The ATI Card? I thought it is a Nvidia 260m GTX?
I hope that flashing new BIOS will help, but ít´s strange that the screen stays black, he should get an mxm error but not a black screen.

Yes, I know (Bad). No, no other card to try. I removed the battery, but I haven't seen the bios battery.

As a last resort, I wonder if the GPU fan is running. I know the cpu fan is running, but not sure about the GPU fan. It was not unplugged.

Ups, I mistaken the topic. :D

It looks like the GPU is dead. Or the MXM port is screwed.

    All,

    As an update:

    1) My screen is completely black, no LCD backlight either.
    2) External monitor does not work either.
    3) With the 260m installed, my 5793 does boot completely into Win 7 64.
    4) nvflash does not see a video card so I cannot flash the card.
    5) I was able to update the system bios, but no change in screen or boot.
    6) no extra beeps on boot to speak off.

It is obvious that your video card is not recognised by the system (at the hardware level). As the video card should be just fine, then we can only blame the motherboard. But my expertise on the matter is rather limited.

It seems we will only know if it´s the motherboard or the card if
    a) the card will be installed in another systemand works or not
    b) another card that works well will be installed in your 5793...

Since you had the problem with you 8800m GTX first - if it´s the motherboard, maybe even your 8800m GTX will work in another system...

Really bad news... hope you´ll find a solution!

Thank you Tirenz and Blacky for your continued interest and help. I am very grateful.

I am willing to ship my 260m to a dedicated NF user, in the US, for testing, if they would be willing to install to their system to determine the card condition. I don't really have any other options at this point. Respond here if interested. I would pay USPS both ways.

I don't think the 8800 is in a good condition since it has been baked twice and after the second time would not even boot the system.

Any takers? This was always intended to offer good experience reeport for anyone how needed a new card for their 5793. So far this doesn't offer any good report from my system. Something is defective here and we are very uncertain what is the cause.

    Thank you,

    Joe

An additional note concerns some installation issues I experienced with the 260m. I would like to detail those now.

The 260m was purchased from rjtech from $400 US. It was meant for the M860TU although the card form factor is exactly the same as the 5793. This card comes with the mounting hardware for the M860TU which consist of the copper front and back that do not conform to the 5793 for obvious reasons. It was very easy to unscrew and remove the copper shell front and back and remove, no problem.

But there is a very sticky problem remaining, in that the 260m also has a back plate mounted under the back side of the CPU which has 4 post that pass through the board, most likely used for the heat sink mounting on the M860TU. This bracket MUST be remove in order for the copper assembly of the 5793 to function correctly. This bracket is adhesive bonded to the back of the board.

Sorry for the bad phone camera photos

    bracket from back.
    back.jpg

4 post of bracket from top
    front.jpg

Basic idea of removal - not exactly since I had to take the photo and hold at same time
    push.jpg

I had a very hard time in trying to push this bracket through to remove it. It took a lot of pressure and my original technique did flex the board a little. This might have caused damage but how can I be sure?

It basically is the kind of situation where you need three hands. If I had it all to do over, I could do it right the first time using a vice to hold the screw driver. Experience with these matters always require some trial and ERROR. I offer my possible $400 error to hopefully aid your experience.

    Thanks RRuki,

I just ordered mine. That is cheaper than any of the parts. I was on the verge of getting a 8760, but I really shouldn't spend the extra money right now.

It should work, as long as it´s MXM 2.1 Typ III/ HE and someone (e.g. from mxm-upgrade.com) modifies the vBios to unlock the 3D mode. But you´ll always get the error-beeping at start. As long as you can live with that, you´ll be fine...

    no BIOS screen
    no bootup!

-though fan commands are working and so are the wlan and bt commands!
-screen is coming on(backlight) but there isn't any display!
    -DVD drive is also working
    -battery is charging

I think the mobo gave away!

    can it be resurrected??
in the mean time I'll try baking my GPU!

How long have you had it? After hearing about all these 8800M's dying after just two years, I just hope mine dies before my warranty expires in 2011, and not after.

^Exactly 2 years and 1 month! (GPU baked twice already)

OMG!!!! You guys wont believe it!

I opened up my lappy using the service manual and baked both the mobo and the GPU together at 385F for 10 mins!

after putting it together and powering it I was praying to god that it'd work!

and just then I saw the BIOS screen!!!

