Yep that is a pretty nice load on your machine but that 480m is much thirstier for power ....
Honestly though i am only going by what i have read and what others have commented on so until some hooks the machine up to a KillOWatt and takes some readings its all more speculation...
Your stock PSU might be more then enough but honestly the PSU is either underrated by a decent margin which most are but not all of them or that 220wPSU coupled with the 480m will be on the verge of destruction under serious load![]()
I am just having fun with all the speculation flying around while others here take this all far more seriously and personally...

In the end though, I'll probably be finding some way to get a 480m for myself... at that time, I'm sure I'll be sure to post here about it. So fear not friends! XD

If had your machine it would be a tough call but in the end the 480m sounds alot easier to get working then the 5870 in there so i would probably jump on the former..
But i would certainly wait awhile till prices fall to a reasonable amount unless you have a $1000.00 just burning a hole in your pocket for that upgrade kit there selling in which case i probably would have already pre ordered it lol...
I think $500ish give or take would be in the acceptable range.. Might never make it that low but ya never know... -
Haha yeah man, but I don't plan to pay so much for it; I know there are places I can get it cheaper. Even eurocom, those overpriced *bleep* still charge ~500 USD to go from single 480m to SLI 480m... I'll probably buy one from Xotic myself; hopefully they'll sell me one. But at the end of the day, if I do buy myself a 480m I'll be selling my old 280m here on this forum to see if i could make back some of the cash. It's in fine working condition right now, and doesn't feel like it's going to give up anytime soon ^^
That way I could probably save myself some. I was originally planning to find myself ~2000 USD or so and then try to sell my current machine for 2.4 or thereabouts so I could get an X7200, but until I see Xotic find themselves one of those, that plan is out of the window. -
Rjtech is generally the cheapest place to get spare parts and thats the price i was quoting ... $940.00 US ...
Scary stuff lol... Guess you could always sell a kidney since you have 2 of them

Scary indeed! That's why I'm not selling them. Very, very, few members on the forum would pay $900 for this card. Maybe no one...

They are a bit too expensive actually. Sager offers the following upgrade package:
Upgrade kit to NV GF GTX 480M for NP9280, 9285.
User Price: $895
Kit includes 480M VGA Card, CPU heat-sink, GPU Heat-Stink (Standard Thermal Paste)
Optional IC Diamond thermal Paste:
User Price: $20.00 -
well if this card outperforms 5870 cfx real good ill buy 480m sli when the x7200 comes out. just hope that x7200 will come out with 5870 cfx option. the funny thing is.. i don't even play graphic intensive games that much, only sf4 and need for speed undercover. LOL
i just wanna bench! ( trying )
-
Hmm, check this out: "After all, the D900F is pretty much a full-fledged desktop PC stuff into a notebook form factor. We measured the machine's power brick drawing 135 Watts at idle on the desktop and a little over 200 Watts under full gaming load.

