Any word on the 1060 or 1070"m"?
-
Yes... We know they are weaker, slower and cheaper than 1080.Last edited: Aug 10, 2016Chronokiller, Isaac1980, temp00876 and 3 others like this.

1080 - 2560 cores, 8GB GDDR5X @ 10Ghz, 150W+ TDPs non-standard mxm designs , 8-pin power connector
1070 - 2048 cores, 8GB GDDR5 @ 8Ghz, 100-130W TDPs, non-standard ish mxm designs but most likely to fit MXM 3.0b spec, 8-pin power connecotr (MSI version might not have power connector)
1060 - 1280 cores, 8GB GDDR5 @ 8Ghz, 75-100W TDP?, non-standard or standard mxm 3.0b (not sure yet) , Clevo model has 8-pin power, MSI version most likely will not.

Will some version of the 1070 or 1080 "m" or not fit in my NP9377SM-a/P377sm-a?
well that sucks I was hoping far in the future to be able to upgrade from the 980m.....so you are sure that no newer than 980m gpu's will fit? that suxLast edited: Aug 11, 2016 -
About 100% sure if not Clevo will release a low power 1070 mobile card
I domt know about 1060 will fit. Time will tell. This graphics will be a good upgrade for you if...

huh?

Looks like AVA Direct jumped the gun and posted the new P650 refresh early... kinda disappointed not to see the gtx 1080 on this one -

It doesn't surprise me given the speculation that the 1080 will be the same nonstandard form factor the 980 DT was, I don't think that would fit. -
Yes, they have a slim chance, to fit in a regular 3.0b standard machine, Also the power connectors on all Clevo MXM cards are standardized it seems, even the 970M successor Clevo 1060 comes with one but technically It's GP106 which is a downgrade vs the 970M - GM204. Maybe MSI 1070 is not that deviated then "we might" have a chance else SOL & forced to upgrade if you want Pascal...
-
Well, you can join the rest of us in the " very disappointed club" LOL. And yes, it does suck.
My beast is less than 3 months old and doesn't support 1080 SLI because they chose to use the 200W 980 PCB size instead of the upgrade-friendly 180W 980 PCB size. You can only use one 1080, so it's effectively perma-gimped. This machine has everything it needs to rock 1080 SLI except for Clevo's choice in the PCB size. The Pascal GPUs that might work in SLI are the wimpy gimpy sissy-boy GPUs that no enthusiast would be interested in wasting their money on. -

We will have to see what the best options are regarding such options after launch.

Yeah. Finally is the trend with thinner and thinner laptops reversed if they shall contain the best from Nvidia

The post above mine, Mr. Fox. -
Thanks, wasn't sure.
Well from your post to him then you are hinting at two options:
1) There is an option to upgrade to what you want.
or
2) There is a possibility to trade in your laptop for the one you want.
NDA and all that

It means there is not enough information to be sure of anything right now.
-

While I also disagree with that direction, I suspect manufacturers may be throwing a bone to holdout enthusiasts rather than reversing a trend. Thin and light is here to stay, like it or not, and I imagine this is just to make people like me stop complaining about it. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
I think there is a place for all types depending on the balance you want to strike.

Yeah, Thin and light is here to stay, but they will struggle to use the best from Nvidia. Either with lower TDP card or heat issues. You can't put the best graphis in the thinnest models like before. +Rep to Nvidia

the link not working... they took it down?
since you already look at it, what is the spec? 1070 GPU only?hmscott likes this. -
Yes only the 1070

Do you remember anything on pricing?

