Are these NVMe's throttling quickly or is this more for fun because we're all kinda nuts and wanna do it cos we can?
-
Should not be a problem. But maybe a smaller laptop like the thin ****hy Jokebook's may have the problem and need it.

You could test with ATTO benchmark

All NVMe drives and most M.2 drives in general will overheat under longer load times. NVMe drives heat up much quicker. The problem is the entire M.2 form factor being too small/open for the massive data transfers, and nobody bothering to innovate for SATA 3 anymore. It's not like we've hit SATA 3's bandwidth limit yet, and for prolonged transfers and work like rendering video and recording, SATA 3 is still king.TomJGX, hmscott, Papusan and 1 other person like this.

The vast majority of people wont notice and if you are worried, buy two and raid them. The load reduces the load on each controller and means they don't throttle over even hundreds of GB of transfers.hmscott, electrosoft, jaybee83 and 3 others like this. -
Why does my Core 2 Clock suddenly drop to 800mhz? I have not ran any stress test.
Would this be voltage related?
-
That also happens to me. It is normal!
-
BTW - I gave in to the stress of a promotional sale and I got a display. Seemingly it is named Dell U2515H and it seemed like a good idea at that moment. 14 days to return it anyways so I guess that at least I get to see how it works even if I don't keep it.

as Mr. Fox told me, if the CPU isn't being used, then not all 4 cores stick always, try running a benchmark then see

How long was it down at 800Mhz? -
By the way, if anybody is having thermal problems even with a delidded 7700K, you may need to add a shim to your setup.
I had a 6700K in my P870DM3 which was running great with CLU. After swapping in my 7700K and applying CLU, temps were completely worthless, and the HS clearly wasn't making proper contact. So after several repastes, I swapped my 6700K back in to verify that it wasn't just me applying CLU incorrectly, and it worked just fine. So I measured the IHS dimensions of both and found that the distance from the top of the IHS to the retention tabs seemed to be a bit smaller for Kaby Lake, which means that since the bracket pushes the retention tab down to the same height, the 7700K has around 0.05mm less effective Z height. I didn't write down the numbers when I was doing the installation, but I just redid the measurements using a non-delidded 7700K and they agree.
6700K delidded:
4.28mm from bottom of substrate to top of IHS
- 2.45mm from bottom of substrate to top of retention tab
= 1.83mm from top of retention tab to top of IHS
7700K floating:
4.26mm from bottom of substrate to top of IHS
- 2.49mm from bottom of substrate to top of retention tab
= 1.77mm from top of retention tab to top of IHS
If anybody else has either CPU and a caliper, some more data points would be nice.lctalley0109, CaerCadarn, jclausius and 6 others like this. -
I5-7600K fully thickness 4.26mm in the link. Old data but still http://www.expreview.com/50070.html

Unfortunately that doesn't mean anything if we don't know the substrate-tab distance.

So what copper shim dimensions are we looking for?
Spartan@HIDevolution likes this. -
I used a 0.3mm and sanded it down a fair amount. It'll depend on your heatsink fit, so I suggest starting with 0.3 (probably too much, but smallest I could find) and removing material until it no longer stops you from tightening it all the way down.

I used a 0.3mm shim but changing the vram/mosfets pads , 1.5m and 1mm make perfect contact with out the shim for the cpu, but i'm having troubles getting good contact with the gpu's, i changed the pads but no luck, What size of shim do you recomend i use for it?
Btw finally getting closer to 27k in fs

Noooo! You're getting too close to me! There is no need for you to ever run the benchmark again, that is the best you will ever get!

I am talking about the CPU, not the GPU.
If your GPU pads are barely making contact right now, you need to make absolutely sure the shim is thinner than the gap. Otherwise you risk damaging the VRMs or other components because only the core has thermal sensors. -
i know, i was just telling that replacing the pads on the CPU HS, solved the problem for me.
Ok, thank you i'll give it a shot with 0.3 mm, the gap is pretty big for the way the paste is spread, the pads are making good contact i guess, even leave the mark from the mosfets, that means they r even to thick.
haha, once i get the temps of the gpu under control i'm back in the game, enjoy your score..for now xDPorter likes this. -

And so is this...

yeah, i know, but my Hs was really warped and that solved (yes for a 6700k wich is thickker) but maybe if the HS of others with 7700k has better fit, adjusting the pads will get the job done with out a shim.
-
awesome score
, AC unit or just air?
-
xD I wasn't talking about his score, but rather that he said he changed his thermal pads on his heatsink and didn't need a shim, but he has a 6700K which has a different height than the 7700K, so his testimony doesn't apply to us trying to fix the 7700K.
But nice score =O -
AC unit. You wont be able to scale your 1080N's without being below a certain temp.
-
Yes, once you reach 62C or 63C i can't remember now, the thing start to thermal throtle. but no way for me to stat below 73C during FS with air
(modded U3 also)

You need to be lower than that...More like below 42C to run optimal.

Yeah I realized if I had edited his quote it would have made more sense, but I was lazy xD. I'ma go back and edit it

Eurocom is big enough to understand the value that people like @Mr. Fox @Prema and many of you are providing, supporting company's marketing with many ways.. Not acceptable to ask for donations for a highly successful skilled engineers and experts, those seniors should be beyond that, and the major dealers or even the manufacturers should appreciate their efforts by all ways possible.

Big Happy Birthday Brother @Mr. Fox!!
Side note.
I got my hands on some of this and now need to test it against everything else we have been using. No AC only max fans with cooling pads and without cooling pads. Thanks.

You guys know I normally jump right to the extreme and by pass everything lower than that, but since this is new to us, I want to see how it fairs. EVeryone has max fans and some have cooling pads. We will get to the AC and outside temps a little later.