"
200W with the 480M means that yes, the x7200 will be able to use a SLI 480M with a 300W power brick. It's all good. -
Damn thread went on explosion mode, when are the 6870's coming out? Isn't it a bit too early for that? The 5870's do hold on their own. Now time to read tomorrow the thread and the entire new posts! Yeah i love benching getting the hang of it but again seems like Vantage wants to be a pain in the and start with the oh does not support the 1280x1024 res and blah blah any help or ideas on that? Yeah looks like i am going to be mini rich here and been looking for a machine to replace my Precision m6400 so looks like I seriously will buy this with a rgbled screen.
-
any idea when this beauty going to be available for sale?? i still cant see it in the sager web, instead the 9280 get a refresh.
-
do we have any confirmed buyers of this beast yet? i can wait for hands-on reviews.
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
You probably won't see it until August.
-
From Notebookcheck:
That's with a non-extreme CPU. What will happen with a 990X?
So for now, forget about benching and OC'ing.
Even without stressing the CPU, gaming is ~200W. -
I definitely won´t mind a 400W PSU
-
looking at my AW 240W PSU... It could be twice as thick and still fit my Orion backpack, so - yes
-
I understand, well we will have to wait and see then.
-
you could mod a Desktop psu to power this sucker at home if you plan on pushing it for benchmarks and OC
-
$6000? You don't want the 24GB RAM? It'll only be $3000 extra. Still below 10grand.
-
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
Not too bad...what about the 2nd and 3rd hard drive bays...a couple more SSD's in there would be good. All for under 11K...
-
11k To let you stay on top for 6 moths
-
Imagine if something didn't work quite right at that price.
-
Lol, true. Actually, I can't imagine that everything will be fine with that system.
Already I hear the voices... " For the money I paid this system should be flawless! I'm returning it for a refund and will buy a netbook instead!"
-
For that price, it should really come with some really good keyboard (like the ones of the older ThinkPads) and an IPS screen to start with...
And while I am talking about screens, is there any chance for this laptop to get a matte screen option? -
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
It seems that Clevo is steering away from putting matte screens in these high end systems...of course we should know more in about a month. -
I understand that matte screens don't look as gorgeous as the glossy ones when gaming in a dark room, but it's virtually impossible to use the glare type LCD's for work in brightly lit offices.
For people like me the absence of the matte option is a deal breaker, regardless of how powerful the system is
-
Me too. That is why I am speculating on the possibilities to replace the screen with a matte one. In fact, LG is starting producing IPS screens for the laptop industry (again), like the one that is coming to your signature
, so a 16:9 17'' IPS screen should start being available at some time. However, in such case I would go for a barebone system as I wouldn´t like to void the warranty of a 3k system... (besides, a barebone system seems to be the cheaper option).
BTW, is there a chance to see a system similar to X7200, though with a 16:10 17'' screen? -
Until now our cries for 16:10 screens on high-end systems have fallen upon deaf ears.
-
i thought that 16:10 is a 1920x1200 resolution...and that´s a standard for most clevo gaming models...
-
It used to be... back in the good ol' days. Now it's only 16:9 -> 1920x1080.
-
That´s true. my d900f supports the 1920x1200, but there´s a little difference when comparing with 16:9 screen res. 16:10 is perfect when i watch a bluray and it can perfectly fit the screen or some game when maxed out in that resolution is a beatiful experience(I´m playing wings of prey at the moment at 1920x1200 maxed out, something beatiful, or avatar bluray with videobitrate something about 39 i think... there´s no better movie experience). but after all i won´t mind if i´ll have 1080p res. it´s not the highest priority option for my d900f now...
-
I'm not too optimistic about the ease of replacing the screen. Not every panel will be supported (from connectors to power related issues) I know for a fact that someone (Witcher) tried replacing the screen in his M17X (with a simple TN panel) and even that didn't work.
But if someone manages to do it in x7200 - I'm game!
-
Some more pics of the x7200. The article I got these from says the units displayed are beta units.
-
one word, sexyy~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ (in high pitch sound )
-
Looks great. I like the Dell-like styling on the lid.
-
See Clevo again deceives us with how thick this notebook is, i would love the see the internals of this beast but that's not going to happen anytime soon. It would be awesome to have a matte screen ips 16 bit LG screen, awesome!! But yes Kensai not every screen is going work with the connectors. But i am very interested to see the screen brightness etc.. And also truly if they really have a RGBLED one.
-
Haha, the 'START' button is pretty classy. I like that a lot.
-
If I was a retailer would call this system the "Bulldozer"
-
An Intel powered Bulldozer machine....
-
Yeah the start button had me on the floor! Its a classic no doubt, thats what i like about clevo notebooks the most, boy what a throwback.
-
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
-
Yes, definitely the best!
-
Looks like it has a fingerprint reader. I'd like to see the placement of the ports on this chasis.
Ppl complain about it not being 1200p, but one of the reasons it's 1080p is the hdmi in.
Being and 1080p screen, one could use it to play console games (xbox, ps3) via the hdmi in.
This is an awsome option.
Compared to d900f, the improvements i see are
1)Usb 3.0
2)Fingerprint reader
3)Hdmi in with 1080p
4)I heard better scren quality rgb led or something
5)Support for dual gpu
6)Possibly better cooling
7)All hdd slots are 12.5mm, to bad there are no 2.5" 12.5mm ssd to take advantage of the bigger form factor. Still, one could make a raid of 2 ssd, and use a 1TB hdd for storage, togther with and ODD (optical disk drive)
I like the x7200! -
-
Why can't you have HDMI in with a 1200p screen? Sure, you'd have black bars on the top and bottom, but the extra pixels are worth it.
-
If you had black bars on top and bottom, that would be ok, but i think hdmi in on a 1200p screen would scale 1080p to 1200p and there would be distorted image.
That's why hdmi in goes hand in hand with 1080p screen. -
There is simply no reason that has to be the case. Here's evidence to the contrary: Dell U2410 reviews. It's a 24" 1920x1200 monitor with an HDMI input, and one review stated that it letterboxes the output from a PS3 correctly.
-
with horizontal black bars ?
-
Look up the definition of "letterboxing".
