad to see a lot of people getting their orders from Xotic. Count yourself lucky: I ordered a 9150 at the end of April, and paid by check which was cashed in early May. When I found myself in the dreaded "2nd group" I switched it to a 9170 at the end of May (which I hope means I'm avoiding any 9150 screen delays). Unfortunately as of tonight I'm still stuck where I've been all along, in Phase 1, waiting for parts.

 

if you ordered from a reseller, I don't think this affects you so much. I think the screens are on backorder, if you order now directly from sager, because all of them have gone to the ressellers.

 

Again today tracking #'s are being updated as we speak for orders shipped yesterday. Bunch more out the door!

Yes, unfortunately so, because I had a very well defined time limit to buying a laptop..

 

Makes sense. I'm glad that I have a two month buffer for the laptop to arrive, but I understand not everyone has that luxury. Enjoy!

 

My CPU shipped w/ a 7970. I'm planning to swap in a 256 SSD drive and another 8GB of Ram.

Will I need to download any drivers or anything to make this happen? I'm not exactly sure how to delete windows off the 7200rpm drive thats coming w/ the CPU and how to load it on the SSD Drive.

I'm going to look at youtube to see how to access the spot in the CPU for the SSD.

Not to be rude, but do not even wield a screw driver at the general direction of that laptop until you know what a CPU is, and how to manually install windows on any system. I'm trying to help that u don't mess up your obviously expensive purchase.

 

its because SAGER is located at CA. Orders that do not need customization from XoticPC in NE are coming directly from SAGER in my knowledge.

 

Some SSD drives come with a kit ( software/usb cable ) that will basically clone your current HD image to the ssd. Then you swap them to make the ssd the primary.

As for deleting Windows off the original HD if you have a secondary bay just install it there and treat it as a second drive. Can delete / cleanup as you wish.

 

I'm getting mine pre-formatted. As in, I've ordered for an SSD in the laptop & no OS installed on it.
So what I wanted to know id whether the OS installation would be simple like on a HDD or would I need to insert a USB before installing with the SSD drivers. (Never handled an SSD before)

Well I now know that my order placed back in April STILL has not shipped, because I got an email from Xotic that I was charged the wrong amount and they need to charge more on my credit card before they can ship it... This is just rediculous...

 

Damn! The same thing happened to me..but they caught the mistake early on. Apparently they applied an extra discount for which I wasn't eligible.

Sweet! Most of us will have to wait till next week I guess..

Don't feel bad mine still lists that it is in Phase 1 waiting parts (7970). My guess is at least next week before mine ships.

Yea, I've never had to worry about installing windows before. I'm a noob.

I've installed ram and harddrives, and taken apart keyboards and such before, I'm not worried about doing that stuff right. More so the software portion i'm less familiar with.

I looked up your order and I am sorry it looks like you were mistakenly given the NBR $50 discount twice (as you probably know) and it was caught while your laptops was going through testing. Your machine should ship any day now

That sounds like I won't be getting mine until July since I also got the Steelseries Keyboard.

 

I feel like they should have just given you the double discount if the mistake was on their end. Instead they chose to delay your order further to recoup $50?

 

I just received a tracking number from mysn.de .
My baby is on it's way to Greece with DHL. Mysn.de very professional and right on time.

 

There was no delay on the order it was (and still is) going through regular testing when the error was caught.

 

So have any machines requiring customization from Xotic started being shipped out or is it only the direct from Sager machines so far?

Well that puts things into perspective, I ordered mine on the 27th and changed from the 9150 to the 9170 on the 1st, so I will likely not see mine shipped until Monday or Tuesday I would imagine.

 

Mine went to production! Ordered 5/18. They said 9-16 days to build and 8 to ship. Is that right?
