Félicitations Monsieur! Do post some pics and maybe an un-boxing video if it's not too much trouble, when you get it. :D

    Thanks! Will do! :)

Btw does anybody know if the screen is IPS? It's written "13.3 Full-HD 1920x1080 LED-MAT" on the specs but nothing more...

from the specs alone I think the dual cores would have launched by the shipping dates, 649 euro gives hope for the 1k price in the US

totally unrelated but I just saw the dassault systemes recreation of paris, interesting... or not, bad graphics ;)

Dont be daft. the price would never be that low. i think barebones would be a prob 699 euros. no the price will be around £749 sterling and thats probably with 900p but i cant be sure how they will start of f like if both screen options will be available from the start. if it just a 1080p i think £799. that figure is based on my trend. actualy that doesnt seem all that bad. on paper. but lol £100 more than id want to spend. us wont get an exact conversion price. theres will work out cheaper....they always do. and £100 off £799 actually converts to $1099 which is a fair price to me.

oh fair, and being in the middle between £600 and £850 isn't all that bad considering what Scan baselines are (mid range dual core if available, low end quad if not, 500GB HDD, 8GB of RAM). I'll still wait and see but I'm feeling more and more like I'll end up buying from Scan, they've just gotta not mess it up on the storage front, last time I only went with their competition as I couldn't get an Intel 335 SSD fitted, they only offered a kingston which I didn't know the reliability of.

They also didn't have the option of shipping with no drive and at the time that particular ssd was very expensive, so £50 of wasted hdd and £40 extra to buy it standalone. When the competition would just give me the drive I wanted and end up £40 cheaper it was a no brainer.

If Scan is a Clevo builder or Sager reseller, at least here in the US you can ask for a build without hard drive/SSD and it may take a little longer but they will provide you with a special build configuration.

I wonder if pwnpcs will carry this in uk? I was able to buy my p150em from them completely stripped down, which helps when you already have your own CPU / RAM /SSD.

sorry if i appeared rude. it was meant in a too good to be true reply. you do know that 649 euros is around 550 pounds. besides all other configured spec laptops in the 15" range are about 799 pounds also. last year i nearly bought the w110er from scan or pcspealist. i ended up choosing pcspecialist. i was going to buy it on finance but there process was alot longer than i thought so never bothered as i didnt want to pay upfront.
pcspecialist has more upgrade options than scan. i do fnd that scans upgrade prices way more inflated.
if i spec both exactly the same. pcspecialist cost £506 and scans cost £530. this is with i3 cores in both same ram exact hard drive no os etc. when i put an i7 3632qm in both. pc specialist cost £647, a £141 upgrade cost and scans cost £738 for the same upgrade cost £208 which is a 48% increase for the same part. somethings may cost more or less on each site but overall pcspecialist is better imo and has way more option choices. so when the dual core haswell chips are available. you can price it down cheaper better for those that want to upgrade it themselves.

but if you could buy one from that french outlet if they think it will cost that....jump all over it and tell us where to get it from so we can all do it

Woah, aye Scan seem to have updated their prices, used to be they'd sell 16GB of RAM for £70 with a system whereas the stand alone price was £100, things like that. Anyway, still hoping for absolutely fabulous prices on this laptop :D

Well I abandoned ship when I saw the bluemobility prices, and bought a Y410p. That was a mistake, returned my Y410p because of the glossy screen and M.2 42mm NGFF SSD slot. I am back and waiting for this again. I hope to god the US pricing is reasonable.

Anyone know the weight and thickness on this thing?

Currently stuck between this and the Razer Blade 14". I will probably get more performance for the buck on this one, but I absolutely adore the design and build quality on the Razer.

How is build quality on Clevo? Do they feel solid and compact?

Btw, why won't my avatar and signature show up?

    1.25" thick and 4.4lbs

I would be all over this if it was thinner/lighter. Kind of disappointing.

Build quality for Clevo is great imo

Oh, man. I don't see the point in buying a small gaming laptop if its that thick. Thats really disappointing...

Thanks for the answer. I guess I'll be looking for more options other than the Razer Blade 14" cause that is a really expensive laptop.

The problem is that those two laptops are king of this size unless you want to count the m14x in there as well. Anything other than these three is either bigger or weaker

LOOOOL! What? 1.25" thick? 4.4lbs is too big/heavy? This ain't an underpowered Macbook. Go buy the Razer Blade if you want thin (0.7"), and lighter (4.1lbs). But also likely cost you $500-800 more, and lose any expansion options, get a mediocre 1600x900 screen, limited to i7-4702 37W CPU, and lacking many ports. All of the competition is thicker and heavier than the W230ST (MSI, Asus, Alienware). And as jaybee83 points out, that mass is required to keep it running cool. It's going to support the 47W Haswell quad core CPU's, so it needs some beef to it.

Or he could just go for the slightly larger P34G which has almost the same specs at 0.84"
We haven't seen any benchmarks or temperature reports of this model so far, however the first blade reviews report that it doesn't get too heated up so it might simply be a wasteful and unnecessarily heavy design by clevo.

I'm not so sure that's a good option either, a 47Wh battery for instance vs 60 in the W230ST, 70 in the blade. Weaker expansion options due to having fewer mini pcie ports, a weaker GPU, and possibly weaker cooling due to the size.

Gonna be really interesting to see reviews of all these systems, but thickness is of no real concern to me so I'd rather get a good display (bye bye blade) and good battery life (bye bye gigabyte) along with beefy cooling so I can overclock a bit, hope Prema's watching these machines closely :p

    Add the Lenovo y410p.
It got slimmer (0.6" - 15.3mm) however it might just be it's thinnest point which should translate to 20-30mm in the thickest point.
I guess the dual gpu is not a very favorable build but it's viable and it's probably the best bang for the buck.
    Shame it's pretty hefty at 2.4kg. :(

Ok, so I lied about sizes, but really the only competitor is the Blade with similar specs. The MSI and Gigabyte have 760m, Lenovo has 750m, and M14x is really not a true contender if you want small and portable. +/- 0.3lbs is trivial, +2lbs is significant. :p

I'd like to add battery capacity to that table since it's a pretty important factor, because the easiest way to get a light laptop is to leave out the battery :p

Can anyone confirm battery sizes for MSI GE40? I linked the value to an article I found but can't find it in official MSI specs anywhere. Also Lenovo only lists a 6-cell, I just guessed 48 since that's what the Y400 uses.
