I'm still waiting for one of the Prema Phoenix machines to show up.

Thank you sir for the fast reply. I truly did not mean any disrespect. I was really hoping there was some hidden gains with the GPUs or something. Or even some CPU gains that I was unaware of.
For the record I really love the blue and green default lighting
after updating I would hate to go to the white only, and hate to have to install CCC. I guess I'd take the latter if it won't mess up my system, at least then I could control max fans from the desktop at least. I really miss being able to do that.

Seems like Windows 7 is working....I only ran one test though.

@Porter
This is just one example from all of the benchmarks that can be run. And the outcome will be the same i'm thinking....

Ignore the graphics score (still stock air cooling), but I want to see the 7700K beat this CPU score on time spy sometime (6637):

I mean BIOS logo. I ordered from HID, but I'm down for floating some extra money your way for a custom logo.TomJGX, jaybee83, TBoneSan and 1 other person like this.

Prema BIOS, not stock, goober.

You're right Paps. During that bench it was only pulling around 85W from the CPU which isn't enough.jaybee83, bloodhawk, Papusan and 1 other person like this.

Hey that's Neko invoker yo. . :3

interesting tidbit of info from SL forums, showing how much of a temperature drop one can expect from delidding and going with LM between die/IHS:
Ivy Bridge: 10°C to 25°C
Haswell: 10°C to 25°C
Devil's Canyon: 7°C to 15°C
Broadwell: 8°C to 18°C
Skylake: 8°C to 18°C
Kaby Lake: 13° to 25°C
so according to this, delidding kaby lake is an absolute MUST, more so than all other mainstream cpu models before

what kinda specs did your machine have again?

@Prema, I have to ask, what are you going to do with your W230S machine now that you've gotten a P870?
-
Model: P870DM3-G
LCD: 3K & 4K AUO
GPU: 2 x 1080-G
CPU: 6700K & 7700K
RAM: 2 x 8GB 3000Mhz & 4 x 16GB 3200Mhz
PSU: 2 x 330W & 780W
SSD: 1 x 256GB SM961
(yeah I know, THX@Samsung's exploding phones for a 3 month delay on the 960Pro)
Will keep it as long as it runs, perfect travel partner!
I've done the entire P870DMx Mod on the W230SS.
Told you in September that the new 'portable models' won't have a 1060, so yeah...Last edited: Jan 10, 2017afloyd, Ionising_Radiation, temp00876 and 7 others like this. -
but how is the p650 not portable?
-
Thinking more of the 11-13" put it in your pocket category. 14" is already border-line.
Who needs an additional 15" if they already sport a 17" with 4 times the power...
Usually it's either one large plus one small or a single medium sized system to have all bases covered.Last edited: Jan 10, 2017afloyd, lctalley0109, Georgel and 5 others like this. -
I like having big guns wherever I may roam. Rule #1 - always take an RPG to a knife fight. It's far more efficient, causes more damage, and you get less blood on your hands.
For email and web on the go, a rooted Amazon Kindle Fire with Google launcher is good enough whenever "ultra portable" actually matters, and for less than $50 USD the price is hard to argue with. For the cost of a few day's worth of lunch money it doesn't need to be anything special. With a $5 faux leather cover it handles double-duty as a coaster for cold drinks or a fly swatter. It's nice to see a proper implementation of BGA as well... a fitting platform for throw-away tech filth.afloyd, lctalley0109, jaybee83 and 6 others like this. -
Careful...if they're too thin they don't work well as door stopsafloyd, lctalley0109, jaybee83 and 2 others like this.

I actually love my modded Kindle Fire. I would not use it for a door stop. It's the perfect companion on the porcelain throne, or for a quick Google without having to use a computer. With a screen that is much larger, it's not nearly as miserable as trying to use a tiny smartphone. By phone size standards, my LG Vista is quite large, (some folks even think too large,) but not big enough screen-wise to actually enjoy using it. But, these are not devices to be taken seriously. They are throw-away tech at throw-away tech prices.

I picked up a Lenovo Windows netbook for $100 to go with my P870. It gets around 7-8 hours of battery life and runs productivity software just fine, and I won't be all that pissed when it eventually dies on me because I can just grab another one.

Buy used one. Don't waste unnecessary $€£ on filth!! Cheaper the better. A smaller loss when the soldered hardware goes into flames

Question ( @Prema): does the Prema bios allow for AVX negative offset, a feature of Kaby lake?
Sent from my SM-G900P using Tapatalk -
dont quote me on this, but i think i remember him mentioning it being included

I think they have more than enough with bending the third legs on the amazing Tripod cpu heatsink
So the soldered i7-6700hq can manage to boost up to 45w without overheating with the well known windoze <blue picture> in the end. Some will experience the new <Green pict>
Yes, this is confirmed
Very nice scores
How much offset voltage do you need for 5.1 and 5.2GHz?
Last edited: Jan 10, 2017TBoneSan, temp00876, lctalley0109 and 3 others like this. -
@Papusan That offset thing changes after every few reboots so it's ever changing on my system. I'm averaging around 1.38V to 1.45V at the moment.
Edit:
5.3 ghz Knocked off.

Getting closer to that goal of 5.5.

Kaby seems to be quite a bit better than SkylakeTomJGX, ajc9988, Spartan@HIDevolution and 5 others like this.

I won't have Kaby until February most likely but can't wait!
4.9Ghz was the highest I was able to hit on my 6700K in the P870DM. -
So for sustaining those clocks, are you just dialing in the appropriate voltages in the BIOS with high power / current limits? Or did it need a lot of fine tuning?
Also I'm assuming speedstep and cstates are on?temp00876, jaybee83, lctalley0109 and 1 other person like this. -
Same here. I was just starting to getting 5ghz stable, but grabbed a 7700K off the shelf. Glad I did.
This stuff is really not that complicated. And i can do it with just using xtu and throttle stop with ccc installed. It's when you guys start trying to overthink it that it gets harder. And running a 7700k is easier than a 6700k as well. Could be that 4.5 ghz turbo. That turning everything off and running redline on everything is not for me. I like my stuff to drop when nothing is going on.
So c states and speedstep stay enabled.
afloyd, TBoneSan, jaybee83 and 1 other person like this. -
Yeah, learnt that when is started using TS, that a simpler approach worked much better.
I perosnally always have Speedstep and Cstates enabled as well. But I remember that on certain architectures, having them disabled helped a bit.Last edited: Jan 10, 2017Johnksss likes this. -

This is true. It's why I use to say...1 size does not fit all. You have to adjust accordingly.

Can someone upload the latest CPU-Z? I have 1.7.5 and pressing validate doesn't do anything. Also I can't download anything from their website for some reason.

Sorry my english, but I think you all understand what I meant
Expected results from powerhouse, and NO JOKEBOOK's in any form or shape can do this. Thanks bro @Johnksss@iBUYPOWER for showing all people what NORMAL laptops can do!!

Question. I upgraded my Sager bios to the newest bios and installed the 7700k but computer is just starting and rebooting never even reaching the bios. Should I have pulled the CMOS batter or what step did I miss?

@lctalley0109 try putting back in a Skylake chip and holding Fn+D while pressing power button without AC adapter?