I literally jumped with joy! now it works completely, just need to run a few tests to confirm stability!

for now I'm super happy! all thanks god! :D

    Hello there,

just for all of the people who don´t know what kind of cards they can use; One day, just surfing on ebay I found this item: nVidia 8800M GTS DDR3 512MB MXM III HE VGA Video Card bei eBay.de: Graphics, Video TV Cards (endet 09.08.10 12:37:34 MESZ)
Since there were no high bids I made a bid and won ;-).
Got that card yesterday and this is what I found out:
Put the 8800m GTS into my M570TU; the system boots, but can´t detect the card as 8800m GTS and you see everything including the BIOS screen like 8 bit color.
So I just thought, why not flash 8800m GTX bios on the card- and did it.
Guess what? The card works perfectly as 8800m GTX or 9800m GT, you can use the latest vBios for that. And the latest driver.
Of course you still only have 64 pipelines, but there wasn´t one crash testing the card.
Without OC, the card made 8500 points with a T9400 CPU.
So again tried to overclock it a little bit, and now with 664/1620/969 I get 10011 points in 3DMARK06 (standard 1280x1024). The temperature of the GPU never got over 76°C.
Of course a 9800m GT/ 8800m GTX make more points when overclocked, but I think this is very impressive for that card.
I benchmarked DiRT 2; with settings at 1920x 1200, 2x MSAA, VSync on, shadow medium, particle high, objects high, trees high, reflexions high, water high, I get max FPS 34,2 and min FPS 28,1.

Today I put it in the M570RU of my friend, and it worked again with the 9800m GT BIOS. I didn´t benchmark, just tried if the card works fine and it did.

So what I want to say: If you are looking for a replacement card for you M570RU/TU and don´t want to spend too much money and can live with that kind of performance, this is one possible solution! I just recognized that there are many people who want to know what kind of replacement options they have, so this might help.

In fact, I think THIS is the same card, a 8800m GTS as 9800m GT: Nvidia Alienware 9800m gt 8800m gts MXM 2.1 III HE 512m - eBay (item 320581498242 end time Sep-24-10 23:58:44 PDT)

    Best regards,
    Andy

I love when old threads are resurrected. Brings back memories.

Yes, it can, but it will beep for about 30 sec. when you boot your computer. The rest is ok.

    WELL
Considering the below (sorry for truncating, tirenz) and multiple experiences I have had, you could probably flash either of those cards to the 3700m or a 9800m GTX and have it work 100%

Speaking of which, WOAH how did I miss this??
First of all, the first card you linked are back on the market. Cyberinfinity won apparently quite a few of them at a local auction.
Which BTW just really makes me imagine MXM cards being sold locally at an auction, why is texas the only place that happens darnit? lol.
    I believe I know the origin :)
They are from the HP HDX dragon 9000, at least I'm pretty sure. The only other cards I've seen that looked like that were advertised as being for that laptop, and its the only laptop that ever shipped with that card.

The second card you linked however was NOT the same card :D

I would know. It was my listing :D :D
Those cards... were from the HP 8710p. They were quadro fx 3600m, and I did the exact same thing to them you did tirenz. Except the 3600m just only worked on external monitor until I flashed them.

Here is cyberinfitiys new listing NVidia G92 8800M 512MB MXM HE Laptop Video Card - eBay (item 370468406142 end time Jan-19-11 14:46:16 PST)

Although, the 3700m is still better priced and a better card with 2x the shaders. Unless you are worried about heat.
The 3600m and 8800m GTS are such good overclockers because they are based on the same g92 core as all the other high end cards, so they have the same amount of power available to only 64 cores. unlike the 9800m GS and GTS which are g94 based.
Although, the fx 2700m is g94 based with 48 shaders and its an extremely good overclocker as well. problem with that one is its totally unsupported by nibitor and there are no other compatible vbios for it.

Here is one of my best benchmarks:

windows XP and the quad core brings up the score quite a bit, but I'd say if you can get your CPU to 3ghz then you can easily expect scores in the 12k range

Hello niffcreature, thanks for clearing this up!
    Very interesting.
Right now, I am thinking of the following, maybe someone has tried it already?
I´m going to get a new laptop - the X7200 or the P170HM, still thinking ´bout it ;).
Anyway, the friend of mine who already has my M570RU could get my M571TU now - BUT, the M571TU had a hard time; a few months ago, my 9800m GTX died, there was a short time overload and the card was dead and notebook didn´t turn on until I removed the card. It works now again with a GTX 280m, but one RAM slot is faulty since then, too- now working with 1 stick of 4 GB RAM. There are 3 stuck pixel on the panel, too.
Since the M570RU is working well and doing fine, we thought about putting the GTX 280m in the M570RU- now I know as I experienced that myself that it will beep 30 seconds and I need a modded BIOS. But, and here it comes ;), if I would flash the GTX 280m into a FX3700m and install a modded GTX 280m driver, would that work without problems?
Anyone knows for sure? Maybe I´ll just try it ;).

