I know why I bought what I have now. It was the only way I could get this kind of power without all the other weight.

Exactly!! Four times the power, eight times less the weight :)

Even though there is no Sager with a 15` screen that sports the 8800M GTX for now, the 5792 is far better in all terms. It has a beautiful 17 inch screen(I know, I have one :D) ,fast CPUs and probably better ones next year, spors 3 distinct GPUs,might be 4( 8700GT, 7950GTX, 8800M GTX, 8800M GTS) ,it is not very heavy, about 8.5 pounds is my estimate , and has a better price than the alienware m15x .
Now,imagine that we are talking about high performance systems. There is no thin laptop that can house eaw power yet, so the 15x , from pictures taken at the unveiling of alienware`s new systems appears to be just as thick,if not thicker in some places than the sager 5792.
I am not claiming that the Mr70RU ( or sager 579x ) is better because I own one, it is simply the fact , Sager builds hi-tech systems at far more accessible prices than Alienware.

I completely agree with you that Sager's systems give much more bang for the buck than Alienware's, however, the 15 inch really caught my attention. I'll make my decision when I get the $$$, which will be a little while after these new systems come out. So I have a while to decide what I get.

    Thanks for the help guys

Just curious, has anyone had an update on the SLI 8800m GTX? I am being told by my reseller to expect the 1st week of Jan for delivery. Anyone else heard similar from their resellers? Without posting detials of the email, they inadvertently sugested it was due to the SLI flex cable...

It is highly unlikely that anyone will be shipping the D901C with Dual 8800M GTX in Sli until mid or more likely late January.

Sager will be the first to ship them with other private labelers shipping a few days later.

I am sorry if this is bad news for you, but it is the truth and you should make your plans according to that schedule so as to not be disappointed.

Coors, if they are sending anything out the 1st week of Januarry, I assume it will only have one card in it, and that they will send the 2nd card, and flex cable, when ready. This would save me about $600 if they did that, as I would have the parts sent to me in mexico. But If I don't receive the machine itself by the night of the 6th, then I will have to buy another round trip from mexico, about $600+ at that point. Peek season is coming in a couple weeks.

So I really hope they send me the machine, even with no cards, HAH. At least I would be much less worried about sending a couple small items that don't look expensive through mexco, than a $4,000 laptop.

Sigh...I was hoping that one day I would be able to swap in the 8800s, but it looks like my 7950s are here to stay. Just way too expensive and too much hassle to deal with mobo+gpu+price+shipping+warranty. Not too happy about it, as I don't consider having to spend a ridiculous amount of money to upgrade everything to upgrade something that i want to upgrade, an upgrade at all.

Yeah I had a funny feeling that would be the case.

    Thanks paladin44 and Bmonk.

Bmonk - I think they might actually do the one card thing, but PCMW support were adamant that it was going to be the 1st week, but I think we really know what to expect, as it's becoming clearly obvious. I hope it is worth the wait in the long run.

How hard would the user self-installation of the 8800M GTX into the NP5791 be?

Hey Justin (or any other reps who might know)

i've been looking into a new notebook for a little while now, thankfully found NBR and all its glory, and got excited about the m570ru, but am apprehensive about all this upgradeability talk. i was wondering if i ordered one soonish with the older GPU (7950 or 8700) if it could be pre-modified to swap in an 8800 (in like a year or so) later, to prevent extra shipping at that time. main reason being im a poor college kid who wants a sweet computer that i wont have to throw out in a couple years (note current HP Pavillion w/integrated ati x600), and i dont need an 8800 right now. or should i just wait for the 5792 to come down a bit in price?

also is the 7950 going to be discontinued completely, or is it already, cause i would opt for that one if i had the choice

    thanks
    Dan

ps if there is already a thread for this somewhere else, sorry, this is my first post and didnt know where else to go :)

The 7950 GTX is only available on the Sager NP5791 for a short while longer.

The question about upgrading a Sager NP5791 has been answered earlier in this thread in post # 213...just click on that link to read about the upgrade program. Now, you raise an interesting question about pre-modifying the NP5791 that would be purchased today for acceptance of the 8800M with no issues. I will investigate this with Sager and post the answer here once I have it.

However please keep in mind that if you buy the 7950 GTX now, and the 8800M later, you will have purchased 2 very expensive video cards instead of just one, and the NP5792 is not likely to come down very much in price for quite a while. Maybe the better thing to do is wait until you can save enough to get the NP5792 instead of buying 2 cards over time.

to be on top of technology costs $$$

if you dont care to be top dog all the time then upgrading with every new card or cpu isnt a concern imo

Regrettably, everyone thinks it's cool to be so far out front, you're not only cutting edge, you're bleeding edge; unfortunately, what everyone fails to keep in mind is, that ain't just a metaphor, when you're out here, you actually do bleed, only difference is the color of the blood - green instead of red. :eek2: (hey, before anyone lets off, at least you didn't blow $2400 on a d**ned VAIO Z1A).

