Oh god, is SKE top end rumored to be 2k now? For a 10 core?
If I dont care about benchmarking, I would have went 2 desktops. One dual socket xeon and one mainstream quad core.
-
Skylake was a decent 10% over haswell, so that plus the ive to hwe, plus two cores for $1.8K ($700 for two cores)...

According to posts and based on BWE that seems to be the factors at play currently @D2 Ultima and I were brimming over it earlier.
Its like they're gloating that there's 0 competition...TomJGX likes this. -
Yeah I dont know.....
Depends on what you are using this for. Call me a hypocrite(because I still want one), but this over 1k pricing is starting to be very seriously annoying.
I will probably pick up a 6950x for cheap once SKE releases. Unless the SKE socket gets hexa channel...
What are you using your octa for? -
Yes, but Ryzen without boost is able to go toe to toe around a 6900k. If boost turns out nice and it overclocked better, then Intel could reduce prices as it may cut into is six and 8 core sales (even though ske will beat it).
I agree, but see my hopes above

I doubt Ryzen will clock high but we will see.
I am excited about Coffee Lake bringing back hexa cores for laptop. Might go pure laptop plus server at home. -
Using Hexacore atm, IVE 4960X desktop and 4970K on my Batman. Hence the jump to 10core, though I was HOPING 12 core. By then the Samsung 970 will be out~ Hrngh then I can get a 1gb 960 for cheap as a main.ajc9988 likes this. -
Are you using a lot of multi thread apps? I would honestly just stick with a hexa coffee lake and call it a day if you arent using that much multithreaded stuff.
You are losing a lot of single threaded performance. Considering the mass release of top end chips are usually later one gen compared with mainstream.ajc9988 likes this. -
It's more like 3% actually
The benefit in some programs (like firestrike physics) is due to the 128MB L4 DRAM cache it has, as far as I know. I think it even obliterates Skylake in those scenarios. But for about 99% of what people do with CPUs it's not beneficial.
I told her given the current trends, $1750 for BW-X would translate into a more expensive chip for Skylake-X, probably $2000. It's just my expectation, but I HIGHLY doubt it's going to be anything under $1800.
They are
no quad channel support means even if in a controlled environment, clock-for-clock, the intel is the same as Ryzen, it'll still perform potentially better in the end.
I still need this to actually happen. I've seen game benches where it loses, and others where it draws. I've not seen it outright win, and I haven't seen clock-for-clock benches either. Nor how it overclocks. BWE sucks for OCing, but Skylake-E will not.
I don't think BGAtel is going to reduce their prices for anything since their prices keep going up each gen. Sandy,Ivy, Haswell, same price. BW was more. Skylake was even more. Kaby Lake is again more. Prices ain't going down, and Ryzen isn't going to be out next week to start cutting into Skylake-E sales. If AMD wins anywhere it'll be in the mainstream market, depending on their prices.
Down Roona! Down! *shoots tranq gun*
I swear sometimes she just plans out how to most efficiently owe money to banks for PC parts -
@D2 Ultima - I agree. But it's become obvious that nothing released on Ryzen was allowed to show it with boost because of the auto overclock features on the chip. I believe they are leaving that for CES as the big reveal. Now, we already discussed the dual vs quad problem that was just a HUGE mistake! But, until we see boost and overclock, I will hold out hope. If instead it is like historic amd, they optimized for power and heat and anything above the heat explodes and burns your house down... Lol

Yeah. The pitch has already been thrown. It's up to AMD to bat it for a home run or to strike out. Unfortunately, however, I hold zero hope for them. The way they handled Polaris was disgusting, and makes me feel that they're not willing to challenge anything truly. If this is also the case for Ryzen then it'll just be a mediocre alternative. We don't even know chipset specs, and that's a large part. Chipset PCI/e lanes is a big thing since everybody is for some reason super desiring M.2 NVMe drives.

Tons, I'm an avid machine @ it, art , streaming, recording, vm's, rendering, 300+ tabs, some gaming still time to time ( multi client ) and others.
I keep all 6 cores @ 4.5ghz and 64gb ram @ 2133 at low timings, I like to be prepared for w/e and the power to handle w/e as well.I'm constantly gaining hobbies and interests. + if I really wanna shoot single threaded I can always manually set affinity, it still helps on some older apps. Streaming/rendering is my biggest friend though so more cores the better <3

I only left due to the corporate takeover and the doors opening up to random trolls that preaching some random holy gospel that was "ignorance 3.0 with the name Gaben spelled backwards instead" Same guy (ProFX) even created a fake account dedicated to me to praise himself after I publicly shot him down. I'm pretty sure he still makes tribute pics nightly.

