@Isaac1980 so where did you buy your Metabox/Clevo mate? All I could find was Metabox itself, Affordable Laptops, P4Laptops and eBay (duh!). Metabox has a monopoly over Clevo machines, all the rest are just second tier (reselling from a reseller), not like what they have in the US with Sager, XoticPC, LPC or HID where they customise their own machines and sell independently.

Kong were really helpful with my purchase and had a bit of wriggle room with budget and upgrades

Thanks. BTW price cut across all resellers now. Imminent release of Pascal-powered systems
-
No price cut for Aftershock's systems (yet?)

Ive seen cuts from MSI, Asus, Acer, Clevo, Dell, and Lenovo across all the 9 series platforms. Earnings reports usually happen on a thursday for friday stock fluctuations and futures options trading over the weekends. Given that MSI has offered a cut for the last 2 weeks then added an additional $300-500 off over this last weekend of july ending on the 31st i would hazard a guess that theres 60-65% chance we get release dates this thursday if not an actual machine launch. Im remaining hopeful we hear something today but from what many companies with stock options do in order to bolster their value is to dump old stock for black gains then drop a bomb when there is only 24 hours of trading available and they will make a killing in options trading while people preorder the hell out of their newest iteration of their medium or from actual sales during a launch.
Fingers crossed. XXGMLP likes this. -

That's assuming they have a say in when things can be said.

Summer is always a quiet time which means everyone's sales are slower in this sector. The same thing happens with pricing before every launch, you often see it before March is Intel has something new then as well as before now. On top of this different companies start their back to school promotions earlier than others. There's a combination of factors which are affecting pricing at the moment, ultimately everyone knows that there's a new product launch comming in the not too distant future and big price dumps from manufacturers are usually to help resellers get rid of stock that isn't selling. The NDA is controlled by the component manufacturer, so whilst the stock argument may hold some water there are also simpler reasons for current price trends.
-
Will you be present @ Gamescom this year XMG ?
-
We will be there, but won't have our own actual stand - it's become very expensive to exhibit there. We used to have very big stands with their own stages, but instead we now tend to have our products supporting other partners - for example we had our own XMG Zone and then 150 XMG Prime PCs running lots of areas like Intel, Nvidia, Square Enix, 2K Games - same with the laptops.
If you need to find us there are ways of doing so, I'll be there for example ;-)jaybee83 likes this. -
Cool thanks for the heads up
. I suppose Nvidia will reveal pascal laptops (or lift the NDA) during this event that's why I'm asking ^^. I did read about Gamescom Cologne increasing their price, no wonder the playstation conference moved to Paris Games week...
-
Well I guess I'll try to shoot him a PM and see what he says, thanks anyhow
-
Well I can't comment on NDA dates of course, but there's been lots of leaks and lots of missinformation thrown around already!!!
We saw the same thing happen with events in the UK like Gadget Show Live - everyone is putting their prices up throughout Europe and it's simply pushing companies away from exhibiting. It really is absurdly expensive these days, not helped in Germany because CeBit is now 100% B2B whereas before with the Intel Extreme Masters Hall it attracted a much wider audience. Problem is that Cologne Messe is almost too small for Gamescom now. -
To all reps: you guys should seriously expand into Australia lol. I mean physical presence, not 'shipping from US' presence

NDA embargo. And its purely based on my magical powers of deductions from posts here on NBR and "merciful gods of internet".

Yeah, but what have you deduced will happen on August 19th of interest to this thread??steberg likes this.

Definitely, especially those who would go and buy something that hasn't even been launched officially.
Now about the 19th of august "embargo" thing, would they just throw a random date there?

Dude
"While this might seem like something everyone in California says, you’re far more likely to hear it as a term of endearment down South. Up North, I found that people would say “man” instead. Note that this phrase is unisex, meaning you don’t have to call a girl a “dudette,” whatever that is. They can be dudes, too! You can safely say “dude” in NorCal without attracting anyone’s fury, just don’t expect it to be said back to you."

