Gizmodo likes to exaggerate.
But they're not wrong. Name a smaller and/or lighter notebook with the same or better specs..?

Unless you want to void your warranty you won't be opening up that Razer. They void warranty for even attempting to open it up. I'm certain it will contain a single mSATA slot that you will have to get preconfigured with the laptop. That reason alone I won't touch it even if it's $1200. -

I'm beginning to believe it will be the 128-bit now though... better go call out Prema on his info then. -

I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder but I don't understand the infatuation with products that mimic Apple. The market is saturated with phones and tablets that want to be iPhones and now laptops that want to copy the macbook design. That Razer is just another addition that that ever growing group. It boasts quite a spec sheet, but it's design doesn't seem practical in terms of expandability, and cooling. I'd rather it be a little thicker to cool efficiently and offer me more hardware options. That's just being realistic...
I actually prefer the look of the W230ST because it definitely isn't another ultrabook knockoff, and it doesn't scream gaming computer by any means either. Oh and it doesn't have any flashy colors or alien heads on the exterior. That is one of the reasons that Sager/Clevo chassis caught my eye when first researching outside the mainstream last year. I really liked their almost 80's business appearance with hard lines and slight bevels. Some Lenovos have the same look and feel to them. I think this model will offer a good balance between portability/size and gaming prowess, and it won't be an ultrabook wannabe either. And that's why many resellers are predicting that this will be a top seller. Not because they are just copying Apple, but because of an intelligent balance of the two ends of the spectrum. -

The apple like design of the razer doesnt scream gamer as well, just that obnoxious symbol on the back, in the I really like and Im quite baffled that they will only use the 765m on the 17 as well, they really could have up the anthem with the 770m, maybe the cooling didnt handle it well, much like their first gen 17. And that is actually one thing that gets me concerned, the cooling of that machine
aside that what mSATA are they using, and if they are going to launch a 16gb version, probably not, since the ram is soldered -
In case you missed it, here is a summary about the GeForce GTX 765M, GTX 770M, and GTX 780M models.
In Review: Nvidia GeForce GTX 780M, GTX 770M & GTX 765M - NotebookCheck.net Reviews -
Guess it wasn't a fake then:
Graphics card Total performance
GeForce GTX 780M Basis (average of 30 games)
GeForce GTX 680M -22 %
Radeon HD 7970M -23 %
GeForce GTX 770M -29 %
GeForce GTX 675MX -39 %
GeForce GTX 765M -48 %
GeForce GTX 670MX -52 %
Wondering how much higher the memory of the GTX 765M can be OC though. -
hmmm 30% faster at stock than a 7970m....i might not be able to hold back on getting myself a 780m, after all....
back to topic: its pretty awesome to have a 670mx+ chip in a 13 inch shell! with a decent 20% oc one might be able to reach 770m levels. aint that something!

The thing to hope for would be standard voltage T2C letting it get up to 1450-1500mhz like my 7770M. That would give 96GB/sec bandwidth.

GeForce GTX 765M | Specifications | GeForce
765m specs finally revealed.
GPU Engine Specs:
768 CUDA Cores
850 + BoostClock Freq (MHz)
Memory Specs:
2000 Memory Clock (MHz)
GDDR5 Standard Memory Configuration
128 bitMemory Interface Width
64.0Memory Bandwidth (GB/sec)
Not too bad. 192-bit would have been ideal, but with those clock speeds performance should be comparable. -
Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
as you can clearly see the bus is not wide enough for the load, so i got 2 trucks instead -
That just looks like an accident waiting to happen.
I did hope for a wider bus too, but alas, we still have a pretty impressive performance part. So far performance seems to be between 670mx an 675mx, which is not too shabby. My concern for longevity is the 1080p screen, that you'll have to reduce resolution. -

I think the GPU clock is pretty darn good, it's the freaking 128-bit bus that bugs me the most. But we'll see. Would love to see Clevo surprise us with a 770m instead.
Or even a lower clocked 770m, like 650/750 vs 800/1000. But alas we got the short bus.
-
Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
you know the recipe for a 770? clock much more the vram and a little bit on the core, I take that we are bandwidth starved and vram speed starved
-
Seriously, a 64GB/s bandwidth for a 768 cores on 863MHz clock, not to forget a Boost 2.0 function which may boost to 900MHz.
The GTX 650 Ti have 86GB/s bandwidth for a 768 cores on 928MHz.
The GTX 650 Ti Boost have 144.2GB/s bandwidth for a 768 cores on 980MHz with 1033MHz boost.
Not so much difference on the core clock, but huge difference on the memory bandwidth.
Due to that, the GTX 650 Ti Boost is roughly 35%(100-74=26, 26/74=35) more faster than the GTX 650 Ti non-boost.
Yeah, we need more bandwidth for sure. -
But if you want desktop performance, in an inexpensive package, you're going to have to buy a desktop.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
You are just going to have to clock that memory up before touching the core.