Yeah we just had our friend order the 3200 variant of those. Same timings, hopefully they put her up to speed w/ streaming but liking those numbers. Hows the R/W/C now w/ the new timings since it looks like they're kinda falling behind on R atm in the shot, that could lead to a possible fault at a later time.
-
I feel like my desktop is less messy, and thats not easy to beat. LOL
Thats a very nice setup, I am actually wanting to go something similar but I am looking at 2-3 larger display max.(I really HATE bezels.) So I am looking at ultrawides and/or larger TVs.
I am running on 64GB as well, frankly, its hard to get decent 64/128gb kits at decent speed/timing on DDR4 at a reasonable cost. Is low timing/2133mhz better than higher CAS/higher speed? I dont have the chart at hand..... but I was under the understanding x79/x99 is better with higher speeds.....
Skylake E would be a great upgrade for you but I am gonna wait for 12 cores personally at least. -
I'm just going to leave this here...

It was $380 when i bought mine. -
Yeah that was with a lot of stuff running in the background. plus i eneded up swapping the motherboard as one of the memory slots failed. So im not sure how much that mattered. Ill do a fresh run tomorrow morning
Daaannng. In one of the reviews , someone pushed the 16 GB kit to 4133 @ Cl16/Cl17.
Max i have been able to push mine to is 3733 CL15. -
BWE have considerably better IMC than HWE. So you are gonna have a lot more luck then me lol.
-
Many mb have a problem going above 3733. For Asus maximus viii, you have to bin boards, with impact doing the best. Otherwise, asrock z170 oc formula hits the highest. For the new boards coming out, they have ratings up to 4500 on some...
Edit: Not sure on the x99 boards everything is best
Sent from my SM-G900P using Tapatalk -
Probably, the 3733Mhz was with straight frequency and timing change, no tweaking the system agent. So im sure i can push a bit more.
Here is where it is at 3200mhz :
Haha hope so.lctalley0109, Papusan and ajc9988 like this. -
XMP increases your SA massively. I had to manually lower it. Like, its stupidly high with XMP. Go check your SA voltage.
-
Is that too high ? Im not too sure myself. -
VCCSA should be VSA I think, not too sure. Sorry, HWINFO labels sensors differently based on boards. 1.3v would be too high for HWE, not sure for BWE. Looks like it bumped IO as well..... I am actually not sure if IO helps much lol.
-
Haha, i actually need to update my BIOS and do a clean Windows reinstall over this weekend. Going to check what the non XMP values. Will report back then.
But seem like 1.2-1.25V is the normal for 3000-3200Mhz. -
Yeah, I noticed after awhile XMP is OVing way more than it needs to for my VSA. And it was boosting my cache voltage too high as well. Thats why I always manually check all my voltages instead of using auto.
-
Gotcha.
Problem with BWE, is that there are barely any references out there. Gonna dig around a but tomorrow. Just been bugging John every now and then
Thank you for the heads up though . -
Honestly, that's generally the best way to dig around for information regarding overclocking xD
Hell, that's how I started learning lots about livestreaming. "I don't understand what this does, explain to me, author of the most popular and widely used streaming program!"
THEN I SUCK THE KNOWLEDGE INTO MY BRAIN. Then I build on it until I find things he can fix/improve on. And then the symbiotic relationship continues.
Or something.jaybee83, lctalley0109, bloodhawk and 1 other person like this. -
No prob. I am not familiar with BWE and it looks like I am gonna skip it. I might skip SKE depending on how things go.
I guess on the positive, I get to save money lol.
Edit: I would also take a look at your tertiary timing if I were you and have a lot of free time imo. -
Da .
Let's see how much time I get over the weekend. Gotta do a resintall on the laptop, then on the desktop. Make an image. Install the software's. Restore licenses.. shhheeesh.

Whoa, nice looking workplace!
Anyone knows how to speed up Adobe AE render step?
It's not using 100% of GPU or CPU not stressing either, kinda feels like it's bottlenecked by the RAM since it does fill all 32GB of RAM I got with rendering a video. -
Does it get slower when you pull a stick of RAM or reserve a few GB of it? If yes, then that's likely your bottleneck.

Intel Core i7-7700K overclocked past 7GHz barrier
Nice Aquamark score... -