Currently Sager is sold out of the 5791 with the old motherboard revision. Currently Sager is swapping out 5791 orders with the 5792. Customers that order the 5791 will get the new revision board with their 8700 Video Card selection and have the capability to upgrade to the 8800 later on. :D Soon these models will be updated and the 5792 will likely be the the only choice with both video card choices. (8700 & 8800)

    The 7950GTX is discontinued. :(

Starting Thursday 1/3/2008 the NP5791 will begin using the same motherboard revision as NP5792, so you can buy it with the 8700M and upgrade to the 8800M later.

i just ordered a 5791 from sagernotebooks.com (is that a retailer or direct?), i wish i'd have know about you're site it is both cheaper and i noticed you're great warranty, anyway too late i guess its being built now and im not one to backpedal on someone for a 4% difference.

my question is pertaining to the above quote, they are building the laptop now, will it then have the 5792 motherboard? are there any other benefits besides the ability to use the 8800 gpu with that motherboard? lastly is replacing a laptop gpu feasable for someone with only general laptop ability/knowledge? thanks! and i love you're site!

Thanks for your kind words. :D

I would suggest calling Sager to confirm what motherboard you are getting. The only benefit is the 8800 with the new motherboard. The GPU is easy to replace and if you need any help Sager Tech Support can assist you with the install. :)

(well i couldn't find an online retailer who sold it separate, so i didn't know how much separate it really was i guess...)

Jeez that pricey eh? well, my mindset is if the games i play aren't doing well on my current setup, then i can just swap out my 8700.

Whatever, all conjecture for me, we'll see what i need in the future i suppose after i get my baby and put her to test (first ever notebook, i've always been a desktop man, that is till i got called up for deployment lol) :p thanks everyone.

Here is a update on the install info I have posted in another thread (along with some up close pics of the 8800M GTX):

Here are some blown up images of the 8800 and a Quick Un-Install guide for the M570RU/5792 Video Card. I figured everyone would like to see it up close and personal so the images are a little large.

For 9262 users, I have provided a image below showing where the "Bridge Cable" connects to the 8800M GTX for SLi.

    Uninstall Information
    1. Remove the back Panel on the back of the 579x. You wil see the video card in copper casing. Below you will see what it looks like with the video card out.

    2. Next you will remove the video card. There are 7 Screws that need to be removed to remove the card. You will see them labeled 1-7 below. Once you remove screws 1-4 the copper heatpipe assembly can be removed off of the video card and out of the system.

    3. After removing the heatpipe assembly you will only see the video card that is protected with a copper heatsink casing. (Pictured below). Screws 5-7 release it from the motherboard and you can now remove the video card (Pull up slightly and backward out toward the back of the system)

On the copper casing you will see some brief install/uninstall notes. (All screws are labeled in the order they need removed.)

That is it for the removal, now some pictures of the 8800M GTX:

For those that have 9262's, I have labeled where the "Bridge Cable" connects to the 8800M GTX for SLi Mode.

The .0 does not support Quad Core CPUs, whereas the .1 does.
Also , the newest version, revision 5.0 of the mobo supports the 8800M GTX. (or 6.0, whichever is the newest...)

    Justin and/or Paladin...
Approx. when will one of you be able to post some benchmark scores for the 8800m gtx?
When you do them please post some 3dmark05 and 06 scores.
(I have some benches in the old 3dmark05 I'd like to compare for another system).

    Also
Anyone know the answer to these specs for the 8800m.
I'm trying to compare some specs to the 7950gtx and as has been the case
in the past (at least once before) when bringing out a new product nVidia
places specs on the web site for it that can't be compared to specs for previous models.
It's either that or they buried them so deep I can't find them.
    thanks
Here's the info I'd like to know.

    Graphics Bus: Pci express
    Memory interface: 256 bit
    Memory Bandwidth:

Anytime! Notebookcheck has a good benchmark table on their website that you can use to compare the 8800 vs. many other nVIDIA Cards.

Sorry, I spoke a little too soon. I do appreciate the info but still looking for a little more. The url for the 5792 is a little helpful but I'd like to see benchs with XP and that one is running vista which "usually" means a performance drop.
SO if anyone out there has some marks with XP and "preferably" a 926x that would be appreciated.

[EDIT 1/9/2008] Ok info closer to what I was looking for can be found here (post #17).

    [End EDIT]
    ----------
On the other url for the Notebookcheck it had some interesting stuff but
I dare say you really need to view the stuff there (benchmarks especially)
    with a skeptical eye.

For example it lists 2x 7950gtx in sli as getting 10256 in 3dmark05 and 6982 in 3dmark06!!!
    (see http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Graphics-Cards-Benchmark-List.844.0.html)

Those are really low marks! (in perspective my 9260 comes down at 14900+ and 9095 respectively)
When you dig deeper you realize they did those benchs on
an Alienware area-51 9750 with a t7400 cpu. Very misleading if you don't look closely at it or know any better.

Sorry I have not, only Vista Ultimate 64. Boogieman will be getting a 5792 soon with the 8800GTX and is going to post up a review with XP. :)

    Hi Justin,

i was wondering the self install option (option 3) where you get a 8800 does it include the new motherboard and does it support quad cores?