Depending on make the 780m will go to 1500-1750mhz on the memory.

Hi, I've been following this thread for a while - thanks for all the information!
Regarding the performance of the 765M, notebookcheck have posted a review with this card in a 15" Clevo chassis: Review Schenker W503 (Clevo P150SM) Notebook - NotebookCheck.net Reviews
Looking forward to how the W230ST turns out! -
Not been keeping up to date with events; just had a quick read through the last few pages - NDA not yet been lifted/still no idea of a release date?
What are we looking at - late July/early August? -
NDA lifts tonight, but this model is coming only in July.
-
Tonight?
Ah that's good to know! -
Perma do you have a time tonight?
-
-
Do you have the specs to share when the time comes? If so I will give you a million cool points.

July!? Damn, I might just end up buying one of those new MSIs then...

Review Schenker W503 (Clevo P150SM) Notebook - NotebookCheck.net Reviews
Power consumption
While idle the 15-incher demands slightly more power than other gaming notebooks. With 17-28 Watt the power consumption is just under 50% faster than the reviewed One M73-2N (10-19 Watt) with Core i7-3740QM and GeForce GTX 675MX. Under load it is the other way round. While the Schenker W503 needs about 102 Watt during 3DMark 06, the One M73-2N requires 113 Watt. Under full load the power consumption is, with 156 vs. 186 Watt, significantly lower. -

Maybe it will go with the 4702 35W CPU...

Razer Blade - Compact 150W Power Adapter
-
Actually that Razer Blade is quite tempting. 1600x900 screen, 4.2 lbs, 0.7" thick, quad core CPU, GTX 765m, and 256GB SSD is looking like the stock choice based on the Razer site under specs. $1800 is a bit expensive, but if you look at this W230ST, if it's $1200 stock, adding a 256GB SSD will add $250... meh, still $350 less expensive, lol.
-
The MSI ge40 is also 14" 900p, 4.4lbs, gt760m and like $600 cheaper.
-
OMG OMG OMG its past midnight, what are the speeeeeeecs
-
-
It makes me worried that if the MSI which are usually around the same price as Sager is $1200 with its specs that the W230ST may be closer to $1400.
MSI GE40 vs Clevo W230ST:
14" vs 13.3"
1600x900 vs 1920x1080
760m vs 765m(?)
Std vs Backlit(?) keyboard -
W230ST will NOT be $1400 stock price. It'd be suicide to price it as such. If it is then I'm considering the Razer Blade instead.
And NDA may be 12 midnight Pacific Time too. Just go to bed and check in the morning. -

In where the Razer 14"? Yes I did. But that means nothing to me, as long as there's two SATA slots of some sort, I'm OK with that.
Problem is with the Razer Blade you void warranty if you open it up, so forget about voiding an $1800 laptop warranty, no thanks. -
Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
and for me its irrelevant, I wont have a warranty, only some notebooks here that you buy elsewhere can be serviced, oh wait I have international warranty! doesnt matter we dont have the parts, we dont give a crap, so get out of our place
thats how it works
-
Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
OK its well past midnight in whatever part of the word, its 10:40am here, finally awake and taking a dump
Come on, my thread doesnt update itself -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
I think the 14" blade looks like a cool machine, very good for a certain type os user.
-
So far the new models are only showing support for Windows 8
. Clevo's drivers also only show Windows 8, and nothing on Sager's site yet. Although at XoticPC there is the option to install Windows 7. I hope there's Windows 7 drivers, or I guess we'll have to have a comprehensive list of driver downloads from the respective component OEM's to use in these laptops. I refuse to use Windows 8.
Just hope Clevo hotkey support isn't tied to this hardware with Windows 8 only. -
Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
and on thinking news, has anyone thought about what they should with rain + cold + 2 cats dividing the lap and the blanket with you (obviously you are losing the ground, those guys are voracious predators of heat) + impossibility to order food + grumpy father in the house for a congress = all is lost! the end is nigh! repent sinners! and humans are a blight on the galaxy -
If I have some extra money and don't mind spending it on a laptop, I would just get the Razer Blade with a 512GB SSD, and be done with it.
-
Razer did a good job again on the power adapter.
Last time they created a 120W adapter that is very light(0.75lbs) and thin, in fact lighter and thinner than most 90W adapter out there.

Wasn't the NDA supposed to lift today?
Specs would be cool. Deciding between this and a car.