I think that should work 100%.
to be honest I have never had a real gtx 280m to experiment with. but there is no reason that would fail.
Just change the voltage 1v (unless you like the extra .03)

Thanks! As soon as I get my new laptop, I will try that. Worst case -> blind flash ;).
So, I just have to get a 3700m vBIOS... any idea which is the best for what I´m looking for and where to get it?

    HMM
Well thats another thing entirely. Tons of us at NBR have been using the 3700m... but none of us with a genuine Clevo card

So you will have to use an HP or Lenovo VBIOS.
You may want to match them for board ID... Although I have flashed Lenovo cards to HP and vice versa, the Lenovo card has a p610 board and the HP card has a p398 board. If your 280m is either one of those then I'd say go with that BIOS.

On the other hand, the Lenovo cards were never capable of being flashed to 280m while the HP cards are. So if in doubt try the HP BIOS first.

    Heres both of them http://forum.notebookreview.com/attachments/msi/58134d1289535428-gx720-video-upgrade-3700mroms.zip

So for all who are interested:
Today I tried it a and flashed my GTX 280m (in my M571TU) to a FX3700m (the HP.10 vBIOS).
I only had one problem, after the windows start it showed me two screens and could not go on a resolution higher the 1024*800, but as soon as I said "show only 1 Desktop" everything was fine - and I could even overclock the card to my previous oc-settings and get nearly exact the same values in benches as I got with the 280m vBios... even with the quadro driver...
Next thing will be putting it in an M570RU-U (as soon as I get my replacement for my X7200 and don´t need it anymore) and I cannot imagine why it should not work, because it will be a FX 3700m for it, too...
So, if you can get a GTX 280m for your M570RU, just flash the vBios to FX3700m and you can use it just like a M570TU...

Of course will updating this as soon as I put it in the M570RU.

I don't think it will work on M570RU unless the 280M GTX is a P398 board...let us know!

It works perfectly - my "old real" GTX 280m is flashed with .10 vBIOS from FX3700m and boots and works perfectly in a M570RU - runs stable with some OC, too.

well that's an interesting tech news !!
280M GTX P398 previously flashed with FX3700M vbios works with M570RU!
could you please confirm wich board number is stamped on the card ??

The only good thing about the FX3700M is the cheaper price..
How much high can go the 280M GTX @1.05v ??

    Yep, it´s working.
A friend of mine - I play a lot of LAN games with him in a cafe - almost always get my "old" tech stuff. He doesn´t have a lot of money, so it´s a natural.
So he already got the M570RU. (I didn´t give him the M571TU because a ram slot is defective and it has some stuck pixels)
We gave the machine 8 GB RAM, a 750 GB harddisk and the X9000 CPU. And now my GTX 280m from my M571TU, I purchased it from Nexoc (german reseller) for my M571TU when my 9800m GTX card died over 6 months ago.
So before I tried it I flashed the GTX 280m with the FX 3700m vBIOS and tested it that way (in M571TU), I got almost the same scores in Benches (some were a little bit higher! strange...) and played some games with him before we finally put in in the M570RU.
No beeping, the card is recognized as FX3700m by Windows and the latest Geforce drivers will fit without modding etc.!
The card could stable OC with 600-940-1500 and we did a 3D Mark06 run with 12600 points I remember (stock volting). It now permanently runs on 600-900-1450 without problems - we did lots of "Dirt 2", "FIFA 11", "UT3" and some other stuff... no blue screens or driver problems... Dirt 2 runs on highest settings with 30 FPS average...
When starting "Crysis 2" it says "The card maybe not compatible" (because it´s a quadro) but you can just ignore that, Crysis 2 runs stable with it, too. No crash so far.

If anything other is needed - I can take a look at the card when I will meet my friend again to do some more gaming ;-).

Yeah, sounds like it worked as I thought it would.

The p398 board has nothing to do with this, oile. All g92 based cards are p398 except for the Lenovo 3700m.
