Just saw the GE40 scores low in the FF14 benchmark...guess I'll wait and see how much the w230st actually prices at. Depending on how close the price point is to the razer I might even go that route :\
-
You mean the W230ST?
From my local(Malaysia) clevo customize reseller called illegear.

Stock haven't arrive, but soon.
Something is definitely wrong with that score(1185 points).
Even my vaio scores around 32xx points using 1600x900 maximum settings. -
Optimus enabled, running iGPU?
-
That's probably the issue, it was likely running on the integrated card. Apparently the 760m is about on par with the 670m, which is pretty decent. I can get the GE40 for around $1100, which will at a minimum be a few hundred less than the clevo...so many choices this time around.
-
Can I ask why the gigabyte "ultrablades" keep getting overlooked? Similar specs but damn thin and sexy too...
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 4 Beta -
oh yes i have seen the gigabytes on youtube. it is nice and sleek but i did want the most powerfulest in the most compact size. but if the price is right. im sure it will get more mentions. they did quite well with there last gen model with the 640m.
-
yea i think w230st WILL be quite expensive. it has features you mainly see on a business class laptop like WWAN and ips screen merged with everything gaming. and 3 so-dimm slots aswell as msata and hard drive slot. and a gtx card. and crammed into something spectacular. thats more of a feat than the sony Z series and cheaper lol regardless if ou maxed out a w230st lol.
basically a fully spec'd w230st can price match 17" alienware. -
MSI GE40 doesn't have a backlit keyboard or does it?
So far though I find the Clevo the best of features and options, plus it's smaller than the rest in footprint. You have a 15 day return policy with Razer, almost tempted to buy a 14" to review and return it. Maybe I'll just ask their P.R. department if I can get one for review.
The one comment johnbots made was that the screen didn't look so great. That would be my concern. Spend $2000+ for a small notebook and get a crap screen? No thanks. -
Found a video, the presenter doesn't do a fab job but it's getting closer

The problem with the Gigabyte models is they are usually very difficult to come by. The U2442 was near impossible to locate. The P34G comes with 1080p and 760m, the P35 comes with 1080p IPS and 765m with a swappable bay for optical drive or HDD/SSD. They do look tasty, I personally just prefer a 13" over 14" though.
Here's a Youtube video, looks like a cheesy infomercial but still has decent look at the machine.

I was watching for viewing angles, seems good left to right and I'm not sure about vertical but it looks like we have good panels
-
Haha that as is so bad... But yeah spec wise it's very tempting vs. The w230st... Ultimately my purchase will come down to availability and pricing...

Not sure if it got mentioned before but that video indicates a intel 7260 wireless card which supports 802.11ac.... And I just got a 802.11ac router

Absolutely. When I first heard about the Clevo 13" it seemed like it was in a class all its own. Then all these other 14" notebooks started popping up with similar features and performance. It all depends on size, performance, weight, and cost. A good balance. I really don't want a 760m though, want 765m, so that eliminates the MSI and Gigabyte right away. And as much as I didn't think I'd be considering the Blade, it may end up not being a half-bad option. Although I start to cringe thinking I'm going to spend $2000 for a secondary laptop. I was budgeting $1500 which was high to begin with. So we'll have to wait and see. I'm willing to wait before I shell out hundreds of more dollars for no reason.
I basically wanted an upgraded W110ER but with larger screen and resolution because the screen was too small to make it really useful to be productive. -
I'm in a very similar boat to you.. One big thing for me though is resolution. I do a lot of work from home, and 1080p panel is almost a must... and admittedly i would like 765m card, but if that card = $500 price difference or another month of waiting, I might look at the alternative.
Either way, competition is a good thing.. I just wish they'd hurry up and release it already. I'm reaching my limit with my current 12" laptop with sandybridge IGP only! :'( -
Lol you are from Malaysia? Me too but Illegear does come with OS so it's probably RM 4k plus but still cheaper than Razer Blade.
-
Hi there. I think you meant doesn't? Yup, usually it doesn't come with OS, so yeah it'll cost around RM4k plus with OS.
Btw, good news is the new 120W is looking much better than the previous gen.
Slimmer and weight at 0.462 kg compared to the previous 0.72kg adapter. -
Great movie btw!
-
I'm just glad NotebookCheck are gonna review it, if that's the message to take away from that image, pretty thorough reviews.
-
That picture is actually from a review on here:
Review Schenker XMG A523 (Clevo W350ST) Notebook - NotebookCheck.net Reviews
I read through quite a bit before realising it was the W350ST! -
In that video are the two laptop of choice I am currently struggling to choose, the one next to the w230st is pretty awesome IPS 1080 screen, i7 with iris iGPU and light. Full spec here:

Yes, it's from a review of the W350ST.
Sorry, thought I had put the link on the post.
It's just to give us a picture of how the new 120W adapter for the W230ST gonna look like as well. -
That looks quite good, they are paying a lot of attention to portability which is exactly many of us need.
Although I find 120 watts to be somewhat low.. is it gonna be enough if you're overclocking with 4900MQ or higher? -
How heavy will this thing be and what will the price be?
it's either this one or the Razer Blade 14" for me. -
Yeah what I meant is it does't come with OS. That's pretty light but what concerns me is will 120W be sufficient ?
-
Yup, it concern me as well on the 120W adapter.
In fact, the W350ST have CPU throttling issue during full load stress test as per what notebookcheck reviewed.
Whereas it didn't happened on a P150SM using the 180W adapter. -
First, I wouldn't consider anything higher than an i7-4800MQ in this laptop, it's a small laptop and you can only do so much with power and cooling. Not to mention the 4900MQ is only a very slightly marginal improvement in performance (100MHz only). Second, you can artificially push the limits of most any laptop beyond anything that is practical that your PSU can provide. In the notebookcheck review they even note:
" Although the Core i7 4700MQ and GeForce GTX 765M settled to just over 70°C during full load, the CPU's moderate temperature is made possible by throttling to 800 MHz (2.7 GHz without Furmark). However, seeing that our stress test is an unrealistic scenario, there is no need for concern in practical use. The benchmarks did not indicate throttling." -
One more presentation of CLEVO W230ST from Computex 2013:
CLEVO W230ST Computex -
But since the upgrade path does mention i7-4900MQ as one of the option(From bluemobility), it is not too much if someone asked.
Agree with you though.
I myself would only consider the i7-4702MQ if I were to get one.
I wan't to reduce as much power as possible required but still have the performance of a quad core.
It's a small machine after all.
I have missed out the "The benchmarks did not indicate throttling" part.
Guess, there's nothing to be worry about then.
Was wondering, what is the most stressful game out there that can put the test to the limit? -
Finally, a video with someone lifting up the laptop!
-
i actually got happy then i realsied i already read this review. there was somethings i was not impressed with about the machine so im hoping the 230st is better.
-
i really hope w230st will be very good in terms of everything
-
I've watched it, that guy was told by Clevo to get out of there because he was a bit violent with the babies ( Laptop )
-
Wow that's pretty poor of Clevo. He was only showing the products off.
Yeah so he didn't replace some power cords and put them back straight. It's an exhibition, what do they expect!
Not cool of Clevo at all IMO. -
Haha he was pissed at the end of the video. BTW does anyone know how's the heat dissipation in this machine? I only saw one vent at the left side of the laptop. Is it enough consider that this machine will pack with serious hardware.
-
The guy was being a jerk with the products. I see no problem with them asking him to leave.
-
Being a jerk with the products? Hardly.
It was good to see someone actually pick them up and treat them as any normal user would. -
If this thing is like 1200$ or below I'll buy it in a heartbeat. Hopefully they'll keep price points around the same as they were for last gen's w110er. 4700mq, 765m, up to 16gb ram, a 2.5 inch drive bay and a m.2 ssd port all in a pretty nice looking 13.3 inch notebook with tons of I/O and a matte 1080p screen (guessing its matte based on the videos I've seen of it thus far) all for around $1200 would literally be a dream come true.

Knowing Clevo's pricing history, I expect this laptop to start at $999.00 CAD/USD for the base Intel CPU, Hard Drive, 8Gb's of RAM and 900p. Anything higher would be too expensive, and have me looking for alternatives.
-
Well then you better start looking. Any other 14" (good luck finding any 13") with similar config are coming out at minimum $1200 with 900p, even with 760m not 765m. Good luck finding any alternative with the performance, options, expansion, and 1080p option for less than $1200. My expectation is $1200 but with i7-4700MQ, 1080p, 16GB, and HDD.
It's basically a mini version of the W350ST which starts at $999 and doesn't have a backlit keyboard. -
Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
I think its going to be 1200 to 1400, with min specs of 4700mq, 900p, 8gb and hdd -
1400 with 900p is a bit uhh.. overpriced
-
Looks like scan in the uk are going for somewhere in the middle of their 600 pounds and 850 pounds laptops. Thats between $900 and $1350 so $1200 wouldn't be too unreasonable as its close to half way
I quite like the Galago UltraPro (System76), I know it doesn't have the latest and greatest GPU but the intel iris 5200 in the laptop looks pretty good. Still waiting on reviews and price for the W230ST first before I make any decision. -
Hey guys, lookie here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/sol...sung-mass-producing-pcie-ssd-ultra-thins.html
Looks like there may be another option for SSD upgrade in the W230ST in one of the mini PCIe slots. -
Source on that? I'm in the UK and might well buy from them
-
My guess it will be around $1099 for the basic config without OS.

Lets make a sig bet, the right "Clevo price" for this laptop base config is starting at $999.00 USD. I will bet you that at least in the U.S. this laptop will start at $999.00 for a pure base config (no OS, lowest end Intel CPU, lowest RAM config, cheapest HDD option, cheapest WiFi card option, and only 900p screen). Also willing to bet that the upgrade to 1080p will cost $150.00 USD. Of course it's speculation, but I have a hunch these will be the exact prices. I hope Clevo doesn't get too greedy though, keeping themselves priced well below the competition will only increase their sales and profits. -
The "lowest" CPU at the moment is the i7-4700MQ, no dual cores that I am aware of being available for a little while. The 15" versions with similar specs (and no keybaord backlight, mind you) cost about $1000.

Indeed, hopefully we'll be able to under-volt the base CPU to 4702MQ spec. -
Just ordered mine guys!
1 080 € delivered to my door (hopefully around the 15th of July)! Here are the details : ImageShack® - Online Photo and Video Hosting
Already have a 256Go SSD and 8Go of ram so didn't take any. Didn't take any OS either (took 2 years of warranty though).
Here's the link to the website where I ordered from (FR) : Clevo Clevo W230ST - 11 Ã 14' CLEVO - distributeur Clevo officiel, CLEVO P270WM, CLEVO P150EM, CLEVO P170EM, CLEVO P150HM, CLEVO P180HM, CLEVO P170HM...
I just discovered the W230ST has 2 mSATA slots and 1 normal hdd bay which is pretty nice for future upgrades! [EDIT : I think it's 2 mini PCIe slots instead]
I was torn between the Alienware 14, the blade and this one but the price of the Clevo just convinced me!
Now I just have to wait
W230ST - The 13" We've been waiting for!?
