Would 1080p even be a benefit on a 13" laptop? I remember is looking pretty small on my 17".

I would definitely go for 900p with such a sreen size, also more comfortable when gaming :) I just hope the 900p display will be as good as the 1080p model :(

I agree, unless you plan on doing something beside gaming you shouldn't need 1080p.. I still hope the price will be less than $1100, but it's highly unlikely. :[

If you want to do any serious desktop work, 1080p is necessary. For gaming not so much. It will be a tough decision for me, especially not knowing the quality differences between the screen. I hope we know before the laptops ship!

i too would like to know the specs of both panels. for gaming 900p would probably be preferable, but in the end I will probably go for whichever is the higher gamut.

very not likely that the base price will be for a 1080p with a downgrade price for 900p unles its an introductory offer. so like the price difference is neglible. but it defo will be 900p base price. and maybe around 50-100 £or$ for 1080p. it did sound hoever likely that 1080p was standard but. nobody would pay a premium for a downgrade and companies wouldnt lose money with the option to downgrade from screen options.
    be nice though.
id have to weigh up the price options of all upgrades and what i can send at time. it iwll look nice on 900p anyway. it will take less AA on 1080p especially on a 13" screen so thats good thing on performance .

900P for me it is. I just wish it to be an IPS screen. Its a very hard decision cant make up my mind between this one or the new Razer 14" .

Clevo do have more experience with this size of high powered system so that may pay off for them.

Worth waiting for a review of each, the screen would lean me towards the sager/clevo though.

I would go for the clevo just for the display (and the price too :D ) . A TN display is a joke considering the price range they want to sell those beast.
I really love the idea though. Next year revision of the 14" might be interesting because I'm sure they will add a full hd IPS display to it or even maybe an IGZO screen (especially if they keep pulling those prices down as they already did with the 17" blade).

indeed, Im thinking the panel on the razer is the same one in the x1c, which is meh if compared to the higher grade panels that clevo uses

you know its interesting, there was an interview with min-liang tan stating that he didnt choose the IGZO panel because it wasnt there yet for gamers, I agree, the others that want work to be done on the same notebook, disagree completely me included

do you guys think this little guy will be able to play battlefield 4 nicely ? I've seen videos on YT ppl with same range card in benchmarks playing bf3 on ultra with 50+ frame rate.. I dunno if its just me but the specs are on par with next gen consoles am I right? Also its great to see next gens are x86 cpu based so ports to PC will be much better optimised. What are your thoughts on this matter? regards

exactly this. the problem with all 14" laptops is that all 14" HD+ screens are pretty dire when it comes to viewing angles / contrast / gamut, I really hope 13.3" variety will be a little better (it would be hard for it to be worse).

Does the 900p screen have better battery life than 1080p? (since it's almost 1.5x more pixels)
I think I'm gonna buy it with the 1080p screen unless the other one lasts more on battery.

I think more resolution always benefits until it reached 300 ppi which is the human eye cant differentiate beyond.

That completely depends on viewing distance.

For example we will need much more than 300 PPI for the ultimate VR headset.

At 25cm you're looking at over 1000 PPI before the human retina is unable to differentiate the pixels. At 40cm it's around 750 PPI.

So we are not even close yet.

Numerous studies you can find via google estimate the maximum resolution of the human retina to be between 0.3 and 0.4 arc-minutes.

Through some rather complicated maths and trigonometry you can then calculate required PPI figures at specific viewing distances.

So I'm between this and the razer blade 14". I currently have a sager np 8130 which has served me well since 2011. However, my career has blossomed in the past two years and I am on the road every week. As you can imagine, I am tired of lugging around the 10 lb beast on trip after trip, be it cross country US or international.

Given the assured price difference, I am leaning towards this sager. However, I cannot STAND the touchpad on my 8130. Whenever I am typing the cursor just jumps around because soemhow my hand touches the touchpad. I've never seen or experienced that on any other laptop and it is just infuriating. Do we know anything at the touchpad here yet? It drives me so nuts that I literally can't buy this if it is the same crap touchpad.

I wouldnt call an equation and some convertion "rather complicated" maths and trigonometry. And 0.3-0.4 arc-min is the maximum possible so it's not really practical. People need to force their eyes to really see difference at that rate. I used 0,6 arc-min for resolution and the result was about 485 ppi from 30 cm distance for a 13.3" screen. That means we are not there yet but we are not that far either.

If 0.3 to 0.4 is the actual limit then that is what you need to use to calculate the necessary PPI. You don't need to do any 'forcing' if you have good eyesight, that is the limit.

Anyway even using your figures we're still almost double the 300 PPI you originally stated, especially at close viewing distances.

Let's get back on topic now.

Nice shot of the keyboard there with the backlight on in the dark, also gives you the option of a 4930XM. It looks to me like they might have increased the key travel as you can see a gap beneath the key from which light is shining, on this W550EU there's no such gap, you can't see the bottom of the key

I just hope it is mid-July, and not August by the time we get in in UK.

Pleased with the weight not being over 2kg.

Still not sure with the screen which res is the best option - 1600x900 is still pretty small on 13" (I'm used to 1680x1050 on a 22" monitor), so if I'll have to enlarge text anyway then perhaps 1920x1080 might be better.

Naaw, my favourite reseller just said they'll only take orders in 4-6 weeks I. E. When the things supposedly ship. Sad now but it gives me time to work out what I'll do with the W550EU, want to sell it but transfer of warranty might be a pain, so I could just grab the parts :/

Ha! I'll raise and kick your dog and ox and up by an elephant!

Ok, Looks like Alienware is losing its way again.

Their 14" is spec'ed similar to the other 14" out there but it's a whopping 6 lbs and stock is 750m and 1366x768 screen.

But they do offer the 765mx and 1080p matte.

i saw it, its at least 6.1 instead of 6.5, its a very minor improvement, but I like the 1080p IPS display in there, in the end I even might recommend it for mentally deranged people or people that like small notebooks for portability and forget that weight also counts