See here:

Prices there were with default "starting at" configs, pretty much bare-bones, but functional. It was maybe +$200-ish to get to usual config (better CPU, more RAM, SSD, OS).anassa likes this. -

Other posters have been saying that the 1080 will be the same size as the 980DT, which would likely not fit in this model. -
Maybe I can get an answer from you, I have the GT72S which can house the 980 DT, now along with MSI promise, will I be able to upgrade to the 1080 and not just the 1070?hmscott likes this.
-
Good answer, you just broke the NDA without actually breaking the NDA.
Since GTX 1070 basically a 980M, that means Clevo P650RS-G will have the same performance as Clevo P650RG-G. might as well buying the older model since older model comes with discounted price when newer model comes out.TomJGX likes this. -

I haven't seen any images of the new cards or actual numbers, just going by what's shown up in other threads. (Nobody will tell me anything yet). It makes sense though, they wouldn't have to change form factors much if they did that.Prema likes this. -
huh? 1070 being the 980M successor in terms of TDP class doesnt mean it has the same performance as the 980M...even the 1060 will beat the 980M! id say the 1050 Ti / 1050 will be on the same performance level as the 980M

GTX 1070 is expected to be much faster than GTX 980M - leaked 3dmark firestrike scores indicate it's ~1.7x faster.
Even just GTX 1060 should be ~1.2x faster than GTX 980M.
This is a message for people who plan to buy older models from somebody who had in his hands Pascal notebook

I see, thanks for the info, i seem to missed a lot. I thought nvidia still doing the "old way" of rebranding the previous top tier to mid tier, etc.
Good news then, looking forward for P650RS-G with GTX 1070. -
Maybe wait for release day, and then open a ticket with MSI requesting upgrade info for your GT72S 980 to 1080 ?
This is a Clevo group
-
Strictly it is but let's be real they were talking about cars on other threads
Won't be just a Clevo group when people start popping them MSI cards in clevo's right?
Maybe some others will benefit too

It wasn't a comment about off topic posting.
MSI are the only ones that can tell you with certainty what upgrade will be made available to you for your laptop. That information won't be available until the NDA on the Pascal GPU's is over, and maybe for a good while afterwards MSI support people won't have all the info you need, be patient.
All you are going to get now are educated guesses.
In MSI threads for MSI questions, the answers can help other MSI laptop owners.Last edited: Aug 13, 2016 -
BGA bashing is a different story, although to be fair it would be a bit off to BGA bash a company that makes the MXM cards you put into your "BGA free" laptop just because your own manufacturer ****ed you over
(This isn't directed to you btw so nothing personal
)
Anyhow I guess its just the impatience thats gotten into everyone, no hard feelings.
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalkhmscott likes this. -
Yeah, I think of that when talk of poaching MSI MXM's, yet still drop the BGA hammer in the same posts
I was only trying to help you get a better answer, and I do the same thing - a thought thread ends up coming out at the wrong time and place
And, Clevo likely will come through with an upgrade solution for recent Clevo laptops, maybe not on par with the new models, but a similar to form upgrade - single GPU 1080, 1070 SLI - matching the original levels of GPU support.
If not, there's always "upgrades" to MSI GT83/GT73's and Asus GXn00's available!

Interesting, I hope it's true

Funny how they now headline with "First Notebook Chip With GDDR5X Memory" when a few weeks ago they said that there would be no GDDR5X in the new GPUs. The respectable press will always know exactly what is happening well before the "leaking press" circulate rumours......
-
I'm not usually involved in these types of sideshows, but I'm waiting on a laptop order. You're right though, there have been so many conflicting reports lol
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Well if you post all possible combinations later you can claim you were right all along.
-
Hehe yeah, you can be a real "guru"...
-
Anyone who has common sense could see from the reports that the 1080 would be the only card with GDDR5X....Even resellers were leaking that model with that specific kind of memory.
-
Unless it wasn't gddr5x, in which case people would likely be saying "anyone who has any common sense would know that the notebook gtx 1080 wouldn't have gddr5x because they would have to build custom boards" or some such rationale hehe...
Last edited: Aug 13, 2016 -
You can tell by looking at the memory chips on the PCB that they are GDDR5X chips.

Will Clevo be releasing a GTX 1080 Desktop edition laptop?