Yes, the "confirmed" specs have changed so much in the rumor mill.hmscott likes this. -

It's obvious (at least for me) that nvidia will lift the NDA during Gamescom
so stop bothering sales rep germans are usually dead serious when it comes to agreements ^^ ! Now I hope to see 15"+1080 laptops! I want a mobile 1080 or at least a 1070 in a 15" chassis,.. seriously, if only a vapor-cooled Asus laptop can handle high-end nvidia pascal cards that would suck....
-
1080 in 15" , thats a dream

Well a 1070 120ish watts can easily enter a gaming 15" at least
. with special TDP management a 1080 can enter IMO (extra fan, etc.)

All I care about is whether I can play Fallout 4 on 4k at 120Hz 60FPS maxed out. Too much to ask?

well if the P870 pascal can take two 1080 why a 15" wouldn't be able to take one ^^ ?

I would like a 18.4" IPS panels with these bad boys, portability is just another word for compromise and if you're willing to carry 2 bricks in your bag pack, how much weight will another inch on the screen add? Can't wait for the release!

There wasn't a 15 inch model with a 980 in it (just 980m). A higher power graphics card is going to require better cooling to keep it from baking itself, so you need larger heatsinks, better airflow, etc... Maybe nobody wanted to redesign a 15 inch to work with the 980, as it launched after the mobile cards did. But nothing has been released about upcoming models, so I would still not worry about rumors on what will or won't be coming, they can always be wrong.hmscott, electrosoft and Papusan like this. -
For me a "bulk-ish" 15" model can support the 1080, I mean the 980M was easily supported by slim gaming laptops, wait&see as always
.

I think everyone's point is that the 1080 = 980 desktop mobile TDP, not 980m. And, I don't think there was a 15" 980 desktop mobile laptop released.
That doesn't mean someone won't release a 1080 15", it's just gonna be a challenge to fit that much cooling in a 15" frame. -
Support.1@XOTIC PC Company Representative
I'd agree completely. If someone does it, it would need to be a somewhat bulky case at that point. With the trend of going slimmer and lighter on 15 inch models lately, and most manufacturer's keeping away from larger 15 inch models, it could be a rarity if done at all. -
I know all I'm saying is that the 980M was easily supported in 15" notebooks with some arrangements a card with a TDP like the 980/1080 mobile could be supported imo. I'm planing on getting a 1070 15" and I think it should be possible. I will not get a 1060 however if that's only what they will offer for 15" customers...hmscott likes this.
-
Don't forget that the GTX 980 is physically bigger than the GTX 980M and requires an additional power connector, it's not just the TDP/temperatures/cooling/power consumption.
hmscott likes this. -
Well they did revamp 17" notebooks to incorporate those changes
. But again a 1070 is more than enough for me if that's the max a 15" can get than it's more than fine for me.
hmscott likes this. -
I think you are still missing the subtle distinction between the TDP of the 980m and the 980 desktop mobile GPU.
The 980m was 100w-120w and the 980 desktop mobile was 165w-200w, depending on the make / model.
The 980m matches TDP with the 1070.
The 980 desktop mobile matches TDP with the 1080.
Since there was never a 15" laptop built with cooling for the 980 desktop mobile 165w-200w, there is no upgrade path for existing 15" to the 1080.
There would need to be a newly developed 15" that could handle 50% more cooling and power delivery.
That's why I said it would take some real effort to support a 15" 1080, it's not a slam dunk
-
That's correct, but what Clevo did was to add two new chassis to the 17" line up with specific native support for the GTX 980 (well the two versions of this GPU). Hypothetically if Clevo created a 15" chassis that supported the GTX 980 then due to the orientation and larger size of the GPU, a whole new chassis would be required.
I'm being very careful in the way that I word these comments because I do know everything that's coming but I don't want to inadvertently hint at this - so just take the comments as logical arguments ;-) -

Reading the manual is super important
-
Yep, I don't expect a P505 1080 edition anytime soon, the barebone cannot handle it ^^.
~ Two weeks I think and we'll be fixed. Do you have warranties for pick&up and return to France (mysn.de) ?
I hate NDAs
Don't worry Clevo is known for two things :
Crappy FTP download driver page
Manuals that are released in the wild well before NDA expiry date
Will Clevo be releasing a GTX 1080 Desktop edition laptop?
